I'm frustrated by the manager and his customer service. Bought a Local Flavor voucher online for $15 dollars and planned to take my family out to lunch to try out their Hibachi. As I was greeted, I told the Chinese manager about the LocalFlavor deal. He immediately responded: "we don't accept these vouchers for lunch" EXCUSE ME? I read the fine print on the voucher specifically to prove him wrong. My suggestion to you, Sir, please review below and adjust your Fine Print accordingly on LocalFlavor. Burn! baby Burn! What a great place to take friends for dinner. Everyone sits around the grill, while the chef cooks your dinner before your eyes and entertains the crowd with daring acts of shrimp tossing and "onion volcanoes"! AWESOME! The Toro sashimi is delicious and the miso soup is homemade (onions, garlic and scallions). The Hibachi dinner specials are where it's at! Miso soup, salad, shrimp appetizers, rice and meat or fish for $20 - $30 dollars! Not to mention the flames right in your face! The fillet mignon was cooked perfectly, with a light marinade. While the monk fish was saturated in sesame-soy dressing, but managed to be delectable. Who can deny fried rice prepared before your eyes?! For lovers of the BBQ flame, this is the fun place to be. Came here with my dad for a nice casual dinner, we've been here a couple times and I've always been indifferent. Never had a reason to review the joint because my opinions been so neutral(and I've only been to the Hibachi section, was sitting at the normal table tonight) But tonight that indifferent opinion changed. The woman who served us was extremely disrespectful, she was walking away from our table before we were done ordering, responded "it's fine" when we asked about certain dishes, didn't refill our drinks(WATER) once the whole night, and overall showed a strong sense of disrespect towards my father and I. The food is good I'll give them that, way overpriced but good. The two stars go to the fun hibachi section of the restaurant, the missing three stars are for the lazy disrespectful service. read more

Where do I start? Apps: the Miso Soup there is DELICIOUS. The salads are OK if you're used to their dressings, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. Main: They have excellent sushi, but sadly it's not cooked in front of you. The fried rice is awesome, as are the steak, sushi and chicken. These are cooked on a stove in front of you by one of their incredible chefs. Dessert: Deep fried ice cream is OK, but it's likely you won't be hungry for dessert anyway. read more

We've been to Fuji in Needham several times, and haven't been disappointed. They offered a Groupon recently ($15 for $30 of hibachi dinner), and although I usually cringe when I hear the word "hibachi," our chef was not overbearing and was instead more like a debonair James Bond or Agent Q of suave hibachi tricks. More importantly, the food was excellent; I ordered filet mignon with shrimp, and the vegetables, shrimp, and medium-rare beef were all just what I wanted. The steak we ordered was also very moist, tender, and well-prepared. I really loved the fact that we got to eat good hibachi food without the in-your-face boisterousness I don't cherish in many of my hibachi experiences. There are, if I counted correctly, six hibachi stations, with about sixteen place settings per station (but there may be more; I was too busy eating to go for sheer accuracy). Fuji has good sushi. They've got special items that change regularly; I really, really want to try their Yellow Submarine roll (it involves yellowtail/hamachi and something else I like but can't recall) but I have only noticed it on the board when I'm leaving, thus far. Tonight, they had otoro (fattiest tuna) at a reasonable price (around $10 for a two-piece order of nigiri). They do a good job with my favorite thing ever, which is salmon nigiri. If you do nigiri well, I'm all over it. They've got a very nice touch with their sushi dinner, and while they won't do substitutions, they will omit something (like octopus, for instance) if you ask. Their California Roll is also of note: not too cold in the ingredients department, and texturally nice. Usually, California Roll isn't a stand-out roll, but I am definitely a fan. It is very easy to order from their sushi menu and from their little slip of paper; my sushi experience starts with the ordering process, and if you make it smooth and streamlined, consolidated, and easy to follow, then I'll be back again another day. I like their beautiful fish pond, the size of their venue, the kindness of the (cheerful, knowledgeable) staff, and their food. It was pretty quiet on Thursday night when we dined here. Parking was no issue, seating was a breeze, and we were served quite promptly! Even though we were the only people at our hibachi table they did not make us wait. That, to me, was awesome. Some places make you wait for others to arrive, but not so here! Our chef was awesome and made everything as we ordered. My ultra picky dinner date even enjoyed his meal! The bar was super cute in the alcove with the big flat screen tv. I would watch a game here! First things first, another Japanese restaurant owned and operated by Chinese. Is this a surprise? No. Most Japanese places in MA seemed to be owned by Chinese and in my neck of the woods, suburban Las Vegas, they are all owned by Koreans (although, that seems to be changing with our growing Japanese community). My hopes did get up when we followed a Japanese family into the restaurant. The waitress was kind of short with our table during the order and for some reason she kept on confusing our dinner mate's request for brown rice with our other dinner mate's request for fried rice, to the point where it seemed like a very unfunny stand up act. When the chef came he chef didn't chit chat with us at all. I mean absolutely no small talk. Maybe because I'm from Vegas and expect a bit more customer service, but he just did his show with a burst of fire here and there, did the onion volcano, served the food, wiped up and left. Long story short, dude was just going through the motions. The food was pretty good, the interior was very handsome, especially the sushi bar area, but when you go for teppenyaki you expect more interaction from the chef. read more

