A classic breakfast spot in Portland. If you like the old school style and affordable costs with no frills, this is the spot. The stuff on the menu is very similar to any diner spot that sells breakfast if that tells you anything. The only downside is their coffee isn't all that very good. The service was great. The seating is a U shape where you sit on the outside and the server is in the inside. Very unique setup. I had their basic hash browns, sausage, eggs and toast combo. Toast comes buttered for you. No complaints on the food. It's a great classic dinner that is very much American. read more

Stopped by around 12:15-12:30 when there was a line out the door. Decided to come back in an hour and sat at the counter with no wait. Staff is the run of the mill, down to the earth type, expect a bit of a wait but it's mostly worth it. I was told to try the club sandwich, and I should have asked how big because it was about 3-4 meals' worth of sandwiches. It was unique with chicken salad in place of turkey, and a decent but not big amount of bacon. It comes with a side salad. I had a 4-star rating on this one, but popped back in to Yelp to downgrade to 3-star. Too much inconsistentcy. This is the kind of neighborhood place you want to live, but can't always. Sometimes the servers can be a bit surley. When the burger is good, it's great! But not always up to their best - and they forgot the pickles once and asking for them wasn't very comfortable. I even suggested that if they're out of them it's no problem, but they brought me some. Skip the fries, which are from frozen. And Fuller's, if any way possible, can you please switch to pitchers for creamer? I live in the hood and was recommending this place to all my neighbors, but I stopped. I think I would be embarrassed if my neighbors went on my recommendation and it was an off day for the staff. read more

Finally got a chance to try this place! Service was excellent, food was yummy and the outside seating was perfect! Small space inside, counter seating only, good for small parties and when weather permits the outside seating is good for parties of 4. Service was great, quick! Food was tasty, we got an omelette and the Georgia potatoes. We were kinda thrown off that the Georgia potatoes was more a plates of veggies on a small stack of hash-browns but maybe we were expecting more potatoes and eggs? I had a long stay in Portland and decided to find some coffee. I walked by Fuller's and decided to check it out. Very unassuming place. There's a notepad when you walk in where you list yourself on the waitlist. Waited roughly 15 minutes. Once sat, you're almost forced to engage with your neighbors which is actually kind of nice. I chatted with the couple beside me. Food was good as was the coffee. Good prices especially for the area. Service was fine-- Wasn't bad but wasn't great which is why the 4 stars rather than the 5. The place is super cute, old fashioned coffee shop that's only opened for breakfast and lunch. The food was delicious! Fuller's is definitely the retro coffee shop experience, and a great place to grab an old-style American breakfast. I took my nearly 90 year-old dad there, because he doesn't understand things like avocado toast. Everything we had was really well done; my dad had an omelette with hashbrowns and I had a half order of French toast with a single scrambled egg as a side. Our breakfast was so robust we didn't even end up eating lunch that day - we went straight through to dinner. Service was excellent, despite the fact that they were shortstaffed that day. I felt kind of bad for the fellow handling the front of the house because he was being run off his feet. It resulted in a few short delays but nothing that would prevent me from happily returning in the future. read more

