This place is not reasonably priced - most is around $10 but it does taste good, has interesting 70's vibe old garage vibe decor. Food is alright, not the most authentic Mexican food. I came during Restaurant Week on March 27, with my big group of friends of 10 and it was in the evening so it was very busy. We had to wait a while b/c we had to wait for the big long rectangle table (Got there around end of 7pm so near 8pm and had to wait an hr so we weren't seated until 9 pm). Most of us got the restaurant week special which was $20 so it was pricey, others got the $10 regular orders. I remember I got the corn (which you should not get b/c I thought it was like butter corn on the cob, but it was just canned corn), I got the chicken fajita tacos, which the guy waiter recommended, and lastly the cheesecake burrito (a nice treat at the end). We also shared among 4 friends the garage platter which was a great chips and dip with plenty of garnishing. The food was overall very good like flavor wise - but if you want authentic this is not the place, maybe it was because we waited so long and we were so hungry (first food finally came at 9:40 ish pm), but it's worth trying for a date or group of friends. *****We did have an issue at the end, while paying there was a girl at the cashier but we were overcharged another meal and she was giving us a hard time and not understanding the situation. So we were like just let us talk to the waiter and she was like no and just had an attitude and was being inconvenient. So finally we were able to talk to the waiter and we were overcharged and it was resolved. My FIRST AND LAST experience with the Garage was awful. Me, my girlfriend and her co-worker went to grab drinks and dinner around 530pm, when we were seated we proceeded to order drinks and appetizers. The drinks came very slow, but the food came out relatively quick. We then proceeded to order our dinners, the waitress took them down. 1 HOUR goes by...we simply asked where our dinners were. She said the kitchen "lost" our ticket. We told them we didn't want the orders and then she said she would "take some stuff off of our bill". She took 10%...$8.37 off of our $80.00 bill. Then said as she started to walk away from our table "next time will be better". In my opinion a rude comment. The food and drinks were decent, the customer service was AWFUL. read more

Not the worst Mexican food I have ever had, but close. Shrimp Quesadilla was crazy soggy and lacked the main ingredient-shrimp. Five shrimp total. I think the abundance of canned pineapple is why it was so soggy. Bummer, after a long day driving I wanted to hit the hotel, get some good food and relax. The tube of sour cream should have warned me to what was to come. Try using fresh ingredients and less pineapple. It's a shame, because the flavors were decent. Gastronomic heaven! Short jaunt off the highway in downtown Binghamton. Swung in for lunch to meet the oldest kid who lives up here. If you are on a road trip thru central NY....STOP here!!!! Mixing of tacos is allowed encouraged. Fish tacos were incredible. I have never ever had a better one anywhere. Anywhere. Carnitas taco had a pineapple salsa that was an ideal compliment. Mexican fries as a side were the way to go. Little spice, little garlic ...lotta flavor. Setting is an old Auto Garage so the name paints your picture. Trendy...hipster...casual. I was in town on business today and my wife and daughter had tagged along. We decided to go to the Garage Taco Bar for lunch. My daughter (16) is very picky eater. She gave in because mom and dad wanted Mexican. I'm glad she did because the food was AMAZING and the service was even better. They were extremely friendly and accommodating. We ordered the tortilla chip flight for an appetizer with a trio of dips: guacamole, queso, and salsa verde...all excellent! My daughter got plain chicken tacos and the chicken was very tasty and tender. My wife got chicken quesadillas and loved them. I ordered the Garage Burrito. I've heard about this place for a while and finally got the chance to eat here for dinner. It's a cute, slightly hipstery decorated place with Christmas lights and piñatas hanging as decoration. I came around 6pm on a Wednesday and was seated immediately for a table for 2. Service: waitress and hostess were attentive and fast even though there were a lot of large parties there that night- im surprised by the reviews that say service is slow and terrible? Food: I ordered 2 steak tacos with Mexican fries. Normally, I would've ordered a third taco but since I ordered two bottles of wine (1/2 off on Wednesday's!) I decided not to. The steak tacos were juicy and loved the pickled radish that it came with. However, my friend who ordered the chicken tacos said it was terribly dry. There were a large portion of crispy thin well seasoned fries. Price: it's a little pricey for a subpar taco place (I think I paid 12.50 for 2 tacos and fries?) I've been to Garage Taco many times and I have to say the quality of the food has really diminished the past two times that I've been there. Not sure if they have new management or a new cook or what, but the last time I had a ton of bones in my fish taco. This time the fish was way overcooked to almost burnt, rice was cold, beans were cold and the burrito was cold. It took me 20 minutes to get a margarita which was lackluster. I'm not sure when garage first opened but I've only recently started hearing about this place. I got mixed reviews from friends and wanted to check it out for myself. We went for dinner and got the garage platter and two taco meals, chicken and steak tacos with rice and beans as our side. We wanted to get the fish tacos but they ran out. The rice was very hard and my taco shells were slightly burnt. The food isn't amazing or anything out of the ordinary - it's what you can expect from tacos. Aside from the food, the interior is very hip with a bar area which together gave a nice ambience. The parking lot is also very small so you'll most likely have to find street parking. read more