What can I say - my kids (ages 3 to 9) think Fuji is the greatest, coolest, most fun restaurant in the known galaxy. The service is always kid friendly and geared to entertain. I find the food to be just so so and it's not really my bag to be seated with another party I don't know around the same grill. read more

I've never met someone less engaged, less interested in being there than this chef. The habachi show was entertaining. Other than that you are able to get food anywhere else. Dinner special was overpriced(I understand there's the show aspect to the price) and the quality was decent but portion was a bit small. The party boat was okay. My friend really wanted to go to a hibachi place for his birthday. It was difficult for me to find one in the city that was not a chain located in a Marriot, so we made the drive out to NEEDHAM. Even though I didn't know what to expect and was nervous about choosing a bad restaraunt, my friend thoroughly enjoyed himself and it was exactly what he wanted. It didn't take us long to receive a hot towel from our hostess once we took our seats. The drink and food orders for the entire grill were taken at one time which was efficient and time saving. We all ordered a hibachi meal which came with salad, soup, and shrimp. Each was delivered to us with an ample amount of time to finish each one. We also ordered two sushi rolls: Idaho (sweet potato - my favorite!) and the Spicy Salmon Maki which had tempura flakes and was oto spicy for me. My friend thought it was great. It was delicious, but I am a super taster so don't go by what I say in regards to spicyness. The chef that prepared our meal was very entertaining and kept all our orders straight - which amazed me. He was cooking for 9 people at once! becaues it's more entertaining to be surprised. I don't want to spill the chefs meal prep tricks I had the chicken hibachi was was served with white rice, veggies, chicken and two types of sauces which complemented the meal nicely. My friend who had the sirloin hibachi also enjoyed his meal and left nothing on his place. Since it was his birthday, he wsa given complementary fried ice cream which was delicious. He was also given the choice of whether or not he wanted to be sung to. Since about 6 people had already been sung to that night and the staff was getting less and less interested in singing, it was a blessing that he didn't want a song. Parking in this area is easy since there is street parking and a lot behind the building. It's very easy to find since it is a straight shot off of exit 19B on 95. We had dinner last night, 8 people. We sat around an Hibatchi table and were entertained by the Japanese guy who tried to make our dinner. We took some Maki rolls (the vegeterian with cucumbers and avocado was fresh and delicous). We had a few Hibatchi dishes : Chicken, Steak, Chicken&Steak combo, Tofo. Each Hibatchi dinner comes with some soup (pretty boring, but vegeterian), 3 shrimps, rice (you can choose white or fried. The fried rocks!) The chicken and the steak were delicous. The tofu was so-so. The guy who cooked wasn't very professional, he tried to impress us with his movements and cook skills but it was not very impressive. Good value, great for groups. You can also take the sushi plates and have a light dinner. A little bit on the pricey side but very good. read more

There were a lot of kids under 10 there on a Saturday afternoon so it seems like a good place to bring your family. Fuji Steak House is a nice restaurant with personality. The Teppanyaki (think Benihana's) were friendly. Eventhough we did not sit at the Teppanyaki tables (makes for hard conversation), I could tell that people at the tables were having a good time. The teppanyaki chef's were friendly and the show they put on was enjoyable. We ordered the assorted sushi (all fresh), soft shell crab appetizer (really good - highly recommend), seaweed salad, beef & chicken teriyaki (served with miso soup and salad). The salad had a citric ginger dressing that was pretty good. The teriyaki dinners also came with a side of veggies (baby carrots, broccoli and 2 large asparagus spears). For dessert we had deep fried ice cream. The ice cream was a large ball of vanilla dipped in a tempera-like batter. The servers were friendly and helpful. They were attentive and made sure the tea cups were filled. There was a really small 6 stool fully stocked bar there too. The men's room was very clean and well maintained and stocked. The facilities include a double clear glass sink, 1 stand up and 1 handicap sitter. read more

