i like their vietnamese iced coffee. its very strong and not too sweet. but their green bean and some kind of weird jelly drink is not worth a try. green bean is made from powder and taste too powdery. the jelly drink taste very unsual and the texture is just weird!! parking is very hard to find. all the aggressive asian drivers will give you a really hard time to find parking and stay patient at the same time. service is not so great!! slightly higher price. $2.50 for all drinks and $18 for half gallon of green bean drink. read more

In the morning and you are in a hurry? I would definitely stop by this place everyday when given a chance, this place opens up at six o' clock in the morning. The owners have perfected cafe sua da by making sure the coffee does not overpower the milk and the whipped cream adds that extra butteriness to the drink. If sandwiches is more your style, they have this banh mi thit nguoi that is amazing. You can taste the butter in the bread and the meat is perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. However, I try to avoid pate when it is made with pork but in this case, Gala's pate is made with duck liver, oh yum!!! One drawback and it is because of the small size of the store (my closet is bigger), their food selection is limited to sandwiches, some steam pork rolls and steamed rice cakes. Almost ate my hand once gobbling up one of these tasty pate chaud. The meat filling is really good, seasoned to perfection, & they should consider putting just a bit more meat filling in there. The coffee here is really good as well but not much of a coffee drinker. My friend Yelp searched "watermelon juice" in the Westminster area, and we were somehow led to Gala Bakery. They don't have watermelon juice. The only 3 beverage options were iced coffee, Orangina, and some bean drink. We settled for iced coffee. My friend and I were both happy about this happenstance. It's premade, already poured into a cup of ice, with a straw stuck in it, and the lady just takes it out of the fridge when you order. But what a delicious cup of non-fresh iced coffee it was. It reminded me of Korean coffee: weak, and lightly sweetened, but coffee in Korea has a particular flavor I can't describe. Just wish they offered more sizes. Iced coffee $2.50 here really packs a punch. It's strong, and so when u drink it slowly, while waiting for the ice to melt, you feel that the coffee is endless. re: iced coffee it's like CRACK, meaning, you want more and more. cup has too much ice most of the time to me but it's all prepped already so you cant have them take it out. My mom and dad love this place so I kind of grew up with it. Haven't had a sandwich since I went vegan, so a few years ago. My parents would always get a box of cream puffs for my class on my birthday when I was in elementary school. Being the only asian in class, none of the kids have tried these before. Everyone loved it though. Flaky on the outside and lots of cream custard goodness on the inside. They have the best cream puffs ever. I wish they had vegan ones I can eat now! I really don't like to give 1 star reviews, but my experience here was terrible. I came here 9 am on a sunday, and I asked for an iced coffee. $2.50. Decent price. As i was paying, i noticed that the cup had some "white smoke" on the top of the lid. Suspicious, but I still bought it. I had high expectations when I heard this was "the best cafe sua da around" and as I drank it...it was pretty terrible. I've been going around OC, mainly anaheim, garden grove and westminster for new places. Every single time I went to a new place, the iced coffee were "wet", daily made. This place froze the iced coffee from yesterday and actually had the nerve to sell it again. I love their iced coffee here! It's your typical vietnamese iced coffee with an extra hint of hazelnut flavor. I don't how many espresso shots they put in each cup but it'll keep you wired, enough to get you through the day. Just make sure you sip and savor this drink. It's not the type of drink you inhale or gulp as fast as you can. Let the ice melt a little and enjoy the yummy goodness. It's sweet but I love sweet coffee! I'm sure you can get it black if you'd like but I've never tried that. Their pate chaud is also pretty good. Pate chaud is a French pastry with a flaky, croissant-like outside and a meat filling inside. You can choose either chicken or pork. It's tasty and bite sized, good as a snack or party appetizer. My friend has preordered for a party before. Downside is that it's in the heart of Little Saigon, so on the weekend, it's an adventure getting to this plaza and finding parking once you're there. read more

Ok today I had their sandwiches. I must like this place if I came back right? yes, so don't get me wrong about this place. The texture and taste of these sandwiches stood on their own. They have this really unique smooth texture bread thats unlike any sandwich place around here. Last i had something like this was in Newport Beach but an american joint. Banh Mi Ga (chicken salad sandwich) instead of sloppy hand picked meat with random bones, tendons and occasional workers hair, you had a very smoothly chopped breast meat mixed in their own recipe mayo. It was like American what you get at an American deli, yet the texture and quality still seemed very French. Banh Mi Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork Sandwich) The meat has a smooth txture here too. I guess everything tastes smooth? I don't know how else to describe it. Its clean, kosher and tasted refined. I like other bbq meat better like that bulgogi , but this wasn't bad. The veggies were laid out neatly on both sandwiches, not tossed carelessly. I decided to rate this place on a weighted score. Theres things to be improved like the availability of foods, the hours being limited The reason it loses one star is because there was only 2 sandwiches left at 5 o clock. I guess they close at 6 and you it's not a dinner place. So that takes it off half a star. The other half star is because it was $2.25 per sandwich. (50-75c some places) But since it tasted distinct, refined and packed nicely and a lot better than Che Cali it was worth the price. Anyways, if you're up in the morning or want a quick lunch, Gala is a good stop for the few but good things they have. I liked everything so far except the creme puffs. read more

