The bartender AMBER was so rude. She rolled her eyes at us when we ordered our first drinks. For what? We don't know. A gentlemen ordered us a round of drinks and she practically slammed them down in front of us and proceeded to slam her tip bucket down in front of us. We would've gladly tipped a friendly bartender but I won't be bullied into tipping a raging bitch. When we got to the bar it was empty where she was, and now we know why. Even the staff members said she was a total bitch. She should probably be working in a cubicle and not with the general public. Will never return. BUT, Jasmine was amazing. The drinks were overpriced for NO alcohol! I ordered orange vodka and club and it didn't have any vodka. I was with a friend that doesn't drink and had her taste it and she even said there wasn't any alcohol. On Bourbon Street we heard a lot of live bands playing rock and country, but we heard some good funk music coming out of here, so naturally we brought our funky asses here. The live band playing that night were playing a lot of good 70's and 80's funk, from Rick James to Earth Wind and Fire. They were pretty fun, and had the crowd going! Drinks were pretty cheap, and there was a shot girl selling shots where she pretty much puts the tube in her mouth and you put the open side of the tube on your mouth and she pours the shot in to your mouth. I hope I explained it right, but just know it's a very flirtatious way of giving a shot haha. There are two floors, the top one with a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street. Please, don't even walk in this place! Let me tell you a story. It goes like this. I had friends in from out of town, so of coarse they wanted us to meet them on Bourbon. I am a local, and Bourbon is not my go-to for fun. But, I totally get the allure for all the non-locals. We went upstairs to get away from the horrible MC, and to partake in the 3 for 1s. No one was up there, so our group of 6 was pleasantly surprised to be able to walk right up to the bar with no problem. The bartender on the other hand, was less than enthused and was quite rude. After ordering 60$ worth of weak drinks (3 for 1 or not) my friend asks for a cup of water as well. The bartender says "we don't serve water, but you can get bottled water for 3$". "Oh" my friend says, "I just want a cup of tap water please." The bartender says they don't do that and she can take it up with the owner. (So the vodka water she just ordered, couldn't be served with a side of water?) Are you kidding me!!! This is how you treat your patrons. You won't serve them tap water after they just purchased drinks and tipped you to boot. So my friend says "Ok, well where is the owner?" Curiously enough the owner was not there. Then a worthless bouncer intervened and was zero help. He had the if you don't like it then leave attitude. We were incredibly outraged by the way we were being treated. Ok, I get it, it's a Bourbon bar, but I still expect more respect and courtesy than we were shown. Then the manager shows up, and with no reason asks my friend, who only wanted an explanation for this, to leave. He said he didn't have to serve her anything and that she had to leave. Now people, we are a group of professional young adults who were by no means making a scene or acting disrespectfully. I was the driver and stone cold sober and was witness to this horrible customer service. This review has now turned into a bit of a rant. My friend and I entered early in the evening. We were interested in the band performing. We were ID'd at the door by the security fellow initially. Once inside, we had two of the shot girls force shots on us. They went to run my credit card and cross-referenced my identification (AZ license, which expires at age 65, Google it). Then, a man approached me and told me to get a better fake ID and leave. I calmly tried to explain Arizona licenses have an odd expiration system and I understand it may seem odd. At that point he threatened to attack me me multiple times. I asked him for his name or the name of his manager and he replied with another severe threat. I'm very surprised a tourism-heavy place in the French Quarter is not familiar with domestic identification. read more

At it's core, it's like like every other bar on bourbon... a grimy sh!thole. However, if you glide right upstairs you can get the best of this bar without the vomitus that lies below. The second floor contains a few couches and tv's, a full bar and a balcony over bourbon. You can hear the live music up there, to boot. With $3 shots, cheap brews and no one getting upset when I broke a hanging light (don't try to swing them), 544 showed our group of 9 a good time... until a few shot girls discovered the upstairs area (they are THE WORST). The biggest scam in new Orleans. These women shove shots in your mouth n charge $3 a shot then security comes over n shakes you down. BULLSHIT Let me elaborate now that I'm home and sober. They literally put these tubes of cocktails in your mouth then tilt them up so you can either spit it all out all over her and yourself, or you can drink it. You think it's some free gimmick, who does that? But then she goes, "that's $3 a shot" and she shoved three in my mouth. There is no perceptible alcohol in the drinks so they could simply be corn syrup and food coloring. I told her I didn't order them. I told her I'd tip her $3 and she left. A few moments later, security got in my face and ordered me to pay $9. I paid but complained to the manager who was kind enough to refund my $9. BTW the cocktail waitress kept my $3 tip for assault and battery. And what if someone doesn't drink or is a recovering alcoholic, oh yeah, that's right, there's no alcohol in the drink. This is simply illegal. I would have contacted the City of New Orleans if the manager did not return my money. He was smart enough to return my money, but he still gets the shitty review. read more

