We were excited to try this place for the first time. We came here Sunday evening and only 2 other tables were occupied. I wasn't hungry so didn't really want to eat much. We decided on chicken katsu curry, cold tofu and chicken karaage. Portion for the curry was huge. The flavors were good. Cold tofu was decent but nothing special. We had the chicken ironyaki which came out on a skillet with corn and salad on the side that was presented nicely. It also was tasty and filling. We also ordered a salmon sushi roll that was decent. Looking around, the other tables around us all had ramen bowls. I think this place must be known for their ramen, so when we return we would have to try their ramen. What a great find ! Came to this place, based on a recommendation. it's tucked away in a quiet little shopping plaza, and that makes one wonder if they get enough traffic. However, I was happy to learn that they are in their third year, so the local residents have discovered how great this place is. Probably the best Ramen I have had in years. I had the Tonkatsu spicy Ramen, and the noodles were nice and chewy, the broth was perfection ... spicy, and substantial . The egg was perfectly jammy, and the pork belly cuts were fatty, but chewy and just perfectly seasoned. We started off with one of their appetizers that was a take on a Japanese style taco, and it was probably one of the best appetizers I've ever had. The spouse had the sushi and it was a crispy, jalapeño based sushi and he declared it to be excellent. What really separates this place from other small establishments is that the chef here has really thought about the dishes, and understood not just complexity of flavor, but also complexity of texture. So as a result, you get these dishes that provide great flavor but at the same time engage with your palette in a wonderful way. I cannot recommend this space enough. Service was also excellent . They only had one server but she was on top of it all and smiling the whole time . If you aren't eating here you are missing out . Finally, absolutely love the ambience of the place. Don't let the lack of people fool you though, this place has very good food. Their Hokkaido Ramen is always spot on. It's very flavorful and the portion is more than enough. New favorite alert! Was next door at the 3D printing studio and decided to stop by for lunch- so glad I did. We got an unagi skewer and a pork belly skewer to start. These come out piping hot with the perfect amount of char. The unagi was soft with the perfect amount of sauce. The pork belly was tender and melts in your mouth- must try! I got the garlic tonkatsu ramen, which the waitress said is her family's favorite. It comes loaded with noodles, tender pork, perfect soft egg. The broth is not too salty or garlicky, and random but the bowl keeps everything so nice and warm. My boyfriend got the hamburger curry. The rice was perfectly cooked and the curry was so flavorful and comforting. The hamburger patty could've been seasoned a tad more, but it was still delicious. Service was ok but they got our order wrong for the beef tongue skewers. They were able to fix that but also got it wrong on the check too. Still fixed but a bit of a hassle. Food wise was ok. They have some items that were quite good like the beef tongue skewers and chicken karage. However the sauce for the chicken skewers and hamburger was way too salty. It helps if you wash it down with alcohol but it's kind of hard to eat otherwise. Maybe they had an off night? The meats themselves were great. We drive from PDX to LA and always stay in Elk Grove. This is close to our hotel and we were pleasantly surprised how delicious our soups and dumplings were. I had the bone marrow ramen and the broth and as flavorful and clean. Love the simplicity of the soup. My husband had a spicy traditional ramen and he enjoyed it. Decided to take a stab at Washoku located in Stonelake. It's a pretty small space and on this day, only one staff member running the floor. It was pretty busy, so we had to wait a few minutes to get seated. The have a bunch of things on their menu, but I specifically really wanted to try the pork belly skewers. And i'm so glad I did because it was absolutely delicious and melted in my mouth! Highly recommend!! The spicy Shoyu was good and filling, but definitely not spicy enough! Finally! Some variety in a Japanese restaurant in Sac. What I can definitely appreciate about Washoku is their menu. It should contain a little something for everyone and features the major pillars of Japanese cuisine - sushi, katsu, and ramen. Speaking of which, I'm happy to report are pretty good! We tried 3 of their ramens including the yuzu shio which was my favorite. It had a balanced flavor of yuzu that wasn't over the top, nor was it too subtle, and it played nicely to cut through the rich fatty pork belly. The other ramens were more of your standard fare that tasted more or less similar to what you'd find at other ramen places which isn't exactly a bad thing since you have to remember ramen is just one of the many things they serve. As for the other things they serve, the fish katsu curry while unique was a bit of a let down as the fish and curry were just OK and didn't pack a ton of flavor. We also tried the tuna tartar as an appetizer and found it to be pretty pleasant and would consider getting it again. All in all, a welcome addition to the evergrowing selection of Japanese centric restaurants opening in Sac and definitely a place worth keeping on your radar! read more

Chicken karaage should be chicken tempura. It had an unexpected taste and texture and we later realized they used tempura batter, instead of the key ingredient of potato starch. This place was both soul satisfying and heartbreaking at the same time. The food, ambiance, and service are all top notch. I had the bone ramen which was just out of this world delicious! The unctuousness was incredible. Hubby had the katsu curry udon which he also thoroughly enjoyed. We were well taken care of, prices were reasonable and portion sizes were generous. Sadly, we were the only diners in the place the whole time we were there. When chatting with our server, she mentioned that they are often very quiet. With Ramen, Currys, Katsu, and Izakaya the variety is inspiring. Their flavors and offerings are good. The Ramen broth is decently rich, Curries are a touch sweet for my taste with not enough heat, but their Katsu is crispy and well seasoned. The lady that helped seat us had a big smile as soon as we walked through the door, so we felt welcome immediately. We ordered the grilled squid to start off with, which they got done very fast. It was very chewy, just like how I like it, and had sauce to add to the flavor. I ended up dipping. The squid a lot because it's a very sweet sauce. By the time we finished, our entrees were out. The hamburger steak looked small at first glance but it's actually very proportionate to how much rice and sauce we were given due to how much flavor it had. It was super juicy as I cut it into little pieces and I pretty much only needed about half an inch of a piece to have a good bite. A full spoon of rice and curry helped balance out that small piece. The curry roux was a light sweet with lots of umami flavor to it. The potatoes were a bit harder than I expected, but I was already full from eating all the hamburger and rice so I didn't need them. The kakuni ramen was ordered because we wanted to try something new, and it did not disappoint. The broth was very rich and the pork belly was so tender, it practically fell into two as we tried to get it on the spoon. I ended up stealing my partner's broth throughout the meal because it was just too good. If you go here, order something you don't recognize. The flavors are amazing. read more

