Unlike some other reviewers, I had a good experience here. I didn't call ahead for anything, was just browsing around the mall and decided I wanted to get the newly released Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's a standard place to get video games, and other gaming accessories. Not much I can really say about it, at least on a store level. I wish the prices were better, but people in hell want ice water too. They usually have the stuff that I need (want). I really don't like ranting on the negative but I can't stand for it anymore. I have been swindled for the last time. This is the third reservation that I have made at this location and it is the third time that they have not fulfilled their commitment.   I would like some clarification how 3 of the 4 locations near me have guides and preorders fulfilled and the Stonestown location did not.  Why is it that I had to pay to preorder something, and not receive it when it was promised.  On top of that; those who did speak to me in store - Austin, AJ, Joelle, and Elena were of no help, assistance, or comfort and not only dismissed my questions; and concerns with attitude, the employees tried to lie to me about the order due date. One of the better Gamestops out there, probably the best one I've found in the city. They didn't push the pre-order thing on us when we were buying games (got 1 game free due to a sale) and were actually pretty friendly. A pretty big selection of titles (a little lacking in the GBA department, but oh well) and it's pretty well organized so you can find things pretty easily. That said, some used games seem a bit pricey (seriously, $40 for COD World at War?!?!) and you don't get that much if you trade back your games for store credit or cash. Still it's the best one I've found so far, so if you have some unwanted games that you never play and are looking for something new then this is the place to go. read more

Awesome staff. I was there during the Wave 4 Amiibo preorder disaster. They kept us informed of what what was happening with the stock. They worked as quickly as possible, in spite of the Gamestop servers being screwed up so bad. Even though I didn't get the preorder I wanted in that day, I appreciated the staff's valiant efforts in helping all of us get those preorders. Outside that mess of a day, the staff are still very friendly and helpful. Plus, this Gamestop is a convenient walking distance from SFSU. read more

I have been coming here for 3 years, they are always super helpful and knowledgeable about game launches to gift buying. Purchased a used Wii U on 07/19/14. was rang up by George, got great customer service. I was told i could return it within 7 days for a full refund. being a playstation gamer i honestly did not enjoy the system. Brought it back in today for a refund.Tyler assisted me with the return and was very professional. he asked me what the reason why the return was being made and i let him know that it was not for me. OUT OF NOWHERE JAMES, another store attendant starts to raise his voice about the return. he mentioned it was not a rental store and that i could not do it again. He totally went against what the policy state on the receipt. I have seen him there before and i feel he should be pretty familiar with Gamestop's policies. I give a thumbs up to George and Tyler for having great customer service skills. Unfortunately James has ruined experience at that location. read more

This is reviewing an older incident back when I lived around Monterey Heights and would come over here to just browse for games. I mean, it's close to impossible to just casually "window shop" for games anymore when GameStop basically have monopoly on the retail game market, so it's either GameStop or run around in Best Buy? Anyways! This incident occurred in 2006 at the launch of Twilight Princess - which I pre-ordered. At launch date, I of course went to pick up my copy, but as known around that time GameStops everywhere did not have enough copies ordered to their stores to meet the demands for the game - which you won't be too surprised about, I mean come on it was the first Zelda to the then all new and over hyped Wii. However, is it really hard for a nationwide retailer to set up a system for pre-orders to not exceed the amount they will be stocking up? I was not the only one who couldn't get my long awaited copy of Twilight Princess, but that was OK, I could whine to most of my friends with same misfortune. However, now this is why to this day I have refused to spend any money at GameStop again: - I was asked during pre-ordering to leave a phone number - I did so. - I was told THEY would call me when the back orders of pre-orders would arrive. - They never called. - About a month or so after release date (since I stopped by about a week later and they still didn't have any new copies), I called and the guy on the phone told me "Well, you probably left the wrong number." (exact quote mind you). - I gave him my name and he read up the number on file. (I'm grey on this, it was either I gave him my number and he found it or I gave him my name and he found it and read up the number with it) - It was the right number. - He told me they have enough copies now and I can pick it up. No apologies. I can excuse mistakes for a big launch, there was a huge demand for the game. But the attitude from that sales associate was unacceptable. Not a single time did he apologize for the fact GameStop never got in touch with me - even though they said they'd notify me. Maybe if I was a rabid soccer mom I would've deserved that treatment, but I was just an ordinary gamer who pre-ordered a copy and ended up getting it later than anyone else. Want to buy games? I went in to buy a preowned playstation 3. I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about these. They sold me an 80gb machine that was visibly beaten up on the outside (was in sealed box, and clogged with dust) for $220.00. It died the next day. I brought it back and after a lot of questions I found that a BRAND NEW 250gb system was only 30 dollars more!!!!! I feel so ripped off! Don't shop here. This location is pretty dang small and a little out of the way to just pick up some video games. But at the same time it is one of the only places you can get video games within walking distance of SFSU. I normally come for the used games, and the wall of gba and ds games were fairly impressive, but the titles they had were not. read more

We came here for the Smash Bros. release and that went smoothly. They even let me in to just browse as I was apparently the only person who wanted to look at anything else in the store. The staff at this gamestop are always helpful and definitely know their products. I'm always greeted when I walk in and offered help locating something I might be looking for. My son loves it here because he's only focused on games. I'm focused on prices and Gamestop is competing with Target and Best Buy for me. Gamestop has the games that the other two places do not. First time ever purchasing anything at Gamestop and I can say that I will not be returning. Called in an hour before they were closing to put an item on hold. I arrived at the store 20 minutes later to purchase it. The item was a motion censor and silicon sleeve for my Wii remote. Everything was fine, the worker rung me up and opened up the ziploc bag that held my item to place the receipt inside. After that, I immediately put my purchase inside my purse to go home. The moment I got home, I realized that one of the pieces (the silicon sleeve) was missing from the ziploc bag. I actually took a photo of the item before paying to make sure that it was the right item. Looking back at the picture, I realized that the cashier must've taken a piece out during the transaction since I didn't bother to check after paying. I called first thing the next morning and the guy on the phone told me that they did not have it at the store and since I bought the last one, there was nothing they could do about it. VERY disappointed and will not be returning to Game stop ever again. read more
