Imer and Owen of GAC Electric Department came to my house to install a new electric panel on June 24, 2021. The total price is 4908.88. I'm sad about two things: 1. THEY DID NOT PUT A COVER ON THE PANEL. It is dangerous for children and adults not to have a cover on the panel. 2. Imer charged me exorbitant price for the outdoor outlet $805.17! In addition, Imer was trying to make more money out of me when he offered installing fire alarm for around $900. I declined. Then he finds a power switch in my kitchen "not working" and offered to fix it for $77! I am a retired Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Yoga Teacher. What makes them think they can get away without putting the cover on the new panel and charged me exorbitant amount. I'm an older senior single citizen. I called up the office today because my air conditioner shut down as a result of the installation. The HVAC coordinator Kathryn was very sweet and sent out a guy from that department who came and fix the problem. I called up Sandy, the boss for the Electric Department and he agreed to take out $230 from the $805. I hope that things go well for my upcoming estimate on a new unit. They were so nice on the phone. Most of the bad reviews are from people that must live in a box. Several complaining about visit and assessment charges. Are you soooooo disconnected from reality? A person that can bill a couple of hundred an hour has drive to your house - round trip for a hundred dollars or 89 or whatever? They are barely breaking even if they do not get the work. GAC installed our HVAC System and it has worked well - the only reason they get 2 starts - The follow up service has been anything but working well - 0 to less than 0 zero stars for their follow-up service agreements. We signed up for a twice a year check-in to change filters, check the system and ensure that there was nothing to worry about - From the beginning, it has been an awful experience. Much too long to write about so I will share the most recent - just multiply this experience by the past five years and you will get the picture. We are the owners and lived in the property when the HVAC was installed - the service has been awful since the beginning. We had to move from the area and now have a renter living in the house as well as a local management company. GAC has the numbers of the renter and the management company but cannot seem to change it from the original cell number put in the contract 5 years ago. We have begged GAC to update their records - they will not do so. On December 23, I received yet another call from GAC. I was working and could not answer - GAC cancelled the appointment - they never tried to call the management company, they never tried to call the renter. After 5 years and countless explanations, calls, emails, etc., GAC will not update their records. Additionally, GAC never actually switches the vent system each visit (which is a one reason we wanted their ongoing service). There is no way I would ever recommend GAC unless you are putting in the HVAC so that you can sell and move. Save your money, time and exasperating experiences - find another HVAC company. read more

I have been a customer of GAC Services for many years with an annual maintenance agreement on my home as well as a rental, condominium office unit. Over the past years I was so pleased with the technicians and the customer service that I personally recommended three complete HVAC installations which were completed by GAC. I remain pleased with the technicians representing GAC however, since the change in ownership the quality of management has gone downhill with little or no ability to communicate and entirely too much emphasis on the almighty dollar. As a retired owner of a service company for over thirty-five years I would like to share this thought with the owners and managers of GAC Services: "Take care of your customers and they will take care of you" and "If you don't have the skills to run the company properly hire someone who does". read more

Charged almost $800 to replace a capacitor in an outside unit, drain overflow plan and an emergency visit. GAC recommended to replace entire HVAC unit or spend $4000 to clean the coil. The problem was not fixed. AC continued to shutdown. Hired another company they charged only $140 for the visit and unclog the drain. Problem fixed! AC is operating fine. The other company also said the the AC is fine. Fool me once shame on me... Hope this will help others. Beware! read more

I signed up with this company for there annual agreement and their tech replaced two capacitor's in my brand new ac unit outside. They gave me a 50 discount but the annual plan was well in excess of the savings. The unit was not fixed so they then claimed it was my thermostat. So I paid again for not just one thermostat but three because each time a new tech came out they did not know about the nest thermostat. So we ended up with the echobee they supposedly know about but the echobee was programmed incorrectly or the guy blew something up in my unit as I saw it spark and he denies breaking the part. But the unit has not operated properly since. They had there team of very arrogant senior men come out saying basically I was crazy and that the unit is functioning properly. But it's still broken, heat pump outside does not operate only the aux heater that they connected incorrectly when the guy shorted out something. They came out 13 times and never resolved my situation. Basically told me to go with someone else after they rapped me for their incompetent techs. My unit was under manufacturers warrantee and now I believe the five year is up and I could have purchased a whole new system again for what I paid them. Stay away. The promptness, professionalism, knowledgeable technicians, and price all contribute to my excellent experience with GAC.

