I am a fan of Korean BBQ. Recently, a friend celebrated her birthday and our gift to her was to take her out to eat wherever she wanted. Her choice - Gabose Korean BBQ. I had never heard of this place, but she let us know it was her favorite spot to enjoy this kind of food. They do not take reservations, and we were a group of 6 on a Friday night. You should prepare to wait, but the great news is that their other restaurant / bar next door will serve you drinks while you wait. We didn't wait long, had one beer nextdoor before being called back. Wow just wow when it came to the feast that we had. To be honest I have no idea what we ordered as I was a major passenger princess on this meal and let my friend order her favor things for us. My fave was the short rib but all was excellent. Food and service was all around good and I would definitely come back to try more, especially BBQ. We started with the pan-fried dumplings, Goon Mandu which were good but nothing amazing. Everyone enjoyed the seafood pancakes, Hemul Panjun. The black bean noodles, Jajanmyun, got mixed reviews from our party of six. Personally, I liked them but didn't love them. It was my first time trying this dish. The noodles themselves I enjoyed a lot -- kinda slippery, nice chew. The black bean sauce was very umami and I could easily see this being a comfort food to some. The stars here were really the grilled meats, and this place is unique in that they have charcoal grills. We ordered two of the marinated Kalbi, short ribs, because everyone loved it so much. The marinated chicken was good but would probably skip it next time for more Kalbi. The bulgogi was delicious and would definitely get that again. All of the bonchon, little side dishes, were great too! As far as the vibe, I'd say it's pretty casual and family-friendly. The only thing I find a little scary is when they bring out the hot charcoals to the table. That thing is hot and heavy and has to be brought to the table with extreme care. Sorry no pics! Gabose Korean Restaurant absolutely delivered an incredible meal. We didn't have time to do the make-your-own BBQ, but that didn't stop us from having a fantastic experience. All three of us ordered bibimbap served in hot stone pots, which crisped the rice perfectly. Topped with beef and a gooey egg, it was truly amazing, especially with all the little side dishes of kimchi and perfectly pickled vegetables. We also shared dumplings that were completely delectable, and then came the showstopper, a rich, spicy stew brought out on a mini stove, bubbling away with noodles and rice cakes in a deep red broth. Stir for three minutes to let the noodles cook and then.... Wow wow wow. Every bite was comforting, bold, and full of flavor. The food here is absolutely on point and so delicious. I love this place, its a bit more on the pricey end but the quality and authenticity you cannot find anywhere else nearby. The restaurant setting is cozy and the charcoal grills are in the back, you barely smell any smoke inside at all! Kudos to their ventilation system! I usually sit in the regular seating and i always order the daeji tofujigae, comes out perfect everytime! Their appetizers like the seafood pancake and the gool jun are amazing and worth a try as well. Love this place and its one of my favs in south florida! read more

Worth the drive! After having experienced an incredible Korean barbecue on a Virgin Atlantic ship, I had high expectations. Gobose did not disappoint. We ordered bulogi, shrimp, chicken, and omg! Wow the food is amazing! Drove an hour and change from Miami with family - actually it was highly recommended by my cousins' Korean boyfriend - who was the birthday boy for our feast. The spicy pork bulgogi and chicken bulgogi were a surprise hit! Everything was delicious and you can order as many kimchi sides as you want. Service was warm and fast. This place is quaint with consistently great service. The real standout here is the spicy pork belly. It's phenomenal and honestly the main reason I keep coming back. Everything else I've tried has been just okay. One thing to note: the staff is very particular about where you sit. Even when the restaurant is nearly empty, we've asked to move to a more private table (as opposed to sitting directly beside other guests) and have been declined every time. It's a small thing, but it does affect the overall experience a bit. The spicy pork belly is worth the visit! The soups tasted like the broths were from yesterday's broth and the side dishes tasted stale. The prices have also jumped by quite a bit since I last ate here. The last 3 times I have visited our experience has been different. In all 3 occasions they were out of several of their well known side dishes for Korean bbq. 2 of the 3 times we were told they were out of lettuce. (Like how, it