I've been here a couple times now and it has been a great experience each time I stopped in. They staff is very friendly and makes sure to greet you right away, they're happy to answer any questions you may have and tell you more about their offerings. On my latest visit I stopped in with my husband and we ordered the Homura Aburasoba ($16.95) and the Keema Curry Aburasoba ($14.95) and added mushrooms (+2.95) and mozzarella cheese (+1.25), along with the oroshi ponzu karaage ($10). The food came out hot and fresh and while the portions look regular, they are filling. My husband and I both took home about half of our food plus most of the karaage appetizer as leftovers. Everything was delicious though, and we liked that they have some condiments to adjust your spice level if you'd like to. While I loved my choice (which is their top option, we agreed we LOVED the Keema curry aburasoba and thought the curry flavors were delicious. There's plenty of parking and they have a good amount of seating inside including tables and seating along the windows.
We went on a Sunday evening and there was no line. This was all of our first time here and none of us have heard of Aburasoba; including my Japanese friend. Aburasoba is basically a soupless ramen. it's different, but good; we all enjoyed it. The Karaage was good but I would skip the takoyaki. Small place, outside seating available. Service was great.
I was hesitant about coming here for a long time because I felt like dry ramen would be too dry for me, but I was wrong. I actually really enjoyed the food here including the dry noodles. The karage was delicious, you should get this dish. Chicken was so tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The spicy tofu was okay. I opted for the original noodle which was pretty good. It's not really dry. It actually has some sauce on the bottom to mix in. I added a poached egg on top and mixed that all in which made it creamier. The spicy noodle was pretty good too. I'd like to come back to try other dishes at some point.
If you love noodles that are springy and perfectly chewy, this is the place. The noodles are truly the star here--bouncy, flavorful, and cooked just right every time. The sauces and toppings complement the noodles really well without overpowering them. It's the kind of spot where you keep coming back for the addicting noodle texture. That said, I've found the appetizers and toppings to be nothing particularly special, which is why I'm landing at a 4/5 instead of a full 5. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Service is quick, the space feels welcoming, and most importantly, the food is incredibly consistent.
Kajiken Ramen absolutely delivered. I ordered the KEEMA Aburasoba (no parsley, half ajitama), and it was . The noodles were perfectly cooked--springy, chewy, and coated in that rich, savory keema sauce that had a deep, umami-packed flavor with just the right amount of spice. Every bite tasted incredibly fresh, from the noodles to the seasoned meat. The half ajitama on top was jammy and smooth, adding that perfect creamy balance to the dish. You can really taste the quality here--nothing felt heavy or overly greasy, just clean, bold flavor done right. On top of that, the dining area is super clean and has a cute, welcoming vibe that makes you want to sit and enjoy your meal instead of rushing out. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. Im a big fan of Kajiken and is definitely worth a visit. It's a great spot that focuses on Aburasoba, soupless ramen)l, and the quality of their homemade noodles really stands out--they have a perfect chew that makes every dish work. I've tried a good portion of the menu, and honestly, every dish has been a hit. Two standouts you should definitely consider, Keema Curry is a fantastic choice if you want something aromatic and comforting. The curry sauce clings perfectly to the thick noodles, providing a rich, savory depth without being overpowering and Nikumori For those who like a bit of a kick, this one is excellent. It's loaded with a generous portion of meat, and the spice level adds a nice brightness to the dish that keeps you coming back for more. The service is consistently good, and the food comes out fresh and flavorful every time. It's easily one of the more reliable spots in the area, if you're a noodle fan, you won't be disappointed
What a delicious, scrumptious meal and well crafted ambiance and reasonable pricing!!! Love this noodle restaurant, and can't wait to return for when the cravings hit. I was looking for a japanese noodle place but wasn't fully feeling ramen or udon, and landed on this wonderful hybrid option of soupless dry-noodle ramen: aburasoba! Oh my goodness - the portion that they give you and the price that you pay is SO WORTH IT. My party ordered the Original Aburasoba (picture with the egg yolk on the side) and Nikumori Aburasoba (picture with the egg yolk in the middle of the bowl). WOW - the freshness of the chopped scallions down to the bounce of the noodle to the beautiful golden yolk was fantastic. The blend of flavors is so filling, so luscious, so so so yummy. It reminds me of meals I had when I visited Japan, especially the egg. The amount they gave was sizable and I left very satisfied. The way the restaurant is designed is also super cozy with the wooden accents, soft lighting, high ceilings, and big floor to ceiling windows that allowed sunlight to illuminate the store with vibrancy. The waitress was also absolutely lovely - the way she addressed my party when we entered, to being seated, to answering our questions about the menu, to bringing our dishes. A+ service! Super kind and professional and welcoming. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Elk Grove, big thumbs up!
We ordered from Kajiken for takeout, and if it was great at takeout I can just imagine it already being even better at the actual restaurant itself! From the menu we ordered the Roast Beef Aburasoba and added on corn, fried onion, spinach and mushroom. We also ordered the Nikumori Aburasoba(thin sliced pork and spicy ground pork), and added on a side of unagi. We weren't sure what to expect because we never ordered dry before, but speaking for us usual broth-loving people, THIS WAS AMAZING! The flavors won't make you wish you had broth at all it's 100% satisfying. All the flavors and creaminess mixed together for the Roast Beef Aburasoba are pure happiness in your mouth. In comparison to the Nikumori Aburasoba, if you like softer meat and appreciate slight spice in your food the Nikumori Aburasoba will be the one to get. If creaminess is more of what you want, and you don't mind more chew get the Roast Beef Aburasoba. This was paired well with a Diet Coke for us also. What a satisfying meal! We will definitely be back for more in the future. Highly recommend.
My friend and I were lucky to get seating immediately when we came here on a Friday evening because there was a long line waiting after we finished our meal. We shared their Takoyaki, which was covered in crispy flakes and was crisp itself and soft on the inside. These were full of flavor and paired well with our noodles. I tried their Original Aburasoba since it was my first time. The noodles were chewy and flavorful, and I love the concept of the dry noodles since I was able to appreciate more of the noodles, sauce, and the balance of savory elements throughout. The chashu pork that went along with the dish was fresh and blended well with the generous portion of the noodles. It was a satisfying meal that felt comforting without being too heavy, and the waiters were friendly in answering our questions and serving us!
For the dry ramen lovers, undoubtedly. There isn't another restaurant that I know of that sell dry ramen. They also have a new menu of 3 different types of tonkatsu ramen with broth in it, and currently a winter menu of one special item. Located in a very busy plaza with amazing fresh directly across from it sharing the same parking lot. Sephora, Fleet Feet and some other well known chain restaurants. Came at 5pm on a Sunday night and we were the 3rd table. Not until almost 6 pm did the restaurant fill. It is a tiny restaurant. Service was nice. Hot tea and hot water is free. Their tap water didn't taste well. I tried my friend's Tonkatsu spicy ramen and my other friend's dry ramen before I decided to order my dish. The Tonkatsu ramen noodles were too overcooked for me. The broth was nice and salty but I wish it was a little more rich. There's only a few pieces of meat with a lot of noodles. Imported for the dry noodles, the second item because it has both sliced and ground meat. The noodles are egg noodles and had a nice chewy texture. It is very heavy and a lot to finish during one sitting. I added garlic flakes and more chili paste into it, available at the table. For appetizer- we had the geso- it was delicious because it's the whole body. Very crunchy with the spicy mayo.
Since trying the Kajiken in San Mateo, I happen to be in Elk Grove, and tried this place before closing. Reading the reviews, there is long lines here, but since I went 20 minutes before closing, there was no line. I went on Friday night, I ordered online, and food came out quick. Of course, eating it there is best for the freshness- I always order the Homura Aburasoba, and the Cold tofu Appetizer! It's a cold Soba, or broth less- but the flavors are impeccable! The Homura Ahurasoba is: Spicy minced pork, green onions, bamboo shoots, seaweed, fish powder, chives, and raw egg yolk (can sub ajitama or poached egg)!!! Smaller spot vs San Mateo but good seating still, newer, and in a nice area with lots of parking! I will be back!
I had a great experience with the service that we received. The staff members were always checking up on us and always made sure we had our water refilled. There was a water jug refill on the table and he would always come around and refill it and check on how we were going. This time I ordered the original number 1 and it was still delicious as ever and full of flavor. Still a heavy meal but once in a while is fine. The pork gives it a nice rich flavor. read more
Hubby and I went here for the first time this weekend. It's such a cute and cozy spot. We got the karage chicken (delicious!) and the top 1 and top 3. I loved the top 3!! Top 1 was good but top 3 was better. I brought home the left overs of my top 1 and when I reheated it, it was still delicious! Cannot wait to come back. Also service was amazing! read more