It has been my experience as a customer of approx. 5 years that this company's technicians are not knowledgeable or very experienced. GAC is a great option for clean and checks, but if you have the need for any repair beyond a filter change, it is highly recommended that you seek a referral for another option. We were ridiculously overcharged for diagnostic work and our freon was drained as part of this process which cost over $1700 to refill!!! We were charged $2500 for diagnostic work to identify a leak that wasn't there. We verified with 2 other companies that there was NO LEAK and GAC refused to refund us fully. Further, the communication breakdown that occurred was inexcusable. Had we the time to dedicate, this would have been a slam dunk in small claims court. Pure negligence and an absolute breach of trust. Poor customer service with little to no response from the quality control manager and no communication from management in spite of repeated requests and promises of calls back. Do not put yourself in a position to have to request any sort of refund from this company. The process took weeks and we were not satisfied with their offer or the fact that they simply mailed a check with no discussion as to how they determined what a fair refund would actually be. read more

I had a disappointing experience with GAC last summer. They charged me a $114 "diagnostic" fee for my AC but never told me why the AC wasn't working. Instead, they tried to sell me a new AC for almost $7,000. I contacted a smaller company, which diagnosed the problem and fixed it for a small fraction of GAC's quote. I asked GAC for a refund of the diagnostic fee but never heard back. read more

I have hired GAC for two jobs now and they are one of the finest contractors we've dealt with (we're restoring an old house so we've dealt with a lot of contractors over the past couple of years). Their service starts with a knowledgeable and friendly estimator, then a construction manager does a detailed walkthrough, and finally a massive crew of English-speaking employees (not independent contractors) does the work in a clean and professional manner. The next day when I called for an appointment, Brad was patient and courteous on the phone, and someone came out the very next day. I called them because my AC stopped working they came out 2 days later. Told me the issue motor is blown and we needed a new battery. Total cost $1100 not including the service call. tech said someone will be out tomorrow to install. We get a TEXT next day saying it will be in between 13-17th of month this was on 7/6/23 ok what to do. A friend came over and told us he has a friend who does HVAC ok gave him the information. The battery that GAC said would cost is $200 is actually $25.49 and the motor they said would cost us $900 was actual $209 I understand an UP-CHARGE but really. I will NEVER use them again they even gave a quote for the air duct cleaning of $780 the guy said that is way too expensive. Do Not Use GAC Services they are a RIP OFF... I called and got a refund for my $200 I initially paid for that battery. When I told them why they just said oh ok. The new person ordered the parts came next day and installed we paid all of $400 for a full job. That included his 30 minutes of labor and the parts. Shame On GAC Services.... read more

I'd like to update my review. The company did get back in contact with me and I got one of the most sincere apologies I have ever gotten from a business. I do think staffing and supplies complications due to Covid was a huge factor in our experience. Came out during a cold snap for routine maintenance on 5-year-old Carrier Infinity system. Heater was working fine prior to their visit. Heater did not work after their maintenance. No heat for 2 weeks, while they worked to find the missing part. They insisted they did not damage the heater. They insist that these things break all the time during their maintenace visits, and that they "discover" the faults that have just been waiting to break. They charged $1146. I have switched to to Tucker's HVAC. read more

