Checked in on 3/7/15. Galbi - Decent but not a lot of flavor which was disappointing. On the boarder of being too chewy. Japchae - Good but had better. Did make my stomach bubbly though. Seafood tofu bowl - good. All the little dishes did not seem fresh but selections were good. Customer service was great, very friendly. Wouldn't go back agin considering the overall food quality and value. A little overpriced. PS: They are racist against white people in terms of the spice level tolerance. A lots of Ban Chan ! This restaurant is the one of the place which gives most Ban chan . They are all good in quality and nice selection of various Ban Chan. I like Jap chae , seasoned lettuce, seaweed and other vegetable dishes I had Daen Jang Jigae. It was rich with seafood. My sister had soon doo bu. She enjoyed it.The waitress was kind. The environment was nice. Other staffs are also kind . I am planning to come back one more time soon. read more

I love love the side dishes here! There's so much variety. I always order the seafood pancake every time I go to Korean restaurants. It's just a must for me. The seafood pancake here is very mediocre.. A little soggy. I like it crispy! I had some spicy noodle soup which was very good. It's just a tad over priced for the size of the dishes but I'm sure that's because they have to factor in the fact that they provide unlimited side dishes. Do not think the side dishes are actually free.. It's built into the price but I still love it. Love the marinated crabs! read more

I just discovered Kalbi ma eul! i've eaten here about 5 times now, and the food has been amazing each time!!! The banchan is varied, fresh, numerous and delicious! One of their banchans is raw marinated crab (i havent seen that in a korean restaurant in years!) I've only ordered the dol ppan bibimbap dishes (squid, chicken, seafood, bulgogi), and they're all very good. I'm not a fan of dolsot bibimbap, but the dol ppan bibimbap here is really special. It comes with seaweed soup too. I highly recommend this place. read more

The food was below average and the service was absolutely terrible!!!!! The waitress was so rude , had the worst bitchy attitude because she didn't think we ordered enough food. We were bullied into ordering more food than we can eat. While eating the galbi wrapped in lettuce, we tasted sand in our mouth. (GROSS). My family of 4 (2 kids and 2 adults)have been going to this place for years. The foods are okay but the highlight of this restaurant is the generous ban chai (side dishes). Today we went to this place again, as usual , we ordered spicy rice cake and squids, hot pot stone rice with beef, and spicy beef soup. We rarely finished our order because we all only interested in the side dishes. Of course, we have left over the entire spicy rice cake squid and half of hot stone pot rice with beef. So I flagged the waitress to get two empty boxes to take home but the owner (lady) came by and asked why we were not eating the dishes. I told her that we were full and wanted the boxes to take home and I wanted to pack it myself and the owner ignored my request and took the dishes away and later came back with two small boxes of my foods. I know she threw half of my foods away. This is so awful. I paid for the meal and I entitled to take my foods home. Never again that my family will come to this restaurant. This owner needs to take common sense courses in order to run business. read more

I've been coming here for years with my family, will not be coming here again. The food no longer tastes good. It doesn't matter how many side dishes they give you if it all tastes like shit. We sat down and waitress shoved menus in our faces and then told us things we picked weren't in stock. Then they told us to get up and move to a different table and then kind of made us feel like we asked to be reseated. Everything tasted like it needed more seasoning and I really had a generally unhappy experience. I understand that you can be busy, but being tossed dishes is fucking crazy. Like literally was given a dish and it nearly fell off the plate because they were rushing. Dude keep your fucking food and I'll keep my money. read more

