Such a great spot to drink and hangout with friends! Service is quick despite how busy it can get. Everything is priced fairly well too. There's also open mic karaoke. I recommend ordering bbq pork skewers, grilled oysters and dan dan noodles! The other skewers I got were good too, charred and flavorful but the dishes I mentioned were the standouts for me. read more

Stumbled upon this spot through an IG post while looking for a quick dinner--BAM, it seemed like the perfect fit. We had about a 30-minute wait, which wasn't a big deal since the restaurant is in a shopping strip (the waiting area is tiny, fitting maybe three people). We killed time at H-Mart before heading back. Once seated, the space was cramped--I was barely a foot away from the next customer. Since we were practically dining together, I asked them how the ordering worked. They explained that everything is done through your phone, and you can keep adding as you go. They brought out some edamame to snack on while we figured out what to get. I went a little click-crazy while ordering, so I don't remember everything I ordered, but some standouts were the Big Beef with Fat, Grilled Shell Scallop, Bullfrog Legs, Squid, and Beef Sashimi. The Big Beef with Fat was juicy with a nice seasoned, cumin-crusted exterior. The Grilled Shell Scallop was both visually pleasing and packed with flavor--the vermicelli underneath had a rich, oily spice that was great! I wish I could tell you what all we ordered, but I don't know. This place does not take reservations, so we waited about 40 minutes for a table of 12 people on a Saturday night. Not too bad considering their's stuff to do around like shop at HMart, lol. We had no difficulty finding parking. We ordered probably everything on the menu, the only thing that makes it hard is, if you're in a big group, no one knows if you actually got the item/s you ordered. So maybe go with 6 people or less. My favorites, off the top of my head was the corn for sure, the vegetables, and pork belly. I was a HUGE fan of the donut dessert, lol. I could eat 100 of those fried donuts/bread. Definitely check them out. They play good music.. people karaoke.. just a good time! read more

We came during happy hour. While we waited for our order there's complementary sunflower seeds and edamame. We ordered squid dish, lamb and beef skewers, corn on the cob. I love this place. It was better the first time.. we went at night. The most recent was during lunch time and unfortunately the food was not the same. The BBQ items were decent, but the other items such as fried rice and ramen were very bland and tasteless. We had to doctor the rice and noodles up with salt, pepper and spicy oil. It's worth a try but go at night! The service was good but keep in mind it's very small. read more

Gao's Kabob was a great find in Houston! The food was flavorful, freshly prepared, and very satisfying. I especially enjoyed the bold Xinjiang-style seasonings and smoky grilled taste. Great place for friends and family to join! Once you order the food with their QR code, a waiter will come over each time to confirm what you order and if you would like it spicy or not. My favorite from there was the king oyster mushroom, okra, and enoki mushroom. I also enjoyed a couple of their cold noodles. My friends love the chicken skin, pig intestine and lamb skewers, and fish the most. They also do reward points. I tried their silkworm and it reminded me of beans . We found this place on Instagram and decided to check it out. Upon entering we were greeted and seated. The seating is slightly cramped, but not so that you cant function at your table. I think its more of a community style seating because the space is small. To touch on the spacing. My fiancee and I played a card game that asks questions and didn't feel like it was an intrusion of our gsme based on the closeness. The server Jason I believe his name, was friendly and explained how to order and showed us a point membership system as well that if we come back we can use the points we earned. We ordered a bunch of things. I'll start with drinks first. We ordered the juice boxes with the jack daniels bottle on top. I was hesitant, but it was pretty darn good. It was sweet, but watch out how the alcohol pours out because it can get a bit heavy as you drink they juice(shake up the box). We also ordered strawberry and grape soju. Both were really good. As far as water, they give you a carafe for your table and fill it as soon as it starts to get low. Now for the food. We order a bunch of things. The lamb with fat and big lamb were first. I love a little fat so that was really really good to me. The big lamb was as well. They season the food pretty good. There's three levels to the seasoning regulator, medium, and hot. We tried regular and medium. Neither were unbearably spicy. Then we ordered the egg noodles and corn as sides. The egg noodles were FIRE. Not heat wise, but flavor wise. I wanted to be greedy and order another plate of noodles even though I was full. The corn was great too. From there we ordered the beef skewers with fat and regular big beef skewers. We ordered the bbq oysters which were really really good and garlicky. We ordered the mushroom wrapped in bacon which I enjoyed because I like mushrooms. We ordered a second round of big lamb and beef with fat. For dessert we ordered the the little fried balls. I cant remember the name, but they were like big donut holes. We left full and happy. I recommend you to order the hot oysters and Dan Dan noodle. They are delicious! When the oyster is served, grab one and eat one! It's juicy! Dan Dan noodle is tasty too. Good vibes and good food are to be found at this Chinese BBQ chain from Flushing NY! I enjoyed their BBQ meat skewers, as they are juicy and well-seasoned, with my favorite being the lamb skewers. Other than the meat and seafood skewers, they also have many vegetarian options including tofu skin, enoki mushrooms, eggplant, sweet potatoes, and fish tofu. I also tried their fresh milk tea which I didn't expect much from, but surprisingly flavorful and tasty! I think my only complaint regarding the food would be the eggplant, it was a bit too chewy for my liking and difficult to eat, as well as drenched in sauce so it was a bit too salty. The service can be slower as they get really busy on the weekends, but for me I didn't mind since it's a great place to just hangout with friends and family. There was live music being played when I visited (and I think Karaoke later at night), not sure if this is a common occurrence but definitely improved the vibe! This place is a long-standing favorite of many! The most memorable dishes from the plethora of options are the dan dan noodles (not pictured), eggplant, grilled oysters, and beef skewers. While I've grown up knowing this place as a good late-night hangout spot to have drinks and karaoke with friends, the food is also a standout reason to come here. Service is fast and friendly, and it does tend to have a wait during weekends especially since the restaurant is fairly small. I'd recommend getting here earlier than planned to get on the waitlist. read more

