Very disappointing. If your looking for something that isn't aimed at tourist this is not the place. Waiters were very pushy in getting you to get more expansive meals. Drinks were more moderately priced. It took us 10 minutes to get our drinks a mojito and a beer. Mojito tasted like water and lime and not worth what I paid for it. The food was very bland and lacked elementary seasoning on the steak I had. needless to say I just had a bite of the steak and no more. Nice upper floor with tables looking out to the street! The waiter was a seasoned up seller. We wanted fajitas to share as we told him we were not very hungry. He insisted we get fajitas for two. We had shrimp and chicken fajitas which were delicious!! More then ll enough for 4 hungry people. When our check arrived. Not only did it have our fajitas and the beer and Gin & tonic we order but it had also had an unordered Malbec wine and a coke. They quickly took it off. But do not be fooled. We had a great night at Gaby's a couple of days ago. We had delicious Mexican food, served by a professional team who cared deeply about our happiness with the quality of our experience. Amazing restaurant and attentive staff! We had just flown in and needed dinner quickly, so we asked a cabbie to take us to a good mexican restaurant. Lucky for us, he chose Gaby's! HUGE margaritas, healthy portions, and a friendly wait staff made this restaurant a new favorite for us. One of the men that works there also makes his own tequila, and my husband LOVED it. He said it was the purest he had ever tasted. They offer full bottles for sale. We will be back next trip! read more

We tried Gaby's for the first time based on a recommendation from a couple at our condo complex. The good things first: the atmosphere/rooftop is nice and depending upon where your table is, you can either see the ocean, or you can view the slideshow of historical PV that Gaby's projects on the next door building. The Caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had, even though it took our waiter 25 minutes to make it. And he asked us twice if we had chicken on the salad (to which we said yes, twice), because he didn't have chicken as any of the ingredients while he was making the salad. Overall, the service was very slow. There was one large party wrapping up their dinner when we arrived, and another large party that had just arrived. It took almost two hours for our dinner. My daughter had chicken enchiladas, which she liked. I, on the other hand, had simply grilled shrimp that came out sauteed in some type of white sauce that actually made the meal inedible. I not only sent it back, but actually had to spit out the one bite I did take. Not sure if it was the sauce, or the shrimp, but the shrimp tasted very fishy. And this was after several days of really good shrimp in PV, including the skewers on the beach for $3. I would not return to Gaby's. read more

Centro 48300 Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico 52 322 222 0480 In downtown Puerto Vallarta we found a gem that was down the street from the hotel we were staying at. During our three-day trip we saved the best for last even though my friend and I were looking forward to dining at this spot since we got there. Our hotel reception recommended Gaby's restaurant and provided us with a coupon for free margaritas! So, on our last day of our mini vacation we dolled up and finally took a walk down to Gaby's. Upon arriving to it you can notice the Fuchsia restaurant sign engraved on the bottom of the two-story building. Gaby's has a cozy traditional Mexican restaurant look. My friend and I wanted to get a seat outside to be able to have a view of the ocean. At 9pm a cruise ship throws fireworks and Gaby's provides a film through a projector, so we wanted to be close to that. We ended up on the second floor with a corner/ balcony table where we got the best seat for our expected views. The set up was traditional with piñatas hanging from the roof, table cloths were checkered with a yellow, blue, green color scheme and some nicely folded napkins sitting on top of the table. The server came up to us and brought a purse hanger and handed us the menu. My friend and I had in mind what we wanted so the server took care of us right away and he spoke English (side note for those who don't speak Spanish). We told him specifically what we were craving and he was able to direct us into the plates that best fitted the category. Our server was amazing but for sure he was trying to up sale us (you'll find out later why I say that). Our server mentioned the specials for that day and it was exactly what we wanted so we ended up saying yes to those plates. The wait time was 10 to 15 minutes and while we were waiting our server brought us our free margaritas with some chips and salsa! The chips were toasted just right and the margaritas were great! One because they were free and two because they weren't so strong on the alcohol, just to my liking. Later our server came with our supreme plates. When I glanced at it, it was so much food but looked delicious! My friend was dying for her shrimp and I was dying for my enchiladas. After some time, we finally got to taste our food. My plate came with: a side or white rice, green enchilada, beans with queso fresco sprinkled on top, a red tamale with sauce layered on top, a Chile relleno with sour cream zigzagged across, and dark mole. The plate set up was marvelous, and you can see that the chiefs make it with a lot of detail and love. Each time I took a bite of the enchilada it was amazing! The green chili had so much flavor and the tamale tasted like it was made by my mom, this was some real Mexican food. My friend and I didn't talk for like a good 15 minutes and we devoured our plates! During our diner this guitar player came in and he played us a song of Mana, his music gave the spot good ambiance. My friend and I got to watch the fireworks over the ocean and the black and white film that was played on the side of the building in front of us. To the end of our service we got our bill and when I opened it up my eyes widened. The total was 800 pesos which was about 50 US dollars. I was shocked at the price because my plate was like 15 dollars. So, I handed the bill to my friend and when I saw her face I busted out laughing because she ordered a $35-dollar plate. I asked her if she checked how much it was on the menu before she ordered and she said no because it was the special of the day and the server described to her the size of the shrimp, all she wanted was big shrimp. What made it even funnier was that she went through the (10 count) shrimp and savored each and every one of them only to find out her plate was super expensive. Overall our experience was amazing and unforgettable. Aggressive "chef" tried to video our encounter (wasn't provocative enough for YouTube,) a certain bald waiter was very verbally abusive. Felt sinister. So sad, so many talented, compassionate servers are tangled in this web. Guess they're not doing so well or 1 hour of manipulation then their calling the policia netted them a robust $60USd from a 25yr PV visitor. Apparently being a female & dining solo raised flags, esp when lobster enchiladas were ordered. Food was really wonderful but post-dining experience was absolutely disgusting. read more

Had breakfast here the day we returned to PV from Yelapa (our hotel includes breakfast so we usually have breakfast there). What a delight! I wish I could remember the name of what I had, but it was described as a "traditional Mexican" breakfast. I have been to this restaurant several times in the past and have never been disappointed, but not this time. First, they didn't have our reservation. Then the server was not very attentive and we felt as though we were bothering them. The beer that was ordered wasn't even cold! I ordered an appetizer of mussels. Excellent. However, the entree arrived part way through the appetizer and I and a companion were forced to hurry to finish eating. Really poor timing on the restaurant's part. The entree was cold as was the meal of my companion. We told the server and he told us that is was supposed to be cold. This was a chili relleno which is supposed to be hot. Why tell customers a lie? Are we stupid? We returned the entrees and when they were re-served, I had a much smaller (almost half) portion. Almost half the size of the previous one. We had to ask for forks again because they had taken them when the entree was returned. Really poor service all the way around. Last time there for this year! read more

Gaby's has been one of our local favorites, particularly for special occasions and family celebrations. Unfortunately, our last visit on March 24th was unexpectedly horrible. We took some friends who were visiting there for dinner, and the service we received ruined the entire evening for everyone. The food took extremely long to come after ordering, items requested were forgotten, our waiter mixed up my husband's order and then tried to insist that he hadn't (even though the whole table heard what was ordered and assured him that it was wrong), and my food was cold and not fresh at all (I think that the waiter got the timing wrong and it sat for a while). And after all of that, on the way out, the waiter confronted our friends about not leaving enough of a tip (they had left 10%) and he insisted that they give more. We were horrified, embarrassed and completely disappointed. We aren't yet sure if we will return and try our luck at better service. We may have to find a new local favorite. read more
