I have never written a negative review for anyone on Yelp before, but my experience with Victor was so bad I feel compelled to warn others to stay far away. The work (which he didn't finish) was sloppy, his communication was terrible, and his behavior honestly unprofessional. I brought him a vintage lamp whose plastic domes had been damaged; two the tops needed to be repaired and smoothed out to match the other two undamaged domes and so they could be properly screwed in. We assessed the lamp together, in person and in detail, and he said he could fix it. Weeks went by: after multiple attempts to contact him I finally got an update picture. He had merely slopped putty on the top of the domes, matching them neither in color or material, and addressing exactly zero of the issues we'd discussed. He claimed the work was 80% done. I pushed back and said we were not on the same page and asked for a written explanation of how he was going to proceed to achieve the results we'd discussed. After trying to reach him for days, he announced "this turned out to be a headache and I don't like it." I went to go collect the domes; he had ruined both of them. Victor is truly awesome at what he does. I wish I could give him six stars! My boyfriend scratched my beloved CB2 fire-engine red lacquered Fuel credenza. Although it's not that expensive of a piece ($500ish), CB2 no longer makes it in red, and I was very sad at the thought of it being ruined. I emailed every wood repair vendor on Yelp, and Victor was the most professional in his reply and seemed the most confident that it could be fixed. I dropped it off on a Saturday afternoon, and he said that it might take 2-3 weeks to fix. Amazingly, he fixed it within one week, and the work was FLAWLESS. I literally can't tell that it was ever scratched and the fire-engine red color was matched perfectly. He showed me around his shop, and it seems that he is equally capable of fixing modern furniture pieces like mine as he is fixing antiques from the 1800s. March 2021 - I'm sorry to say it but I suggest you look elsewhere. Photos attached. The task was to replace a missing chair leg. The quote was $200. I proceeded. He suggested I need to refinish the other legs, at $40 each. I agreed to refinish the front legs. He said another leg was cracked. Point is, it was $410. Three time he tried to talk me into replacing the fabric. When I said no, he suggested replacing the stuffing for another $400, telling me I could then get the 'old' fabric dry-cleaned (myself, taking it to another vendor) before he reinstalled it. If the result was good, I would not write this review, but please see the pics and tell me how this is a $400 quality? The new leg doesn't have the brass. The new leg is three different pieces of wood and not exactly the same shape. Now lets talk basic work - the stain on the front legs doesn't even match! Victor was great. He was contracted by Vermont Wood Studios to replace a drawer face that had cracked on the cherry & walnut chest of drawers we bought. After the new drawerface arrived he came out and swapped the old one with the new. He also looked at a couple additional small things that needed to be tweaked with the furniture. We had taken photos & video beforehand of the parts with problems and apparently that helped communicate what needed to be fixed. He showed up on time & it all went smoothly in less than two hours. Pleasant man who was happy to explain things to me, and we chatted about woodworking. He recommended the dremel 300 rotatry toolkit for some work I'm doing around the house--and even demonstrated by showing me how to drill out the latch hole I was working on. I don't trust this guy nor do I respect his work ethic. I will now quote in his own words. "It would be cheaper and faster if you hire a handyman." I wrote Furniture Repair 911 via their contact on their webpage and included well lit images from three perspectives of a broken hinge on my maple modern european entertainment cabinet. I explained that I found them online but could not determine which size hinge to purchase and would prefer a specialist replace the item. I got a call back about a week later from Victor who told me the hinge was very rare, hard time find. and expensive. He would need to send a person out to see my entertainment cabinet and install regular english hinges instead of the invisible european style hinges I have. I responded again that I had found various hinges on the internet that looked like my hinge for anywhere from 15 bucks to able 100 but didn't know how to ensure I was ordering the right size, quality, etc and would prefer someone install the hinge professionally in order to ensure I restore the furniture professionally. He told me to send him the link at what I was looking at. I opened google, typed in furniture hinges, selected to view images, found an image within the first 3 rows that looked like the hinge. selected 3, went to their site of origin, which was always a furniture parts shop, and sent him the links. I told him I didn't want to repair a european cabinet with English hinges but told him I could be interested in paying for a hydraulic hinge upgrade. This is what he wrote back: "You are absolutely right, these are very common hinges, my mistake, I could not recognize them from the photos. Sorry about this, my bad. You are right again, a handyman should be able to purchase and install these hinges for you fairly easily. Search "handyman" in your area, there are tons of them. Good luck. Victor." I wrote back: "I thought you were a furniture repairman. Can you not help me repair my cabinet?" He wrote back: "It would be cheaper and faster if you hire a handyman. Victor repaired an old steelcase metal chair that I had; the casters were faling off the bottom and were broken, and the top of the chair was separating from the bottom. He kept the chair for about 10 days (he said he wanted to search for the replacement casters) and when I got it back, the chair is like new... the mechanism works great, it doesn't fall apart when I pick it up, and-- most importantly!