Ahhh the original Gala Bakery. This location has been here since what the 80's? 90's? Does it matter? This place still OWNS. Hands down the best Vietnamese Cafe in all of Orange County! I can have one of these bad boys every morning and be awake past midnight. It's SERIOUS BUSINESS. No Need for 5 Hour energy drinks at all those things can't hang with these dudes. Went to this place very excited. I read an article about it in a magazine. They are famous for their Vietnamese iced coffee. When I got there. Nobody was behind the counter, and it took about 5 minutes for someone to take my order. I gleefully requested the famous iced coffee. She said ok, and handed me a pre-made iced coffee as I paid the $3. Disappointed to find out their famous Vietnamese coffee is pre-made. By the time I drank it, the ice melted. I've been eating at Gala for over 10 years, and it's still consistently serving yummy banh mi sandwiches. I'm old school and like the traditional chicken sandwich, which is kind of like American chicken salad with shredded pieces of chicken mixed with mayo & flavored with soy sauce, instead of the grilled chicken which is bigger pieces marinated in the same flavorful seasonings as the grilled pork or beef. The baquettes here are super fresh, which really makes the sandwich. Banh mi has a tendency to go light on protein, heavy on the veggies of marinated carrot, fresh cucumber & cilantro, so having good bread is critical. For $2.50 a sandwich, this is definitely value for your hard-earned moolah. read more

Heard about this place thru my coworker, she too praised the green sauce, so I had to come and check this place out, since I'm in OC and this is banh mi heartland. Yes, I know there's Lee's and it's great for what it is but I need variety. Of course, the first time I went was a Monday, which did me no good since they're not open that day. So I went to check it out this week and ordered their chicken and pate banh mi. Their banh mi is a bit smaller than other places that I go, the bread/baguette could have been better and I didn't see any green sauce. (Did I order the wrong banh mi?) Also ordered a cream puff, which was just okay, the cream wasn't anything memorable and nope it can't compare to Beard Papa's. The staff was nice and gave me discount on my meal. YAY! Got a slice of their fruit tart, and it was really good. The slice is $2.75. What made it so good was the crust, which was really light and flaky. It didn't seem to have as much fruit as another slice I got elsewhere, but the crust was definitely the winner. I also got their Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($2.50), which is very strong. I would have preferred to have it a tad bit sweeter, though. I was curious to see how much they charged for 1/2 a sheet of the fruit tart, but I did not see any prices on their menu for it, nor did I see whole tarts in the display. This place probably has the best pate chaud I ever had. I had it a year ago and I still can't forget how it tastes. That I searched high and low for this place. The dough they use is so much better. It's very nice and flaky after you have one you just want more. The size is a little bigger than the smaller round shape ones this one is more of a rectangle. I'm a total fan of Gala bakery. Whenever I'm craving a Vietnamese sangwich, the Banh Mi Cha Lua hits the spot. I live close enough to Bolnsa so I have many options when it comes to a good sandwich shop but through the years, I've stuck by Gala and keep coming back for more. They have a pastry window and I frequent Gala enough to advise for you not to ever buy any of these treats. I don't think they are the freshest of pastries so you should probably stick to the stuff outside the glass windows. i swear i wrote a review for gala already...but i guess not. almost the number one coffee around bolsa! the "body" of the coffee is great! not too thick. it has a lot of cream that makes it easier to drink. it's not one of those cafe sua da's that you have to wait until the ice melts. light and sweet. one more thing, i love the cream puffs here! read more

Curiousity got the best of me and I had to try this place. A little disappointed when I read all the great comments about the coffee but when I get there, I see the guy pouring it from a pitcher. It wasn't too sweet and didn't have a gritty flavor that comes from the usual instant mix variety, but the flavor was weak. And that is just unheard of when it comes to Cafe su da. The ice cubes didn't even have a chance to melt, but it was lacking that deep flavor. Pate chaud were good, not greasy, had a nice flaky crunch and the meat was still moist in the middle. BBQ pork banh mi was also good. Radioactive red meat, packed with veggies all surrounded by a baguette that maintains its crunch. Much better than the place down the road that resembles an old school taco bell, but that isn't saying much (I'll still go here because I'm a cheapskate). read more

Never ever again would I come to an establishment that doesn't care about service! I would not recommend this so called bakery to anyone. The reviews for this place is bogus. They have few baked goods. I purchased cream puffs, egg rolls, pâté chaud - All of which was tossed into paper bags. I asked if the mass amount of baked goods could be placed in a box. The insufficient man behind the counter replied NO. I see many boxes behind him. He blatantly tossed the items into each bag. When I told him that the cream puffs were piling onto to each other and squashed - he moved them around with tongs and gave them to me. I have never encountered such a rude manner at a restaurant. He really didn't care if anyone bought anything. He definitely indicated that he hated his job. Coffee was filled to the brim with ice. Completely watered down.
