The service was good. We were a party of 4. Con: I had to remind the waiter about certain orders but he got right on it when I did mention it. The atmosphere was nice and loved that they have a QR menu. Sad part: all of the bbq tasted the same. For example: I couldn't tell lamb and goat apart. The funny part about this is I hate goat. So because of the seasoning overpowering the meat taste. It actually went in my favor. So there's a few PROs for you as well. They have huge beer for the table to shake. My boyfriend took me here when I was visiting Houston and we did not encounter any of the terrible service people experienced. Our waiter was very attentive and food came fast. I think it's a great place to go to for drinks and finger foods as another reviewer mentioned. It's a very casual environment and I like that there's karaoke as well if anyone wants to sing. Everything was flavorful and seasoned well. We tried a lot of the meats: lamb, beef tendon, chicken etc. I hope to try more of their seafoods next time. We did try their shrimp and it was so tasty! Food (3/5) was okay. The lamb skewers were good, juicy and flavorful. My first time trying beef blood vessel and back straps - not bad. The squid stir fry was lacking in flavor. I appreciate the full chicken gizzards, it was pretty tasty. The prices are reasonable. Service (1/5): awful. Customer service was extremely lackluster. The initial server (puffy hair dude 1) at the counter stared at us when we entered. Overall, he was alright. Another server (skinny, short with glasses, dude #2) - terrible. He prioritized his friend over customers who obviously arrived first. His friend came out of nowhere after my party, waited a bit, walked in and talked to his friend (dude #2) who was working in the back, left. Dude #2 proceeded to tell my party the available was reserved because someone came before us while Dude #1 was confused because he obviously saw the friend skipped. Already im annoyed but tried to be patient because maybe the place is understaffed. I would less annoyed if the friend of Dude #2's friend came early because then perhaps there was a reason for the rush. BUT no, that wasnt the case. So why the priority when other ppl are waiting? On top of that, Dude #2's friend had to climb on stage, messed with the karaoke system which then distracted Dude #1 to come and fix while there obviously tables to serve. If you were going to be rambunctious, at least be a good singer. No, he sucked. What a disturbance. Our 3rd server (puffy hair #3) was nice though, i could tell he was overworked. Food service was extremely slow. The skewers weren't hot when they arrived at the table. We left before we even received all of our food. My party clearly wasn't the only one experiencing that because one couple who was already seated before my party waited A LONG time for their food, and by they did, they barely ate and packed 90% to go. Another party, the girls even FORGOT they still had food when they were getting ready to leave. It stays opened late so good for getting drunk with friends late at night and karaoke. Drunk people wouldn't mind rambunctious ppl. But I'm not there to entertain that. Came here with a friend for an early dinner Sunday around 5pm and I was glad I did bc it got packed pretty fast. We sat down and not a minute less came a waiter asking if we were ready to order. Um, no we're not. The other guy working brought us water and asked if we were ready. No, not yet...then when we were finally ready to order ofc no one is paying attention to us so we waved at them (they were sitting at a table right next to us preparing vegetables). We ordered scallop, skewers (sausage, beef, lamb), pig foot, dan dan noodles, and cold noodles. The dan dan noodles were very good - just enough heat for a kick, not like the intense numbing that Sichuan places do. It was also presented beautifully and allowed you to mix it yourself. The cold noodles had great flavor but I expected a jelly or clear noodle instead of soba. The scallops were expensive ($4 each) and although tasty, had a tad too much garlic. I ended up pushing most of it to the side. The scallops was huge which was a plus and also were pleasing to the eye. The skewers were seasoned so well, the whole restaurant in fact smelled like the seasoning so I was salivating the whole time. Only problem was that they didn't come out piping hot, just room temperature which was disappointing. Xin Jiang, which is my favorite skewer spot in Houston (also Chinatown) comes out hot and tastes better. The pigs feet were good but we could only eat two of the three pieces (one was too tough). The menu needs some improvement with some items having no prices, and then some labeled differently than their accompanying photo. When it came time to pay I tried to flag one of the two waiters and he walked right past me not noticing. Didn't see me until his second time walking past. Overall the meal had some hits and misses. The stars of the show were definitely not the skewer items. Next time I come back I'm trying more of the bowls/plates and grilled items (not skewered). read more

