We had Bul Jok (Fried Spicy Pork), Tang Su Yook ( Deep fried pork) and sticky rice. The Tang Su Yook came with a very delicious sauce that was sweet and sour with thinly slice vegetable. I was shopping in Aventura mall and craved Korean food so I googled and found this hidden gem! The location is hidden and had to get some help from the staff to find it. My advice is it's in the shopping center where you will see a Wawa's on the corner. The small restaurant is located near the thrift store. It's small when you walk in, you're greeted by the sweetest guy! I believe it's his mother's place. They brought out the banchan my favorite side dishes! Omg the kimchi was so delicious. When I asked about it, it is homemade by the mom! Of course you can taste the love she puts into it. I loved it so much I took some to go. Also, you are given bean sprouts and fish cake as side dishes. I ordered bulgogi. It was cooked to perfection on the hot skillet accompanied with onion and green onion sizzling on the grill. Went here with my friend that was in town from Naples. Her area has little to no Korean food, how very sad for them! She is part Korean and was looking for some authentic food, so we decided to give this place a whirl, since I was looking for a new Korean place to try. The place is in an unassuming plaza, on the very end of one of the strips. You may pass by it if you are not looking. We waited until they opened and walked in one minute after they unlocked the door. Very tiny space, maybe 6 tables at most? They got 2 more customers while we were there- one took food to go and one ate there, so I am not sure what their busy hours are. The server was likely the owner. He was not the most pleasant person, very short and curt with his answers, but this may be a cultural thing. We ordered some Soju, mandu, japchae, and budae jigae. The cook everything to order it seems. The banchan was kimchi, sesame Chinese broccoli perhaps (?), seaweed, and fish cakes. It is a very small amount. I liked the kimchi and sesame greens, but the other 2 are things I do not like in general so I didn't eat them. My friend did and she enjoyed them. The mandu was very good, simple easy potstickers. Nice and hot. The japchae came out next. You could tell it was wok-cooked right there as it had that smoky taste to it. It was AMAZING! All the flavors were on point. My friend even commented on how much of it I ate, since I usually eat exponentially less than her. The budae jigae came out maybe 10 min after we finished off the japchae. This thing was HUGE!!!! It came bubbling hot, and was placed on the little double burner that the server/owner sat on the table in the beginning. It was legit stuff! Bakes beans, Vienna sausages, Spam, kimchi, fish cakes, Ramen, smoky/sweet/heat flavors, ham, gochuchang. The server bobbled some of it as he sat it down because it was so big, causing it to spill some, but the massive amount we got was fine minus the few sloshes. As the budae jigase sat as we ate, it got thicker and thicker, by the end it was almost like a spaghetti with sauce. I took the leftovers home and enjoyed the next day. It was a tad pricey for Korean food, but I guess it is a trade off to have the authenticity. I think it was about $90 total for everything. This place is a gem of a restaurant located in a strip mall that is really nondescript and it seems like they are hiding. It's not a fancy place at all. This place has about 10 tables that fit two people at a time if you come with a larger group then they just move tables around to fit your group. The place was packed and I heard that sometimes they run out of food because they are so busy. We started with Gun Man Doo (fried vegetable dumplings). The skins were so thin. Then we ordered their Kimchi Pan Cake with Green Onions, grilled beef short ribs, homemade noodles with thick black soybean sauce, plus a deep fried chicken special in a sweet and tangy sauce. What an adorable little Korean restaurant. This was a visit post-covid, and the place has transformed using QR code menus, and the owner is masked at all times. I love the decor of this place; it feels like traveling back in time to 70s LA Koreatown. As for the food, i ordered just the army soup and pan fried dumplings, and both were on point. I'm sure all the other items on the menu are just as good too. The army soup was more than enough for 2 people, and it can definitely feed 3 hungry adults and 4 not so hungry adults. It had everything in it from what I would expect, and ramen/rice comes with it. you can reduce down the soup in the end and basically fry the rice with the soup. I had bibimbap - more or less a rice bowl with vegetables, beef, and topped with egg. My friend had the kimchi Jigae - a stew with beef, tofu, and kimchi. Both were very good; the jigae a bit too spicy for my friend. Best yet, they serve banchan - little side dishes. Like other Yelpers, I look forward to returning, it's not far from Miami Beach. At first I wasn't sure how authentic it tasted cause I've never been to Korea but everything was tasty. My son on the other just returned from Guam and spent 10 years in the US Navy, he's been to many places, Japan, Korea, Indonesa, and others. He found the food there to be as authentic to Korea. He wasn't disappointed. Now this place is NOT big or fancy...it's on the corner of an old plaza of 441 and Hollywood Blvd next to a New Wawa. The inside looks dated and there's a TV showing Korean food shows. The staff is so polite and nice. They didn't rush us in our order and answered all our questions and filled our requests. I HIGHLY recommend this place for the BEST Korean food. They've been here for MANY years and they may not be busy, but clearly the food is good enough that they're still here. I discovered this restaurant through a friend's recommendation. Located in the corner of a plaza, this small, family-owned restaurant is easy to miss! Upon walking in, there are only a few small tables for seating, but the staff is willing to combine tables to accommodate for larger parties. Their menu is pretty expansive, with dishes ranging from soups to noodles to grilled meat, and very authentic. After asking our waiter, Justin, about their popular items, we ordered dishes like the kimchi jigae, pork soondooboo, kalbi, and bulgogi. I personally ate the pork soondooboo, or tofu soup, and the pot was boiling and full of different ingredients. The tofu soup was spicy enough to feel a kick, but not painful -- you could probably adjust the spice level when ordering. The dish came with a bowl of rice, and side dishes were frequently refilled for our table. Justin often walked by to give us more water, ask if we were okay, etc. Even comparing to other Korean restaurants in Sunrise/Plantation, the authenticity, quality, and service at U Know is exceptional. Great little establishment by a husband and wife team. Food is very authentic and fairly-priced. 