Came to Funk Bros. Auto looking to get my brake light fixed and was told that they were unable to fix it & I would have to go directly to the dealer itself to have it fixed. The next day, I went across the street to Discount Tire & Service Center and they fixed my issue in all of 10 minutes. I also didn't think the staff at Funk Bros. was particularly nice, either. Quite standoffish and cold to new customers, but very different disposition when interacting with customers they know (I observed this first-hand). I suppose that's natural, but it made me feel weird that I was being treated with such blatant disregard whilst other customers were being treated with far more care, general pleasantness and patience. My roommate swears by this place, but I wanted to come on here and speak to my experience. I was also charged more than double the rate to fix my brake light here, than I was at Discount Tire and Service Center across the street. Save your time and money! Beware, especially if you're a woman. I was told my car needed almost $4000 worth of work and was unsafe to drive because of the struts and suspension. I took my car to two other mechanics and was told my suspension is fine and to just get my back brakes done when I can, but the car is still safe to drive. They also said I was being way overcharged. I did spend $900 to replace cracked radiator and they tried to charge me separately for the hoses when everyone said they should have been included with the radiator and now it'll have to be flushed again since he didn't just replace them with it. I came in last week to get my my front wheel bearings and hub replaced (both left & right) The staff is great. Hovig responded to my Yelp messages right away. I'm assuming he's the owner of the place. Armen was easy to talk to. They confirmed that it was indeed the wheel bearings and hub that needed replaced. The value not so great. I understand they told me upfront that each wheel would cost $900. Their location was close to my home. There was one closer to me but their mechanic was not available that same day. After further research, the cost of the parts are about the same. I was charged $1,103. They added new seals that cost an extra $134. Some locations estimated cost for parts is $900 for both wheels. The labor is an outstanding $810. Other shops' labor cost is $400-$500. I took my car in first thing in the morning after 8am and I picked it up after 5pm. Other auto shops say it takes 4-5 hours. The reason why it took so long was that they were waiting for parts from the press shop. I should have waited the next day to get estimates from other auto shops. I should have taken it to my dealership at Toyota North Hollywood or the tire shop around the corner. I learned from my mistake. Overall, the auto shop fixed the issue. They should have checked my rear wheel bearings while my car was there. If you have money, come here to get your car fix. After all, it's in Studio City. I'll go elsewhere for my rear wheel bearings replacement. read more

I came in here the other day to check a Cylinder 4 Misfire, which was the code popping up on my car computer sensor. They told me that it was a sticky valve that would cost $3,500 - $4K to fix. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and take it home. My cousin walked me through how to check the ignition coils over the phone. I replaced one of the coils with a new one I got from Autozone for $100, and problem solved. I've driven about 75 miles since then, and no problems at all. They said they tried to change the ignition coils from #4 to #3, and their computer code did not follow a Cylinder 3 misfire. This is how they ruled out that it was a bad ignition coil. But my $20 FIXD computer sensor read that code changed from 4 when I dropped the car off to 3 when I picked the car up. I changed it again to 1 and 2, and the computer code changed accordingly. Either these guys flat-out lied to me, or they need a new computer scanner. All they had to do was turn the car on and drive it to recreate the issue. The car struggled to start, and the engine rhythm was jerky and inconsistent. Don't trust these guys for a second!!! read more

I've gone to Funk Brothers since I moved to the area and needed a mechanic close by. Initially for an oil change but I've come to rely on them for any issues that I have with my car. Oil changes are easy, but when my car was experiencing some rough handling I took it in to get looked at and they called back to tell me what the problem was-basically I had no brakes at all, it was costly but needed. The price was steep but they not only honored the 10% Yelp discount but tried to cut the price where they could. They also recommended a couple of other repairs as well but I told them I would want to hold off on them if I could since the most pressing repairs were done (and paid for.) There was no pressure to get anything else done, and I really do feel like their approach is more consultative. They outline what they see but leave the decision up to you to make, it never feels like they talk down or give you the runaround. I eventually got all the repairs done and my last visit for an oil change there were no unexpected repairs or things that need to be done, just a clean bill of health. As long as I live in the area Funk Brothers are going to be my go to for my car needs. read more

