Sadly, when I drove by La Vista today, months after a tree crashed on it and crushed the building from the 1800's, half of it had just been torn down. We will always have memories of wonderful dinners and special occasions, and all the hard work Remi Hoti's family put into turning the old Director's Chair into a fine dining destination. We were attending an event at Grace Farms and looking for a place nearby to grab dinner ahead of the show. Also my birthday week so I was looking for something special. As it turns out Grace Farms is pretty remote with not many options nearby. I'm SOO glad Yelp lead me to La Vista. Wow! What a wonderful experience! Ambiance was quiet and tasteful with gorgeous seating indoors or outdoors. We started with the cheese wheel special of cacio e pepe which was an experience since they prepared it table side. Then I had the steak special and my husband had scarpariello ( a chicken and sausage dish). Finished with lemoncello dessert. We also enjoyed the delicious cocktails while we ate our meal. Christine was our main server but I say "main" server because the whole team was extremely attentive and considerate. Even though this is more than an hour way from us-- we can't wait for a special occasion to go back. Absolutely worth the trip. Nine of us went for lunch and all loved our food! They bring out bread, cheese, olives, peppers and bread for the table which is a nice touch. The clams and calamari appetizers were delicious and we then moved on to main dishes...my soft shell crab special was so good, a riff on a crab cake. Another friend had the truffle gnocchi special which was great as well. And two at the table ordered the veal chop and gave it rave reviews. Most of us took half our meals home as the portions are generous. Great wait staff. Very attentive without being intrusive. All in all, a fantastic lunch out on a drizzly day. I'll up it to 5 because it is very rare I find good Italian food around here. Been driving past this place for so many years and finally decided to stop for take-out. The salad that came with the entree was absolutely delicious. Usually I throw the side salads out they are so bad. The chicken parm was huge, tender, flavorful and the best we've had in the area. The spaghetti was also perfectly al dente with a surprisingly delicious sauce -- neve had a good side of pasta for take-out as usually it is mush. Chicken paillard was okay-- not as flavorful as hoped. Service was very friendly and would definitely return for that chicken parm and salad! read more

We came here for lunch. It was our first time here, and had a wonderful experience! The service was truly excellent, very attentive without being overbearing, and caring. The beet salad was delicious, as was the bread that came soon after we sat down along with olive oil and balsamic, olives and cheeses, and a tamponade. The chicken parmigiana was exactly the way you would want it, perfect and delicious, and so was the pasta that came with it. Our dessert and coffees were very good too. The ambiance is traditional but feels fresh and bright, especially with a ton of natural light through all the big windows. Overall everything was great! read more

Nothing was bad or done wrong, it just wasn't good, and with a $400 check for 3 people ($50 in alcohol), it should be very good. I have come to La Vista with my family for 2 years. It has been the best experience I have ever had with a restaurant. First of all, the fact that it is a family owned establishment adds an element of home any time you go there. The staff are super friendly and helpful with whatever you ask of them. Chef Ramy always has something new with the specials menu, and it never disappoints in terms of taste. The fact that all the ingredients come straight from the garden right outside also adds to the pure flavor of the food. The food is a delight, and I am glad we found this place! Every time my family has gone to La Vista we are more than happy with our experience. From the time you walk in we are greeted and welcomed in. Tonight we sat close to the fireplace. It was so warm and toasty and comfortable. It was my teenage son and I on a mom/son date. We both had the special asparagus soup and not one drop was left by either of us. My son had the salmon and he didn't talk until he was finished, that is how good it was! I had the chicken paillard which was juicy and very flavorful. The desserts we had were the lava cake and chocolate cake, absolutely delicious especially with the complimentary fruit platter. On our first visit in 2020, the service was slow but the food was excellent. On our second visit, the service was great but the food was average. We waited a year for our third visit, which is likely our last. The special pork dish was overcooked on one end, undercooked on the other, and served cooler than room temperature (yes, we told the waiter but he had no viable solution). The Capellini Aragosta (angel hair pasta in a lobster sauce with fresh lobster meat and a touch of cream and cognac) is a small portion for $26 and had very little lobster. I could taste other fish mixed into the dish. Plus, we told them in advance that it was our anniversary but we might as well have told them we were celebrating Wednesday since we got no special table, service or greeting. read more