Walter, the tech was so friendly and professional He showed us how the self fix the issue we were having and recommended a much needed cleaning of our out side unit. "Missed Life-threatening Furnace Damage" There were several issues from minor to major with the service I received from GAC the past few years. "Recommended Unnecessary Enhancements": One tech insisted I replace my working thermostat ($50) with one for $475. None of the extra features were any that I would use. "New part recommendations for Old furnace": The techs listed several major parts as 'Immediate Repair' instead of being up front and saying it would have been cheaper just to replace the furnace. "Missed CO leak": My furnace shut itself down and the first tech couldn't find anything wrong and restarted it. There was a second problem several days later. This tech checked everything and also said he could find nothing wrong then restarted it. The second time the furnace shut itself down, I called someone else and they immediately diagnosed a Carbon Monoxide (CO) leak from a severely rusted part. GAC techs should have seen this installing the major furnace parts earlier. GAC certainly did not find it after the furnace shut itself down. This new company was upfront: they couldn't legally restart it and I needed a new furnace immediately. This means that both times GAC restarted my furnace without knowing why, CO continued to leak into my home! "Difficulty Making Amends": I reached out to GAC in a business-like manner on 11/30/20. Instead of apologizing for the critical misdiagnosis, GAC initially offered only to refund me the second half of my prepaid annual maintenance fee. After my first review, the owner called offering somewhat more redress as he protested about how little profit GAC made installing the parts. It took over a week for him to make partial restoration (received on 12/31/20). "Summary": I wouldn't use them again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. read more

DO NOT USE THEM!! We used them in the past and had good experiences but this experience showed them to be dishonest. Edmund came to our home yesterday because they called to say they were running a $49 special to check systems for the winter. He began with our older unit (15 years old) and told me the heat was not working and therefore, the $49 would not apply until the unit was functioning. That was absurd enough but it got worse. Then he told me that the wiring on the unit was wrong and we had no wiring for heat in that zone. We used heat all last winter with no issues and no one has touched the unit in the interim. That was when I became very skeptical. Edmund then quoted me $1375 to fix the unit! He told me we needed a new heating element ($750), rewiring of the whole system ($375), and another part for around $200. I said we needed to think about putting that much money into an old unit. What I did was call Germantown Heating. They just left and fixed the problem for $101! He just had to replace a couple of wires and the heat turned right on from the thermostat that he said had no heat wiring. Save yourself hassle and money and don't use them! read more

We were loyal GAC customers for years. Recently, however, they turned on our furnace to melt a frozen coil, which at the time seemed fine. That same night, our ceiling collapsed...which might have been triggered, but was not ultimately caused by the HVAC work. Our insurance company accused GAC of faulty workmanship in denying our claim for the ceiling. When I asked GAC to write a letter defending the quality of their work, they declined to do so and stopped returning my calls. Any reputable company should be willing to defend its own work and help its customers. I will never use GAC again...which is disappointing to say the least. read more

I needed to get a New HVAC System for my home. I contacted three places. They aware the most responsive. Chris came out and told me what would work for my situation. Went over the options a got me a proposal right away. And the price was more then fair. Which really helps The other two places took days to get me a proposal. The work was amazing Christian and team arrives. They took great care and the System was installed very neat. No mess they cleaned up everything. I'm giving a one star if i could I would give them no stars. My ac at my condo stopped working. I was told by my dad that he knew several people who had used them that they were great . My dads company also did work for them on their building and he was impressed by them and etc. So I went on their website and they were closed but did a online chat with one of their representatives and I asked one simple question and the person kept giving me the run around and didn't respond to my question til the very end. Made an appointment on Monday for furnace tune-up. Appointment was scheduled for Thursday (no estimated time given) with stipulation technician would call 30 minutes before arriving. Waited all day and did not receive a call. Contacted company's answering service after 4:00pm and was told I would receive a call back. Finally received a call after 5:00 and was told appointment was mistakenly never scheduled by office personnel. Was told that technical could come on Friday (again no estimated time) with a $20 discount. What a joke. Told scheduler I would find another company to provide the service. I was very happy with GAC Services from start to finish. Eric, the sales tech, was friendly and informed. Apart from our HVAC (which had broken after 21 years), we were also looking to replace our water heater (which was not broken, but at 25+ years was so old we feared it could go any day). We got 5 quotes. GAC worked with us on pricing and we got a really good deal. They also were able to install just a few days later (compared with a couple of vendors who told us the wait would be at least two weeks). The installation team was polite, professional, and efficient. This being during the COVID-19 pandemic, I appreciated that they wore masks during all their interactions with me or any time they left the utility room. I noticed that they did not wear masks around each other, which was a bit surprising. I imagine it gets very hot doing that kind of work and the mask must make it even hotter, so I can understand that. However, it meant that after they cleaned up at the end of the day, I felt it important to sanitize as many surfaces as I could. As far as the installation itself, they did a great job. As our systems had been older, not everything was entirely up to code. They managed to get everything installed nonetheless, and made sure everything was up to code by the time they were done. I'm grateful and in the weeks since the installation, everything has been running perfectly. In short, I highly recommend GAC Services. read more