I have been to kalbi maeul a couple of times and the meat quality is great..but this time I came back for the duck BBQ but the service was horrible. I came with my husband and my whole family to eat dinner. The reason why I am only giving this place a 1 star would have to be the servers attitude!! She was so rude and horrible to us. She spilled hot tea on my sister and yet she failed to apologize and proceeded to roll her eyes as if it was my sisters fault and the duck BBQ was poorly managed..she was mixing the raw meat with the cooked meat!!! Safety violation!!! We also discovered a ladybug larva in the vegetable (lettuces) and instead of apologizing, the manager or the owner said that it's normal because the vegetables was from a farm and also FAILED to apologize as well. Due to the bad service we only gave 29$ in tip for a 222$ meal and that same waitress whispered something to her coworker's ear and glared at us as if she deserved more tip. I went to hospitality school and have learned tip is not something servers just get. I am never ever coming here back here again!! If you want good service and clean vegetable. So luckily we didn't have to wait since we arrived around 5:30pm on a Sunday (1 star). Took order quickly and food came out. Most of the food were ok (1 star). Now they started to catch attitude when they couldn't make another small dish bc "were too busy." We had brought our two daughters under 4. I've never been to ANY restaurant krn/American/Chinese/Thai/Spanish and been scoffed at for bringing kids. They were not loud at all. That's all fine bc yes kids can be annoying. Whatever. But this is what pissed me off the most. My dad, husband and my two girls went outside bc they were done. Mom asked for a check and I'm still eating. Then a dumb waitress brought over a small dish of chewed food and set it at the end of our table. I don't care if we're done eating or done paying the check. If a customer is still sitting there, you don't do that. Common sense. We were going to eat the oranges they brought over until she did that. Meanwhile another waitress is getting pissy that the next table brought a baby when the waitress didn't have another high chair. Waitress clearly stated that one of the adults needs to move. Idk where they could've moved bc the table could only set 6 ppl. They were a party of 7. I mean this place really pissed me off. If we ordered meat, you know they would've treated us differently. Aside from the lady who put her leg on her chair as she ate, I'd give this place a 5. The food was great, but the table was extremely small. They had to fit every single dish and kimchi, cabbages and other assortments on the table, and for a moment there, I thought that the foods were going to fall off my table. However, I think that the restaurant is worth a visit if you're a fan of Korean food, or you just want to try Korean food for a first-timer. I would say that this Korean restaurant is better than the ones I've had on various parts of Northern Blvd. And bonus: I didn't come out smelling like a piece of beef, so that's a good thing! Recently went here with family, had a terrible experience *service-wise*. The food is okay not awesome just typical korean cuisine you can find at dozens of restaurant on northern boulevard. The night started off on the wrong foot, we were debating whether we want BBQ or not and it quickly became clear after encounter with the most pushing waitress i have ever seen. We wanted to order couple plates of BBQ meat for our table and then each order their own dishes. When i start the order with 1 plate of the beef short ribs (before i can continue with the next order), i immediately get a response from the waitress: "thats it, is that for you only?". First of all, i don't care for that attitude and tone but i figure i would give her a chance by carefully explaining to her that BBQ is not the only thing we are getting tonight (it's like i have to assure her we will order decent amount of food to give her a decent amount of tips). Anyway, i started to add a second plate of meat (pork belly) and thats when it went south... She rolled her eyes and then proceeded with a condescending tone "thats not enough for you, why don't i start you off with 4 beef short ribs ($35 each)" I again explained to her we don't want 4 plates of the beef ribs, BBQ is not the only thing we are getting today. Seriously, I think i know what i want for dinner!!. I told her we want 1 plate of the beef ribs, 1 plate for the belly, and we have 7 other dishes to order. She paused and then started with a long "eehhhhh.......why don't i start you off with 4 beef short ribs instead, its really good" At this point, my family and I are really aggravated and nobody is in the mood for any BBQ. We told her to forget about the BBQ, we don't want any. We went ahead to order few non-bbq dishes from the menu. At this point, i am thinking in my head to get the hell out of this place, but its a saturaday night prime dinner time and we are all very hungry so i decide to just go with it. Honestly, the rest of the staff seems fairly nice and hard working. Running around constantly and was very nice delivering our food. Although the whole night, we didn't get any service to our table, my cousin was waiting for the ice to melt in his ice water...... First off, food at this place taste average at its best. They do give a lot of banchan but mainly my 1 star is for their service (though my husband still insisted on tipping over 15%). We came here for late lunch one Saturday, we ordered from their lunch menu, there's no fine print or any indication that lunch menu is only available on Monday thru Friday. When we ordered we both pointed to the lunch menu and the waitress didn't say anything and took our order. When the bill came, it was substantially higher. I brought it to their attention and they then inform us that lunch special isn't available on Saturday. They then flipped the menu to an entirely different page to show us the item listed with high price. Basically that's just very deceiving and certainly can't build a successful business based on that. We're in the neighborhood very often and we'll now be mindfully avoiding this restaurant going forward. read more