My first time trying yuzu ramen and I'm a fan! Yuzu flavor was prominent and refreshing, perfect for summer. It also helped cut the fattiness of the pork belly. * The tsukemen was great as well! First time customer! Wanted to try another spot that sells Japanese curry, and decided to come here yesterday. When we first came in, the staff greeted us immediately and we were seated. There wasn't much people during dinner time, just 2 groups. The staff were kind and friendly, always checking up on us and making sure we're satisfied! The place looked like a normal Japanese restaurant, kind of tiny, but it had a comfortable dining atmosphere. The food we ordered were: Chicken karaage: 10/10!! I personally think this is my favorite out of all the dishes we ordered. Although it doesn't look that golden fried, it had a light crunch, and the chicken was super moist and it tasted slightly melt-in-your mouth, which was weird but it's good! I'd get this again! It is super tasty, and normally I like crispy, crunchy chicken, but sometimes chicken doesn't need to taste like a rock and this tasted great. Beef filet skewer: 7/10- It tasted like a very sauced stick of beef, which is good! It was very slightly chewy, but it was perfectly cooked, tender juicy beef. I don't think I like the sauce, but that's my preference. It's okay though! Hambagu curry: 6/10. I would say that their curry isn't my preference, hence for the score. It's not bad! It had a strange flavor to me, it's hard to describe. It doesn't taste savory, but I get hints of bbq sauce and a touch of sweetness? Maybe apple? It's not my cup of tea, maybe for others who like tangy curries. The carrots and potatoes weren't soft soft. They tasted cooked, but not cooked enough to where the curry can be infused into the carrot and potatoes. Maybe they cook the curry sauce and add the carrot and potatoes separately after it's done? The hambagu steak tasted like slightly unseasoned meatloaf. I'm not sure how regular Hambagu is suppose to taste like as I've never tried it before, but it was okay. This dish overall was okay. Chicken Katsu curry: 7/10- Same reaction as the hambagu curry, but the Chicken Katsu was good! The curries taste the same. We decided to try this place after learning about it in the Sacbee. We tried the beef and pork belly yakitori, tonkatsu curry and chicken katsu curry udon. We came in early so it was empty but did fill in with some people later. The service was quick and efficient and place was clean. The yakitori came out first. I'd say all the flavors were there. We enjoyed the dishes. We also found the flavors for the both curry dishes very good; however, I could have used a bit of heat (spice) in mine (personally). Also, I found the dish could have had a little bit of a bigger portion as compared to some of the other places around town. That being said, I was okay with the portion size and the katsu wasn't greasy and was crispy. We will need to try them again to see if they make our rotation of Japanese spots to go. read more

A delicious ramen place with some amazing Japanese curry! I come here often because I work right across the street. They have a lot of varieties of ramen, my favorite is the spicy tonkatsu. I decided to order through their online website and I understand that they are a new restaurant but there are improvements needed. First off their website was easy to use, but they charge $1 convenience fee on top of tipping. I find this unnecessary and discourages people from ordering online. Second, the dishes we tried the portions were on the small side and underwhelming in favor. The Tonkasu ramen was basic and overpriced. The curry was okay, didn't really like the flavor of the curry. For the first time I am speechless...just kidding, but wow! I came here to enjoy an impromptu dinner with a friend. Right away I loved the clean wooden look of the restaurant and overall ambiance. The staff was really friendly and patient with us and the food didn't take long. We shared the Chicken Katsu and the Tan Tan Ramen. Tan Tan ramen: The broth was rich and flavorful. The egg was perfectly cooked with yellow yolks. The ground meat was tender and wonderfully matched with the ramen noodles. I loved everything about it and it was even big enough to enjoy the next day. Chicken Katsu: Out of the two this was my favorite. The curry sauce was unbelievable and like nothing I've ever tasted. It was creamy with a rich mixture of spices that left me wanting more. The chicken was perfectly cooked and still remained crispy even when coated in the curry sauce. We had reservations for Father's Day 2025 at 12:00 PM. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Kurry and house salad. The chicken Katsu was perfectly cooked to perfection. The chicken Katsu was cooked to a nice golden brown, crisp, and juicy. The house made curry is absolutely heavenly. I've had eaten many curries in my lifetime and this is the best I've eaten. The texture of the curry is perfect it was not runny or thick as you were able to collect the some rice, chicken Katsu, and curry on a spoon and eat it in one bite. The flavor was phenomenal and in my opinion, it's worthy of a Michelin recognized or Michelin Star. The salad was excellent too as it's a sesame flavor dressing. The dressing as well is perfectly balanced with unique flavors that I've never tasted before that makes it a rating of 10 out of 10 with no improvement need. In my opinion this can also be considered Michelin recognized or a Michelin Star. Another photo is provided on an entree that someone else ordered.
