Was in Galveston for the weekend and was talked into going to Gaidos for lunch on Saturday. I've eaten there before on a previous vacation and was not impressed. Yuck. I ordered a Chicken caesar salad and received salad dressing with some wilted lettuce mixed in. I know I should have ordered the dressing on the side but it was still drenched with dressing. Couldn't find our waitress anywhere so after about 7 minutes grabbed the nearest person that worked there and their solution was to bring me a small plate of some lettuce untouched by dressing. I also ordered a top shelf Margarita and received some syrup mixed with water. Very disappointed and will never go back. read more

Gaido's is a restaurant with a long history on Galveston. The old photos are nice to look at while you wait. The Ceaser salad needed pepper. Freshly ground was not offered so used the table pepper. Everyone in our party was pleased with the quality of their entrees but wish they had been sized a little more realisticaly; no one wanted to take fish leftovers home. The deserts were fine but nothing spectacular. In all fairness, no one had the pecan pie, which has been excellent in the past. I'm surprised by the review average for this great restaurant!!! I've been two or three times, and it's just been wonderful. I've eaten their pasta, my boyfriend absolutely loves the seafood (his favorite is fresh oysters!), and their bread is unique and delicious. What you HAVE to try is the french toast. I think it's only available certain hours, but it's amazing! They make it out of banana bread, and it has mascarpone and fresh berries on top. No joke, it's the best thing I've ever eaten. read more

I was in Town with Family and they decided to take us here. We entered and was told it would be approximately an hour wait. We were seated and greeted by our waiter Joseph., who was extremely friendly. He explained the feature dish, blacken tile fish with lump crab meat( excellent meal a must get I highly recommend) Joseph was extremely knowledgeable the feature dish. We received our food and it was wonderful. I have been to a lot of restaurants and never experienced the exceptional service provided by Joseph, who was always smiling, and made our dining experience wonderful. I tried to describe our dessert and when he interrupted again I said you are not listening to my description. He said I was being rude and walked off and would not give me his name. I believe upon being ask about the dessert his response could have been - what were you expecting, describe the dessert you received anything but his rude and condescending remarks. And yes I have been going to Gaidos since childhood so I know what the dessert selection is. We ordered Pecan roll and received scoops of vanilla ice cream in a sundae bowl with chocolate sauce and pecans on top. This is not a ball of ice cream rolled in pecans served on a plate with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top. Joe had the chance to provide customer service and for the second time with our party he was again rude and condescending. Too many wonderful restaurants with friendly hospitality staff to be subjected to this repeatedly. Gaidos please address this person representing your establishment. Went on Friday night, just 2 of us. Thought we'd have a long wait, only about 10 minutes though. Fancy ambiance without feeling pretentious. Waiter Max was excellent. Answered all our questions and was super attentive. Food was out of this world. I had crab stuffed shrimp with a baked potato. Hubby had Famous Fried Platter. He said it was fried to perfection, not greasy at all, nice portion size. We shared a crème brûlée for dessert. Holy moly, the best we've ever had. Very nice dinner and didn't break the bank. I've been wanting to try out this recipe for years. My parents took me here for my birthday and the food was delicious! They first delivered bread to our table and poured out olive oil for dipping. I loved the bread. It was warm and soft with a peppery bite. I ordered a dinner salad, the fried shrimp with parmesan tomatoes. My mom and I ordered potatoes au gratin. Everything was fresh and delicious. I loved the light batter on the shrimp and they were not greasy at all, even thought they had been fried. Since it was my birthday, we ordered the famous pecan pie to share. It came out warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was fabulous. The waiter was good and we were seated right on time. The appetizer was very good (wish it was what the entire meal had been), my husband and oldest son enjoyed their food. My youngest son and I both ate shrimp and I believe got food poisoning. I didn't appreciate spending half the night in the bathroom and then getting up at midnight to make sure my son was making it to the toilet to throw up. We've eaten here before and enjoyed it but I would rather not pay $48 for food poisoning. I just didn't expect this out of a nice restaurant. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in Galveston. The tables are always set. The seafood is fresh. 4th generation uses the same family recipes when Gaido's opened over 100 years ago! The service is personal and the best you will find in Texas. I have been going to Gaido's for 35 years. (Since I was a teenager.) I continue to go every time I am in Galveston. They also have a nice gift shop inside the restaurant. You will find something for yourself or for you favorite child. No cheap made gifts here but reasonably priced. Gaido's in on the Seawall and you can get a table looking at the gulf waters as you eat. There isn't a bad table in the house. read more

We were slightly confused when we first pulled up because of the hotel to the right of it, but figured it out shortly after. There was no wait to be seated. Our waitress was so friendly, and helpful. This is a great restaurant for a special treat. We only had one complaint and that was the poor demeanor of the host. Maybe just a bad day, but he seemed very put off that we would be checking on our table. We had a very long wait about an hour sometimes no one else in the lobby. The gift shop was a least a good way to distract from that. After that, the food, atmosphere and wait staff were spectacular. The waiter asked if we had been there before and since it was our first time he spent a little time telling us about the fascinating history of the restaurant. The tables have white tablecloths beautiful table settings and the decor is timelessly elegant. The food was eaten slowly to savor this experience as long as possible. From the bread to the end it was all delicious! My husband liked his platter of fried seafood but I would avoid the place if you happen to be gluten free. I ordered my plate gluten free and the chef interpreted it as no seasoning, not even salt and pepper. It was bad enough I sent it back and didn't eat. Our experience was very disappointing! It started out well...We stopped in on Tuesday night for a menu and to inquire about reservations for Wednesday. The hostess happily supplied the menu and informed us reservations would not be needed. Upon arrival at 6:45 Thursday, the "maitre d" (as he arrogantly called himself) inquired about our reservations. Ugh. Not having one, we were informed there would be a 30 minute wait (although tables were available). We decided to wait and attempted to order drinks. The bartender never appeared (he was pulling double-duty as a waiter). When asked why they were so under-staffed, the "maitre d" rudely stated that staffing was based on reservations. We left. Seems like the Tuesday staff needs to be informed that Wednesday's staffing is based on reservations. read more

I believe I can tell the difference between Gulf Shrimp, which I truly love and the shrimp that comes from the polluted waters off southeast asia. The southeast asian shrimp has the taste of iodine which I find nauseating. Either the B.P. spill has so polluted the Gulf that there is no longer a difference, or Gaido's is now using the cheapest shrimp available. In either case do not order the shrimp unless you have a strong stomach. read more

I went to this restaurant a few weeks ago and the food and service was amazing and would highly recommend to anyone going to Galveston, but I would like to directly point out how amazing their costumer service is! I actually left one of my belongings at the restraunt and didn't even realize that I had left it there until I was in the car about half way home. I called them and they have been so understanding and nice about it and have kept my belonging so that when I soon return can retrieve it!