4.5 stars for this place. So I have to admit that I really like Hibachi restaurants. The food is always good and I enjoy the silly cooking acrobatics and antics. So one thing most other Hibachi places I have been skimp out is with the soup and salad. Some of them are downright terrible. This place is the total opposite. They had one of the best Miso soups I have ever had. It was very clearly homemade and done perfectly. The salad was mostly iceburg lettuce, but it was at least fresh. The dressing was really great though and I usually hate salad dressing. I'm not sure what they call it, but it was a little tangy and went well with the meal. For my entree I had the fillet with the scallops. Both were cooked just like I asked and had a great flavor. They also used high quality meat which I have found to not always be the case. The scallops also tasted very fresh. The fried rice was good and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The only thing I was disappointed in was the cook. He was not very entertaining and only did a couple tricks. He did the volcano with the onions and flipped an egg into his hat. Other than that he just cooked the food like a normal person. I much prefer the guys who are flipping utensils all over the place and tossing food around while cracking cliche jokes in broken English. I finally made it to Fuji for a work birthday lunch last week, and I enjoyed it more than some other typical birthday lunch spots -- maybe with the exception of Friendlys. Need a sundae on your birthday. The food is cooked literally right in front of you. So close in fact that you'll feel the heat of the flames on your face. It did seem weird that we were discussing Jackass 2 and potato guns right over the chef; I felt like he should be in the conversation, or we should just be paying attention to his cooking. Maybe for that reason I wouldn't come back here often, but the restaurant is very nice, the service is excellent and the food was good and plentiful (try the Fuji Special and some Crunchy Rolls). We came for lunch. We thought the menu was pricier than it should have been. The service was just OK. And the food (lunch) wasn't great. We were intrigued because of a Groupon and decent local reviews. In terms of decor and food quality, things were below our general expectations for the price. However, we had called ahead to ensure we were able to use the Groupons and they said it was completely acceptable and would be honored. However, after ordering a large meal, which we were ensured we would receive the groupon for, they denied our request. The manager came over and swore no member of his staff had previously promised us use of the coupons (even though she clearly had and taken our reservation for 5). He was adamant in his claim and was clearly inhospitable to us as customers. They were very abrasive after this, loudly refusing our request to honor the coupons and making a scene in front of other patrons at the restaurant. After such abhorrent service, we will be returning our coupons and will NOT be coming to this establishment again. We recommend anyone considering to just do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else. read more

Great service and food. A bit of a wait for 2 for Hibachi this Wednesday night but worth it. Had hibachi chicken and sirloin steak. Boyfriend who doesn't eat Asian food loved it and ate my serving of chicken on top of his. I enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the miso soup. Check in via foursquare for 10 back with Amex. Hibachi show was ok - some fancy knifework and volcano. Tip: If where you are sitting is cold, just ask the waitress to close the vents that they open when the chefs are cooking. read more

So, we used to live in Needham and go to this place fairly regularly. I swore to myself that I'd never go back there again after a horrendous experience with their service. Having said that, I thought I'd go there again after 5 years since some friends and their families wanted to go there. So, the customer experience still sucked. It sucked 5 years ago and had the same experience last week. Here's the deal, Fuji Steakhouse and listen to this very clearly: 1. You have to wait till everyone sits down before you take your order. 2. You have to not rush and answer the question being asked. 3. Do not look at the bill once its been paid, right in front of the customer and then either giggle or smirk. That's just bad bedside manners, ok. I will never go there again! This place opened up recently (within the past 6 months). Its kind of like dinner + a show. You sit around a grill, and a chef comes out and cooks it for you in front of your eyes (depending on what you order). They do cool tricks with the spatulas, and toss the knives around and set things on fire. It looks really neat. Food is pretty good too. The stuff the chef cooks looks good (i had a terryaki tuna, which was kind of bland). And they have sushi there, and its good (try the eel and avocado roll). It is a little pricey, but then again, you pay for the chef to do his cool tricks. And, if you get drinks, they come in some cool glasses. read more

