I had previously use Garage Door Pros in 2023 for a garage door spring and had a 4 star rating for them. However, my most recent experience with last week was not great. I called for a garage door motor issue. The good: They were able to send someone pretty quickly. The person seemed knowledgeable and the new motor was installed and works well so far. He quoted a unit price and labor charge upfront, which I agreed to pay and paid. The bad: After the service was over, the receipt I got was from Tako Garage Doors. The person mentioned that they subcontract after hours. This was not what I wanted or had signed up for. More importantly I later did research on the unit that was installed and there seems to have been over a 100% markup. I called Garage Door Pros with this concern. However, they just had the guy from Tako call me and he said thats what the company needed him to charge. He did send me an itemized receipt. The repair took under 30 minutes from arrival to departure. It was Friday, so I believe it was considered "Emergency" garage repair, and the price was $495 plus sales tax. The technician was the owner, and he was polite and professional. He also pointed out how a prior installer did a sub-standard job of installing my door opener. At request he provided a quote for fixing that, another $400. I called earlier this week about my garage door having issues. An appointment was made for today at 10am. Adam showed up early and I went over the issues/problems with him. He did an inspection of the entire door and everything. He initially thought it was the sensors and upon further review it was the motor as the springs used were not good which put lots of strain on the garage door. Hired this company to troubleshoot and replace roller wheels on 2 commercial style garage doors. Adam was the technician who performed the repair work. The good: - Very responsive and friendly. Adam always answered my calls or texts within the same day or next day. Out of 6 companies I called, this company was the only one that returned my call in a timely manner when I need a repair urgently. Also he returned to check on another issue after the repair and it turned out to be a different issue not related to the repair. - Punctual. Adam always showed up on time as communicated. The bad: - Way overpriced. I was quoted $500~600 to replace rollers per door. I needed to get one door working for a delivery so didn't have time to wait for other quotes to come in. the job for 2 doors was done in one hour roughly. It turned out other companies only charge half of the price ~$300 per door. Also for replacing a garage door opener, I was quoted $2200. Other companies quoted me ~$1200 (top of the line from Liftmaster) - Poor communication. After the repair, I discovered one of the rollers is still the old one and didn't get replaced due to the difficulty of removing the bolt. Until I asked, this was not communicated to me after the repair was done. - Subpar job-site cleanup. The old parts/rollers were disposed on-site in my garbage bin without any beforehand communication. Last Sunday evening, I called a garage door repair man for my dad who lives in Renton. He was trying to call in his garage door company but they only work Monday-Friday and being a Sunday, his car was stuck in the garage. Pros: - This company was available to come same day that we called. - He was on time and polite. - 10 yr warranty on all parts Con: - His spring repair is more than 2x as expensive as other companies. Because he could see us same day, husband went with him, even though we had appointments with 2 other companies next morning. Husband didn't get quote before company started the work. Our mistake for being in a hurry to get our car out, as we couldn't get the garage door open. He didn't have a 10,000 cycle torsion with him, so he gave us a 20,000 cycle torsion for the price of the 10,000 cycle, which was $395! For a single spring installed. We should have gone with a popular Bellevue Door Works company with an even higher 25,000 cycle torsion for $275, or two for $386, installed, with 6 yr warranty. We could have gotten both doors better quality, new springs at less than the cost of a single spring from this company. He also had to replaced cables, brackets and drums for another $349. He was here less than an hour and I feel this repair cost is excessive, considering labor rate for the other company is $122/hr, and there's no way the parts are more than $227. I needed a new garage door opener and specified which model I wanted; they showed up with and installed the one I wanted. It only took an hour or so for installation. The technician was very knowledgeable and explained the work he was going to do and did a run through of the work once completed. After the technician left I had a question that I forgot to ask about, so they came back and talked me through it. It was a simple answering and education of info to me by the technician to solve my last minute question. They went above and beyond by send the technician back to show me what I needed help with. Six months ago, Adam (Amit?) came and replaced my spring, cable and cable drums. It was a bit pricy but he is very fast, smart and good at what he does so I thought it was worth it - especially since he guaranteed his work for one year. I thought I had written him a good review after the first visit cuz I had a great experience (this will become important later). However, two days ago my garage door got stuck and the cable came loose so I called Adam/Amit. He showed up and said that the problem was not his fault and wanted to charge me $200 for re-cabling. I did not understand why I had to pay $200 for a repair he guaranteed (he replaced the cables & drums) so I told him I expected this to be covered under warrantee. He then continued to explain his side failing to see my point so I offered to meet in the middle - $100. He rejected my offer and insisted on his $200 so I got frustrated and said that I would change my good review on yelp to a bad one. This irritated him (understandably so cuz I was frustrated too) so he angrily said he would fix it for free cuz I blackmailed him into doing so. He then fixed the cable in under 10 minutes for which I once again offered my $100 to meet in the middle. Unfortunately, he was still irritated and said that he did not want my money and that he hated people who blackmailed him because he worked hard for his reviews on yelp. I apologized to him for making him feel that way but also insisted that when he promises a guarantee on service/work, I expect him to honor it. Overall, I still think Adam/Amit is very fast, smart and good at what he does. But unfortunately, we may never do business again and therefore cannot give a 5 stars & recommend them (I generally only write 5 star reviews). Maybe next time - write down and sign to agree on exactly what is covered in his warrantee? Hum... Update: Six months ago, I had Adam/Amit come over because I had the same issue - garage cable came loose. He repaired that and then upsold me on the new equipment which I agreed to because he was really nice and guaranteed all his work. Update: Just got an updated reply from the business - yuck downgrading 3 star to 2 star. Their first reply was good - apologetic and wanted to make up for it, that's fine, I accepted it and we all move on. Now 6 months later (6/26) they post this reply that is completely not true. The door did NOT close on any object... I was there when I closed the door... he was not... looks like when you want to charge a customer you can say anything... Like I said - Adam tried to charge me $200 and I said it should be free but am willing to meet in the middle, $100 - for which he DISRESPECTFULLY turned down. Yuck.