was so odd). The last 2 times the staff was not very attentive and seemed bothered we were asking for anything. Mind you we went during the day and it was not very busy at all. We were celebrating our older son's birthday and my wife had the idea if taking him to Gabose Korean BBQ. We arrived around 7 PM on a Saturday and the had a 1 hour wait time for the BBQ. They were very friendly and gave us a few options, including waiting on their other business across the street, Gabose Pocha (bar). We decided to go for the BBQ and grab a couple drinks across the street. After about an hour we were texted that our table was ready. It's a very popular place the ambiance is buzzing with the noice of the other tables. It's feels a bit like a large family reunion. The servers were wearing masks. Our server answered our questions and gave us plenty of time to make up our mind. We started with a serving of Goon Mandu ($16). We ended up getting 3 BBQ ($38-39 each). Yangyum Galbisal (marinated beef), Shrimp Gui (Shrimps) and Darji Jumul Luk (Spicy Pork). They came with an assortment of small dishes and white rice. We ordered 3 Soju of different flavors ($18 each). My wife ordered Age Tofu ($9) and Jekuk Kimchee Bokum ($28). We ordered an extra serving of rice ($3) and a coke ($3). It came to about $60 per person. Service was good and everything was brought to our table efficiently. As soon as a dish was empty someone would pick it up. Food was good, and it is an interesting experience. I spent quite a bit of my time grilling the meats for my family. The soju wine was very good. Next time, I will just have the premade food, so I can enjoy the meal rather than cook it, and save the 1 hour wait time. read more

My husband and I have two adult children who were adopted from Korea, and we all have visited the country. For years, Gabose (pronounced GA-BO-SEH) has been the go-to place for our family to indulge in Korean food. I just realized that I never did a review. So, here it is. The place is smallish, seating maybe about 50. It doesn't take reservations, so it is first-come, first-served. Going for dinner after 7 (particularly on a weekend) usually means you will wait for a table. You can grill your own BBQ at the table, or not. I prefer not to cook---that's why I go out to eat. :-). During our recent visit we fed 6 people. We took our pastor, his wife, and their daughter out to have their first Korean meal with us (hubby, daughter, and me). We ordered the Korean scallion pancake (which was perfect and came sliced into 6), two orders of Jap Chae, two orders of chicken Bibimbap, two orders of Bulgogi, and one order of Galbi (BBQ ribs with bone, cooked in the kitchen). Our food arrived before the traditional side dishes that are usually served with the meal. (They are complimentary and refillable.) Missing among them was my sliced fish cakes, a favorite. There were three kinds of Kimchi (cabbage, string beans, and zucchini); a spicy, horseradish-tasting pickled cabbage; and sliced white, marinated radishes. (I could eat bowls full of the radishes.) There also were at least two kinds of spicy paste to add to any of your entrees. The Galbi was a favorite at the table, though I found it a tad salty. (I must admit, I am not a huge fan of red meat). The Bulgogi was moist and had the perfect flavor. The Jap Chae noodles were just right. But my favorite of the meal (besides the sliced, white radishes) was the chicken Bibimbap. I adore the crispy, slightly burned rice and combo of vegetables. Of course, the added blobs of spicy pepper paste made it perfect. Service is excellent. There were constant inquiries to see if we needed something else ("More water?"). Of course, I got extra white radishes. :-) Prices are not cheap, averaging $30-$40 per person (and of course, they have skyrocketed since the pandemic). For example, the Galbi was $35, a bit pricey for the small bowl that was placed on our table (see photo). However, while there are many decent Korean eateries in Broward County, Gabose is one of the best and well worth it. read more

It seems like they only have six to eight Korean barbecue grills, along with regular tables for non-barbecue dining. I ordered two stews, a few meats, and black bean noodles. Absolutely a gem in the middle of Dade County!!! This place has some of the most authentic Korean food you'll be able to find in the area and they use a charcoal grill which is just a game changer when it comes to flavoring the meat. Great hours, good parking space and great vibes and service. I want to gatekeep this spot so no takes all the bbq spots haha! This spot is definitely a gem in South Florida, where there's not much authentic Asian food. They use a charcoal grill, which gives the meat so much more depth to the flavor. First time going to Gabose after having gone to nearly all