-- the casters are solidly attached to the bottom of the chair and the chair feels solid when I sit in it. I also found Victor to be a very nice guy who was easy to work with. Dig that. Overall-- I am definitely going to give Victor a call for any future furniture work that I need done. I waited a while before updating as I always hesitate before giving a small business a bad review but I decided it was necessary. We went back to Victor to refinish a mid-century Hooker desk in March of 2017. He quoted me at $600, which seemed fair given the amount touch ups needed. We dropped it off and he told me he would call me when it was ready. Standard, as he's repaired two things for me in the past and always called when they were ready (One item is mentioned here, the other was an antique purchased through One Kings Lane that came in terrible condition. One Kings Lane found Victor and he came and repaired the piece on their dime. That's how I found out about him in the first place.) We didn't hear from him for about two months, so I called him and he said it was ready for pick up. Kind of annoying but not the end of the world. The desk looked fantastic and we handed him the check. When he and my husband were loading the desk in the car, they tilted it the wrong way and three of the five drawers tumbled out onto the pavement. They each had several dings in the corners and fronts. Victor asked if it was enough for me to want him to repair them, and it was. The combined human error of Victor and my husband caused damage that was very noticeable, particularly now that the rest of the desk looked so pristine. Victor told us he would call us when they were ready. We took the rest of the desk home and put it a room we were using for storage as we're in the process of self-renovating our home. We were also planning our out of state wedding and as result the desk was forgotten about. Somewhere in my mind I'd checked it off my to-do list as I had already picked it up, forgetting about the damaged drawers. Flash-forward to February of 2018, when we're re-organizing the house after our wedding, and I realize that the drawers are still in Victor's possession, and we haven't heard from him. Frustrated with myself for forgetting, and Victor for not calling, I called him so I could come collect the drawers. I knew he had some reviews about being forgetful, and given the way the drawers had been damaged during pick up, I was almost waiting for him to say he'd forgotten all about them too. Instead, he had no idea what I was talking about and asked me to email him pictures. Now I was officially terrified. I had spent over a year looking for this specific desk on Craigslist, finally purchased it, and then taken it to someone I trusted to have it restored. I sent him detailed pictures of the desk and which drawers were missing. The response I received was as follows: "I looked all around and I don't have any drawers, it has been almost a year, I wished you had called earlier." I have since emailed him multiple times, about once every six weeks to see if he's found them. He hasn't. He claims to have no recollection of what happened to them. My best guess is that he used them as scrap wood. I don't know why anyone who runs a business like his would see three drawers lying around and not think to call their owner (he has both my cell phone and email). I now have the shell of a beautiful, hard to find mid-century desk in my home, and I'm out the $600 I paid him to fix it. At this point I would have been better off rubbing the damaged desk in Danish Oil and calling it a day than taking it to him. I recognize that I should have remembered the drawers, called Victor earlier and dealt with it, but between single handedly planning a wedding on the east coast, renovating my home, and dealing with multiple out of town visitors, my life got in the way. I relied on Victor to do what he said. Call me when it was finished. A simple enough promise from someone whose job it is to finish the task at hand and then alert you when it's completed. So yeah, Victor. I wish I'd called you earlier too. read more

When I sat down on my 6 year old leather sectional, heard a crack, and dropped down a few inches, I knew I had a big problem. One of the tiny interior legs had fallen off along with part of its support, and the lengthwise stabilizer wood/pressboard had also cracked and given way. I had no idea who to call. I searched Yelp and found FP911, and I am so lucky I did. I brought pictures to explain what had happened, and Victor came out to the house to make the repair. I quickly learned how crappy my sectional was below the leather, but Victor put it back together with new stronger supports in about an hour. I couldn't be happier with the value for the price I paid, which was very reasonable and will extend the life of my sectional by years. Plus, I now know what to look for should I ever buy a new one, thanks to Victor. They are very busy here (I imagine fixing other crappy furniture out there like mine!) so if you leave a message, make sure to follow up if you don't hear back in a day or two. Victor arrived in the morning and gave us a quote for $100 thinking it was a 30 minute job. I have to note: I am madly in love with our atomic couch, so I was thrilled that it wasn't going to cost a fortune to fix. He left after giving a quote, came back later in the day, opened the bottom of the couch, notified us it was different than he expected and began the repair. Long story short; It took about 2 & 1/2 hours and extra man-power. He called in his assistant, Mazi (sic?) to assist. After they finished I asked what was due. He said "$100". Victor has refinished two different pieces of furniture for us. The first was a family heirloom that belonged to my husbands family and had been painted bright yellow in the 70's. The