The place is stunning! Unfortunately, the chow and service didn't match. I always enjoyed their Concord location and waited with great anticipation as this location was being planned, delayed, built. This visit was ok, but I expected much better. Food was pretty much hit and miss. Spare Ribs ok, Kobe Maki vg, Tso Chicken was weak, doesn't tast like chicken, Chow Fun noodles vg. What was excellent was the Green Beans. Loved the Sant Aniol Sparkling Water... never had it before. Service also needs improvement. We came for an early dinner and service was great, attentive... then suffered when other tables began getting seated. Basically, they need to schedule more staff... and management not really engaged. This review is based on the experience, not the food. The food was actually delicious which is why I am disappointed to write this. I was so excited to take my family here for my son and husband's birthday. We ordered food but the waiter forgot to put in the main dish which was the Peking duck. In the meantime, my son was drinking milk out of the glass and the glass broke in my son's mouth! I was completely in shock that this happened. Service was excellent--Olga, our waitress, was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Only downside is the price. Phenomenal, I will be back! Plenty of parking, it's part of a shopping center so you'll find something. Servers are friendly, attentive, and do no forget about you! You can book ahead for a reservation, and if you're lucky and want to get in sooner you might be able to walk in on a busy night. They have an excellent menu of sushi and this was my first time trying it fresh! I've always heard of people talking about the freshness of sushi, and I didn't understand the importance & difference it can make! I tried their garlic & spicy edamame, a few lobster rolls. The pricing is flexible depending on how fancy you feel you, the higher you go the higher the quality. The restaurant has soft yellow lights, is awesome as a date spot, and usually I'm not a fan of sitting at the bar, but I definitely was a fan at this restaurant. You can see the chef putting together your plates right before the serve it to you. The only thing I ask to change is for bigger cups for water, or having the option of having a water pitcher in reach; the cups are small so you'll go through your beverage pretty quick. I am giving this restaurant only 1 star, not because the food was bad, not because our server was not amazing and not because the cocktails were top notch. I am giving it one star because of the manager - Kern. We are a group of friends that often come to eat and enjoy. In our last two visits we had such a bad experience. Two weeks ago we went for dinner and the fire alarm started, no issue right ? Kern went around the restaurant and told customers that they can leave if they want but need to cash out, we did not leave so we had at the moment no issue. In brief, five stars for the food and the design, two stars for service. The place is gorgeous (with prices to match). But long before the food arrived, not so good. Ordered a couple of glasses of wine from the drinks menu, and several minutes later we were told they didn't have that one. So, knowing the alternative on the menu was a good one, ordered that. Well, they didn't have that one either. Soon after ordering, the appetizer arrived with one entree. Many, many minutes later the wine appeared. Then finally the other entrees. Luckily, the food was exceptional. The menu is extensive fusion Asian. Shishito peppers were done perfectly. Pad Thai was very good. The lemon basil salmon "special " maki was excellent. And the classic salmon avocado maki just as good. I'd probably stick with the classics in the future, since I don't need all the special gunk (I don't mean that in a bad way), since it takes away from the fish. Got takeout last night, three items, hot and sour soup, edamame and chicken and shrimp pad Thai the edamame was clearly frozen then microwaved because some of it was ridiculously hot and others were ice cold. The hot and sour soup was oddly sweet and not hot nor sour the Pad Thai was quite unusual. The chicken was a rubbery, gelatinous, almost squid like consistency with a bit of a seafood taste the shrimp were good. As for atmosphere I almost slipped and fell walking into the place. The three people behind the counter, ignored me and tried to assist a person behind me. overall overpriced, unfriendly staff, and awful food! read more

The chefs at the bar were super friendly but our server was a very young kid and maybe lack experience but we felt he was not friendly at all so that kind of ruined the experience for us. Wonderful food and wonderful evening ruined by an overbearing and down right rude General Manager , Saturday evening 4th March we enjoying a wonderful family event, everyone was happy with the food , the service and the ambience . Definitely a 5 Star night that i would have happily reported a such , until!!!! At 8.50PM on the dot a largish gentleman( and he was no gentleman) came to our booth and told us our 2 hour limit limit was up and we had to leave . No preamble, no introduction . We still had drinks in front of us, so it was obvious we were not completely finished . His manner was rude and abrupt, never asked did we enjoy our night, enjoy our meal . I have no issue with a time limit as the venue wants to be able to turn over tables, but the professional thing to do would be to give people a heads up in advance and a few minutes grace period to finish our drinks . Adding to the issue was that fact that by 8.50PM there were plenty of vacant tables and booths, so there was no real reason why the table was needed. Our time stamped receipt had us seated at 6.50PM, so it looks like he is super user of his timing software and he arrived at out table at 8.50PM, an algorithm driven decision maker who followed policy to a tee. Given his high handed and arrogant manner we chose not to even engage him and took the following course of action Paid our server a generous tip as he fully deserved it Paid our bill and left without further comment Agreed we would never come back Agreed we would never miss and opportunity to let our friends and family know what an awful experience we had and why despite the excellent food the location is best avoided So the GM achieved whatever aim he ha don the night and we wil continue with our aim to ensure no one in our circle ever goes there. read more

Modern design, amazing food, super fun drinks and great service- what not to like;)??