Normally I stay far away from Bourbon St. It's just not my kind of scene. If you catch me there it's probably because I'm with a newbie and for some odd reason they all feel like their trip to NOLA isn't complete without having checked it out. So I tell my friend to do his research and pick the place he wants to check out. Funky 544 was the winner of the evening. We arrived somewhere around 9pm and grabbed the last table. There aren't very many, leaving plenty of dancing room. I ordered my vodka cranberry at the bar, $12 for a Dixie sized cup, kinda pricey for Nola, but I am in one of the most touristy areas, so I wasn't surprised. There weren't any waitresses, just shot girls. This place is like most other places here; dark, kinda dirty and lacking in the frills department, thankfully, I'm good with that. They did have great music though. I'm going to look up the name of the band from last night because I would definitely see them again. They played Motown mainly and were fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised in my visit here. I would definitely recommend Funky 544 to anymore insisting on hanging out on Bourbon. read more

Alot of the bars on Bourbon are very similar and you end up walking in and out quickly. However, the band and the music at the 544 make you stay here for longer than you planned. This was one of the first bars we found our way into on our first nola trip and we are officially hooked. On our second trip back I couldn't wait to go back. The band, One Night Stand, is very very talented and they know how to entertain the crowd. They get everyone involved and play all current songs that you would expect to hear on the radio. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are average. What keeps people coming back is definitely the band! read more

My friends and I had a great time at this club until about 3am when we were peeing and the "owner" decided to come into the bathroom while we were peeing with every intention to leave afterwards and she accused us of snorting cocaine in the stall and she called security on us. I myself have a criminal law degree and am extremely offended that she assumed that my friends and I were doing that. We instantly opened the stall to the guards to prove that we were NOT doing drugs (not sure if that's just what she does or.....?) and we were getting cursed out. Live band playing old school MJ and classic dance music. Then the DJ takes over and starts mixing the good stuff. Kinda loud though and hard to speak to someone standing next to you without having to yell into their ear and risk having a hoarse voice the next day but I guess that's what bourbon street is all about right? If I could give this club a zero I would because my friend walked in expecting to celebrate her 21st birthday and instead got robbed, they refused to help. I almost gave this place two stars, but I had to add an extra star for the live music. The band that played the night I was there was amazing, great vocals, with an amazing saxophonist, drummer and guitarist. We danced the night away. The drinks were ok. The hurricane literally tasted like fruit punch with no "punch" if you know what I mean. The music was really good. They played alot of songs you could sing along to. The only big thing that was a turn off was a very very very ....very very very drunk/high/all of the above guy was let in. He continued to get more wasted as the night went on. He was very active on the dance floor. What started out as kicks and giggles ended with him fondling himself in front of the entire bar Thankfully, security QUICKLY escorted him out. In my most recent visit to New Orleans I've made a lot of memories at Funky 544! On our first night on Bourbon Street I had my fishbowl as a poison of choice. When we came in here DJ was blasting current and throwback hip hop music, wasn't too crowded but it had a good crowd. The MC had the microphone and I was having too much fun that I took the mic from him and started singing and dancing to Chris Brown! We did have a great time even though we were here for a short time because we were bar hopping. Definitely give this place a try if you want to hear the DJ playing, you'll have a great time here. read more

A typical New Orleans bar. Karaoke, lame-ish music. A place you walk in and walk out. The ONLY reason I would suggest people go is for the 3 for 1 beers upstairs, so that out-of-towners can save some money on beer for a group. Also the shot shaped shot is amazing. Great late night spot for dancing! There isn't much to the place - pretty divey but great drinks and great live entertainment. Ladies keep an eye on your bags here - my friends phone, id, credit & debit cards were stolen here. The bathrooms weren't to gross here compared to some of the other places...And be aware of the shot girls that come around and push shots in your mouth and then you have to pay for them!! It's a bar. On Bourbon St. They played good music and the doorman was hilarious. I was drunk and acting like the oldest child, he humored me while I watched over my little (she's 32, y'all) sister as she danced her butt off and made new friends. It was fun until the Jersey Boys came in and started acting like jerks. They didn't stay too long, but long enough to ruin the vibe we all had going. We never recovered.