piece that emerged was nothing short of magnificent. That was a few years ago. I recently received a lovely mahogany table from a client, I was selling her home. The table was old, worn and severely stained I wish I had taken before and after photos. The piece I picked up 2 weeks later was stunning. I am so very thankful for Victors talents. I just moved here from Florida and had to move a hand made Chess top side table that my great grandfather built by hand. I had no idea how to ship, so I shipped it UPS pack and ship (see my 1 star review of the UPS store). It arrived and had dents on the sides of the table and I figured it was ruined forever. I searched online and found this shop for repairs. I sent pictures to Victor and he said he wasn't sure if he could repair it, but to bring it over ASAP. I dropped off the table at his house and he told me it would take a little over a week. After about 4 days he told me to come in and the table looked great. He was able to steam out the dents and pull them back out of the table and sanded and touched everything up. It turned out better than I could even hope for. Victor was very nice and it seems like he really enjoys the work he does. I hope I never have to use Victor again for anything because that means something else went wrong with my shipments, however if that did happen, I would bring it back to Victor right away. They repaired a crooked chair leg on an upholstered dining chair for me and fixed some of the knicks and scratches on the legs as well. I previously took this chair for repair to Greg's Wood Refinishing who was the worst and gave me the run around for a month on the repair...not only that, Greg was trying to overcharge me and told me the leg needed to be flipped around. Victor looked at the leg carefully/closely and with his expertise, showed me that the leg didn't need to be flipped at all...it just needed to be adjusted and stretched. Not only that, Victor completed the repair in the promised time period and charged me $55 less than what Greg was charging. AND whenever I called Victor, he answered the phone and was responsive...unlike the run around I experienced with Greg. After reading reviews here and on a subscription review service, I decided to take my rocking chair to Victor. It had a broken runner that needed replacement. We negotiated a price that seemed high to me, but I was willing to pay given all the good reviews I'd read. I called victor on the day promised and left a message that went un-returned. I left another the next day. And finally, by luck, I called and he picked up. He said, Oh yeah, it's ready. I arranged to pick up my chair. He wasn't there when I picked it up. The guys working for him had no idea what chair I was talking about. I had to look around the shop to find it for them. It was buried under boxes and sawdust. I paid my premium and took my dirty chair home. On the upside, the repair is fine. I just expected a better experience given all of the great reviews I've read. read more

My boyfriend and I purchased a brand new couch from Living Spaces. We only had it for one month when it broke when we both sat on the same end. We are both close to 6", not fat, just big. We did nothing that should have warranted breaking a piece of furniture that's supposed to carry the weight of actual people. We googled everything regarding our warranty, and what we were going to have to go through to get it fixed. We were horrified to find atrocious reviews of the company, both of the products they sell and their customer service. It's amazing that they are in business. From what we guessed from what we found online, we were looking at aproximately $300 in delivery/transportation service fees alone, and anywhere from 2-9 months turnaround time to fix a problem that should never have been an issue in the first place. We googled furniture repair online as an alternative and found Victor. We cannot recommend him enough. He is a busy man, and old school in his approach; so there was a little back and forth via phone and text, much like my mechanic, but he is well worth it. He made a house call, and exposed just how crappy the structure of the couch was. Turns out the frame was okay, but the front part of the couch was stapled to cardboard instead of wood and screws, so when we sat on the front end, the foot just fell aside because it was STAPLED TO CARDBOARD. He braced what needed fixing. He was quick, good with our dog, and way cheaper than what we would have spent in delivery fee's had we attempted the custer f*** that no doubt awaited us had we gone through shady Living Spaces. Not just cheaper, but the time and headache's that would have accompanied the process as well. As saddened and frustrated as we felt as a duped consumer with no real recourse from a shady company, we felt equally as happy and grateful with Victor, proving that there are businesses and service providers that care about their customer and, do good work at a reasonable rate. Like I said, we cannot recommend him highly enough. He is awesome. read more

I called around to every furniture store in the Los Angeles area and everyone said they could not repair the chair my puppy chewed up because the damage was too severe but it's an expensive designer chair and I didn't want to throw it away. Victor was the only one who said he would fix it. He was fast and reliable. Victor did such a fantastic job I can not even tell which arm was destroyed. Victor is beyond fair; sometimes his generosity leans him away from a larger profit. His ability to date pieces, sometimes based on nothing more than the shape of a nail, is uncanny. His staff is professional and courteous. He is funny, smart and dammed good at what he does. His quotes are fair and if it has to go over (very rare), he calls. Is he Superman? I have a fold-out sofa bed that was suddenly not lying flat. I emailed pictures to Victor (hoping it was something I could fix myself). He called me right back and told me he was in the middle of a project but he could come over tomorrow. I told him I was expecting out of town guests today that needed the bed, was there any way I could fix it. Instead, he said, I'll be right over. Short version: In my opinion: extremely poor customer service, careless and dishonest crew, and sub-par workmanship. Victor and another worker came to our house to fix the frame of a sofa bed; in the process of repairing this item, they damaged our brand new laminate floors in not one, but four distinct spots We are not talking scratches, but actual thumb-size chips. Not only Victor never acknowledged the incident, he was particularly angry at us when we brought up the issue and said that these chips were there before they started working on the sofa (despite us having photos documenting the opposite). Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company - we all make mistakes, but not admitting the mistake and yelling at your customers is not an acceptable attitude. Also, check out the negative reviews that were filtered by Yelp... it speaks for itself! if you want more details, here's the long version: Our sofa-bed frame got somehow damaged... two components of the frame were coming apart and we had to get this fixed in order to use this piece of furniture. We checked out yelp reviews as we usually do; Victor had few reviews but they were mostly positive (plus it's a local business and I'm all about supporting my community). We, however, did not check out the filtered reviews which were really poor... Setting up the appointment was painless: Victor was responsive, came over quickly to check out the sofa and gave us a quote on the spot. He was - at the time - very personable; we even had a good conversation about our respective jobs. Victor and his crew came back a week later to fix the sofa; the frame was solidified on one side, though only in one place while Victor told us that he would solidify both sides. In addition some of the fabric that had to be detached from the frame was not put back in place, and all staples were hanging (which is rather dangerous should you need to lift the sofa!). Repair was $250, as quoted previously. It's only after they had left that I noticed four deep and large chips in a brand new laminate floor! The chips are spaced with the same exact length of the trampoline - it looks like they dropped it very heavily on the floor to make this kind of damage... There was also some red stains dissimulated under the sofa (blood?)... Needless to say, I was displeased and called and emailed pictures to Victor right away once we found out. Victor NEVER mentioned that these chips were there before (and how could he - they were not!)...He initially seemed willing to make amends, inquiring about the model and make of the floor. When he came over to inspect the damage, it appeared as though he changed his mind and lied in a very aggressive fashion; Victor dismissed our complaints, telling us that the damage was not caused by them but was old damage. We asked why they did not bring it up before, and he had no answer to this - he essentially accused us of taking advantage of him, while all we were looking for is an explanation. We have email threads and picture documenting the issue (it turns out that, luckily, we have a picture of the room taken the same day before these guys came over). We're now in the process of reporting him and seeking legal recourse as this laminate floor cannot be fixed that easily, and we're looking at a costly repair. As I said earlier, we all make mistakes - but accusing your customers of damaging their own laminate floor is beyond anything I've ever experienced... Do not trust this company, especially for in-home repair... In our case, they demonstrated an absolute lack of respect for their customers and, as importantly, their property. Last but not least, there's some shady business going on: the California license board website indicates that, while Victor is licensed, he has no employee/workers compensation. Well, it certainly looks like he has employees working with him... this seems rather non compliant to me... read more

I have a small crested gecko named lex that fell into my couch and got lost into the crevices about 36 hours ago. Reaching around in the couch with my hands, I was unable to find or reach her. I contemplated tearing up my newly purchased sectional couch to search for her but resisted the urge, I decided to just allow lex to find her way out of the couch. 24 hours after she was lost in the couch, my gf and I started to realize that she may not be able to find her way out. She found furniture repair 911 this morning and victor was here by 5pm the same day. He opened up the couch from the bottom and within a few minutes lex bit him! Her bite isn't strong enough to penetrate skin but definitely startled victor. At the end of the day, Lex is ok. The couch is intact! Victor is very friendly and personable, very prompt service. I recommend his services for all your furniture repair needs. It was a pleasure watching victor perform his first animal rescue. read more

So I called them again to come out and give me a estimate, he should up unannounced to my house on a Saturday and said he will have a estimate in a few days, it's been two weeks with me making multiple calls with no response and no estimate. He didn't fix all if my problems that he was supposed to do nor the damage that he did and he over charged the company that hired him. I would stay away from 911 Furniture Repair. One star is too high . 3 phone calls , numerous emails with pictures and a quote of $50 to have "someone come look at my couch" which a week later turned into $80. My Uncle used to have an upholstery / furniture repair shop and while he was an exceptional craftsman he took even more pride in actually delivering customer SERVICE . Saddest thing is that the other YELP reviews spoke so highly, makes me wonder if they are legit.