We went to Karma to celebrate my in-laws' birthday, and I went in expecting a really fancy dinner. Some of it definitely lived up to that and some didn't. The sushi was fantastic - fresh, beautifully presented, and definitely the highlight of the night. The Salmon on Fire was super fancy and fun to watch, and the ginger lobster was excellent and worth the market price. My kids loved the scallion pancakes, and the pineapple fried rice was pretty good too. A few dishes were just okay like the General Tso's chicken and mapo tofu. They tasted fine, but honestly about the same as what you'd get at a regular Chinese restaurant, just at three times the cost. There were also some funny moments - almost every dish went to the wrong table. The table next to us hadn't even ordered yet, and at one point one of our dishes got handed to them while they were still giving their order. It happened so many times we just started laughing about it. Our table was way too small for how much food we ordered - I actually had to hold a plate in my hand at one point because there wasn't any space left. I had also noted on the reservation that it was a birthday, but there was no acknowledgment. No "happy birthday," no dessert mention, nothing. We also were never offered a dessert menu, which felt like a miss. The restaurant itself looks great with a very upscale vibe. Probably not the best place to bring kids, even though I brought mine. It also didn't seem like the kind of spot where people come to get full. Most of the other tables just had a couple of small dishes and drinks - it's more of a "dress up and sip cocktails" kind of place than a "family dinner" place. Service was fine overall, though our server seemed a bit impatient. All in all, Karma has some excellent dishes and a great atmosphere, but a few little things kept it from being perfect. I'd come back for the sushi and lobster, but next time I'd probably leave the kids at home and just enjoy the fancy side of it. read more

Overall the food was pretty good, but the service was a miss. I went with a group of 5 ladies and we were seated at a round table in front. It wasn't cozy but it was good for sharing as we had a lazy susan in the table. Our waiter took the drink order and brought over only 3 of the 5 drinks and said he would take our app order and go back for the other drinks. So 2 of us sat there without drinks for 10 minutes and were unable to toast and sip etc., which was super annoying. Just go back and get the other drinks and then take the order! Anyway, we had the steamed shrimp dumplings (excellent), Wagyu Beef ($90 and prepared at the table on a hot stone -- excellent again), and veggie gyoza (very good). Later we had the crispy rice with tuna (ok), lemon basil salmon maki (ok), and a foie gras sushi special, which again, was just ok. We had a few other maki rolls, but they were pretty forgettable. Place has just been open barely over a week so will provide a detailed review. Went there for a late night dinner - needed a reservation as it was packed. The decor and ambiance are beautiful with a themed, classy vibe. We were a tad early and got seated right away. Our server was very helpful and attentive throughout the evening. Decided to forgo the sushi and Japanese dishes this time. We had an array of appetizers: hot and sour soup (solid but didn't need the cheap fried noodles on top), scallion pancakes (just a tad too greasy but flavor was good), duck buns (very tasty and the folks in our party who haven't had much duck liked them...I thought just a tad too much hoisin but still tasty), and the XLB which tasted fine (certainly not DTF quality but serviceable). For entrees we shared the Mango chicken, Singapore Mei fun rice noodles, and the Yuen yang spicy beef. You can ask them to modify the spice level. The presentation of the dishes was well done. I was surprised that the entrees do NOT come with any rice given the price points. One friend loved her mai tai and it was consistent in both rounds. Another friend ordered the pandan colada - first one was very strong, second one tasted like it had zero alcohol. Given they're so new, this didn't take away from the overall experience which was very positive. We were actually surprised there weren't more issues. I liked the food, contrary to some reviews. We had some great rolls, the Peking Duck and the Drunken Lobster. I was not blown away, but fine. We had two servers who were solid. Oh and the cocktails, while pricey, were good, particularly the fancy Manhattan (I forgot what they called it). So why three stars? First, I really can't stand reminder texts, including one 30 minutes before our reservation, when we were already in the car. Second, they are really serious about the two hour limit. Like they mention it at the time of reservation, in the annoying reminder texts and, incredibly, as we checked in to sit down. I get they have to run a business, but it is hard to feel like much more than a "revenue-generating unit" that must fit into a consultant driven "process flow" and "profitability matrix." It kills the magic (note: we were out in 1h35min). Second I have to disagree on the decor. It gave off 1990's P.F. Chang's vibes. Sorry. My 15-year old daughter liked it, though. This place was pretty hyped up as a new, hip, place in Wellesley. By the time something moves from Boston to Wellesley, it has moved from "hip" to "trendy." I met a friend for dinner last night, my first visit to Karma! We shared a spicy tuna roll, bao buns, dumplings and pad Thai. The food was delicious! Pad Thai was a bit sweet and spicy tuna rolls not very spicy (which worked for us because my friend doesn't like spicy) but really good nonetheless. The atmosphere is amazing, the room is laid out in a circular way, the bar is gorgeous and the whole atmosphere is upscale. Service was fantastic. Can't wait to go back! read more

I went on a date here with my girlfriend tonight. Server took our order, dropped off food (got my drink wrong), and we didn't see him for 2 hours, which is when we asked for the check. As a result, I reduced his tip. After I cashed out, he complained about this to my girlfriend and I, then *asked for a higher tip*. All of a sudden, the manager comes over with a horrible attitude telling us we have to leave because we've been over two hours. He did not even try to come to us in a kind and polite way. I'm giving 3 stars for food because of the high price. If you going to come into Wellesley and charge a high price for food, I expect the food to be better than Chinatown. I can go to Chinatown for the same stuff at half the price. Their sushi doesn't look fresh. It's a dark brown tuna and the staff told me it's just the darkness of the place that's made the tuna looks darker than normal. I'm giving 1 star for service. I'm having the same problems with others that posted their reviews. Rude and attitude before they give a solution. I have to give 5 stars for the layout of the place.
