    Club Sandwich
    Alex J.

Stopped by around 12:15-12:30 when there was a line out the door. Decided to come back in an hour and sat at the counter with no wait. Staff is the run of the mill, down to the earth type, expect a bit of a wait but it's mostly worth it. I was told to try the club sandwich, and I should have asked how big because it was about 3-4 meals' worth of sandwiches. It was unique with chicken salad in place of turkey, and a decent but not big amount of bacon. It comes with a side salad. I'd say it's likely a bigger breakfast spot but it was a nice casual counter-style lunch.

The best diner experience (period). Be Portland if you go; that's: friendly, accepting, patient, polite and original.... They have been in business since 1947 seen everything including a fire! You won't be impressing anyone. And, still they are delivering: great breakfast, great service and cozy get to know you counter experience!

I had a 4-star rating on this one, but popped back in to Yelp to downgrade to 3-star. Too much inconsistentcy. This is the kind of neighborhood place you want to live, but can't always. Sometimes the servers can be a bit surley. When the burger is good, it's great! But not always up to their best - and they forgot the pickles once and asking for them wasn't very comfortable. I even suggested that if they're out of them it's no problem, but they brought me some. Skip the fries, which are from frozen. And Fuller's, if any way possible, can you please switch to pitchers for creamer? I live in the hood and was recommending this place to all my neighbors, but I stopped. I think I would be embarrassed if my neighbors went on my recommendation and it was an off day for the staff.

Finally got a chance to try this place! Service was excellent, food was yummy and the outside seating was perfect! Small space inside, counter seating only, good for small parties and when weather permits the outside seating is good for parties of 4. Service was great, quick! Food was tasty, we got an omelette and the Georgia potatoes. We were kinda thrown off that the Georgia potatoes was more a plates of veggies on a small stack of hash-browns but maybe we were expecting more potatoes and eggs? It was still good just not at all what we had imagined, so if you are thinking lots of carbs, this ain't it! Pricing is great too!

One of my favorite breakfast place to go to while visiting Portland. The Monte Cristo is my guilty pleasure. The service is great always very friendly, just come on in and have a seat where it's available and enjoy some breakfast and drinks. Nice little diner seems old school and I love it you can see the cooks doing their magic.

Walked in the door and greeted with a "Hi friend! How are you this morning?! Welcome and take a seat anywhere you'd like!" The place is super cute, old fashioned coffee shop that's only opened for breakfast and lunch. The food was delicious! Crispy hash browns and fluffy scrambled eggs are perfectly paired with a slice of homemade bread toasted and buttered for you! There's something about a cup of coffee served in a brown lil mug that makes it taste oh so good! Will definitely be back next tom I'm in Portland.

If you like old school dinners this is a must go to spot . The people are so friendly and give great customer service! We always stop here when we're in Portland. My bf always gets the Monte Cristo and I do the breakfast special.. the Sando was good as always but the pancake in my breakfast special was not as good as the year prior not sure if they changed recipe or if the cooks cooking was off.. either way you should definitely have breakfast here.

This is one of my go-to places for some simple diner style food. The atmosphere is classic and the prices are reasonable. I came this time to try their special $5 hamburger (I added cheese to it) and a taco salad. The food is simple but good. The service was good, even when it was busy with mainly one person trying to help out everyone.

this meal was pure energy. as far as taste goes id say it was pretty bland, not the best. portions felt small too but the prices arent bad at all.

The food was delicious! We went for breakfast twice and had to come in for the sandwich week French dip special, the sandwich was so good. The diner is such a fun atmosphere, the servers hustle to take orders but also take time to talk and because everyone is so close the conversation can be so fun, I met people from all over, one guy had been riding trains from California to Portland Maine then on to Portland Oregon. It was just so nice to have a room full of nice people chatting and sharing experiences. The server, Amy was the best host. Talking with everyone and making them feel good about mor

