It was extremely frustrating making plans, checking your website beforehand to verify your hours, seeing an "Open" sign outside, getting out of the car, walking around, and then being told the restaurant was closed for renovations. I even looked inside and saw what appeared to be people sitting at the counter, so the situation was honestly confusing. At that point I wasn't even sure if I was misunderstanding something or imagining it. Either way, it was very upsetting and inconvenient. By 9 PM, thanks to Yelp, I managed to find another place nearby for drinks, but unfortunately their kitchen had already closed. Really delicious Korean BBQ!!! We loved the charcoal grill, which provided a wonderful smokey flavor to the meat! We enjoyed marinated galbi and pork belly. Wow, what a drop off. Gabose Pocha used to be one of my favorite food spots in South Florida, but something has changed for the worse since their remodel. I stopped by last week after not having been since before their renovations, and not only is the place totally different inside (not necessarily in a bad way, just not as cozy and authentic-feeling), but the prices on the menu have gone up slightly and the portion sizes have gone down pretty significantly. The portions for the Doshirak and Corn Cheese were about the same as they were previously, but the Cream Tteokbokki and Spicy Pork Belly were ridiculous. The pan of pork belly looked like it had been half eaten when it reached my table! You can see the before and after in my pictures. The food at this place is excellent - like, seriously good. However, I can no longer justify driving 45 minutes to pay more for less food. One shout-out I will give is for the waitress the day I went. We went to Gabose BBQ restaurant on a Saturday at 7 PM, and they had a one hour wait time. They gave us the option of waiting at Gabose Pocha (bar) while we waited. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We had three create your own cocktails ($13), Oksusu Fries ($9, corn with some spice), Goon Mandu ($10) and a Coke ($3.95). But the gravy on top was thick and a little sweet Wings 6/10 - I'm not sure what the sauce was but I wasn't a huge fan. Initially we were trying to go to Gabose but with the wait headed over to Pocha which seemed like the right decision. There was no wait there which was great so we sat down and decided to eat there. The tables were low and not very comfortable. We wanted the bbq experience so we ordered that but it wasn't the same as you would have gotten at their other location. Contrary to what I originally thought, Gabose Pocha is separate from Gabose Korean BBQ... although they are in the same plaza. If you're looking for a good meal with quality KBBQ meats, opt for Gabose BBQ. But if you're looking for some casual bites, drinks, and a fun time- head over to Gabose Pocha! We ended up eating at Gabose BBQ and got drinks at Pocha after. We had a large group of 7 but were able to share the long table in the center with another large group. If you stay further into the night, they start their karaoke sessions which I definitely recommend! We ordered a round of drinks and some bites including their bulgogi ramen nachos- a must! This consists of the fried ramen topped with marinated rib eye, pico de gallo and sriracha! Of course, we also got a round of sake bombs.. or were they soju bombs? The ambiance is dim lights but not in a dressy sort of way, with KPop and Korean EDM in the background. Cool art too! Now in times of Rona, our temperatures were taken coming in & we had to sanitize our hands. Staff was masked, and we had to remask even just walking to the bathroom. As usual, I tried to start with their Sesame Leaf mojito, while she ordered their strawberry basil shrub. Our tastes in alcohol vary slightly so I ended up with this before switching to Hite beer (wheaten and an overall smooth sip). My mojito was more like drinking a salad so I'll pass on that. The little brother of Gabose Korean BBQ, Gabose Pocha brings the Korean street food experience to you in a cozy environment. When I had been there previously, the only alcohol offered was soju and wine, but now there is a fully stocked bar, with local beers on tap. As it had been a long week, I decided to go with a bottle of the New Apple Mango soju to start off the night and perused the menu for something filling to eat. Turns out I was very much in luck, because in addition to their small plates/street food, they also had air fried short ribs. I substituted the white rice that it comes with for ramen noodles, but kept the pickled vegetables that it comes with. The food turned out to be quite a large portion, which worked out well as I was pretty hungry. There was hip hop on the sound system and the servers/bartenders would bust out into karaoke every so often. I believe there's a set night that they usually do karaoke, but I'm not sure when it is. Sooooo this review has been long overdue. Every time I've come here they've been sold out on most of their big menu items. Regardless, I've been here a few times enough to write a review that's legit. I came here two weekends ago, and me and my cousin were first in line at the door, and there was a couple behind us and somehow they were attended to and seated before us. They were also served their drinks and food before us. That kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I get that it's a small place, and it's dark and loud, but I feel like the service here has always been so excruciating slow. Have been coming here for years and it only gets better and better each time! From the outside it doesn't look like much, but when you walk in it's decorated nicely and the music is top tier! Cherry Blossoms hang from the ceiling over a bench seating area (for large parties only) and the signature steel tables with cushioned stools remind me of South Korean restaurants entirely. As an appetizer, I ordered the Spicy Tteokbokki w/o fish cakes and for drinks the Pocha Peach Tea and Milkis for my friend. The Tteokbokki was amazing and the rice cakes were nice and chewy, definitely not the frozen stuff, although I found the sauce to be a little too soupy unlike how I usually order