I've been coming to Kajiken many times now and finally putting a review for them. Each time I've gone to Kajiken, their customer service has been 10/10. Whether I am dining in or ordering for take out, their servers are attentive, friendly, and goes above and beyond to make sure our visit is a good one. Some of our favorites for food are the following: - Homura Aburasoba: if it is your first time and you like a little spice .. I would recommend this dish for the first-timers! It's flavorful and has all the great toppings. - Karamen Aburasoba: This is a good one if you want another protein that is not pork! The diced chashu are in good and big portions. The cabbage is a great addition in this particular bowl too. Highly recommend getting the poached egg for this one! TanTan Abursoba: I would recommend this one if you like the sesame flavor and a little spice! Great sesame flavor comes out of this one! - Roast Beef Aburasoba: I didn't order this one until I went to Kajiken a few times. The raw egg yolk was intimidating BUT once the bowl is mixed.. all the toppings with the chaliapin sauce, yogurt sauce, and the raw egg yolk blends so well together and makes the entire dish very creamy!!! If you like a creamy type of dish -- this is the one for you! This is now my favorite!! Another tip is if you still have left over toppings from your Abursoba, order the Mentaiko Rice and mix it in with your left overs. That makes it another whole dish. The Mentaiko Rice bowl on its own is great with the spicy cod roe! One of my faves for the rice bowls. For appetizers, highly recommend the Takoyaki and Oroshi Ponzu Karaage! read more