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

We decided on outdoor patio seating since the weather was nice & it was generally quieter outside. We were people watching for a bit and noticed that our fellow restaurant goers were waiting for quite a bit, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was fine. When our waiter eventually tended to us, he was incredibly friendly & apologetic, owning up to the delay being on him, but we were cool with it -poor guy was working a double shift. We started off with deep-fried okra, I ordered the fried chicken meal, & hubby ordered the burger. I got to pick the chicken pieces I wanted, so I went with 2 thighs, thinking they'd be smaller pieces, so I could maybe finish my meal. I opted for collard greens as well. The food came relatively quickly and was super-fresh. The fried okra bits were piping hot down to the last bite. They went well with the spicy aioli. We hung onto the aioli so hubby could dip his fries. My meal was so good. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. The batter was just perfect and crisp. Mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. Gravy was rich and well-seasoned. Collard greens were so tasty. The balance of textures was just perfection. I ended up having to pack up a piece of chicken because it was so much food, but I enjoyed every bite I was able to take of my meal. I appreciated their welcoming vibe & the beautiful pride balloon arch inside the restaurant. I appreciated the friendly service. I appreciated the thoughtfully and expertly made food. This was my first time having catfish. I also am not a fan of grits, but knew that it would be to good to pass up and not give it a try. Everything on the catfish platter was splendid. I adored the biscuit and raspberry jam, might've been the best I have had! The raspberry jam was so good I asked for extra (because seriously, what was I going to do with that little bit provided lol) they end up bringing two more hehe. The biscuit was super soft, buttery and light (also coming from someone that couldn't care less about a biscuit). I also appreciate a biscuit that is NOT flaky! Hold your hate comments lmao! I had this amazing food before going to a wine tasting and let me just say this was the perfect choice before an event as such afterwards. Honorable mention, the chicken and waffles waffle is made with sweet potato. YEAH? It is as good as it sounds!! I think the videos on TikTok on this place, did not do it justice at all. This restaurant is on the 30th floor of a high rise in downtown SW Portland. We made reservations for 7:30pm and arrived a little early. We requested a perimeter window table to experience the amazing Portland and beyond views from nearly 2/3rds of the top floor. Dining at a perimeter table is a must. Just tell the hostess' and they will put you on a list, and head to the bar. The bar and restaurant were very busy, but the vibe was upbeat and energetic, not chaotic. The hostess that greeted us was friendly and welcoming. A singer was providing entertainment in the bar. Mitch was our mixologist. He was friendly and knowledgeable (and very busy) and took the time to answer a few questions we had about cocktail choices. We enjoyed our well made cocktails while waiting for our table. If I was alone, this might be a go to restaurant for sitting and dining at the bar. After about 45 minutes in the bar, we were guided to their packed dining room and our window seat. An amazingly full dining room for a restaurant on a Tuesday night. Marco was our server. He was professional and super friendly. We ordered a bottle of local Argyle sparkling wine, and asked Marco to pace our meal, as we curated a custom 3-course meal by splitting 4 cold and hot appetizers into 2 courses, knowing we were destined to have dessert as well. Marco worked with a busy kitchen to make it happen. It was executed flawlessly, again with a completely full restaurant. First they brought us complimentary warm bread and butter. The bread was amazing. All 4 dishes that we ordered were delicious. We ordered the hamachi crudo, the spicy yellowtail sushi roll, the grilled and chilled jumbo shrimp, and the kung pao calamari. The crudo and the shrimp were served in a bowl set on dry ice, so the frozen vapors spilling out from each dish was very dramatic and cool. A very nice touch! We split a carrot cake with ice cream (5/5) for dessert. It was a chef'd up presentation which was both stunning and delicious. City Grill is my new favorite restaurant in Portland. The food, service, energy, ambiance, value, and views are unmatched by any restaurant in Portland that we have ate at over the years. Treat yourself and take people you love to this great restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

While they weren't as crispy as I would've wanted - I would say while some parts were, most of it was on the softer side - I did think that they were seasoned excellently. They also paired quite well with the mayo-based sauces we received. Moving onto the burger, I really enjoyed this. When I've had tofu on a burger in the past - it's usually been in smaller pieces - so getting such a massive piece that sticks out on either end of the burger was really nice. In addition, the breading was good - while not super-present. I quite liked the fact that it was very lightly breaded - meaning the huge patty was like 95% tofu - leaving the tofu to stand on its own as the majority of the bite. The buns were alright - I'm not big into vegan buns - but I didn't mind these The mustard sauce was also pretty good I will say, although I did order the Mr. Onion burger so I should've known what I was getting myself into, but there were just way too many onions on this burger. It was to the point where they absolutely dominated the taste of my first bite. I had to remove a lot of them from the bottom of the burger to actually make this edible. For the price, it is a bit expensive - but it's also quite filling so I didn't mind it. I also have to mention - because my burger was late, as a gift they brought out a full set of pastries/cookies in a box. This was incredibly surprising and something I've never seen another restaurant do. Major props for that