He showed me how the unit worked, and gave me tips on how to keep the temperature in my house better controlled. Showed me settings on my Nest unit. I got a call selling me a "seasonal tune-up" for my system. When the appointment took place it became clear that this was JUST an opportunity for them to get inside my house and sell - an opportunity that I was paying for. They didn't do anything beneficial but left me with estimates for a laundry list of repairs to the main system (which they had been servicing biannually up until 12 months previously, so why wasn't anything said then?) and replacing a smaller system entirely which they said had a leak (again, part of their previous service contract and the system had been running perfectly until that point). Lo and behold, after their visit the secondary system was no longer cooling. I called out a second company to take a look. They told me they could guess what happened (can't we all?) and topped up the refrigerant (which cost me $800 - ouch) and told me I would know within days to weeks if there was actually a leak. 2 years later it's still running fine. I didn't want to believe that I'd been scammed by GAC so badly. But what other option is there? So BEWARE the "seasonal tune-ups" - they're just an opportunity for these guys to get into your house and sell, and maybe even worse. read more

Update: I don't think I've ever encountered a company that has gone down as much as GAC in the past couple of years. Their routine maintenance is essentially just a sale pitch to replace the units. They recommend replacements on every unit just based on the age of the unit. I typically get at least 3 or 4 estimates for replacements and GAC prices were about 40% higher than the highest estimate I've gotten so far. Stay away! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I hired GAC to replace an AC unit and do routine maintenance on 6 other units (different properties). The technicians are really good. They were polite, they were on time, did an excellent job with the installation, the end results were clean, and really knew their stuff. It would have been a 5 star review if I was reviewing the skill of their technicians. But these are the things that went wrong: 1. Their routine maintenance policy is to recommend replacement. On every single house, every single AC unit, the techs recommended that the AC needs to be replaced now before it breaks down. Their reasoning was "this unit is old and past the manufacturer's warranty", and then followed up by doing sales tactics along the lines of telling me about AC breaking down in 100+ degrees weather, or heat pump breaking down w/ 20" of snow (all used the same memorized line, it was kinda funny). If I were to follow their recommendation, I would have spent more than $50,000 replacing perfectly fine units, and the new ones would have been past their warranty by now. 2. When I actually did need to replace a unit on a rental property, they REALLY tried to oversell. For a small one bedroom condo, they recommended this huge unit that was large/powerful enough to handle a 4 bedroom single family home. At the price of almost $10,000. Their quote was more than double the price of every other company. At that time I had no option but to go w/ GAC because their company was approved my the HOA, and if I were to use any other company, I should have gone through the HOA approval process which would have added a month (& I wanted to fix the house and rent it out before the end of summer). 3. At that time they were offering 12 Month 0% interest on new units, which was through a Mariner Financing. The application and payment process were smooth. Fast forward, a year later, when the account is paid off, I'm refinancing another house and have a glance at my credit report. That was when I found out they pulled my credit twice (Hard Pull). They ran it once when I applied, and once when the work was done. I called Mariner to inquire about it, and I was told GAC entered the application twice, and that's why it happened. I did call GAC afterwards, but I gave up shortly considering I was not going to give my full name and SS# to a receptionist who doesn't know the difference between a hard pull and soft pull, and have her write it on a sticky note and wait for her supervisor to call me back. 4. Depending on their work flow (or time of the year), their office staff can be super nice, or plain rude. If you sign up for a yearly maintenance, which includes 2 routine maintenance, they talk as if they are doing you a huge favor by doing a FREE maintenance. They never realize that it's not free, they are provide what you paid for several months in advance. 5. They change your maintenance appointment date/time the last second by leaving you a voicemail. The strangest one that sadly happened multiple times "Mr. XXXXX, you have an appointment scheduled for this afternoon at XXXX, but the technician is not available at that time, so we moved your appointment to this morning at XXXX (in 30 minutes)". No apologies, not asking to call back or even caring if I'm available or I can make it to a house in Maryland in 30 minutes. read more