Terrible service and management due to lack of waiters. There was only one young waitress in the restraurant during the entire night and responsible for both dining and takeout. We came in the restaurant shortly after they opened and were the first guest but still waited 15 min to get our food ordered. Then waited 40 min to finally get food on table but the skewers were cold because the waitress did not bring them to us in time. Who wants to eat a cold skewer?? We did not ask her to reheat them only because her attitude was nice and she was indeed very busy. We decided to order some more food and it was difficult to flag her down as well. After ordering (which we thought she ordered for us), we then patiently waited for our food for another half an hour before we were anxious and asked her our food status. And then she told me she was sorry that she forgot to ask kitchen to cook our food..... So we waited half an hour for skewers that would never come and we wouldnt know that until asking her... I was speechless and so disappointed. I had high expectations for this place and we took a uber all the way from downtown just to try it. I came here close to closing time (hey don't judge, we all do it once in a while). It was pretty packed and the staff and manager were nice enough to accommodate us still. The place was clean, they give out free edamame and peanuts, and aren't cheap with the napkins. We ordered a beer tower, lamb, beef, prawns, grilled oysters, squid feet, enoki mushrooms, grilled chives, chicken wings, and beef tendons. I love variety and the food was grilled just right! The flavors had lots of spice. I noticed the cumin in it but I enjoyed it. I don't think you can come here without drinking beer! The beer was $18 and we really has 8-9 glasses from it!! It's definitely a place to try, I don't see why there are bad reviews because the service and food was great!! Keep in mind, these skewers are small, so the price does rack up. My bill was about 120 for 5 people, so it's not bad, but from the way I eat, I could've ordered more.. this place is pretty hidden. It's in the hmart shopping center on the right. Went to try this place since they had the bbq skewers like the other restaurant (that closed down) had. Gao's is okay, they use the same seasoning spice on everything. But price was decent so if you want to try a little bit of everything, you can do that. More of a bar type of place, so if you're into karaoke and beer, this is your place. Can also get kinda loud when people start singing. So if you don't want to hear your tablemates conversation , this is the place for you. read more

Food was delicious. One issue for some is that they have photos on only some dishes and the rest of the menu was in Chinese (unless maybe they gave me a Chinese menu thinking I could read). Lamb skewers were great and also their spicy crawfish (very spicy)! They have a few things here that aren't offered in their original location in Dallas like kimchee fried rice. This place is perfect bar food. We had two towers of beer, a grapefruit soju and enough food to feed a village. The beef and lamb skewers were my favorite - they mixed the pieces up with meaty and fatty pieces and so it was perfectly moist and with burnt pieces. I also highly recommend their cucumber salad! I just had to review at one of my favorite Chuan Chuan restaurants in Houston! Trust me, If you like Chinese skewers, this is one of the best places hands down. I've been to Xinjiang BBQ, Tian Tian Lu Chuan (next door), Fat Ni BBQ, and to China myself! Out of all the stores in Houston, Gao's Kabob has the most authentic skewers. Every busy night I come I see this place flooded with Chinese college students, and it's pretty popular at night. If you hate cumin, big yikes, you're missing out! This was my favorite place, I'll try to update when I get new items when I come back Food: everything is great, but I didn't like the corn. The cumin seasoning works for most items except for corn. MUST HAVE: small beef skewers - Those are the best, it's $4.99 a batch. grilled steam buns - fill up with carbs or you don't be full. They're crispy but not dry. My favorite item here. I love these too. Covered in the cumin seasoning If you're here to drink, I'll definitely get the yogurt soju for girls and the beer tower if you have enough people. Skewers are the best stuff with alcohol! OKAY The large skewers can be a little on the dry side, but the seasoning is good and they distribute the fat evenly. I'll always order a few but they're not phenomenal. Scallops (with clear noodles) is really popular but it's okay to me. Tofu skin - you should know these will never be crispy. It'll be like the little tofu skins you get in ddukkbokki. Enoki mushroom - covered in cumin seasoning and it's also soggy. However I think the flavor is great, just chew with caution or you might have it stuck in your throat. LOL. Golden Buns - deep fried bao covered in condensed milk. It's a little too sweet for me. I'm a savory person so I reccomend the grilled steam buns. Customer service: something I felt like I had to address here, you need to seat yourself here unless it's a busy night. You pick your seat and there's already a menu + appetizer on the table. You press the service button or you flag them down when you're ready or need something. Yes, I have experienced times where they tried to dodge me, but I think it's understandable. One time the server avoided everyone at my table and looked at me for help to speak to her in Chinese! Some of them don't know English from what I can tell, and so I try to point at the English menu so it's easier. If you come here you'll be less frustrated keeping this in mind! read more

I straight up just don't think it's right... lol like how can they ever serve such dry, overcooked foods?!? I heard the squid was good so i tried it = nothing special. Some of their items carries a scent of cleaning solution and those are: the chicken feet, enoki mushrooms and i think also the pork feet(I can't quite remember since that was from my last order.) When they first opened, the beef and lamb kabobs were not as disappointing as they are now. Their dan dan noodle is good but is sweet. Ask for extra chili oil in it. Came here for Chinese Bbq! Overall it was pretty good maybe 3.75 out of 5!? We got the lamb and beef skewers, enoki mushrooms and some squid. Everything was decently flavored but the two stars are mainly for service. Service wasn't good and very lacking which I can understand for places that improve over time but after reading alot of these reviews it hasn't. Oh I definitely saw a worker drop a skewer and put it back on the counter to be cooked rip!!! Overall decent food but watchout for service is lacking and maybe sanitation issues.
