After the movies, our group of 7 decided to eat here on a Friday night. It was the least crowded and we were able to get a seat right away. As we walked in, the place felt a bit warm, but it was nicely decorated. Anyways, we sat down and ordered our food. I ordered the pad see ew which tasted alright. Nothing specular or made my taste buds jump for joy, however the other 6 enjoyed their food. But the reason why we wouldn't return back is their service. They weren't straight up rude, but they were oblivious and unapologetic to what horrible service they provided. For starters we had to ask for our own water refill. My friend didn't get his beer until after his meal was served. Another had to ask for the hot peppers 3 TIMES and when she came back she just put it on the table without saying sorry or even seeming apologetic. We were never rude to them or said anything to them, however we weren't happy and only kept it among ourselves But what started to get us annoyed was the rice situation. A few of us asked for more rice 2 times, after 10 minutes of still not having rice, we asked her again and she said that they ran out and is making it now. So we were like um..okay, fine we'll wait. I mean one of my friend ordered Curry, how do you eat all that curry with one scoop of rice. During that time a different waiter came out and was like oh are you finish, would you like to take your food home. Um...no...we are still waiting for our rice! So 10 minutes have passed and we still are waiting for our extra rice, waitress comes out and was like do you still want rice...UMM YEAH.... So when rice was finally given (again unapologetic and still charged us for the extra rice!), those who were waiting for their rice finished up their meals. Can I also mention that the check came out while others are still finishing up their food. The check came out and they already added an 18% gratuity. Let me tell you I never tip under 20% but this time I was almost pissed enough to tip only 15% (I never tip horrible no matter the service since I use to be a waitress), however since they MADE us pay 18% I didn't dispute it...but gosh we weren't happy. As we left, one of our friends asked the manager (who was standing by his little booth thing that was near our table for most of the night) if this was her first day and he was like no. Our friend was like are you sure, and he responded yes I'm sure. The manager didn't bother to ask why we asked such a question or apologize. But I suspect he knew and still didn't care. All in all service was horrible. So folks unless you are really craving Thai right after the movies, go somewhere else! read more

An overall good Thai restaurant. Pad Thai is good, but honestly the dish is so cliche I'd suggest one of their curries. I almost always get the Pad Prik King. Dishes are a tad overpriced, but I've never left disappointed in what I ordered. Decor is a bit tacky and service is sometimes spotty, but I've never seen it be truly bad. Delivery is slow (ordered through Grubhub), but I thought the thai dishes were good. The pad thai had a great taste, basil fried rice also really great and perfect spice. This place is one of my favorite Thai spots in Northern Virginia. The location is central with ample parking and the ambiance is just right. I have never actually had to wait in line to get in Gale Thai, so that is good thing for someone as impatient as I am. My usual dish is the prad gra prao, which is amazing. It very well may be their best dish. The pricing is reasonable and the service is prompt and courteous. can't say i have ever really had a bad meal there. read more

Super quick delivery, everything was warm, neat, clean, extra utensils and even threw in an extra drink!! Not to mention the food was still hot, ready to be eaten, and delicious as always. Thank you for whom ever took my order and was right to the point (not confused and lost in wards as others are), and thank you to the delivery man who was kind as well. Food is good service sucks. As soon as you step in there is no one to greet you. Waitress didn't fill up glasses with water regularly and treated us like crap. I felt like an abused dog in this place. Bill was 26$. We gave 30$ and she didn't even offer to bring the change back. Yes it was a tip but you have to at least ask if we need a change. Very good Thai food with an extensive menu. Great place to get dinner before or after a movie at the AMC theater across the street. The ambience is nice and the staff is friendly and attentive. Stay away from here! It is impossible to communicate with the waitress. The fish they used for their sashimi was not fresh and did not taste of any quality. Wanted delivery but they have a $20 minimum. Very reasonable prices and very nice inside. There were only two tables seated at 8:00 on a Wednesday night. Really good Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant. Friendly staff. I enjoy their duck and soft shell crab the most. The sushi selection includes the classics and a few of their own variations. Drinks are pretty good. Prices are a little high, but the location right off the metro and next to the theater make it a perfect date night spot. read more