Pretty lively spot, though felt a bit like a karaoke bar instead of a restaurant. Some if the skewers were awesome, others were a bit disappointing. The skewers I'd focus on are the big lamb, chicken, chicken skin, king oyster mushroom and the potato. Texas is known for their good BBQ so it makes sense that their Chinese BBQ scene is on par as well! I got to visit GAO's location in Houston, Texas and had my meat cravings, satisfied. Since my spice tolerance is low, I got level one spicy and the flavors were well balanced with just a kick of heat. Do not skip on their Spam fried rice! It pairs very well with the meat and vegetables skewers. Service was quick and very attentive. Amazing food! Great service staff. Super beautiful atmosphere! I went on a Thursday just after open. About 430pm. It wasnt busy, I didnt know they had karaoke. First time here. My girlfriend lives in Xi'an, so it was amazing to find such a great kabob/skewer place. I had the wagyu and lamb kabobs as well as a plethora of BBQ veggies. The BBQ garlic cloves were so good also. Nestled in Chinatown on Bellaire, Gao's Kabob is a specialty restaurant that serves Northeastern Chinese BBQ. They are only two doors down from their sister restaurant (Gao's Crab) and there's plenty of parking in this plaza itself (H-Mart and a whole lotta restaurants). The dining space is slightly crowded but there are booths and tables for groups big and small. The music is on the louder side (oh oops maybe I'm old now) and the lighting is low. Its gives off a dive bar vibe mixed with karaoke music and Asian flair. Sizzling with flavor and color! Enjoy the perfect blend of marinated meats, crunchy veggies, and savory spices, all skewered to perfection. The vibe at Gao's Kabob is fun and is great for small groups or even a solo diner! We had lots of kabobs including lamb, beef, chicken, pork belly, cauliflower, corn, bean curd, gluten, green beans, squid, shrimp, and more. The side dishes like fried rice, grilled shelled scallops, abalone, and tilapia were pretty awesome too. We enjoyed most of the food and drink we ordered but will say that a lot of the flavor comes from salt and garlic. Oh and cumin too! Their drinks were well executed and I did get to try their convenience store bartending drink....a VLT with vodka. It was interesting indeed...like a boxed iced boozy lemon tea. Who else is craving a delicious kabob today? Ordering was made easy via a QR code on each table and everything is brought out quite quickly. The cumin and garlic flavors are actually kind of addictive...though can seem a little repetitive. Try them out and let me know what you think! read more

Place is great, definitely pricey but for a place where it's meant for gathering and drinking with friends it's an amazing atmosphere. They have karaoke where people can go up and sing songs and it's just a small and nice environment. If I want a drink I will go there with friends and just talk and eat. They also give sunflower seed for you to snack on and rice is free. Meat is pricey and not a lot but remember it's meant to snack on and talking with friends so for a place to have a good time with friend 5/5 but looking for dinner 2/5 read more