What a HORRIBLE experience. I made a reservation and specifically told them over and over that it was our wedding anniversary and I wanted a nice, quiet table. We get there and the seating is super small and not spaced out at all. No one asks us if we'd like a drink. We flag someone down and order. Time passes, no one comes with a menu, no one asks if we'd like to order appetizers or another drink. Finally flag someone down again. Specials included what was described as "2 pork chops , smoked for 5 hours, over potatoes and veggies". I order this and what comes out of one enormous cut of pork in a very spicy sauce. Wasn't even edible. My husband had the other special...lobster fra diavlo. I tried a piece of his shrimp and spit it out...I told him it tasted bad to me. He proceeded to eat his food and later spent the night in the bathroom vomiting with diarrhea. As for my "nice, quiet table"...I guess their family members came and they seat them behind us. Totally obnoxious, very loud, the owner or managers or whatever were all catering to their table and not paying any mind to any others. If that wasn't enough, THE CHEF comes out, sits at their table, pours himself a glass of wine and lights a cigarette. This was one of the absolute WORST dining experiences we have ever had. Fortunately, we left and went to a much better establishment for after dinner drinks and dessert. read more

Updated review: Moving this from 4 to 5 stars. Simply because everything about this place is great. It's our go-to restaurant in the extended area. The owner and entire family make you feel at home. Service is impeccable. The captain and hostess always remember us. And the specials are amazing (always something new with one or two "usuals" that never get boring). My wife loves experimenting and says you can't go wrong. Even my 9 year old son expanded his repertoire with a "custom made" mahi mahi clam and pasta dish that the head waiter recommended and he was is heaven. It's not dinner it's an experience for us and any family member we bring here when they visit. Enjoy! Original review: Always look forward to the specials. Waste of my money. I do not recommend at all! There are many other options around the area! Yes atmosphere is very nice, however that goes out the window when u hear waiter boss around the busboy. I have dined there on four occasions. Let me bullet note my thoughts: Atmosphere was lovely sat by the fireplace. Food was ok, my wife got fish filleted at the table, but also got a lot of bones. She didn't finish it for that reason. She loved the tase just not the bones. I got the lobster and shrimp appetizer one shrimp three sauces and the small cups of sauce were less than half full. My steak NY strip was cooked perfect great size, awesome flavor. Staff: Keith was our server along with Leo. They were polite just not very friendly kind of meh. When they asked if they could get us a drink from the bar my wife ordered her usual a "toasted almond" which Keith said they don't make . When Keith spoke the specials which he memorized masterfully. He was softer spoken, had a medium strong accent and with the music playing it was hard to hear him and make out what he was saying. Leo was attentive to the drinks, but still not overly engaging. However the man who removed our plates and delivered the food (mad I didn't get his name) he was GREAT! Smiled, polite, engaging which elevated our experience. For the price I would expect friendlier service. The first two times I visited was during the day for lunch and was pleased both time Kosa took care of me and was great all around. The third time was for our sons engagement party it was a large group fixed menu and it was fine. This time I took my wife our for a date night for a nice dinner out. read more

This is one amazing restaurant. The service is great, the chef is incredible and the manager knows each guest by name. A rare treasure and super family owned spot, this place can best most nyc restaurants and do it with warmth and hospitality. Momma makes the cheese from scratch and all pasta is made fresh. Third visit. Positive experience other times. Had a reservation for outdoor dining on lawn with access stepping through the garden. Table was slanting downhill and requested table be leveled. Waiter argued with us that table was level because it didn't wiggle. We responded that table was stable but definitely quite slanted. Asked if we could move to one of the empty tables on the porch, the waiter stated that there were some no shows but he wouldn't move us. Ordered La Vista veal special. Veal was grainy, slathered with melted cheese and later remembered that it was supposed to have crab meat but it was undiscernible. Nice presentation with fresh vegetables. My dinner companion ordered a lobster pasta dish with just a few tiny pieces of lobster. Mediocre food for what we thought was a good restaurant. The slanted table incident was offensive. read more

My husband and I went to La Vista restaurant last night and enjoyed the most delicious food! I had an asparagus soup that honestly was the best soup I have ever had in my life. Incredible! I also watched the flames roar as they artfully pan fried my bronzino then drizzled over my plate the amazing fresh lemon butter sauce which was whipped up table side. After much food and some outstanding wine (all experienced by the roaring fireplace, I indulged in a chocolate drizzled cannoli accompanied by an assortment of fruit. Reminds me of a family-owned restaurant on a reality show. Owner and chef reeks of cigarettes when he passes you in the dining room. Every employee seems to be a family member which is great, though they speak to each other very informally and rather unprofessionally which is unnecessary and not so great. They cannot seem to manage their reservations. Food is average Italian. With so many options in the area, I wouldn't race to visit. As I said, so much respect for family businesses.
