I love to get the Boba Fett burger and it is the perfect balance of spicy, salty, and cheesy. It can be loud in there but it's overall fun vibes and friendly in there. It was plentiful to share with others. It had a lot of toppings; cream cheese, lettuce, beans, onions, to name a few. I got the Nuclear Waste Dog as my entree. The toppings were similar to the Galaxy Supreme Nachos. It was a foot long hotdog, and I believe it because I couldn't finish it. It was good, but had a little too many toppings. It was messy to eat. Can't go to a diner without a milkshake. I ordered the Peppermint Patty. They even had the chocolate candy inside the milkshake. What I like about this is that they had leftover milkshake and they gave it to me. You can enjoy it without wasting any throw away. The service was friendly and diligent. Good dining experience from an ambiance standpoint, and they're open 8am until midnight. Service kept missing our order up from drinks to plates but it wasn't that bad. Food was great. I came to Galaxy Diner with my partner on a Saturday night before a show at the Byrd. We were seated right away (which isn't always the case, since this is a popular spot). The restaurant is much bigger than it looks from the street; the walls are painted black and dark blue with colorful and neon lights to create a retro and futuristic feel. Our food came out relatively quickly and the portions were very generous for the price! I paid about $26 for all of the food pictured, and had pancakes leftover to eat the next day. The waiter seemed inexperienced and had the nerve to have a terrible attitude. Now on to the food- we ordered breakfast food and everything we had was AWFUL! I do not recommend this business. Average diner food on the main strip of the tourist filled Carytown. The place kinda has a strange smell from the moment you walk in, but we were so hungry and craving breakfast, that we didn't mind. The lady that was seating people was sitting in the first booth and was eating her own meal. Each time someone walked in, she'd "politely" cover her mouth and point down the hall and let you know that you can sit anywhere. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it would have been pretty good if it wasn't so greasy. The grease was just dripping off of it and I had a bowl of grease by the end. Other than that, it was large and full of a decent portion of fillings. The potatoes were your average diner potatoes but better than a hotel! I'd probably skip this place next time since there are many other options on this strip. read more

Went to Galaxy Diner today because the kids wanted brunch while we were shopping in Carytown. Had to wait for a table which wasn't a big deal. There are a few high-top window seats in the front of the restaurant and NO ONE was sitting there, nor waiting to sit there. My mother-in-law, with her broken foot, in her visible BOOT, sat down there to wait. The manager told her she had to wait outside (in the cold, mind you...) and she said, "I have a broken foot." And he said, "eveyone waits outside." I wasn't there and if I was, we wouldn't have waited. After we ate, she told me what happened. When I confronted him on my way out and said he should be ashamed of himself, instead of an apology, he literally told me to "shoo" and "scoot." Who makes a nearly 70 year old woman with a broken foot wait outside when there was a chair for her to sit on? The waitress was a delight though. read more

But, I was getting two things, an adult meal and a kids meal. Our food came out piping hot. The restaurant is definitely noisy. It's a diner, makes sense. I never saw the patio seating out back that they advertised on the door. But, it is quiter towards the back. we sat in the area where there was high traffic, wait staff picking up orders, kitchen making orders, people going back and for to and from seating in the back. I was not too bothers by this because I knew what this location was mostly about. Bathrooms: meh. I have had way worse. But, the hot water is extremely hot. I almost was burnt when using it to wash my hands. i do have concerns for other who may go in their behind someone. this is for the females restroom. Food: some was good some was meh. My friend meatloaf sandwich was burnt, the kiddos pancakes were burnt as well. My chicken salad was not too bad, my husband said his Aztec burger was good, and the nachos were delicious. So I guess it depends on what your order, who is cooking, how busy it is for cooks to stay attentive. They are looking for a line cook so there maybe some issues there. I struggled with this rating giving it almost 4 stars. Maybe my next trip we can get them up there. read more