the other KBBQ places in the area and I'm really happy we did! Food was top notch, we elected to let the kitchen cook it for us (a first at KBBQ), and everything we ordered was excellent. The staff was all very friendly and gave great advice on the dishes and was very quick with any requests, even though it was quite busy. It has taken me a few years to write this review but it's been a long time coming! I use to venture around the area for Korean BBQ since there are so many within a few blocks. There's other restaurants nearby that also offer a better price per entree or entice you with an AYCE deal. Now, I don't even try to go anywhere else. Gabose will win you over everytime with their consistent taste and authenticity in Korean food. When I want a guaranteed good meal, I'll drive over to Gabose. Gabose is divided into two types of seating. The grill or a regular table. At the grill, you can grill your own meat in front of you at the table but you'll have to reach their minimum of ordering at least 2 dishes to grill. As for the regular tables, they would just cook the meat for you in the kitchen and bring it out. We really like the grill but when we're in a rush, we do the regular table. The flavor of the meat after cooking on the grill is unbeatable. It's delicious! A few of our favorite authentic dishes to get here would be the Soontofu soup with beef, seafood pancake, the japchae, and the bulgogi. We recently tried their jajamyeon and it was a large portion! I had the absolute worst dining experience at Gabose, we have eat here for many years, this server is definitely the worst one and I'm still fuming about it. From the moment we walked in, the server Cindy, who barely acknowledged us, and give us the attitude, set the tone for a dreadful start. She was blatantly rude, rolling her eyes when we asked simple questions about the menu and acting like we were an inconvenience. There is a hair in the food as well. When we politely pointed out the mistakes, she snapped, "Well, that's what you ordered," despite us showing her the menu items we'd clearly requested. To top it all off, she had the audacity to include an 18% tip on the bill, knowing full well we were unhappy with her service. We always tip 20%, but the way she does not care the customers, made us a bad mood from start to finish is unbelievable. And I told my wife and friends, this is the last time I dine here. It's hard finding restaurants my husband likes so when we find one we always go back. We found Gabose last year. The food was amazing then and still is. Consistency is a good quality to have when so many places don't. We were seated and attended to by two servers and it wasn't over bearing. The gyozas to start were delicious. Hubby was trying to teach me how to do the chopsticks our waitress walking by said I'll bring a fork! Yes please. I ordered the pork bulgogi because I thought it only came in beef. I've tried a few KBBQ spots and each time it's just okay as far as quality and taste of the marinated meats but this place?!!! It completely takes the cake. The menu is humongous but authentic so I would definitely want to explore more but I left more than satisfied. We started off with the fried dumplings and the flavor was on point. In order to use the grill you have to order at least two meats from the BBQ charcoal section. We went with the marinated short ribs and the shrimp. The marination on the short ribs were perfect, not too sweet or overly saturated - just right. The quality was also amazing, I could see myself coming here just for those. The shrimp weren't anything crazy but I couldn't decide on a second meat and they tasted just fine. We also had the beef bulgogi which was tender and flavorful! I've been trekking out to Gabose Korean BBQ for a few years because it's the best KBBQ in Greater Fort Lauderdale. Each table has a hole in it for an authentic charcoal fire pot. No electricity needed, except maybe for the exhaust vents. Generally it is pretty crowded with a line of people waiting. Luckily this time we only had to wait for our entire party to show up. By then we were already drinking soju and beer near the hostess station. Pineapple soju is interesting! The beef such as Galbi Gui, short ribs, is well marinated. Ditto the pork. Your own party cuts and grills the meat. So tasty! Banchan, a variety of tiny side dishes accompanies your order, although not as many as I recalled from earlier visits. Pickled veggies, kimchi, daikon, etc. I ordered Gyeran Jjim, Korean steamed eggs which was my fav dish eaten with rice while growing up. My grandfather used to make it for me Chinese style. We also ordered a few Korean soups. You really can't go wrong with anything in the menu. My new fav is their Yukhoe, Korean steak tartare, mixed with egg and eaten raw. Really yummy like carpaccio.