Every time I come in here, they do something to make those tacos better, whether to use larger tortillas or make better fillings. Today I got the fish tacos which usually are batter fried but this time around, they made those using breadcrumbs which was out of this world! Also I would recommend getting the salad as a side with your tacos instead of the fries or the rice/beans because you get so much more food for your money! So... I really wanted to like this place, and now I do! At first when they opened (they have only been open for about 3 months) they really weren't ready for prime time: food took forever to arrive, and once it did get there it was both bland and in tiny quantities. Garage Taco Bar is not an inexpensive place ($3 - $4 a taco!) so for that price they really need to be delivering quality food. At first it seemed like they were more concerned about the atmosphere (which is pretty nice - airy, but not cavernous - with mellow sorta bland music) than serving good food. Their salsas were terrible, their tortilla chips were weirdly sweet, and their meats were somehow both soggy and dry at the same time. Not a good show. I make better at home. Fast forward three months and I decided to give them another try. The main thing I'll say is DON'T EXPECT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN OR CAL MEX FOOD. They still call it that, but that's clearly not what they are doing. The tortillas are oddly crisp(?!) yet somehow still a bit chewy, they're using odd flavors and nothing that should have seen direct flame has. What they're doing bears a similarity in name only to what true authentic Mexican food is. I got the chipotle shrimp tacos and they were really -REALLY- weird. But GOOD! Delicious!! Before moving to Binghamton I lived for around 20 years in Southern California. I've had shrimp tacos up and down the west coast, from San Francisco to Ensenada, and nothing I've ever had was like these tacos. These are Binghamton shrimp tacos. They aren't NYC shrimp tacos, they aren't Philly shrimp tacos, they aren't like anything else. They were cooked perfectly and it's easy to overcook shrimp. They were well flavored, but not overpoweringly so. Their flavor profile was complex yet simple at the same time. Basically, these tacos struck a nice balance of a lot of different things. They had a toasty tortilla, which I usually don't like, but this was good here. So, congratulations to the staff of Garage Taco Bar. You have yourself a truly authentic Binghamton taco. I was hesitant to try Garage upon reading some of these reviews but after trying just about every taco on the menu It's pretty clear that many people giving poor reviews are either uninformed about how a taqueria works or are simply being snooty. Garage has fresh flavorful tacos and the ingredients are extremely fresh. The only suggestion I could come up with is it'd be nice to have the option to get corn tortillas instead of flour but the food is still great regardless. 5 stars for being among the best restaurants in Bing. read more

BEER: Pretty good selection of draft beers on tap featuring many local brews. FOOD: Soft and tasty tacos in several varieties. Portions are small but pricing is inexpensive so ordering multiple plates is affordable. Served in paper lined baskets, which can get a little messy to eat depending on the ingredients of the dish ordered. You order and pick up at the counter. SERVICE: The two times we've been there we've had outstanding service; both efficient and friendly. ATMOSPHERE: The have both inside and, during warmer months, outside seating. The place is a former auto garage, so they open up two large garage doors when it's warm. Inside there's a long bar plus many tables with comfortable retro seats. Outside there are a few picnic tables. The doors open so wide it almost feels like you are still inside...still very much a part of the restaurant. The outside is nicely fenced and elevated from the sidewalk, making it feel a step up from typical outdoor urban restaurant seating. Also, if you sit outside, you can bring your dog! Decor is very nice, with a mid-century retro/industrial look. Edison bulbs everywhere. Green, black and silver dominate. Very well planned with obvious artistic consideration. OVERALL: This place would be a five star restaurant if they had a more varied and interesting food menu. I had heard some questionable reviews about this place, but all of them seemed like issues that would be common with any recently opened establishment trying to find its sea legs. My wife had the shrimp taco special, and I had the tofurizo since I'm a sissy vegetarian. We also ordered the chips and pico. The chips proved a bit underwhelming. Both entrees were great. The tacos are legit. I'm guessing the 3 stars (currently) is because most people in the area don't understand what authentic tacos are.
