Wait, it's a market? Oh, that totally makes sense and makes the interior so much more inviting. I guess. No. I disagree with myself. It's a deli, not a market, so the interior feels weird. That's right. Ganim's reminds me of 2015 in a very positive way. This is an old-school neighborhood spot that has managed to survive all the multimillionaires who have made Potrero Hill the opposite of a great place for people-watching. My advice is to watch: the great views, the dogs, the hills, and your step. Don't watch the people; they're banal and boring in their richery. Most of the new Potrero Hill residents wouldn't feel comfortable inside Ganim's, which is part of why I like spending time here even though it's dark and can feel dingy. Surprisingly for a place like this, they have veggie burgers, which are OK. The fries are very good, and you get quite a portion. In general, it's probably the perfect place to pick up food and drinks for a park (or any other kind of outdoor) outing. Nothing fancy, but the people are nice. That sign, though. I guess it fits, though I think it's too middle of the road. If you're going to be straight old-fashioned, be straight old-fashioned. The sign feels like an attempt at a 1994 spruce-up. read more

Got the fish n chips 2 piece and the fish sandwich with onion rings. I do recommend the fish n chips! The fish is not super heavy, it has a nice crisp, and the steak fries are good. The fish sandwich was alright but it didn't have enough fish on it, appeared to only have 1 piece of fish and the rest of the sandwich overpowered the fish. I would try it again if it had more fish. The onion rings were great and lightly battered. I would come here again for the fish n chips. And I might try the veggie burger next time. Customer service was pleasant. Though this casual place looks unassuming, they have some really good burgers! Came here around 5:30 PM on a Wednesday and it was empty. There's some tables inside and a couple of seats outside, and you order at the counter. The burgers come out in about 10 minutes, and they're served in paper plates. I got the Jasberg burger, and it was great! Really loved the mushrooms on it, and they were very generous with all of the ingredients. I was working around the corner and we spotted this joint on the way to our site. My coworker said he's tried this place and they have good burgers. So you know I won't turn down lunch suggestions and I found time to make my way here. Parking is rough especially during the lunch rush, something I'd just want to mention so good luck w street parking. Aside from that there's literally little to nothing to complain about. The inside is necessarily quaint but more of a liquor store vibe to it with a few tables to dine in and some wall coolers with drinks. If you have time, I'd imagine you'd have a better experience eating here but I had to take mines to go. I saw a few people order double cheeseburgers and fish sandwiches. They seemed like regulars so I trust it should be worth a try if you're on the fence about it. For myself, I had a single patty cheeseburger and fries. The fries were good, properly cooked and seasoned enough. The burger held its own against anything in its class. Relatively loaded with ingredients that were definitely fresh. I can see myself coming back for certain and I highly recommend that you call in with a good 15 to 20 mins. I was too close and found myself waiting around while others came and left with their phone in orders. I'll never complain when I was the under prepared one lol. Also I wanted to add that the patrons were all types of different people but the majority were pg&e and muni workers. So it is blue collar approved, my kinda place! They always order the two piece fish and chips, the portions are big and when it gets mentioned, usually the crew jumps on board with this. The food wasn't up to par on this trip imo. The service is always super friendly and kind! I don't think in&out sauce belongs on a Mushroom swiss burger. I had to scrape it off in order to enjoy the burger. Finally tried the 3chicken kabob plate and was super disappointed to receive plain soggy white rice with the delicious kabob. There was just nothing to mellow out the flavorful meat so it ruined the meal. Tried out Ganims today for lunch. There was ok parking, not too hard to find a spot. It's on the corner, and if your not watching, you might miss it. Ordered a Bacon Royale with cheese, and fries. Pretty standard order. Took about 15min from order to getting my food. Not too bad considering there were a fair amount of clients. First, the burger. The burger presentation was good. Had all the fixings, and was butcher paper wrapped. Looked like a 7/10. Upon first bite, the burger was cool, and the american cheese not melted. The over all taste was ok IMHO, and was a very clean burger....not messy at all. The bun was sesame, and was not toasted, and overpowered the burger. Felt more like a sandwich to me. Needs more fire! Total score 6/10. Better burger options out there. Fries were thick cut, and salted appropriately. They were actually warmer than the burger. Nothing fancy, and tasted good. Walked here after my doc appointment at UCSF and had some surprisingly delicious fish and chips! For a tiny corner store, they serve fresh food made to order in a kitchen tucked away in the corner. There's also a few tables inside and outside. When I went, there were people stopping by on their lunch break and also people sitting and chatting at the outdoor tables so it presents as a friendly enough environment to get food at. The service is great, you just go to up to order and pay and they'll bring you your food when you sit down. Pretty good price for being in the city ($13.49 for a two piece fish and chip). Both the fish and fries were fried fresh and the fish was battered really well (not too thick and oily). read more