We had a new system installed in our home in July 2015 as a result of our 30 year old system finally giving in. The technicians were wonderful and the service was great but BUYER BEWARE with financing such a large purchase. GAC gave the option to finance our new system for 12 months with no interest through Mariner Finance. We made the mistake of going this route which cost us an extra $540 dollars as a result. GAC issued the loan and gave us a "guidance document" to fill out he forms. Once we fill out the forms, GAC completes the loan and sends to Mariner Finance. The guidance document and forms for the loan were completely misleading, and while i thought I was complying with the terms of the loan, we ended up being charged interest. When bringing this issue to GAC, they acknowledged it was misleading, that they were sorry and would offer us free membership to their service club for a year, but would not return the money that was stolen from us. When I suggested that GAC should take more responsibility for the loan they were selling they claimed it was a "tall order" to expect them to install the system AND be knowledgeable and forthcoming about the loan they were selling. The process is completely predatory and it hurts my feelings to say I will never use their company again. I really felt in good hands with GAC in my home and with doing business with them regarding the loan. I wasn't as discerning as I should have been. So be on your toes! They aren't in it for you. read more

My wife and I just used GAC to do HVAC repairs which were the result of a home inspection for a house sale. Not only were they courteous and professional, they disagreed with some of the inspector's "dings" to our system and suggested repairs. Had they only wanted money I doubt GAC would have done that and would have completed and charged for the unneeded work. Technician Edmund was great and did a fantastic job explaining the issues and quickly and professionally completed the needed fixes. I plan to use GAC again in the new house and hope all their technicians are as friendly and helpful. read more

We used GAC's electrical service recently and was extremely disappointed in the level of service, professionalism of the technicians and the subsequent customer service. Their service is severely overpriced and when they left the work wasn't even complete. As other reviewers have said, their service may be going down hill. My AC was blowing cool air but would never reach the set temperature. Having used GAC before I called them immediately. The serviceman immediately assessed a leak that froze the line up. Instead of lying or charging me out the wazoo he suggested I wait a day for it to thaw and call the manufacturer because it was probably still under warranty; which I had no idea. I did and they fixed the problem the next day at no cost. For the honesty and courtesy of the serviceman I would give this 5 stars if not for the fact that GAC still charges $100+ just to show up. I understand they run a business and time is money, but $100+ for five minutes of just looking around doesn't seem right. If anything it taught me to call my AC installer next time instead of GAC. read more

