We walked in on a Saturday night and the restaurant was half full with many big parties, and a single person running the entire front of house. The beef teriyaki was a singular piece of beef a bit thicker than a piece of bacon? Thinking they screwed up, I drove back and was explained by the nice hostess that this WAS the portion. First time for us. No expectations. They seated us with menus and some wonderful edamame that were soft and warm and perfect. Gratis. I remarked how much I liked them and she brought me another bowl, gratis. The tea was also good, also gratis. The poke salad was great. Large portion with seaweed, lettuce and avocado. Even the ginger was fresh and moist...the best I've had. My husband's salmon was top notch. Miso and salad above normal.... This is the only the second time I have had sushi. The Fuji has combo meals and you can order ala cart. I chose to order the miso soup and a dragon roll ala cart. The miso soup was very good not too salty and a nice amount of miso in there with a little added tofu to round it off. But the star of the show was the dragon roll. The unagi was soooo mild and the tempura was sweet and tender. Love the avocado touch. I will be back many times to Fuji. read more

I wanted to like this place. It is cute. Waitress/service was great. The food had a great presentation. My daughter's roll was inedible. Looked beautiful but tasted like a water logged pickle. It's my birthday and the place was highly recommended by a coworker. There were 3 tables with folks waiting for their food. One guy behind the bar and one waitress. Took her a few minutes to acknowledge that we were there. Then she couldn't figure out where to seat us. She figured she'd clean a dirty table rather than seat the four of us at a 4+2 top. We said that was fine. She walked away and the guy behind the bar cleared the table. And we waited. And waited. And waited. After nearly 10 minutes we walked out. Ridiculous. A hidden gem! This place doesn't get the attention it deserves, probably because of the location and some lack of signage. Celiac friendly menu items and attentive and friendly serving staff. I love this place food is consistently great! I ordered curbside tonight and they accidentally forgot to include sake. They called me but I was already home so they offered to deliver to me and brought an extra one too!! So nice and really above and beyond. I'm sorry to have to give this place such a bad review but quite honestly, the sushi my wife and I had tonight was a notch below that found in a grocery store kiosk. The Maguro was clearly of the packaged frozen variety found at an Asian market. The Sake (Salmon) was very clearly farm raised and flavorless. I would have given this place a single star had it not been for the presentation and service. For sushi however, you are far better off trying another place. It was almost impossible to be certain that the spicy tuna roll actually contained tuna :-( But we're glad we dropped in and gave it a try but I'm sorry to say that we will most likely not be back. Avoid at all costs. Server was sweet, nice, and tried to be as attentive as possible. Absolutely shocked that I didn't get sick from the food. Up there with my 5 worst sushi/sashimi experiences in my life, and probably the only 1 that is actually from a restaurant and not a market. I went here yesterday for lunch at around 1pm and it was moderately busy. I was seated within a few minutes by the friendly staff. Upon being seated with my menu, it took me a while to actually have my order taken. I got the delux Bento Box with veggie tempura, 2 chef's choice Nigiri sushi, and chicken teriyaki. I had about a 15 minute wait time for my food which was fine because I had my phone to entertain me, but I've had quicker service elsewhere. While I waited though, I was served a salad and miso soup, both of which were tasty. The server brought out a bowl of sticky rice, sauce to dip the tempura in, and a well presented Bento Box. The chicken teriyaki was tender and flavorful, the sauce sweet and tangy. The tempura was.....tempura. I feel like its hard to mess tempura up. The batter was crispy and pretty good. I must say, I wasn't disappointed with the sushi, but I wasn't raving about it. I've had better. The fish was decently fresh but I wasn't too excited about it. I would try it again, as you never know what you are going to get on a day to day basis with sushi. It's different every time. All in all, I had a pretty positive experience and I would go back and give the sushi a try again. read more

Fuji is my absolute fave Japanese restaurant in our area. The food is fantastic and the service is great. We enjoy eating in and take out too. I highly recommend the tempura. The tempura is crunchy and delicious, particularly when paired with their warm, flavorful dipping sauce. The miso and salads that come with entrees are wonderful too. The added bonus is that several of the servers there remember us and ask thoughtful, kind questions when we come in. read more

Their nigiri sushi is good, I also had a spicy tuna crunch roll that I didn't really like - the tempura pieces were kind of gross and usually I like tempura. On a whim, and a taste for sushi, I dropped into this local restaurant for a bite to eat. 5:30 was a perfect time to go, as it was not busy and I was able to get my eats promptly. Had the my fave "go to" nigiri, unagi and maguro. The warm unagi was delicious and not over powered in sauce. Tried the "Dark side of the Moon" roll and it too was wonderfully fresh and delicious. I have tried numerous sushi places from petaluma to santa rosa and more, and Fuji is by far the BEST, BEST, BEST place to go for amazing sushi!! The service is kinda slow best the waiters and sushi chef are always smiling and super nice. They also have really good and tight sushi rolls. I have tried most of their rolls and all of them are dealous. My favorite is the Crispy Hamachi which is simple buT SO TASTY. It includes hamachi and tempera flakes! I went to Fuji for the first and last time the other night. The food is okay; but not impressive by any standard. I ordered a dinner combo N.Y Steak and california roll, the steak was so thin and small and overcooked; I was very surprised because the price was $22.50. I can't imagine how they justify charging that amount for so little food! I did also order one of there specialty nigiri which was really good, much better than the other food but it was $7 for two pieces. My Favorite Sushi in Petaluma. The staff is wonderful, the fish is fresh!, and the food is great. The ambiance is very relaxing and laid back. The location is a bit odd, but it is a wonderful little place. You are always greeted right when you come in, if it by either of the servers (brother and sister team, ALWAYS so Friendly!) and the Sushi Chef. Water and tea is served as you are seated. As with any Sushi joint, you have your choice of about 4900 rolls, and all amazing... But the other food on the menu is also great tasting! The Tempura, not overly done at all. The Sashimi plates are HEFTY portions! Not wimpy thinly sliced pieces. The rolls are also generous in size. And they don't skimp on the bento boxes either. Reasonably priced, and for the taste, and service, all well worth it!! read more

This place is sort of out of the way as far as a restaurant goes. It's far from the downtown which means that it's not packed but it's a bit of a drive to get to so it's easy to forget about unless you happen to be close by. The decor and ambiance are nothing to write home about- but then again it is a sushi restaurant in a strip mall. It's pretty bare and there's very little decorations of any kind but it's clean and spacious for the size of the building. I've never seen it packed or even full, every time I go in there are plenty of empty tables. The staff is always really friendly and personable. My waitress last time (completely blanking on her name) was very sweet and since the restaurant was nearly empty we talked for a while. I liked that she took the time to get to know the customer base and really seemed to enjoy working there. The servers are young but know the menu pretty well, my questions get answered and I don't feel patronized or stupid to ask. You can't finish a glass of water before it's refilled. The sushi rolls are tasty and the fish we ordered seemed really fresh. They have a long list of rolls to choose from, mostly your basic sushi restaurant rolls with a few interesting ones. read more
