    Back of restaurant ordering counter

Since our favorite road-trip location wasn't open, I found the next best option for a cheesesteak in NJ. This was a small restaurant & we were the only ones in there at 1:15pm. Very cute beach-themed decor; plus Christmas of course. There's lot to see and read from past awards and funny signs posted about. I loved the old school game shows playing on the television. I ordered fries and the mini cheesesteak w/provolone, lettuce, onion, oil & vinegar, no tomato. I thought the onions would be sautéed with the steak, but they were raw (WARNING - slightly strong). My hubby ordered a "WHIZ WITHOUT - that's a cheesesteak with cheese whiz (that's all that's on it). My stepson ordered "WHIZ WITH" - that comes with the sautéed onions and cheese whiz. All subs are served on a delicious toasted sesame hoagie. Man! The taste of toasted sesame!! Mmmm!!! The steak was very good (only a couple of bites of gristle) and the mini was very stuffed and satisfying to any hunger level. We'd definitely return if ever in the area again. Thank you for the delicious lunch.

Probably the worst cheesesteak I've had Meat was dry hardly any cheese and it was super salty.

In town for work and looking for something other than a chain. Found this place and was intrigued. Got a large 17" mushroom, onion and extra cheese with cheese fries. This place is legit. One of the best cheesesteaks I've ever eaten. The lady working was nice and we had a great conversation while she cooked. In all the craziness in the world it's good to know there are still some good people out there. This is a small family owned business I was happy to support. If I'm ever in the area, I will stop here again.

Gaetano's (Gypsy's) is the latest of a string of restaurants to open at this location over the past decades. (My all time favorite restaurant, Shank's, was here in the '70s and '80s, and since their departure nothing has been nearly as good.) Gaetano's is fundamentally a cheesesteak joint with a few other options. Their take on the traditional "steak" is to offer many additions to put into the basic sandwich in the form of sauces, veggies, and sesame covered long rolls. They also offer three size rolls from about 7" to 12". If my Mini was any example, they are all stuffed to the gills with meat, cheese, and whatever else you wanted. I had a Mini Jersey Chicken Steak with Onions, Mushrooms, Potatoes, Green Peppers, Hot Peppers and BBQ Sauce. It was huge and filling. The taste was what you would expect from that combination of ingredients. I liked it, but did not fall in love with it. There are a few downsides to take into account. First, the room was chilly when I was there on a January afternoon. It made for some discomfort in sitting there as I could not remove my jacket to really relax with the meal. Second, they did not have eggplant for my first choice eggplant parm. sandwich. Third, they used French Fries as the potato portion of the sandwich. They had been frozen and were mealy. Not good. Fourth, although I was the only patron in the place, and the two guys behind the counter were not doing anything but sitting there, they did not bring the sandwich to me, but just called out the name of the sandwich. I didn't mind the walk back to the counter after ordering and sitting down with my drink, but a little customer service in those circumstances would have shown appreciation for my business. Didn't happen. If asked my prognostication of the success of Gaetano's, I would venture to say that it would not make it at this location given the level of service, price, competition and environmental discomforts. We will have to wait and see.

Average cheesesteak sandwich with a heavy price, simply wouldn't recommend based on food quality and portion.

Hamilton, New Jersey has been waiting for salvation, or at least for something new to eat. For…read moreweeks, cars have lined up in the shoulder of Route 33 like pilgrims on a fried chicken crusade, all of them seeking enlightenment in a red and yellow shrine called Dave's Hot Chicken. Naturally, I had to see what the fuss was about. I ordered takeout because the cars stretched past the entrance way like a metal conga line led by hunger and curiosity . The object of my investigation was Dave's Sliders with fries. The sliders arrived on little potato buns, as if each were the pride of a humble Idaho farmer, topped with kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's sauce. And reader, they were beautiful. Everything worked in harmony. The crisp of the chicken, the brightness of the slaw, the subtle rebellion of the pickles. I chose the "medium" spice level, which turned out to be about as dangerous as a well-mannered librarian. Next time I will go "hot," maybe even "reaper," because if I am going to suffer, I would rather it be for art or poultry. Now, as for the mac and cheese: tragedy, pure and simple. It tasted as though it had been boiled in a space-age pouch, the kind of food that might be served in the afterlife if the afterlife were a public-school cafeteria. It was mac and cheese that had given up on its dreams. Still, the name of the place is Dave's Hot Chicken, not Dave's Existentially Redeemed Macaroni. The chicken was excellent, and that is what matters. So I will give Dave's four stars out of five, because perfection is a myth, and because next time I intend to burn just a little brighter.

I'm puzzled by the low ratings this establishment receives on the internet. Online reviews suggest…read morethat people are very difficult creatures to satisfy. I entered the Jersey Mike's in Hamilton Square because their chicken salad sub had made one of its brief, limited-time appearances. When this specific mixture of chopped poultry and mayonnaise returns to the menu, I feel a strange personal obligation to consume it before it vanishes back into the corporate ether. The three young men working behind the counter were bantering cheerfully with one another. They were not putting on a fake performance of corporate enthusiasm. They genuinely seemed to enjoy existing in the same room. Nobody appeared miserable. Nobody was staring into the fluorescent lighting pondering the futility of human labor. They were simply three adolescents having a good time while wrapping food in butcher paper. My sandwich was constructed quickly and correctly. The chicken salad was cold, creamy, and properly seasoned, which is everything one can reasonably ask of dead bird on a roll. The entire transaction was pleasantly uneventful. Central New Jersey is a dangerous territory in which to evaluate a sandwich. We are surrounded by independent delis operated by fiercely competitive humans who will happily debate the structural integrity of a hoagie roll for an hour. Jersey Mike's is a massive corporate franchise born on the Jersey Shore, so it does not possess the soul of a family corner store. Yet sometimes one does not want an adventure. Sometimes you simply want predictable consistency and a limited-run chicken salad sub. For that purpose, this Hamilton location performed its duty with unexpected grace.

Tons of hot sauce thrown on top of the chicken cheesesteak with TONS of blue cheese. Nothing else. No lettuce. No tomatoes. No nothing. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen and eaten.
