Great singers. Great covers of music from the 1960s,70s, 80's, even a bit of the 90's. But again, it's dark and its divey. Just grab a beer and chill for a while. The Funky 544 use to be the place in NOLA that I would only want to go to. Wasn't crazy about the drinks but the live bands were always on point at night no matter what day. However this recent trip we noticed that they remodeled the place which is cool but that energetic atmosphere changed. The bartender/ waitress said the club got new owners. The upgrades were nice but the vibe is no longer there. I really hate that they changed it. read more

We had a wonderful time at this club. We happen to stumble upon it as we were walking down the street checking out all the things to be seen in New Orleans! We stopped in here for probably about two hours and we were thoroughly entertained by the All-Star band! And their name is very benefiting because those young folks performed their behinds off! That was the best time I've had in a long time! They played everything from Chaka Khan to Whitney Houston to the Jackson 5 to the gap band to Maxwell to Jill Scott to Erykah Badu to NEO. This place was a vibe! Out of all of the hustle and bustle on Bourbon Street, we stumbled upon this place. They were playing R&B and had a live band! I hate that I forgot the name of the band but they were fabulous. It was a Wednesday night and they put on a show! We sang and danced for hours! We were enticed to walk in since there was no cover and the music coming from inside sounded good. A band was playing covers, and the woman and man were taking turns singing. They were really talented! And they had a lot of energy, all the while telling us that they'd be on stage playing music until 2AM. Granted it was probably around 7PM when we walked in. More people came in as we stood listening. Lots of people liked the range of songs they sang, popular current songs and even some older songs from the 80s and 90s. Impressive range! The band playing that night was so good we stopped in for what we thought would be a few minutes as we strolled Burbon Street. We ended up staying most of the night. The vocalists and musicians gave a great performance. The lead was entertaining and so engaging with the audience. I'm not a drinker so the bartender didn't charge me for the Coca Cola I ordered. Another live entertainment venue , which most of them seem to be. This is one of the better ones for live music as well music in general when there is no live band. Decent open space , good for dancing , drinks are not bad tend to stick with beer since easier. One of the better places on the strip for listening to music & dancing. read more

Was charged a cover charge to get on the balcony for New Years Eve, $5 per person and there was a total of 14 people with my group. Few minutes after entering, a manager approached me and asked why I gave the bouncer $5, informed her that it was a cover charge and that we all paid. Manager then told me that the cover charge hasn't started yet and would get our money back. Apparently the bouncer had given the money away, the manager came back and apologized for the situation and comped us our first round of drinks. CJ on the Balcony Bar was awesome! She kept the drinks coming while jamming out to the songs playing. Definitely do recommend coming here for all events! read more

Loved the vibes here! My friend and I stopped by on a Tuesday night around midnight and it was still hopping, where most of the bars and clubs were already pretty dead. There was a live band doing top 40 and hip hop covers. Around 12:30 they started packing up, and the whole place became an actual club with all the popular club hits blaring out of the speakers. We really enjoyed this place and would recommend it to anyone looking to dance and have a good time on Bourbon Street! read more

Damn looks like a lot of people don't like this place! Too bad, because both times I was here I had a GREAT time! Then again I'm very easy to please. Here are my key elements to a good night: 1. Strong drinks 2. Good music 3. Strong drinks Have the syringe shot in red (not the tube shots), they're called "jello shots" because they make you feel like jello after you've had one. SUPER STRONG. My bartender wingwoman, said it was 98% rum and 2% grenadine. They're large and in charge, worth the $4, and even better when drunk barbarians buy them for you. The only reason I'm taking away 1 star is because the a lot of the shot girls look a hot mess and I like buying my drinks from people that don't look like they spit in it. Aside from that, this place feels very Cancun - heat, shots but no Mexicans. I liked this way more than Razoo across the street. read more

