The food was average with poor plated presentation ( the Branzino at $37 arrived looking like a plate of white mush). pasta & halibut were good but there are better prepared pastas and halibut at other Ridgefield spots. The worst was the service... the waitstaff was clueless & had no idea what we ordered 3X! And our waiter was too busy talking to friends on a separate table across the room to even pay attention to our table. The owner is super nice. It's a local institution. The ambience is nice. The service is just okay (don't ask for separate checks, or expect them to ask if everything is good, or know wine...but they will keep your drinks full). The food...meh, and expensive for what it is. The salmon was cooked really well, but no flavor (the salad on top was essentially olive guacamole). The chicken special, a spatchcock fried chicken piece with a salad on top had bones (unexpected, good thing no one broke a tooth), the rigatoni was good ( like beef stroganoff but with filet). Came for a quick show. PARKING - they have a lot plus some street if necessary ENTRANCE - greater with smiles and hellos. Turns out an old neighbor works there so old home week AMBIANCE - very rustic with darker wood and low lighting. Unfortunately it also looked a bit worn (needs shellack on some spots). The half booths need updated fabric designs. SERVICE - a bit of a high water mark as the staff is warm and friendly. MENU - extremely limited and the special list is pretty meager. APPETIZERS - we shared a couple and mixed reviews here. The calamari was good overall. Portion size was smaller than most. The cook was great very soft not rubbery and the breading was light. Very nice. However, no marinara sauce a strange mayonnaise sauce that was lamb. The meatballs were plentiful in size and the sauce was good but in all honesty more breading than meat so I'm not a fan. ENTREES - I'm told the salmon was cooked well but the dish can with a few vegetables and that was it. I tried the orrichette was a bit under cooked. The portion size was adequate but the flavors were a bit off compared to others I've had GLUTEN FREE - they were great at offering gluten free Bread. This was a plus. The beef ragu with penne was not great. The sauce was not very good but the beef was decent. VINO - the house Cabernet was Italian and fare for stock DESSERTS - tried the lava cake which was bad compared to others. When you cut into it no river of chocolate. The ricotta cheese cake was acceptable AFTER DINNER DRINKS - got double expresso and BLACK Sambucca that was excellent. The sambucca came in a generous amount. And the coffee was excellent PRICE - actually for 4 people the damage with a 20% tip was a mea $360 so the price was at least $$$ read more

I recently had an opportunity to try, and it did not disappoint. We were there for a catered event, so had a variety of pastas, eggplant, chicken, salmon and steak- all were fantastic. Before the meal they had shrimp and fresh cut charcuterie- the shrimp were u-4, impressively huge. Not to be outdone the deserts were fantastic- their take on brownies and cookies, either biscotti, millionaire bars and a perfect espresso martini. Gallo provided a nice dining experience before the show. Seated in a welcoming comfortable dining area we enjoyed the warm fresh bread offering with accompanying spicy dipping olive oil. The shared Calamari starter with zucchini, tasteful cherry peppers and aurora sauce was wonderful. The Oven Roasted Branzino (fileted) with lemon sauce was plentiful however a few splinter bones were found. Regardless the dish was a winner as was the Halibut special. Desserts included an average carrot cake and tiramisu. Service while friendly was a bit slow on occasion. I recommend the rigatoni with filet mignon tips, mushrooms, brown sauce, and shaved Tuscan cheese. The pappardelle with short rib is good but a bit too sweet in a red sauce for my tastes. Pollo and salmone are also great entree choices. The portion sizes are filling. The calamari was ok but not probably worth the $18 price. read more

It was solid fir a Monday night. Called and asked if they had a table for two open now - looking for something spontaneous. They did! Inside and outside seating. (If you sit inside, ac is on high - bring a sweater or something.) Very nice hostess and waitress. The waitress was working hard with tables inside and outside. Always helpful. We tried a few things: Manchego cheese platter: generous serving of cheese - enough for 4. My husband loved the spice pear jam (I was eh). I liked the grapes with the cheese. Wished there were a few more on the tray. Also the cheese was served with focaccia with tomato sauce, wished for plain. (Def leftovers.) We split the spinach salad. Everything was so good. The toasted sliced almonds gave it good texture. The spinach and goat cheese were very fresh. Next time I will ask for the dressing on the side; just a bit too much for me. My husband tried the rigatoni with steak tips and mushrooms. He LOVED IT! I tried the short rib ragu. The dish had homemade pasta cooked perfectly. The sauce was so rich and delish. For me, this is the most comfortable dinner-at-the-bar settings around. The vibe is just right, the food is terrific, the service is very friendly, and the clientele is smart and stylish. The cuisine is of course, Italian and both the owner and head chef are from Italy; the chef from Naples. He turns out some really good bar pizza, perfect with a glass of Chianti. The menu includes many wonderful appetizers, pasta, and Italian specialties. The parmigiano-reggiano with prosciutto was outstanding. The leanest, most melt in your mouth prosciutto I've ever eaten anywhere and the slow cooked eggplant parm was fantastic. Can't wait to return to sample more of the menu! read more

