I have to admit, I don't hang much on Bourbon Street when in New Orleans; but this is 1 of 2 divey hole in he walls I stop in because they always have such damn good LIVE music. Great musicians. Great singers. Great covers of music from the 1960s,70s, 80's, even a bit of the 90's. But again, it's dark and its divey. Just grab a beer and chill for a while. My friends and I were bar hopping on Bourbon Street and stopped into Fat Catz Music Club -- so glad we did! There was a live band playing, and they were fantastic. The atmosphere was energetic and fun, with great music, good vibes, and a lively crowd. Definitely worth popping in for a drink or two if you're out on Bourbon! Wasn't planning on going here, but the security guard for the spot blocked our path as we were walking on burbon and directed us in. We noticed that he was doing that or dragging people in (jokingly and with good vibes). I appreciate the hustle for doing his job to pack the place. I wouldn't be back though. I got one vodka cran and one water bottle, and it came to over $20. I did choose tito's vodka when asked what vodka to get. On the bill, I was charged for the mixer and $10 for the shot of titos used. The drink was way weaker than competing bars nearby. There was some fun music that involved funky/bluesy covers of crowd favorites. The band was solid and were fun to watch. They sent someone around with a tip bucket about 3 songs into our stay and the crowd thinned significantly (we did choose to tip). Then the security guard got to work filling it back up again. At that point, we decided to dip. Definitely a weird dynamic. Also, the seating was very minimal and the little cocktail tables were wobbly. Overall, I feel like you have a better shot at having value for money and have a good time at one of the many other Burbon St. bar options. It wasn't terrible, but likely won't be back. read more

There was a lady security guard/ bouncer who was running all into crowds doing the unnecessary. When she did this keep in mind she's not small nor petite she bumped into someone and accused him of touching her bottom. Hello lady it's stupid pack of people for Mardi Gras who are dancing and like dancing at that and you come in hot. This was a she said situation and unfortunately discrimination. Absolute worst treatment I have received in New Orleans. The bar tender was extremely rude...when I tried to mitigate the issue she said "the problem is I don't work for free, what are you stupid"...I was still confused and she just had a funky attitude totally uncalled for talking about "yall didn't tip me" and really put her hands up in my face like get out of my face...I was left so confused and disgusted with the service because we just had questions about the bill and she was totally unwilling to even discuss it with us but instead brushed us off and never resolved the issue. read more

This security guard grabbed my friend by the wrist and despite her telling "no, I don't want to go in there" over and over, he continued to drag her into the bar. It took me and one other friend to pry her arm out of his grip, and when we did he got in my face. I understand it's their job to lure people into the venue, but this is NOT the way to do it. No means no, and it's men like this that ruin the experience for everyone. If I could give 0 stars, I would. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

The ambiance is alright. The live music is nice but it's a little too loud to sit, have drinks and attempt to talk to anyone. The drinks are more expensive than the surrounding bars but they didn't seem to mind ppl bringing in their own drinks from other bars so that was nice. This was probably my favorite night club we visited. No cover charge too. The band was so talented and played some awesome classic rock hits ranging from AC/DC to Billy Idol to Bon Jovi. My husband and I were totally in our element here! Mix of all ages too. The bartenders are also really nice and efficient. It was packed when we visited and I didn't have to wait longer than like 3 minutes for a drink. PLUS the drinks are GOOD! Not watered down like other bars in the area. You def get your monies worth. The bathrooms also have attendants which is a nice perk. If I am ever in NOLA again I will totally make sure I stop by Fat Catz! read more

One of the many places to check out while walking around, they have no cover charge which is good. It is one of the better size places, they usually have live entertainment, lively crowd , usually stick to beer since it's easier , service is not bad. good music playing, enough room to dance this is one of the better places for dancing. read more

One of the bouncers/doorman physically grabbed my wife off Bourbon Street and pulled her inside while simultaneously with another bouncer blocking me from following. It was completely outrageous. Worse, we went back and asked to see the owner and after talking to him about what happened, he didn't care. We have asked them to preserve the video for legal purposes so we will see if they do that. read more