Wanted to give them 5 stars especially since we've received multiple recommendations from people, but our experience was ok. We ordered the oroshi ponzu karaage and it came out pretty much immediately after we placed the order. It was lukewarm and not crispy, and overall gave me the impression that it was not fresh but reheated. We got the homura aburasoba and original aburasoba. I recommend getting the original if it's your first time trying Kajiken. Noodle texture was pretty good, bouncy and chewy. Ambience is nice but limited seating. read more
Came here around 6PM on a Saturday for my birthday dinner and again really loved this place. We came right before rush hour and were greeted and seated immediately. We were able to take our order not long after we sat down and received our order quickly. We ordered an Oroshi Ponzu Karaage ($10), 1 Takoyaki ($8.50), and 2 Nikumori Aburasoba ($18.50 each). I really enjoyed the Oroshi Ponzu Karaage, it was super flavorful and crunchy. I did take them home as leftovers but it doesn't taste as good fresh. The Nikumori Aburasoba is definitely the most favorite I've tried so far. I didn't have to add anything in terms of flavor, it is listed as spicy on the menu but it was very light. I did get it with a poached egg rather than raw and I think it made a big difference with the texture so I would definitely recommend. Again, great customer service and tasty food. Can't wait to come back again to try other items on the menu. read more

The only ramen place in Elk Grove worth going to in my opinion. This place serves dry ramen and most recently added regular ramen with broth to their menu. The place is small, there are tables and some bar seats. It's not set up to sit and chat for long periods of time. The dry ramen is very rich and heavy, so I try to not eat the whole serving because I wouldn't be able to eat until the next day. Definitely recommend coming here for ramen! Pros: The dine in experience reminds me of my dine in experience in Japan. Food is out quickly and once you are finished, you don't linger too long. The wait isn't long for a table. Food is flavorful and rich, it's hard not to eat it all in one sitting. I usually order noodles but I've had their rice bowls and they're really good too. Cons: none read more

