Had a nice lunch at Ebisu today. Their entrees are very good, and so are the bento boxes. Especially if you can't decide between two items. For the bento box, I usually get the mixed tempura as one of my choices, but because i couldn't decide between one the protein, my two choices were Beef teriyaki and Chicken teriyaki. With the entrees and bento boxes, miso soup is served. It seems more watered down than it's been in the past, but it's still good, and a soothing starter. The beef and chicken teriyaki is served in thin strips and is nice and tender. The salad was a bit bitter, and their dressing is creamy and on the sweet side. We chose a couple of rolls with our meal. The I-5 roll and the Sacramento roll. They seemed almost the same, and was recommended because it was suppose to be the most similar to the California roll, but I think I'm going to stick with the Lobster roll the next time. My parents recently discovered the secret menu that is the $50 all you can eat! Either it's a special deal for just my Asian mandarin speaking parents, or it might be the real deal! It was the waiter's recommendation when my father and his friends came over after some golf. While 50 large isn't something to sneeze at, nowadays it's just about there with 2 rolls! What does it come with? It starts with a set menu of slices of high grade and generous cut of sashimi, ami ebi, toro, hamachi, salmon tuna etc. lobster roll, oysters with uni on top, cooked dishes of hamachi kama, sea bass and lamb chops! I've been to Ebisu a couple times and always more impressed than the last visit. The restaurant is spacious, clean with attentive service. We ordered the spicy edamame, tiger roll, caterpillar roll and sashimi special. Every dish Ebisu makes looks like a culinary work of art - and tastes just as great. The portions are tremendous. Came in on a Friday night and it was pretty busy but we got sat right away without a wait. Ordered the teriyaki and sesame chicken entrees. They brought out my fiancés food first, and mine finally like 15 mins later. They must've forgotten about mine because by the time mine came out, the chicken was piping hot but the veggies on the plate were already cold. Not even room temperature, but just cold. It was better than some of the other local places but I've had better in Bay Area and So Cal. I decided to give Ebisu another chance because it's close to home and Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. I ordered takeout, and my entire Hokkaido roll was made with shrimp that still had the shell/skin on. Every piece had it, making the roll unpleasant and difficult to eat. This isn't something that should make it out of the kitchen, especially with sushi where the texture is such an important part of the experience. Regarding the ambiance, it's got hints of Japanese decor here and there but was more of a cafeteria style dining area. There's a large room with lots of tables and seating arrangements. Overall, I was pretty impressed by The taste of the food as the beef teriyaki was quite tender/smoky and the sesame chicken had a great batter to chicken ratio. I should note that their teriyaki sauce is quite sweet, so I advise that you should ask for it on the side if you don't like your food that sweet. It came with plenty of white rice to eat with it too. The entree also came with a salad with some light dressing which was and fresh. No wilted leaves here! Decided to finally check this place out because of the entree coupon. Inside was bigger than i expected but only a couple tables. When we first walked in a noticed some off smell, maybe something with sewer or bathroom but idk didnt smell great. We got seated and ordered two bentos, one with teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef, other with teriyaki beef and chicken katsu. One came out like maybe 10 mins the other maybe like 15 mins. The food was mid, nothing special. Beef was chewy had alot of tendons or wtv that were hard to eat, katsu not bad a bit dry, chicken teriyaki was like quite dry and hard(?) or like overcooked kinda texture. I have to say they have the freshest tasting fish in Elk Grove. The service is attentive without being smothering. My family and I stopped by EBISU for dinner on 6/18/26. I heard that this particular restaurant was a great spot in Elk Grove. We unfortunately found that was not the case. The three of us out of a party of 5 ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, unfortunately all our ramen bowls lacked flavor, especially the broth, which was bland, the ramen noodles were over cooked and also lacked flavor. The noodles were something like were would find from an instant ramen noodles package from the local asian supermarket. One bowl in particular had a heavy bamboo shoot taste in the broth, also 2 out of 3 Tonkotsu bowls had clumpy noodles that were sticking together. The gentleman that greeted us at the door and the same person who took our order was not very friendly, typical of Asian restaurant culture. We waited 10 mins for water to be served to us. The staff looked overwhelmed, 3 staff members for front of the house for a Thursday dinner service?