Nope nopity nope. The drinks themselves are not terrible (we split a hurricane) but the staff are rude and they like to tack on unnecessary charges. My friend was charged for using a credit card and I was told that water is not free, but rather $3.25 for a bottle. Absurdly, the bartender claimed that the water in the Quarter is not drinkable. Riiiight. Seems she thought I was from out of town and wouldn't know better. Guess it served us right for partying in a tourist joint. read more

The bartender literally waved me over by her fingers, because she was too lazy to walk over to where I was sitting to take my drink order. I love dive bars, but I've never seen this level of shitty customer service. Would NEVER come Back. This place gives NOLA a bad name. Fat Catz was a vibe! We stopped by during the middle of the day. We heard some music from the street while walking by and decided to drop in. I'm glad we did. The day we went they had a band playing and they were killing it. The lead singers name was Joe but I don't remember the band name. They were playing old school songs and jamming out. Everyone in there was rocking and singing. They certainly moved the crowd. We sat until it was time to go to our activity. We sat for about 45 min - 1 hr. I was just at this venue with my 21 and 23 year old kids and the bouncer, out of nowhere dragged my youngest child out of the bar forcefully for no reason. He was old enough to be there, we were sitting there listening to the band and he just went crazy! When my child tried to show him his ID the bouncer said, "I don't care." Parents with young adult children...AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! Band was great, servers were great but the bouncer was a maniac and ruined our experience! We have videos to prove it! read more

One of the security "men" decided to screw around with the disabled woman on a cane walking past and made sure to startle me and get me off balance. That then caused a pain flare for the rest of the night. It will hopefully be better by tomorrow, but definitely ruined my entire night. I wouldn't spend a penny at that place if that person is indicative of the type of people they hire. read more

This place is racist! Our group from out of town walked in and purchased shots and then we sat down to enjoy the music played by the DJ. Mind you this place was EMPTU when we walked in. The DJ who was a woman tells us over the microphone that the bar is open based off alcohol sales as if we didn't purchase alcohol! Then she changes the music to country with a song about drinking alcohol so we could leave! As we were leaving, she's constantly saying mean things to us over the microphone. Every year our group visits Fat Catz during our annual bar hop and we've never experienced this before. We will never visit this place again. It was a trash environment. read more

Another of my group's favorite places on Bourbon Street. We enjoyed both a live band and a DJ during our one week in New Orleans, and both scored high on the talent and entertainment scales. The live band, Rock Box, was a '90s Alt/Grunge cover group. Probably about the last sound I expected to hear. But it drew me and my group in, and we really enjoyed ourselves. No cover, beer prices as expected, and excellent music. Bathrooms were actually pretty clean, especially compared to some of the other places we visited. This is my other goto spot when in New Orleans as ive been to this place several times and there are a couple of good consistents #1, the bands are always awesome they play old school, new school, R&B music and there is always a good vibe in this place #2 the bartenders are good and the drinks consistant #3 the bathrooms are relatively clean for Bourbon Street. Be carefull if you have other plans as this place might just keep you there all night. read more

Inside, there was a pianist leading a room full of people singing Christmas songs together ,it felt spontaneous, lively, and genuinely joyful. What was supposed to be a quick stop turned into us staying much longer than planned. The atmosphere was infectious, and we couldn't resist soaking it all in instead of just grabbing drinks to go.We had an amazing time and it truly lifted our spirits and ended up being a memorable part of the evening.

I also noticed they do a proper absinth service here and they offered one of the largest Absinth menus I've ever seen, so I had to try something interesting and different and went with the Texas made Opal Absinthe. Before selecting it, I asked the young lady who was handling the bar and she gave me her description, which I have to say was spot-on to what I ended up drinking. Another drink we got was great as well, and made with fresh juices. The vibe and venue is great here... I love jazz and I would love to return sometime to listen to the live jazz while enjoying their amazing adult beverages!

It turns out that drink is actually a French 125, so I learned something new that night. Great spot with a great vibe.

Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.

I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price.