I do not eat mixed foods (ie , rice, vegetables, and meat mixed together in one bite), and I do not eat foods with sauce on them. So why I got my boyfriend Greg and I a groupon to Hibachi, is still a mystery. But I am glad I did! 20$ for 40$ worth of food! Wait time at hibachi resturants is a bit misleading. We were seated immediately, and given drinks right away (I suggest their Red Cab from Chile... delic... Greg liked his appletini), but we had to wait until our table filled up for food to be served (about 30 min). Regardless, it was still highly fast for a Friday night at 6pm. I think this experience was better than mediocre because of the lady on a date next to us (we never talked to her, but picked up so many good tips from her!). For example, NEVER order shrimp, cus you always get 3 free ones with dinner! Also, theirs a hidden dipping sauce on the table, that is so much better then the one they give you! If I were her date, I would be impressed. When ordering, make sure you order from the hibachi menu. Greg and I both picked out meals, and then were told that they aren't cooked hibachi... so we had to make a last minute quick change. Our waitress had some reccomendations and was prepared to give us a pitch. Because Greg and I don't eat fried rice, we got white rice, which came a little too early because it was cold before we got our meals. Greg said the food was great, and even though I got the chicken/steak hibachi... I only ate the vegetables, which were fresh and yummy! My husband, cousin, and I tried this place and we had a very positive experience. I had not been to a hibachi place in a long time and thought it would be good for a chance. When we arrived there were a lot of groups there, but even though we didn't have a reservation we were seated within 15 minutes. Drinks at the bar were good. Seating was semi-cramped, but we still managed just fine. We ordered the fried raviolis and tempura chicken as appetizers and they were really really good (not heavy at all). Our dinners came with soup, which was in my opinion pretty tasteless, and salad which I enjoyed as well as my husband (he ate every bite) and my cousin. Our chef was nice, but not too overbearing. The meal does come with shrimp (which I don't eat anyways) but my cousin said was good. For dinner I had the friend rice with filet mignon (as did my husband). My cousin had the steak and scallops. All the veggies were cooked perfectly (I hate when they are over-done) and the filet was so tender and delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinners and we would definitely return. Four stars, based on my experience and expectations. Anyone visiting the Fuji Steak House has to start with those two ingredients before entering the place or sitting down. It's not one of those super premium places featuring massaged Kobe beef medallions from pedigreed purebred cows. No, it's steak - tasty and flavorful - and the experience of sitting around a chef preparing your meal at your table. It's as much show, as dinner. Came here with a group ranging in age from 7 to 75 and fortunately there was something for everyone. Before the show I had some better than passable miso soup, followed by the sirloin teppanyaki. And then the show...not much narration but lots of color. It featured knife tossing, eggs crashing and an onion volcano igniting - enough to keep us entertained as we watched dinner being prepared. Points to the chef for asking how everyone wanted their meals prepared and for getting them right...without writing them down...and in the midst of the entertainment. The steak..mine was tender, medium, as I had ordered it, and the vegetables came with just enough flavor not to overpower the meat. And, I know it's unusual to compliment the rice at a place like this...but the fried rice was really really good. Dessert (this was a birthday party) included the ice cream tempura, a pretty standard vanilla covered in just enough batter to make it tasty and memorable. Prices for entrees are reasonable, especially compared to places in Boston - my meal came to a shade over $30 and there is a kids menu for the youngsters. Despite the traffic there I found it pretty spotless. If one does bring children it's best to warn them about what they'll see beforehand. Sitting in such close proximity to the chef might also be a bit uncomfortable for those who don't want to be near an open flame...ask for a booth instead. Fine haute cuisine dining it may not be. But dinner at the Fuji Steak House is tasty. And the experience is lots of fun. Worth a trip. read more

This was a great teppanyaki place. Medium size dining room with nice decor give it a slightly upscale feeling. Everything felt clean and well taken care of. Went with a rather large group of co-workers. I was impressed at how well they handled our group. Service was prompt and very attentive. As for the food...DELICIOUS! Nothing was under or overcooked and the flavors were spot on. This kind of entertaining meal doesn't come cheap though so keep this in mind. I really enjoy this place! It's a bit pricier, but definitely a fun gathering. I'm not aware of another Hibachi place in the area, and I've been a couple different times, with similar results. The sushi I've had has also been tasty. I recommend the chicken and shrimp, particularly. The waitstaff is always friendly. There isn't usually a wait. They refill the water frequently.