I was in the Elk Grove area for a family event and stopped by Kajiken on the way home! I've heard so many good things about this place, but never got the chance to try it because the closest one to me is the San Mateo location. The servers were super friendly and helpful when discussing about the menu options and kept checking up on our table throughout the night. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice. They even have the heaters set up outdoor in case it gets cold. I ordered the wagyu roast beef aburasoba and everything in the plate was amazing! The beef was perfectly cooked, the crispy onion and green onion with the sauce mixed into the noodles and yolk made it so flavorful. I've tried several dry noodle spots in the Bay Area and SoCal, but Kajiken is my #1! Overall, I really recommend Kajiken if you're in the Elk Grove or San Mateo area - it's a must try!! Definitely going to come back someday to try their keema curry aburasoba :) read more
Dry ramen always seemed like a cool concept, so was excited to try this spot with my friend. I ordered the Nikumori Aburasoba which came with spicy minced pork, pork slices, green onions, and raw egg yolk. I really enjoyed it! It came with a surplus of meat and the spicy sauce was really tasty. It was definitely a bigger portion, so definitely enough for leftovers for a second meal. Me and my friend went right when it opened over a weekend, and service was very fast. I would definitely come back, and would be interested in trying some of the other options. read more
Finally got a chance to try Kajiken, and I'm a fan. I'm glad they opened a location in Elk Grove. I came on a weekday lunch and it wasn't busy at all, though I've noticed there's usually a line on the evenings and more so on the weekends, so I would try to come during the week. Since it was our first visit, we went with their signature aburasoba noodles: Homura Aburasoba - Their number one seller. I'd rate it a solid 4.8/5. Great flavor, though it had a bit too many green onions for my taste. Nikumori Aburasoba - Their second most popular bowl, and I actually preferred this one over the Homura. Easy 5/5. Ika Geso Calamari Karaage - I'd give this a 4.8/5. Good flavor, but it felt slightly under-fried and could've been crispier. Service was quick, the staff was friendly, and ordering was super easy. I liked how the noodles were fresh, I also loved the atmosphere--bright, welcoming, and great lighting for photos! Looking forward to coming back! read more

The food was okay(noodles were nice the beef bowl was terrible). We ordered the calamari but the server forgot about it. And we were kinda rushed out because there was a group of people waiting for a spot to open. read more

This place is delicious, there's no way around that. The service is always wonderful, inside is comfy, and it's overall a good vibe. I feel bad for not writing a good review back when they opened, and I hope some day I can return and update this, but people have to know what they're paying for. I placed a to go order (meals for 3) and picked up right on time, and by the time I got home (5 minute drive) everything was congealed. The worst part were the add ons. For $2.50 I added roast beef and I don't think a deli could have sliced it thinner. For $1.25 I added mozzarella (out of curiosity) and received a mini cup of 10 shreds of cheese. I never thought I'd be able to count individual strands, especially when a whole pouch of shredded cheese is $4. I feel scammed for sure. And again, totally delicious, and yes I understand inflation is real, but the markup on these ingredients is insane and not worth it at all. read more

I'd have to say this is the best tasting 'dry' ramen. Each bowl has its own unique flavors and you can't go wrong with any of them. Always great service when coming here. Staff is attentive and ready to answer any questions you have about the menu. Although the space is small, I'd still come back for lunch and dinner. read more

We came close to closing, we were seated right away, and the service was very helpful in making a selection. I loved that it felt like no frills and good food. A bright and open cafe, a good spot with friends for a quick bite. Came with a friend and still had a good time, we each ordered one bowl and then a small one on the side to share. We were surprised to find no wait for an early weekday dinner. This location is small with about 10-15 tables and outdoor seating. This is not our first time at Kajiken so we were open to trying something new on the menu. We ordered the unagi aburasoba off the special menu and nikumori. Both were delicious and the unagi was plentiful. I really like the chili oil and vinegar condiments so you can tailor the dish to your specific taste. Coming into the little restaurant, I noticed there was limited seating, but if you come in on a busy day, I'd recommend the wait. This was my first time trying this type of noodle and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the texture of the noodles and the toppings on the noodles made the experience better. Although the portion size doesn't seem intimidating, it is very filling. It's okay though, because the leftovers taste just as good the next day. I personally enjoyed the original and the homura aburasoba because I love the texture that the bamboo shoots add to the noodles. The sides were also flavorful and served as a good appetizer. Always love this place! The aburasoba is so flavorful and similar to the ones in Japan. The roast beef aburasoba is my favorite. It's very creamy and the meat is very tender. My partner got the nikukori arubasoba (which is their top 2 dish). We shared the ponzu karaage. Their karaage is not the crispy version (which they explicitly advertise, so no complaints) but definitely flavorful. Service was friendly and fast. A nice spot to eat alone or go on a date. read more

I came here on a Sunday with two of my girlfriends after a long night of drinking. I have been wanting to try soup-less ramen for quite some time, and it was a perfect option for a warm, summer day. We were able to get a table outside right before lunch service ended. My girlfriends ordered the Homura Aburasoba, and I ordered the Nikumori Aburasoba. There were extra condiments available at the table to add more flavor to your noodles - vinegar, chili oil, and chili powder. My dish was pretty flavorful, but I did add extra chili powder for extra spice. The portion size was perfect, which made the price worth it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who cannot eat hot soup/broth during the summer, like me! read more