The good: Good music. The restrooms were clean and private, even on New Year's. The bad: $10 minimum on cards was not clearly advertised, especially since the bartender came up to us so that we couldn't have seen the sign behind the bar. Charging $3.25 for water and not allowing people to have tap water is not just bad business; it's unhealthy and stingy. Didn't have that experience at any other downtown bar. read more

This was my first stop for the night life. I am so glad I stepped into this club. The band (all male band) were fantastic. These guys played r&b, old school and just about everything. What I enjoyed at Funky 544 were people of all ages and walks of life, having a good old time. Everyone was dancing and grooving to the music. What I really appreciated was everyone coming together without any non-sense, respectful to each other. You could dance with your friends, a partner, alone and even if you can't dance or too drunk to but tried no one at Funky 544 judged. It was all just good fun! There is no cover fee, drinks are reasonable (pay cash). You must be 21+ to enter. After the band there is a live Dj playing and everyone on the dance floor once again. Note: Cash is king when hitting up Bourbon Street clubs/bars. Shot girls are at each/every bar/club, its done all throughout Bourbon street. Bar hop and see for yourself. read more

We were walking Bourbon St. during the French Quarter Festival and the music drew us to this bar. There weren't many people inside, but the ones there were really enjoying the music. The singers were good and kept people involved during their sets. My friend was enjoying it so much that we lingered longer than I thought we should. Fun place to dance. Big ol' PBR's. Hated the fact that they had one of those dudes in the bathroom beggin' for tips...this is a dive bar to beat all dive bars...you don't need that dude in there hustlin' for tips because he pointed at the one stall or the one urinal...thanks, I can find those. There are a lot of bars on Bourbon St. that can give you the same things you can get here: live music, cheap drinks, aggressive shot girls, grimy everything. While I do love at least 50% of those things, I'm not a fan of this bar in particular. I'm pretty sure they can't be blamed for the fact that my wife's wallet was stolen out of her purse that was hanging on her shoulder (but that did happen inside their doors). However, they can be blamed that they wouldn't give a visibly overserved girl water, instead demanding she buy a bottle of it. Another spot on Bourbon I am close to being too old to go to but it is still fun for now. Place was quite full on a random Wednesday night. No band this evening just a DJ and a hype man to keep the party moving and they did a great job entertaining the crowd. Only 1 bartender working so she was overwhelmed but still did a good job of taking orders and making drinks as fast as possible. Lots of girls running around selling shots and jello needles but none of them were pushy or attempting to force anything on you. Stopped here plenty of times up and down the quarters. The music and band was on point! R&B hits when music was good! I don't think this is the spot for the babies thinking they are grown, this is a true grown folks' spot. At least when I was there which was Friday and Saturday nights. If you stand by the back door, man the cold air is a welcome relief in that NOLA heat, even at night time. It was just perfect and crowded but you could still move around and dance. There was a midget (no shade) in there trying to force shots on people. I'm not even tall but I'm definitely not getting that low trying to get a shot from her but it was funny as hell watching some of the other drunkards try. read more

We stumbled into this place while cruising Bourbon street. We didn't intend to stop, but was we were walking by, the sounds of a live funk bad playing a jamming cover got our attention. We were really there for the band, and not much else. The beers were cheap enough, I guess. There were girls running around trying to get people to buy jello shots...not typically my scene. Boy those New Oleanders (is that spelled right) really know how to show you a good time. In town for a Falcons Saints game and the sales clerk at Chico's told me to go here. Thank GOD for her. I'm not really one for touristy drinks so I didn't have hand grenades or hurricanes, I stuck with Grey Goose and Red Bulls and they knew how to pour that up right. Yes, they were $13 each, but its a bar on Bourbon Street, if I wasn't prepared to over-pay for things, then I woulda just stayed home. The crowd was hype, and so was the band. The shot girls will perform some take it down the throat actions for you. Not my type of thing, but if you like it....I love it!!! Great photo opps for me! No admission, but again I was in town for the Falcons-Saints game, so there may be at some other times I would fa sure go there again if I was ever in New Orleans. read more