These guys are LEGIT awesome. My Nissan Versa, yeah, it's nothing flashy but it's been a dependable car. I have never had an issue, until at long last (10 years later ) the Versa got tired. Brake pads, spark plugs ... you name it and it was on the list. Much of which I don't personally understand. HERE is where Hovig and Armin make all the difference. You can Trust them. DO NOT GO HERE. COMPLETE RIP OFF. I came here because I suspected that my water pump needed to be replaced. They told me they would do a complete inspection of my car and get back to me. They came back with half a dozen issues in addition to the water pump. My husband was skeptical as we keep our car in good condition and so we decided to just replace the water pump. I gave this shop the OK to proceed with fixing the water pump. In the meantime, I called around and got quotes 40% less than what these guys said they would charge me. Within an hour of giving them the OK to proceed with the repair, I called them and asked if they had started the work because I changed my mind and wanted my car back. They said they had completely disassembled my car and would have to charge me $700 for labor to reassemble it without a fix. I told them to move forward with the repair as I clearly had no choice. Ten minutes later they called me and told me they accidentally charged me twice for a few items and would be offering an $80 discount. I then went to get my car and they took off an additional $130 without an explanation. I can't help but think it was because they knew they were overcharging me to begin with and didn't want me to post this negative review. Despite these "discounts," their price was still much higher than anywhere else. I will never be back and I will warn friends/family to never go to this place. read more

Despite relocating out of the area I still make the trip to funk bros whenever I have car issues. They clearly communicate pricing, offer estimates upfront before repairs and have a quick turnaround time. They periodically check in on you after repairs and when maintenance is due. From replacing my mirror after getting sideswiped, fixing my shattered window and gouged out keyless entry and sussing out parasitic drain on the battery after the break in and most recently getting my car to pass a smog after running "too lean", I've always been able to afford the repairs and never felt taken advantage of due to lack of knowledge and understanding. Car problems can be a major source of stress and financial strain but I always end up paying less than I expected. Highly recommend. read more

They took in my car, diagnosed the issue with clear explanations, and provided recommendations. Although the recommendations weren't financially friendly (lol), they did the basic maintenance I requested and told me to wait things out since the recommendations weren't time sensitive. The total cost was far less than what I expected with the amount of work they did to my car/ I was happy about that! My very first car in the USA (even better, in L.A.!), three previous owners (the last of which, a friend of mine), almost at its 100.000miles mark. Been going to Funk Bros since they were at the La Brea location in Hollywood. Hovig and his shop team always took care of my vehicles needs both my 1963 Ford Falcon and 2010 Ford Ranger. Anytime something needed to be fixed they would take the time to explain the services I needed without any upselling pressure, they would show me the issues that needed to be resolved while the truck was lifted to explain what was happening. There was a time where my tire pressure filter was loose after they placed a new tire, when informing them of this issue they told me to bring it back and they fixed it with no additional charge. When life gets super busy and you forget about car maintenance times. I would get a reminder message about services due and if I wanted to come in or schedule an appointment. I don't know any shops that even do that. Sadly I moved 1 hr away from LA but even then im tempted to make the drive or even if I'm ever back in the area to take my car to funk brothers for services. read more

Gas is too high and it's too damn hot! Extremely poor customer service. Was given a quote of $400 by someone via Yelp. Got there in person only to be quoted $1100?! For an a/c repair. Let me add my opinion to those other 5 star reviews. I was visiting CA from the East Coast and the cruise control stopped working on my 1999 Chevy Tahoe. I thought to myself "Good luck getting that fixed". Called a few highly rated shops and they didn't even care to look at it. Called Funk Brothers. "Bring it right down. We will have a look at it" Upon arrival the gentleman at. the counter said let me take a look. We walked out to the Tahoe and he immediately spotted that a connection had come loose. 10 minutes later I'm on my way. That's the kind of thing that happens when you have a team of experienced mechanics. During my short stay there I was treated with the utmost respect. To drop what you are doing to help someone who's not even a regular customer is the hallmark of great customer service. I'm out in LA 2-3 times a year visiting my relative.