The food was delicious! We went for breakfast twice and had to come in for the sandwich week French dip special, the sandwich was so good. The diner is such a fun atmosphere, the servers hustle to take orders but also take time to talk and because everyone is so close the conversation can be so fun, I met people from all over, one guy had been riding trains from California to Portland Maine then on to Portland Oregon. The only drawback is if you use a mobility chair, as I do, you can only dine here when it's warm enough to eat at the outside tables, as the diner itself is not accessible. This place has been a hit or miss place for me. Today, I ended up waiting about 40 minutes to get in. I ended up ordering an omelet, which comes with a side of hash and my choice of toast. I chose rye, but they said they didn't have any rye left, just white. I opted to substitute my toast for a biscuit (added cost). The biscuit was super dry and was not good. I work a block away from from Fuller's and after a long night shift the last thing I need is to worry about fuss when it comes to breakfast. Fuller's is my go to for a classic American diner breakfast. The food is simple but so so good. The hash browns are crispy on the outside but not too crunchy. The service is always great, the staff is attentive even when I can see them in the weeds. Can't believe it's taken a decade to make it into Fullers. A true old school Portland institution, with classic red vinyl and chrome swivel bar stools, diner coffee in mugs whose design hasn't changed since the 1920's, I would guess. My server was sweet as could be and awfully efficient. I ordered the straight up Huevos rancheros. No surprises, and my poached eggs were cooked perfectly. In a strange way, the only inauthentic aspect to Fullers is how dang clean it is, which makes it both original yet timeless. When these sorts of restaurants appeared on the American scene, they were equally clean and well-tended. But over the decades, lack of maintenance often gave a sort of worn-down patina to the American diner, which I confess is part of their attraction to me, but probably a turn-off to many others. How can you begrudge a place that maintains its heritage in the same pristine condition as opening day? You can't. Indeed, next to the large, neon-framed circle clock is a flat screen television with a picture of Edward Hopper's famous Phillies diner painting. And that's the point. Jerry Mahoney is credited with opening the first stationary diner in 1913. It touched a deep nerve in the public. Within decades, diners achieved archetypal meaning, becoming a public hearth where people from all walks of life would congregate. I suspect this is because these early diners favored long wrap around counters over private tables. This made it more efficient for a single server to care for a great many customers, while becoming a front porch where people could readily chat with neighbors, read the paper, or get lost in their own thoughts. Their affordability also erased or minimized class differences. These were incredibly democratic institutions. Some of this would change as diners migrated to the suburbs and table seating would come to predominate. But their no-nonsense approach to mealtime, and the standardization of a basic American cuisine shaped the country and presented an idealized version of America's best values of being a country for all. Fullers owns all of these values. I chatted with neighbors, enjoyed an inexpensive meal (by today's inflationary standards anyway), all while sipping on an endless stream of Boyd's coffee. So long as places like this continue to exist, there is still hope for an America that seems to have lost its way. read more

Super cute classic diner with simple good food and amazing people. We came in on a Friday morning for brunch and were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant is set up such that everyone is facing inward toward where servers can walk around, so it feels very communal. The menu is pretty simple, I ordered a Denver omelette which comes with toast and hash browns. The omelette was really good, fluffy eggs, and a good amount of toppings. Hash browns were perfectly crispy too. The service was what really set the vibe of this place though. It just feels so homey and everyone is so nice. One of my friends said it was my birthday and the manager gave me a birthday hat and stopped everyone in the restaurant and they sang happy birthday to me. It was so touching. Fuller's just fell off my list of favorite breakfast places. Both the food and the service have changed. It is a counter and stool type of diner, with about 30 stools. I am used to seeing the joint jumping, with several servers bustling around keeping the whole thing going at high speed. Today, there was one guy. He wasn't lazy, but he was not bustling. My coffee cup was never refilled. There weren't many people in there when I sat down at 7:30 AM, there were more folks in there when I left, but a coffee refill was never on offer. My go-to breakfast is the chicken fried steak with eggs. I was surprised to see that the gravy was covered with a heavy application of orange powder which was probably mostly seasoned salt, and perhaps some paprika. I am not salt-phobic by any means, but the dish was way too salty. Too bad. I used to like coming here. read more

On entry, I was immediately awed by the quaint appearance of the diner. It definitely reminded me the older diners I've patroned. Staff was not very friendly when I walked in. The woman's facial expression was very unwelcoming and instead of approaching when she couldn't hear me, she continued to yell, "what?!" I ordered the egg with cheddar cheese, hash browns and toast and added a pancake. I requested for the hash browns to be scattered, wheat toast and strawberry jam. The received white toast that was partially burned, without any jam, my hash browns weren't scattered and were just only really cooked on one side and the eggs were scrambled too hard and the cheese wasn't scrambled into eggs. Pancakes tasted like a 6 year old made them when their parents weren't looking. Hash browns, eggs, bacon were good....bard to mess those up. Taco omelette was messy, salsa too watery as it should have been drained. Bottom line is if you're in a pinch, and Dennys isn't close this is fine.