Located within a bustling shopping center, this restaurant is unfortunately marred by numerous potholes in the parking lot, which could be off-putting to some diners. Upon entering, the restaurant feels small and cramped, with dim lighting that adds to the overall discomfort. A karaoke machine and stage were set up, and we were "fortunate" enough to be serenaded throughout our meal by a group of teenagers, which may not be ideal for all guests. The layout of the menu and the overall dining experience left much to be desired. The options were somewhat confusing, and what made matters worse was that neither the host who seated us nor the waiter offered any explanation or guidance. While the skewers we ordered were tasty, they were overwhelmingly spicy, which could be off-putting for those with a lower tolerance for heat. Unfortunately, the scallops and oysters were underwhelming, and we left most of them untouched. As for the crawfish, which we ordered from their sister restaurant, it was so disappointing that we couldn't bring ourselves to eat it and had it removed from the bill. To make matters worse, we were only informed at the end of our meal that we could have customized the spice level of our dishes, or even chosen non-spicy options. This lack of communication significantly impacted our dining experience. Overall, our visit was underwhelming. While the skewers were enjoyable, the lack of clarity regarding menu options, poor communication, and overall atmosphere made the experience less than ideal. To make matters worse, the bathroom was a horror show. The stench of vomit was overpowering, making it nearly impossible to use the facilities without gagging. It was a nauseating experience that left me questioning the overall hygiene standards of the establishment. Now, let's talk about the food. Not only was it overpriced, but the portions were laughably small. I left the restaurant feeling hungrier than when I arrived. It's astonishing how they can charge such exorbitant prices for portions that wouldn't satisfy a bird. I was really excited to try Gao's Kabobs after seeing so many good recommendations on social media, but I left feeling a bit disappointed. The dining area is fairly tight, with tables placed close together, but luckily I went on a weekday which meant it wasn't too crowded. I did appreciate that each table had a QR code for ordering and paying directly from the website. It made the experience convenient and allowed us to order at our own pace. The menu offers a wide variety of skewers and other dishes, but many of the skewers tasted very similar to each other. I also tried the Grilled Shelled Scallop with Garlic, which unfortunately was overpowered by garlic and didn't have much of a seafood flavor. With all the hype, I truly wanted to love the experience, but I think my expectations may have been set too high. However, I'm still open to returning and exploring more of the menu. I also really enjoy listening to the lyrical Chinese music playing on the TVs while I wait for my order. I haven't had a problem with service, for it's pretty quick or at a reasonable pace for me! I'd say the only downside is sometimes* there is leaky packaging.

All the servers were prompt and helpful and our food came out quickly. The korma chop was heavenly like last time - so well-flavored and savory! The beef was definitely a good choice. The dumplings were delicious as well - a bit lighter on the flavor but quite filling and paired nicely with the chili oil dipping sauce. The restaurant was about half-filled on a Saturday evening so we had no trouble getting a table. There are plenty of seating options for parties of 2-4 and a few options for larger parties. It is a relaxed location and perfect for a date night, or dinner with family and friends. Shout out to one of the servers who was kind enough to run after us in the parking lot as we left our bag on the table!

It is a bit trendy and plays music that you would think of and in a Miami lounge or a pretentious New York Club. While service is not their strong suit, the clean bathrooms, spacious seating, and semi-open kitchen makes up for some 'tudes from the staff. The menu is most definitely Asian, but blends from a predominantly Chinese menu and featuring various Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese items. The latter includes sushi, which is likely one of the only spots in the neighborhood that still has it after midnight. They have bluefin tuna and sea urchin, in which Cafe 101 is one of the only late night spots to offer it. Their beef chow fun is nice and greasy, but filled with excessive onions, bean sprouts, and various other veggies that almost take away from the noodles and beef (which was nicely cooked). Their shrimp and egg came in a nice set, which was a good surprise and surprisingly well executed. This is also a spot for Japanese curry, and even though it's not the best, it most certainly does the job. Taiwanese popcorn chicken is on point, cumin lamb is unsurprisingly spicy, and Singapore chow mai fun has a tinge of solid wok hei. (#1) I'm genuinely not a fan of their soups and think the sushi rolls are not their best work. While they also have milk, tea options, unless one is desperate, I would also steer clear of. Parking in the early evening can be an issue at Don Huang Plaza, but after 11pm, the parking options should be abundant. Good way to scarf down the rice and finish you off. Panfried noodles here are also high in quantity and quality, so it can't be beat. Ngl - For good food, this place is the places to go. However more requirements is warranted to have a good experience. Confucious misses most of these criteria with only the food leading. I can see why people give it 3's, but my experiences are usually better than worse so I'ma go with a 4.
