These guys give good Phone. Friendly, communicative and helpful. This place feels like your church member owns it. I was trying to coordinate a smog check with a vehicle retirement and called the guys 4 or 5 times over the course of a couple of weeks and they never got exasperated or irritated. After that first great experience, I immediately brought in the new vehicle I got with the retirement of the old one and had them smog it as well. One quirk to be aware of is that when I Googled their location It gave me 3 different GPS locations. I almost never post on Yelp, but I feel inclined because of the experience I had at G8 Smog. I work on cars myself and don't like other people touching my vehicles, notwithstanding all the negative experiences I had in the past when I wasn't so mechanically inclined and got taken advantage of and ripped off by shady inept mechanics. We've all been there, whether you realize this or not. I'm stopping there because we're getting off topic. Focus you! Skip to bottom for short version. [TLDR version: Historically, my experience with various cars is that smog checks have always taken 30 minutes or more, usually waiting in the line of cars, then waiting for the technician to "get ready," then having the technician taking 10 minutes just "setting up" the car, then walking away and "multitasking" on other cars with everyone chatting away with their coworkers with no sense of urgency while you stand there waiting as if you have all day to get this done. Today, after a rough week at work (like most of us), I stopped in at G8 Smog without an appointment. I was prepared to be there for about an hour, and just wanted to get it over with, pay and go home. The gentleman behind the desk was genuinely very personable and friendly. He explained the smog process thoroughly yet concisely in about 20 seconds. I handed him my key fob and stood outside staring at all the fake fitness babes' snapchat-filtered skinny pics on my Instagram stream, accepting that this is going to be just another time vampire experience. Less than 10 minutes later, they said my car was done. I paid for the service and thanked the people behind the counter for literally making my day better.] ... Short version: No appointment, parked the car, talked to the guy, smogged the car, thanked people behind the counter, and was on my way home all in under 15 minutes. Been going to this place to see Ed for years and so has my mom who by the way is 65 years of age. She came in for a oil change and they ended up doing a smog check saying that she asked for one. Not sure how this particular person Ryan conducts business but the right thing to do would've been to ask for her Registration Renewal showing that she needed smog. Even after the being told that she wasn't there for a smog check they still charged her. Looks like we'll be conducting our business elsewhere from now on. Pretty sad when we've been supporting this local business for years. Also for the record my mother was there to see Ed who still works there and the person I spoke to over the phone was Ryan and somehow magically it's Ken responding incorrectly. When I arrived, there was one couple ahead of me, but that wasn't a problem as I was greeted promptly and told that I could wait inside their office (plenty of seats, TV, & a water cooler) and I'd be up momentarily. Seriously, he was done with their car in 15 minutes as they drove away happy (extra happy because he'd asked them if they'd heard about them through Yelp and they looked blank, then said "yeah" tentatively... he gave them the discount anyway, lol). I don't know about the 3-star reviewer: I, too, called ahead of visiting and got two quotes= the original price of the smog+certificate & the amended quote after I asked about the Yelp discount. *** I did not find them in any way, shape, or form to be deceptive or unclear about their pricing nor did they try to price-gouge.*** Great service and friendly staff, plus Turbo's a real cutie so they're even dog friendly :).