The mantra of this restaurant is quantity over quality. I frequently visit Bankok Golden which is very good at keeping it simple with excellent flavors. Galae Thai however seems to the complete opposite. The food is gigantic portions but it seems hollow. I would say that pretty much sums up Galae Thai. Overwhelming everything but without any soul to it. Upon entering the building you will be bombarded with statues, wall fixtures, and an overwhelming amount of decorations. I think someone said it best on here you feel like your entering an Asian pier 1. We were immediately seated and provided menus. I am not sure who came up with the menu but it was dizzying to say the least, It took me a while to navigate it. I am a big fan of keeping it simple. Staff Slow, Surly Drinks I ordered the Thai Tea which was creamy and good. My wife got a Lychee Martini which tasted like a Lychee Vodka. It was good though so no complaints. My water however tasted like cascade or some other solvent. Not sure if they didn't clean the glass out but it did not taste normal. Food Spring Rolls - Tasted good. Provided a lot. Nam Tok - Huge, Limey, Fresh Looking, Not Spicey, Weak Flavor Vegetable Stir Fry with Meat - Huge, Fresh, Seasoned with maybe a little Garlic. Drunken Noodles - Huge, Way to many Noodles, Flavoring Off If you fit into the fat American demographic then this is the perfect place for you. That this place doesn't even average 4 stars on Yelp is an unconscionable offence both to my taste buds and to taste buds everywhere. And I actually hate the word unconscionable...I'm sorry, but I had no other choice. Yes, this place is in an awkward location (in a strip mall by the AMC Theater across from the Eisenhower Metro), but it's safe an accessible by metro. Beyond that, there's nothing bad to say. Before I get into the nomnomnoms, I have to say a quick word about the decor, which is seriously, really special. I usually don't care too much about atmosphere (I'm there for the food) but...I'm convinced their decorator slipped into the British Museum dangling from a rope Mission Impossible style and reclaimed some ancient treasures (statuary, friezes, the works) just to furnish their dining room. It's always a shock walking in there from the humdrum grey concrete shopping center outside. The food...SO good. Look up the awards this place has one (Zagat etc.) because they earned them. Pretty traditional fare with a few more innovative selections - but everything is made fresh, the proportions are perfect, and the plating is always great. My favorite is the red-curry duck with pineapple and basil, but I've had five or six entrees and several appetizers - haven't been disappointed yet. I've taken maybe 10 or more people here at this point, and every single one has been impressed. What really makes this place special is the pricing. For the quality of food and decor you'll be enjoying, 15 bucks for an entrée here is mindblowing (for DC). But...if you, like me, are from the south where everything is dirt cheap - treat yourself to a more basic dish like red or green curry chicken/pork/beef for 10 bucks. It sounds cliche and boring, but even these simple dishes are just so well crafted. Also, consistently good service. Do yourself a favor. Go one or two stops extra down the metro and give this place a try. read more

The most positive thing I have to say about Galae Thai is that it's very diet friendly. In that it keeps me from overeating because the two meals I have tried there were awful. The first was drunken noodles and satay - the chicken was overcooked and very dry in both and there wasn't a lot of flavor. The second was a sashimi platter - the fish was not fresh, very fishy and salty, and the octopus was so tough and chewy I couldn't get it down. Overall very disappointing. read more

This place is good. A lot of time was spent on the atmosphere of this establishment. All the details down to the wooden check holders are stylized and beautiful. It was a treat just looking at all of the artwork in the seating area. The food was fresh. The basil seemed to have been picked from the plant and placed into the pan. Treated myself to take out last night while the Hubs was out of town, and chose Galae Thai because it was close to home. Since it was my first time ordering from here, I stuck with basics - Tom Yum soup and Drunken Noodles, both with shrimp. When I arrived, the restaurant was quiet with just a few tables occupied. The decor is very attractive, soothing, and calm, with traditional music playing. I picked up my order at the (empty) bar where it was ready and waiting for me. Hostess was friendly and thanked me for my order. So far, all very positive. When I arrived home, my food was still hot, and I was pleased to see they had packed a plastic fork and spoon, extra napkins, and disposable chopsticks. I didn't need these at home, but I appreciate the thoughtfulness. My food was well-packaged and even the soup did not leak. The soup was tasty, with loads of mushrooms and two huge shrimp. A little too strong on the lemongrass for my taste, but overall good flavor. The Drunken Noodles also had plenty of huge shrimp,were flavorful, but not nearly as spicy as I expected - I'd give them one "pepper" rather than the two shown on the menu. I have enough leftovers for dinner again tonight. Next time, I'll try dining in the restaurant, and will confidently try some more adventurous items! read more

Both were very nice the Penang had that nice sweet full flavor with a solid heat chaser. Staff was very pleasant and attentive. Been coming to Galae Thai for a couple of years now. I order the eggplant. The Lunch portions is usually less than what you get for Dinner. For the last couple of times the Dinner portion has been more like lunch. I've been there where you would get more at Dinner. Very disappointing. There is no meat so not sure why they are skimping on portions. Will not be going back. read more

I think this is a very good restaurant. The food was great. I've been twice. I recommend anything that has basil in the dish. The service was reasonable (could be a little better). The chairs are certainly a little unconfortable though (similar to a church pew)! But the food is worth these shortcomings. read more
