A small hole in wall serving Thai staples in downtown Oakland. The Thai style chicken and rice with steamed white and dark meat is my staple. Simple, filling and fair pricing for what you get compared to some other joints around the bay. Their broth tasted amazing the first time I went with a great and clean chicken flavor but the second go around was a bit water down. Regardless though the rice and chicken was on point as always. I'm so dumb, I live like 3 blocks from here and I've been meaning to check out this place for awhile now and I'm SO GLAD I finally did. I ordered online and it was ready in about 10-or-so minutes. I got the khao soi, which was phenomenal at mild spiciness (which I gussied up to a lower-medium spicy with the little container they provided). Gainoi's menu offers many options. We ordered the Imperial Crispy egg rolls appetizer and the #17 Khao Man Gai Yang BBQ chicken over rice. We felt the portions were perfect and not too small or too large, for the price. We wine selection was also varied enough to offer most people what they want: rose, white, or red, by the bottle or by the glass and also fairly priced! The food quality was very good, the restaurant is spacious and very clean. We loved speaking with the family who runs and operates this restaurant, which added a personal note to the dining experience. This place is only about two block la from The Fox Theater. Do not let the small space fool you! This is one of my favorite go-to places whenever I come to Oakland, It's it right on the 19th st. Oakland bart. The food's quality and quantity are splendid. The interiority is cozy, and the servers/owner are beyond friendly. They will recommend you and make sure that you will be served with great food. My favorites are Crispy Chicken Skin and Khao Man Gai Yang, which is BBQ grilled chicken over ginger garlic jasmine rice. Also, Pad Thai Hor Khai (Egg Omelet Wrap Pad Thai) They are so delish! The green curry was sooo delicious! We walked in to order our take out and when I asked how spicy the curry was, they let me try the sauce for the green and yellow curry! Both were so warming and delicious. Since my coworker was getting the yellow, I got the green curry with brown rice. It fed me twice! Looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu! My co-worker and I tried this place for the first time. They messed up our order and gave my co-worker the wrong food. My co-worker didn't say anything since they were busy during the lunch hour. She was fine with the food they gave her. The staff their realized their error and came to our table with the correct order to go without us asking. This was excellent customer service. Okay, now about the food. EXCELLENT!!! The garlic ginger rice is everything!!! If the rice was all there was available I would still be happy and satisfied, but luckily, they have so much more. The rice came in the Khao Man Gai (traditional). The fried tofu was soft and savory. Do yourself a favor and get some crispy chicken skin. With the influx of so many Thai restaurants that all taste the same, finally a gem. The pineapple fried rice had a tinge of curry flavor and was stellar. And a Khao soi that delivered... rare to find this dish, let alone done fantastic. This one is on heavy rotation along with Yimm and Pintoh for us. Ps not really an eat in type of place. Flimsy plastic silverware and fast food vibe. But the food is really good so get it to go. read more

3.5* Ordered Basil Chicken, it was decent, however not any juice left over from the cooking and I didn't like the quality of chicken they used. I thought the yellow curry with chicken was very good. The dish came with a generous serving of steamed rice (I believe jasmine rice and noodles are available alternatives). I ordered it medium spicy, which was about right. I could definitely taste the spice but it wasn't at all overwhelming. The prices are reasonable. The server did her best to answer my questions; I think there was a bit of a language issue, but this wasn't a problem. As others noted, the place is tiny. You pick up the knives, forks, napkins etc. and take them to your table or carry them out with takeout. I will eat here again when in the area. read more

I ordered takeout khao man gai and mango sticky rice and it was delicious! The sauces that go with the khao man gai were so falvorful and added so much depth to the dish. The mango sticky rice was also super good. The coconut sauce was sweet with a hint of saltiness to balance out the dish, and although mangos are not in season right now, the mangoes were still sweet. I would come back here and order something else on the menu because I would want to try what else they have :) read more

My only regret is not trying this place sooner! I don't know why because this is authentic Thai food, with authentic thai spice. My credentials - I've been to Thailand and the food is the best I've had since! The Thai basil fried rice was so delicious and I got it Thai spicy which the server was skeptical about but I had no regrets because this was true to its word --Thai spicy!! I also tried the chicken katsu and the chicken was cooked really well and it was good meat (not chewy that I've experienced with katsu). I can't say enough good things about Gai Noi's food. It's superb. For only having 2 people working there at any one time, I would say that the service is great! It may take a little bit longer to get your food if they are really super busy. But believe me, it is well worth the wait. And if you are having trouble wondering what's good. Stop wondering, it's all great! Just ask the lovely girl behind the counter what she suggests and she will not steer you wrong (trust her, she's never wrong, I totally trust her, she's also my wife LoL). I really like the space that the restaurant is in. It gives it that hidden gem feel. There's not that many tables, but if I'm there , I would be much obliged if you would like to sit down and let me share my table with you. What's better than having great food? Having great conversations while you're eating great food. I've been working learning more Thai as well. Shhhh... I haven't told my wife yet. Saw this place hiding in the side of 19th st and decided to check it out. Had the khao man gai and it was absolutely delicious. The sauce amazing and it came with broth on the side and a little side salad. Did jot expect this quality level of food from a takeout place. Nice cozy restaurant with delicious Thai food I ordered the basil chicken I got it made very mild, but it still had enough kick in It served over steam rice. it did hit the spot packed with so much flavor. I really enjoyed it. I just wish I would've gotten the rice separately so all the spicy juice didn't get into my rice . I also ordered the egg rolls which were very soggy inside. It did say it filled with noodles, taro and vegetables, but it was still soggy all five pieces did not have any noodles or taro in there. It was just soggy vegetables kind of comparing it to panda express spring roll. Came across this restaurant spontaneously and decided to give it a try. I am very glad that we did! The food was hot and fresh, the lady was also super sweet and nice while taking my order. We ordered the pad Thai and pineapple fried rice and I must say both were amazing dishes. The Thai tea was also yummy, I love when it's a little on the sweeter side which this was. Small, clean restaurant with a single cook making tasty food to order right in front of you. I had basil chicken which I often make at home and I am often critical of restaurant's versions. This, however, was similar to how I make my version. I will return soon to try some other dishes. read more

I found this place a couple of weeks ago and have eaten there twice since. The Pad Thai was the best I have had in this area. The ingredients are not mixed together like spaghetti. I also had the Tom Yum which was awesome. I had never had it before and it was good. Highly recommend it. Much better than Take It Easy Thai. read more

The location is a bit nondescript on 19th Street in Oakland. The menus are colorful and easy to read. We had the fried calamari, crab fried rice, chicken broth, egg omelet wrap pad thai , sticky rice and house made bottled Thai tea. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Delicious quick bite. Hubs and I got the fried chicken and the coconut curry noodle soup. The soups broth was so flavorful. We ended up putting the chicken and rice into the broth and it was amazing. He got the iced coffee and I got the fresh coconut water and it was a terrific quick meal. read more

best freaking sweet sticky mango rice!!! omggggggg im so happy i finished it within 5 minutes it was excellent!!!!