I had GAC come out for a squeaking blower fan motor in my A/C unit. The repairman looked at the system and stated that the blower motor would be $1000 to replace, which I could not believe. He then realized the fan on my outside condenser unit was not turning, and quickly concluded the capacitor for the unit was bad. He was able to replace it on the spot and the problem was resolved. My issue with this company is that they charged me $299 for a capacitor which I found out retails everywhere for $15, and 10 minutes of labor. When I called a couple of days later to speak to a manager, I was told this was a "flat rate" WHICH I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT BEFORE and if I was on their "service plan" for $99/year I would have received a 20% discount! Additionally, I was told if I elected to purchase a brand new system through them now (at $7,000 - $10,000) they would deduct the $299 since they would be getting their capacitor back. My total bill for this quick fix was $388. The additional charge was for the diagnosis, which is not in dispute (I expect to pay $100 for any service company to come out to diagnose an issue and provide a quote). I understand that GAC needs to make a profit, and would expect a reasonable markup on the wholesale cost of parts, however, a 1900% markup is outrageous. I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau, and filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs. In response to GAC's comment: I have a problem with your "vision." First of all it makes it obvious that you are all about the company and not the clients. At NO point during my lengthy conversation with management was it discussed, or even brought up, how this issue could be resolved. There was absolutely no interest in attempting to fix the problem but only to either now sell me a service plan, or a new $10,000 system. The other problem with your vision is that it insults the many other contractors out there that we have had a great rapport with for many years. They have managed to provide quality service and fair pricing, while somehow still managing to keep their employees and their families happy. Perhaps your vision could use some corrective lenses. I made an appointment for a service call. My heat pump was not working. I was told that they will send senior technician . When the technician came he checked gas pressure and said there is no gas in your system and pressure is absolutely zero and you need to change the whole system. I knew the system was working fine until 3 hours before the call . I got second opinion and found out that the gas pressure was a little bit low not completely empty as they told me. With the second opinion . I found out my system is good and only need small Refrigerant charge. Either they are crooks or they are incompetent This company tried to sell me new system and their technician even senior one are not competent at all. Stay away from them. read more

This was the first time using GAC and it was a great experience. Eric came out to the house on a Monday to give us an estimate for replacing a very old unit that had stopped working. The next day a tech came out to do the measurements for installing the new unit. On Wednesday morning the team of Matt, Carlos and Marlone did the installation and in about 3.5 hours and the new unit was up and running. We bought a house with a 24 year old furnace and air conditioner knowing that we would have to replace them soon after we bought the house. Instead of waiting until they actually broke I decided to shop around while they were still functioning. I called four different companies to come give me quotes and see what they thought I needed. From the moment the first representative from GAC walked in the door I was impressed (Fritz). He explained everything he thought was needed and gave us tips for dealing with heating and cooling a split level house. Our quote was emailed to us in 24 hours and gave us three different options of equipment. Other companies came by and I mentioned things that Fritz had seen and they thought they were all good ideas and would later incorporate them into the quotes (none actually realized the issues on their own). GAC's quotes were all in the same ballpark as the other companies but the professionalism and attention to detail is what sold me. We signed the contract and had a second employee come out about a week before the job was to start to take measurements and answer any questions I had. I forget this mans name but he was equally professional and knowledgable. On the day of the install the crew of about 5 members showed up first thing in the morning. They were all friendly, professional, and more than willing to answer any questions I had. I left them to their work and within 6 hours my new air conditioner and furnace were installed. You would not have known they were even there with their amazing clean up job. The lead technician went through the paper work with me, showed me around the new units, and trained me on my new wifi enabled thermostat. They even took care of sending in the rebates for Pepco for me. I knew that choosing GAC was the right decision when I signed the contract and the company proved me right. Excellent company. I have always been happy with their punctuality and professionalism. We needed service beyond our regular maintenance check up and were quoted our price. I have been using GAC for over a decade. I pay for the yearly service plan which includes seasonal check ups (AC in spring and heater in fall). While that doesn't mean we won't have an issue that requires additional costs, I have only had that once in 15 years of owning the home. They explain their prices and they are always on time for their time window. In addition, I often get a phone call 15-30 minutes out giving a specific time the technician will arrive. They are about the customer. That is why I've never looked at using anyone else. read more