20 min drive away from downtown Miami, so I'll definitely come back. There are maybe 4-5 tables so I would call ahead to make sure there are tables available given the need for social distancing. I was happy that it wasn't Whole and I didn't have to see their little heads. Even before I went plant based it grossed me out. He also had a spicy seafood and noodles soup. It was huge and filled will a variety of seafood. He loved both his dishes. I had the dol sot bi bam bab - veganized. No egg. No meat. It was AMAZING! This is one of my favorites when I go for Korean and I was not disappointed. The hot bowl continued to cook the rice in the bottom and I was thrilled with the crunchy pieces of rice goodness at the end. They added a lot of veggies. I don't eat the spicy sauce that usually comes with it so I had what was a tastier soy sauce. I also ordered a soup, but couldn't eat it. It was way too spicy. The server said she'd have it redone but I told her my husband would eat it as a leftover and just to pack it up. All the little starters (banchan) they gave were delicious. I actually added some of it to my dish. Although there really is only one thing on the menu I would eat, I could eat there again and again. I don't often leave reviews but have decided to make a rare exception today. The warning signs were there 4 hours before I even stepped foot into this "hole in the wall", but unfortunately, I went against my best judgement. It all started around 3:00 today when I called to ask if they had Soondubu soup on the menu. The man on the phone was out right rude and hung up on me when we started having issues hearing one other. After calling back, he confirmed that they did have it on the menu to which I followed up asked what time they were open to. He responded by yelling "I said 8:30!!" Not sure why he yelled at me and not sure why he was acting like I had asked him multiple times, but I shrugged it off and after conferring with the wifey, we made plans to have dinner there in a few hours. Cons: - The man (co-owner/husband) needs an attitude adjustment. About 1.5 hours before closing, 3 separate groups of diners came in looking to be seated. Each of the 3 convos were pretty similar: Customer: Table for 2 please. Man: No! I have no room!! You see I have room? (In fact there were 2 open tables but perhaps were left unused for social distancing?) Customer: Ok... how about take-out? Man: No! I have to cook food for everybody already sitting here! Customer: Ok... can we come back? Man: No!! We close 1 hour! I have no time!! - Service is terrible. After being seated, we waited for 10 minutes without being given a menu or served any water. Finally my wife asked for a menu to which he responded by pointing from across the room to our table and yelling "it's right there!" We honestly had to do multiple double takes before we noticed the QR code in the corner. Ultimately, we waited 40-60 minutes for our 4 dishes to come out. I'm pretty sure that this is a 2-person, husband and wife operation and that the wife is in the back cooking everything by herself. Every dish at every table came out in single dish waves, spaced about 5 minutes apart. Oh, and we had to ask for our bonchon (side dishes) twice before the man finally brought it out. Each of the 4 sides, by the way, can be polished off in a bite or two. Pros: - The food was actually quite good. The other reviews are accurate in that regards if nothing else. GoonMandu (Fried Dumplings): Hot, crispy, juicy, 8/10 Jajang Myun (Noodles w/ black bean sauce): Salty, 6/10 TangSuYuk (Sweet &Sour Pork): More chewy than crispy, good sauce, 7/10 SoonDubu: (Tofu Soup): Piping hot, very tasty with a good assortment of vegetables, 8/10 Champong (Spicy Seafood Soup): Piping hot, very tasty with a good assortment of vegetables and plenty of seafood. The soup had a wonderful lightly charred taste which stemmed from the cook having toasted the veggies with a mini torch. I have to say, this is the best I've had anywhere. 10/10!! tldr: Food was surprisingly good, especially the spicy seafood soup. Its just about as good as it gets. It's tiny place, a bit hidden right off the south west corner of Hollywood Blvd and US 441(sr7). I had the spicy stir fried baby octopus. The octopus was sliced thin, (my wife hate watching me eat the whole baby octopus), and served with thinly sliced vegetables in a spicy red sauce. Our server also asked me how spicy did I want it. What a great dish. I also had the spicy seafood soup with noodles and vegetables. It was an enormous bowl! It had clams, mussels, shrimp, and octopus with lots of vegetables and a ton of noodles. I managed to eat about seventy percent of it, and I enjoyed ever spoonful I had! My wife had dol sot bi bim bab vegan style. Its basicaly a rice bowl. It had a nice assortment of vegetables, but her favorite part was the rice on the bottom that is gets crispy. She also ordered a bowl of mild vegetable soup. I liked it, but it came out to spicy for my wife. It was supposed to have no spicy at all. They were going to remake it but she was full and had them package the spicy one for me to go. A note to the owner because I feel this is not the norm but: The big con was there was a rotten spoiled water smell, like sulfur, when you walked in. Once we arrived I suggested the owner move to a more visible location. The answer I got was that grandma is doing all the cooking and there have been 5 previous Korean owners making Korean food here. So they had no plans to move. I resigned myself to "you can lead a horse to water..." Inside the restaurant it's quaint, clean, and everyone is hospitable. The decor is equally outdated, but functional. After looking at the menu we decided the the seafood pancake looked interesting. We also ordered some steamed pot stickers, and Galbi Beef---marinated beef ribs. I also had a Korean version of bud light called Hite, which is what it tasted like too. As you'd expect, the entree came with a variety of different small plates called Banchan, which translates to rice food side dishes, and were set in the middle of the table to be shared. Our main dishes at the center. Come to of it. It's always family style to eat Korean food, and this is what makes it more intimate and enjoyable. We enjoyed each of the fishes and our host was also very attentive. If we find ourselves here again we will try some of the soups or just ask for recommendations.