On a road trip through my old stomping grounds, we noticed that this restaurant had a particularly clever and attractive set-up to deal with outdoor dining. A tent, although in the parking lot, was insulated from cars in the lot, and passing traffic, by a large space created by barriers made of pedestals (stanchions) with glittering chains - not the ubiquitous orange cones. Think "velvet ropes" kind of stanchions. It made the place look less "emergency" than others. These touches, and the white tablecloths gracing the tables, were a harbinger of a very civilized dining experience - and that it was. Beverages were poured in very good measure and priced fairly. These are accompanied by a basket of (addictive) herbed focaccia wedges. Good olive oil is provided for dipping. We had lunch - calamari appetizer was perfectly cooked and pristinely fresh. The coating contained a bit of corn meal - a nice touch that added flavor and crispness. It was served with a delicious aïoli. The assorted salumi plate was very nice. Delicious top-quality prosciutto, brasciole, sopressata and dry capicola were a perfect appetizer. Little ramekins of marinated artichoke hearts and oil-herbed olives provided a zippy contrast to the sweet, rich charcuterie. We shared a pizza with bufalo mozzarella, olives, artichokes and bits of prosciuttini. The delicious crust was thin and tasty but could've been sturdier. The sauce which caused this problem was very, very good. We agreed that the sauce was a great reason to order an appetizer of beef and pork meatballs - next time! Service was very cheerful and accommodating. We did wonder, however, why beverages took so much time to arrive. For the first part of the meal we were one of only three tables. The staff of three servers and a busser could've done better. And I can't imagine what would become of them if the place was full - even at COVID-limited limits. Instead of immediately proffering menus, they attempted to save paper by asking me to point my phone at a code on a little plastic holder on the table. I'm old, and not used to this. We tried it, but couldn't read the PDF of the paper menus we eventually received. In the scheme of things, our meal was so pleasant that this was a minor annoyance. We didn't have dessert, but the ones served to a neighboring table looked exquisite. Three items, two beers and a cocktail were under $80. A superb value - especially in this town of wealth (mostly nouveau) and privilege (I've paid $225 for similar meals elsewhere in this town). Go here and eat. They have several half-shell offerings that I hesitated to try, but they've earned my trust and will definitely try the cold bar upon our return - next week! read more

Best of the best! When you are looking for something extra special, a savory meal served professionally and with care this is the place to go! My wife and I had the pleasure of sharing a meal here over the weekend and once agin it was perfect. From the bar to the final course, perfect. Food was incredible! Very fresh and not huge portions. My husband is a chef so we are pretty particular about our food.We are big sharers and we ordered the Arugula Salad and I asked for the Watermelon on the side because I don't like but my husband does - they split the salad and gave us each a side of watermelon and according to my husband it was so juicy and flavorful. The salad was lightly dressed which is a huge plus. You could actually taste the ingredients. The beef carpaccio was the best I've had! Gallo is one of the fine yet delicate restaurants in all of Ridgefield. Recently, I ate here along with my boo and I must say this is one of the best Italian restaurants that I have visited. Stay away from this hell-hole Our last two meals at Gallo have been awful. Cold food, frantic service, a painfully loud room. It used to be fairly good (for Ridgefield) but everything appears to have declined. My heart sank as we were led to the "solarium." Even though I'd requested the other (quieter) room and it was only 6:30, just like last time, we were led to this acoustical inferno. It should really be saved for parties of 8 or more. But the food. We'd brought friends (we were hoping our last meal was an anomaly) and touted the crisp pizzas. Instead we were served a cold, soggy mess. Like a decayed ruin of a building where you can't see where the foundation once stood, we couldn't tell where the crust once was. My friend's caesar salad looked okay, but the croutons were commercially made. There's no excuse for that in a "Classic Caesar salad." My husband and I ordered the "Brick-pressed organic half-chicken with white onions, rosemary, red and yellow peppers, white wine sauce." I like brick pressed chicken because it's crispy. This decidedly was not. Like the pizza, the skin was actually soggy. It takes a kitchen with a special touch to make everything soggy. The chicken was also lukewarm and dried out. It was barely seasoned and I didn't taste any rosemary. The vegetables, on the other hand, were seasoned. They were very salty. The mashed potatoes tasted like those instant flakes out of the box. Service was frantic and not very thoughtful. Rush, rush, rush. Just like last time. The owner stepped in to deliver our entrees and practically shoved them at us. He handed us our plates like we were at a cafeteria, not a restaurant with $30 entrees. And the noise. The room was filled with large parties and I couldn't even hear my friend next to me. We had to shout, as did everyone else in the room. It was exhausting. The shrieking, cackling hausfraus at the large table or 8 or 10 didn't help. The noise was so unpleasant none of us wanted to stay for coffee or dessert. What a way to run a business. The capper to this abysmal experience was being sick for two days afterwards. Nausea, headache, fever, extreme fatigue. Both for my husband and I. Did I mention we both had the chicken? In fact, I still can't think of the chicken without feeling queasy. I spoke to Leslie at the restaurant, who reassured me everything is cooked to order and that it must be something else. Ha. That chicken did not have the taste or consistency of something was just pulled out of a hot oven. I WANT MY TWO DAYS BACK. read more