Ok-- who knew soupless ramen could taste soooo GOOD. Our waiter, I think his name was Derek? I can't remember, but he was so wonderful and patient. He went through the menu items with us and answered all the questions we had. He checked in every so often, which I appreciated. He even offered tips on how to dress up our ramen for some extra razzle dazzle. I ordered the Homura Aburasoba and my goodness, I want to eat the everyday til the day I die. It's THAT good. When you mix it all together, it creates an umami flavor that is just indescribable. Perfect for a hot day when you want ramen but it's just too hot for soup! There's limited seating for such a small space. I'm assuming it gets busy earlier in the day or during meal times because they've got a line barrier outside. Plenty of parking spaces available in the plaza. Right next to Somi Somi if you're craving dessert after. Overall wonderful experience and can't wait to come back!! read more
We arrived an hour before it closed and there were 2 parties in front of us for dine in, but saw that they were busy with orders as well. They offered inside tables as well outdoor patio dining. Inside was super bright with minimal decor. Service was a bit slow to even order. My noodles came out but they forgot about my sides. I had to ask for it. I had the #1 popular and added a side of charsu. It was a different approach to eating ramen as a dry version but still tasty. It was plentiful portion of noodles. I would order again, but would try other ones as well. The cold tofu was good and refreshing. I had this dish for the first time in Japan at a omakase so I knew what to expect. The sauce taste similar but the tofu was slight firmer than what I had prior. This dish is easily shareable. The calamari- i really enjoyed how crunchy the batter was. Been wanting to come here since I read about it earlier this year. My honey wanted ramen, I was mistaken and had no broth, it is more of a soba noodle in sauce with toppings. Had something similar in Tokyo or Hawaii recently. Ambiance Small, very clean, modern. Customer Service It was good. Homura Aburasoba This had spicy minced pork with raw egg. Soboro Aburasoba This had minced chicken with raw egg. Both had lots of flavor. Noodles very good. Pan Fried Gyoza It was ok, could have had a better sear. read more
Ordered togo and the portion was pretty big! Made sure to mix up all the onions and egg and pork mince up with the noodles and this dry style ramen was good. The noodles had a good chew and there was a lot of pork belly. I do think the flavor from other dry style ramen restaurants I have had (menya hanabi, mogu mogu) are more savory and flavorful than this one though. Wouldn't order from the "sauces" section on doordash next time, we thought the garlic/chili/sesame was going to be a sauce, but it is just those plain toppings for an extra $2! I went to Kajiken on a Sunday afternoon a little before their mid-day close at 1PM and it was a packed house. It was initially unclear whether you're supposed to go up and order first or if you're supposed to wait to be seated, but I walked up to the cashier to ask and she kindly placed us at a seat in front of the window. Once my boyfriend and I decided on our order, it was again unclear if she's going to come back or if we need to walk up and order considering we waited for some time to place our order. So I walk up to the register and ask if I should place my order with her up there which we end up doing. I order the Oroshi Ponzu Karaage & Nikumori Aburasoba (with a poached egg, which was recommended by the cashier). The Oroshi Ponzu Karaage was good, but not exciting. The chicken was good, but the dish definitely could have used more flavor or crunch (to be fair though, the menu does say this karaage is not crunchy so I was prepared at least). The Nikumori Aburasoba (aka Top 2) was good, but not super exciting either. The pork slices were tough, I probably would have enjoyed the dish if it was tender. By this point, I (respectfully) concluded that this is as a Japanese chow mein. I personally feel like the ingredients could have been fresher, it was as if the meal lacked texture. With all that said, the experience & ambiance felt like a fast food restaurant by the way it operates - to the point where it feels like a chain restaurant. I'd say it's a good place to go to if you're looking to fix that noodle craving. I acknowledge that I came here right after trying a couple pastries from the local Japanese bakery so maybe that may have impacted my appetite. I'm not sure I'd return to try more but if you're looking to try this place out, I would say these bowls can be split as I shared this meal with my boyfriend and we are still leaving with left overs. If I could give one feedback to the restaurant around operations, it would be to put a yelp waitlist tablet outside or a sign up sheet as it can get confusing - especially when people are waiting out front to be seated outside which can be perceived as a line. read more