I do enjoy this divey hotspot in the trendy Carytown neighborhood. Breakfast is served all day long. Fried pickles are devoured by all. Galaxy Diner has a varied menu with decent prices. The wait persons are super friendly and they sport some really cool tattoos! BUT!!! I can only give it 4 stars because It's like a walk in freezer up in there! It is soooo cold. Although My eggs were made to perfection and the tater tots were crispy and yummy... the bacon was fatty and unappealing... the blueberry pancakes (discs) were hard, tough and inedible, I had one bite and put the aside... I had a hankering for pancakes and sadly, my craving wasn't satisfied. I mentioned my polite complaint to the server... who sheepishly just said "sorry". No offer to adjust my bill or talk to a manager. The service was slow... had to ask for utensils... but what this place has going for it is the cool atmosphere, the great 80's music, and it's location in Carytown. I had never visited Galaxy pre-pandemic, which is beyond surprising considering I originally hail from New Jersey, a la Land of the Diner. I love and miss classic diners, and I genuinely don't know how I had lived in Richmond for nearly three years without stepping foot through Galaxy's doors. Fortunately, one day in late July, I was searching Google for open places during that phase of the pandemic, and somehow noticed that Galaxy had re-opened and didn't require reservations. Since then, I've been to and ordered take out/delivery from Galaxy countless times. I've actually lost count. I couldn't tell you. I haven't tried their breakfast yet (I keep meaning to, I know, I suck), but I have had their club sandwich and atomic dog way too many times. They're just both SO GOOD. Each time I go, I want to order both. And frankly, sometimes I do (and the club becomes my lunch the next day). I've also ordered the chef salad (aka the club as a salad, essentially), which is also very good, but I do prefer the sandwich. And one time, perhaps the most momentous of all my visits, I ordered the Italian burger (that might not be the real name of it, but I don't feel like looking it up right now) and subbed the marinara for mayonnaise. When it came out, the chef had written "Hey" in mayonnaise, which was so nice! Speaking of nice, everybody who works here is really friendly. One time they forgot the dressing for the salad and since the bag was stapled, I didn't realize it until I was several blocks away back at my car. It was Cary Street on a Sunday and I had stopped for ice cream too on my walk back, so I asked if they could run it out to my car if I put my flashers on, and they did so without hesitation. They definitely didn't have to do that, so I appreciated that. Delivery was also turbo fast the one time I got that (last week), so I'll definitely order that again soon. And sometime soon, whenever I eventually tire myself of the club and hot dog, I will try their breakfast. I really do want to try it - I swear. They serve it all day and their bacon is incredible, so I have high hopes. All said: Galaxy is a great choice for quality diner food in Richmond. ** They're also following Covid protocols. This spot is one of the most Far Out spots in Richmond, and boy did we eat good! E. and I got the Galactic Nachos, Halley's Omelet (a play on Halley's Comet, for you space nuts!) with a side of tots and a biscuit. The tots, we'll let me tell you... they are crunchy; they are supple -- I just really the way they carry themselves... And that omelet, one small step for flavor, one giant leap for my taste buds! As for the drinks--I thought I was in zero G for a second, cause I was really thinking damn these are good drinks and really what I needed and wanted and probably didnt even know I wanted because I was looking at The Galaxy Grasshopper for a while which also looked good but then E suggested the Raspberry Limeade and she was so right. We split it elegantly. We also both got waters. And split a lemonade (almost forgot!). Both were larger than life (on Earth at least). Oh and also two coffees. E. used cream in her's. And our server?? Randi?? Simply lovely. She was funny, knowledgeable, bright. She had us belly-ache laughing out of the restaurant (and out of this world). My husband is in love with this place! We went on a Saturday morning so there was a wait but only waited about 10 minutes. Once we were seated & ordered, the food came out fast! The falafel burger is crispy & flavorful. The blackened chicken wrap is spicy. Every lunch order comes with an amazing fried pickle. Also, they have "the good ranch". They are only seating at half capacity and all the staff wore masked. We will definitely be back next time we want to dine in Carytown.
