I called beforehand a couple of times to ask questions and always received courteous and unhurried responses. They don't accept appointments but were able to get to my car pretty quickly after I showed up and completed the smog check itself in almost no time at all. Price was more than fair considering what a hassle-free experience it was. The only thing I'd point out is that the signage makes it seem as if the smog test site is separate from the repair/service shop next door. They are in fact one and the same so you need to enter the service shop office to let them know you are there. read more

This is not my normal smog test spot, but since I was nearby after a meeting I thought I'd get my car tested here. I called ahead of time and let them know what kind of car I had and they quoted me $45, which is what I usually pay for a smog test. They were very nice over the phone and in person! My car passes all parts of the smog test but fails the visual part. The mechanic brings me to my car and tells me that "the engine valve cover is leaking out onto the exhaust manifold, smoke coming from exhaust manifold", resulting in a fail. I am a little confused but take their word for it. They mention how strict California is getting on smog tests and it's getting harder to pass. They charge me $37 and tell me to come back once it's fixed and they'll charge me only $20 for a retest. I am pretty bummed about the fail, so I let my gf know that I failed the test and explained what the smog technician told me. She immediately thinks that something is up and the reasoning for failure is fishy. I inspect my car with her and doesn't understand why my car would fail the smog test... oil wasn't smoking from anywhere in my engine. I take my car to my go to mechanic and smog technician to inspect my car and fix the leak the G8 technician failed me for. He looks at my car and sees nothing wrong and asks if I want to go ahead and retest my car. I say go for it... a few minutes later and my go-to technician tells me that my car passes the smog test, just like it should have the first time!!! He thinks that G8 was trying to finesse me for more money and the reason for my fail was a bullshit reason. I do not recommend G8. I'm not sure if they try to take advantage of some people, but my car should not have failed to begin with. My car passed less than a week later with a different smog technician, who was just as qualified. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. Although these people are nice, they cannot be trusted. read more

AWESOME! I am going to tell everyone I know about this place. After pulling out of the parking lot, I called my brother and a friend and told them about this place. And I hope they're going to spread the word too. I was confused by the directions my iPhone gave me as well as some of the comments here on Yelp. If you're driving towards the airport on San Bruno Ave it's on the left corner after the train tracks, across from the Toyota dealership. There's a HUGE parking lot! I pulled in and thankfully no one was waiting. Edward came out and asked me how I found this place. I answered, "YELP!", and he showed me into the office, had me fill out the paperwork and quoted me $55 for check AND certificate. Like WHAAAAAAT? HELL YEAH! Prior to going to G8, I was on the phone w a friend who recently got her car smogged and she paid $70 for test AND another $20 for certificate. I almost, ALMOST gave in and went to that same place b/c it was closer to home and b/c we have the same car. She said the dealer quoted her $110 for test and she doesn't even know what they were going to charge her for the certificate. He told me 15 minutes and I don't even know how long it took b/c I was distracted by the ever so adorable Turbo, Ken's Shiba Inu. Felt even less than 15 minutes. Yes! So, the bottom line is you HAVE to get a SMOG check every couple of years. But, you wouldn't expect the guy doing it to be a super nice person. Usually when confronted by one of these experiances the employees seem about as interested in helping you as the waitress at the local TGi Mc Funsters. Three things impressed me about this place. Firstly, Ken quoted me a cheaper price then anyone else. Secondly, he offers a retest if you don't pass at no additional charge. Lastly, the kicker...the price he quoted me on the phone is exactly what he charged me! Sorry to cast a pall on the SMOG industry but most of the people I have dealt with in the past want to take your money and add additional fees for things they should be doing. Really? You need to charge me a certificate fee of twelve dollars? What else would I be here for? Ken would destroy all these other SMOG posers in a steel cage death match! This place is awesome! The guys who work here are really friendly. Sometimes auto places can be intimidating, but these guys are totally approachable. Service was super quick, too. I almost didn't believe they had even done the smog check because it was so quick. Seriously, from the time I pulled up to the time I drove away was less than 15 minutes. To think I had put off getting my smog check done until the last moment because I didn't want to deal with the hassle. From now on when that registration renewal tells me I need a smog check, I won't hesitate. I'll just head over to G8. Aww...my car is getting old and now I need to do smog check every other year. Just moved to San Bruno a year ago and I did not want to go back to the city for Smog Check... so I checked on Yelp and found this place which is just down the hill from where I live. Went there is morning (on a tuesday) and there were another lady doing smog check when I arrived. The wait wasn't bad at all..I think I waited for 10 mins for my turn. Service was quick and people working there are nice =) There is an auto repair shop right next to the smog check station....maybe I will go there and give it a try for car maintenance!! The space is really tight (he only has 2 spots and can still only run 2 test at a Time) and its really easy to miss his area because its right off of El Camino and its always busy on thr street and his testing place. But the guy was really nice and easy to talk to and when my car didnt pass smog the 1st time (id just gotten service work on it a few days before) he gave ne a bunch of tips on exactly what to do to make sure I passed when i came back. read more