it at other restaurants. I found the Pocha Peach Tea to be good but it definitely tasted like tea with no alcohol. I prefer more of a punch, soju has a "sneaky" way of getting you tipsy though, so beware. I also ordered the Strawberry Basil Shrub that was definitely stronger and more of an acquired taste due to the vinegar but not bad for my first try. Following that, we ordered the Padak which was an amazing option recommended by staff and the Pork Ramen. The Padak had light and crispy chicken bites tossed in a light sweet soy sauce and with the green onion salad on top, the flavor and crunch meshed together beautifully. Definitely fireworks when you're tips! The Pork Ramen came in a cute military container and had a flavorful broth with sides of kimchi and pickled radish that enhanced the soup. I was very grateful that I got to try this place right before they closed for renovations. Don't worry, they'll be reopening in a few weeks! The food was DELICIOUS. The tater tots were soggy as hell, couldn't eat them with chopsticks. They weren't seasoned aside from the unnecessary amount of toppings, so it was either soggy and tasted like kimchi or crunchy and tasted like... unseasoned potatoes. The grilled squid was so basic. It also wasn't cleaned properly so some of the guts were still hanging onto the rings of the body. No seasoning, just 3 sauces that were also underwhelming. The legs were also dried out from the grill, the sharp corners hurt my gums. The tofu shiitake was beautiful and I was SO excited when it came out, but I was disappointed again. It's just a chunk of tofu with shiitake and the whole thing tasted the same throughout. I have to admit though, it was fried perfectly, props to the chef for technique. The mussel soup was good! Only thing I'd order again, but still not worth coming back here for. The jalapeños in the soup were old. I could tell because the seeds were shriveled and there was no spice. Service was weird. The waitress expected us to move the dishes that were already there to make room for new dishes while we were in the middle of eating. She could've just walked to the other side of our huge circular table and put it down where there was plenty of room. She also didn't notice us asking for the check 3 times. We finally got her attention because she was delivering a dish to the table next to us. Took forever to take my card too, I got up and paid myself at the register because I wanted dessert from Ppang across the street since this place clearly isn't reliable. Good vibes only!! Came here to chill after eating dinner and it was the best idea ever. This place looks small but it has a really big heart. Their employees are such a vibe. So nice and down to Earth. They turned on karaoke for us and even joined a long with us. Everyone who was there got involved and it was a great experience. Really really talented staff lol. They should be on American idol. I witnessed them get a score of 99 which topped our 96 ... LOL. But aside from that the food is good for sharing. We got plenty of apps & entrees. Soy garlic fries, bugolgi nachos, kimchi fried rice, soy garlic wings, squid, stew, lemon pepper popcorn chicken.. and the list goes on. This was one of my best finds ever !! I happened to be in this neighborhood Pre- Covid which is a bit out of my way and wanted some late night grub. I used my handy Yelp app and found this place tht was open till 2am. I am always looking for good Korean food so this fit the bill. Loved the kicked it had. Next the Bulgogi Ramen Nachos. Didnt know what to expect. I thought we would just eat ramen with the Bulgogi and cheese on top. But it was cleverly crafted where the ramen peeled away from the other ramen almost as a big chip as the cheese oozes away from the plate. The heat from the sauce/toppings/meat made the texture a little softer similar or my best comparison would be to an egg nest noodle. This was an excellent well crafted dish and was amazing! Of course the last was the reason why I came. Looks to be a Low carb plate of Buldak Cheese. (Majority meat and cheese) Loved it. The combination of chicken, cheese and that spicy sauce. Soooo much going on in my mouth didn't even know how I swallowed. Over many bites I was sweating the heat was definitely there. But not sure if it was from all the dishes combined but I loved it! I sat in this restaurant and forgot where I was. It felt as if I was no longer in Florida, honestly who would think a place like this is on inverrary blvd and university dr. This restaurant sits behind its father restaurant Gabose Korean BBQ Restaurant and I enjoyed my visit. We walked in and it had two dining areas a dark and a light. We chose the dim lit, darker seating side with metal tables and chairs and a huge farmers table in the middle for large groups. The decor was so cute, the hanging plants and terrariums gave me reception vibes but it was cool. The waitress and owner greeted us and told us that since it was our first time dining here we should check out Yelp for pictures of the food as the menu had explanations but the pictures would be a great visual. Of course, I had already done that so I knew what I wanted to taste and try. Definitely try the Pig Ear Sam, cripsy pig ears, sweet chili sauce (YUMMM) with julienne vegetables in a lettuce cup - WATCH OUT for the sliced jalapenos on top!! Ramen Nachos are good, a wholeeeee lot of cheese, bulgogi, and crunchy ramen. The Spicy Korean Ribs are yummy too, not as spicy as you think but great flavor. To drink try one of their housemade Sojus, a vodka infusion, I had the apple flavor which was server in a beaker and made to drink sake style in small glasses. If you're not into vodka try the Sparkling Jelly Sake, interesting drink with bit of bubbly lol. The highlight of the evening was the KARAOKE, who knew, lol. Every table is given the opportunity to sing 3 songs from the book and the system scores each song based on how well you keep the tune and know the lyrics. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!! My husband and I were timid at first but what the heck, we got the mic and sang Backstreet Boys - As long as you love me and had the whole room singing.
