I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at this salon. My friend booked an appointment for both of us in advance, and we were clearly told that the haircut would be $40 and the hair color would be $90.We even have text messages confirming the prices. When I arrived, I waited for about 30 minutes before speaking to the woman at the front desk. She suddenly changed the prices and quoted me a much higher amount. I politely explained that my friend had booked the appointment and that we had written confirmation of the original prices, but she refused to honor them. Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and very unprofessional. I told her I would wait until my friend arrived. When my friend finally spoke to her, she agreed to charge my friend the original $40 price for the haircut, even though my friend's hair is longer and thicker than mine. However, she refused to give me the same price and insisted on charging me more. It made absolutely no sense and felt unfair and discriminatory. The way we were treated was so disrespectful that we both decided to leave without getting our hair done. I had an important event today and was really looking forward to getting my hair colored and cut. Instead, | left upset, stressed, and with nothing done because of the unprofessional behavior and inconsistent pricing. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. Needed a quick touch up for my hair so calling around on a Sunday afternoon. I was surprised to see this store was open and someone answered the phones! The lady was short and to the point. No more than a couple questions allowed. LoL She proceeded to say: so do you an appointment or not? Desperate for some maintenance on a Sunday, I said okay, what time do you have? She gave me a late afternoon appointment, which worked out great with my schedule. I was nervous because of all the bad reviews on here but took a chance anyway. It turned out to be okay. Andy was pleasant to deal with and efficient. He actually did a good job on some highlights and hair cut for a few ladies before me as I sat there and watched him working. Been there few times, she give to the price from low to high for that and after you are done she is asking for $20 more than the high price she gave you. One of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. We had three appointments scheduled, but Andy was not even on time, and somehow the third appointment was never properly arranged with another stylist. It was shocking to see that his wife seemed to decide who was worthy of using Andy's time and who wasn't. The favoritism and discriminatory treatment were impossible to ignore. They also insisted on cash payments, which raised serious concerns for us and made the whole experience feel even more questionable. The biggest problem, however, was Andy's wife. She was rude, mean, and incredibly unprofessional. Instead of treating customers with respect, she acted like a gatekeeper deciding whose appointment mattered. No paying customer deserves to be treated that way. Although Andy's work may be good, I strongly recommend staying away from this salon. His wife's behavior alone is enough reason to take your business elsewhere. There are many talented stylists out there who actually respect their clients. Very disappointing experience with Andy. I clearly told him I only wanted about half an inch trimmed because I've been working so hard to grow my hair. Before he started, he said he thought I should cut about an inch and a half. I told him no and repeated that I only wanted half an inch. He ended up cutting an inch and a half anyway, basically doing what he wanted instead of listening to me. He simply chose to ignore my request, since I know, he can understand English, but either way, the result was not what I asked for. My long hair is now short. A hairstylist should listen to their clients and not just do what they want without showing empathy and not understanding how long it takes for a woman to grow their hair. I came here recommend by a friend for a color correction. I had gotten terrible highlights somewhere else my own fault for getting a Groupon. But I came here and now I LOVE my hair it's like Night and day. WOW!! Helen did a fantastic job she took her time and was super sweet. We did the color correction in 2 days and it took about 2-3 hours total. She also trimmed my hair on the second visit and I just can't say enough how much I love my hair. I also had my mom go in for a trim and my mom loved it! I've actually never seen my moms hair look so good! Garbos Salon ‍ is a place you should think twice before coming... I came in the first time to ROYA an (older lady) got a hair cut, just to cut my ends. Then the second time I came in for a cut and she ask if I wanted to add some highlights. I said ok because the girls she did in front of me look nice and ok. It was a BAD IDEA to say yes, my hair came out so sloppy, the highlights so chunky and big, she did a lazy job, and I paid $120. just for the top of my hair. For 6 Bad highlights, that right only 6 lines! I have pictures below to see and check it out. I asked Roya for at least half of my money back and she said she would do anything to fix it, but wouldn't give my money back. I would not let her touch my hair ever again. I just want at least half of my money back. RUN... this place is not an ideal for younger people. read more

My whole family from my dad to my grandma and my aunts had been going to Andy for over a decade until he ruined each one of our heads of hair... My family was SO loyal that they (somehow) had the courage to go back to him after seeing what he did to my beautiful, healthy, virgin hair. Read on to understand why I beg you not to let Andy absolutely ruin your hair. I went in asking if Andy could even do super subtle highlights/balayage that would be ashy, because I understand that I have super thick, dark hair. Christy, his wife, was super real with me and told me he wouldn't be able to do it without totally damaging my hair and requiring multiple sessions. I genuinely thanked her for her honesty and I appreciated her caring about my hair. Andy finally got to me said he could give me this hairstyle attached but that he could do a warmer blonder ombré type situation in another photo I presented. As I said, I've been going to Andy for years. I had even gotten a full balayage from him 3 years ago that lasted quite long and looked pretty beautiful! Anyways, he went to the back of the shop, whipped some sort of screwed up concoction and started throwing it all over my hair... Even after he started grabbing huge chunks of hair from the bottom of my head, I continued to beg him not to dye too much to keep it subtle. He argued that he knew what he was doing. Next thing you know, they have be in the heater 10min over the normal time bc they kept checking on me and I'm guessing (bc they never say what they're actually doing) that they were trying to bleach my hair past the orange point (idek if this is the right technique he should have been using). Let's fast forward to when he was drying my hair. He dries my hair and all the bleached parts look aqua blue besides my bangs that looked legitimately cobalt blue... I didn't understand how this was possible, but after learning a lot about hair after of this disaster, I think he put too much toner in it or something? I was not going to leave the salon with cobalt bangs and the majority of my hair dyed aqua blue... he said he could fix my bangs... the pictures of my bangs that you will see below are what I ended up walking out with that night... HORRIBLE. When I got home, I really saw how bad it was. Not only was my hair bleached so horribly it looked like I did it myself, but it was asymmetrical in the front (where people first see you)! So the next morning I had to stop by on my way to work so I wouldn't feel like a lunatic in public. Andy threw some toner in my hair and then just pulled it out with a spray bottle and rag. My bang's color looked fine but it washed out within 10 days and the rest of my hair was still a disaster... My hair is permanently damaged from Andy's work. I'm stupid and out of loyalty to him, I paid $110, expecting him to fix my hair. They counted the legit 5 min bang fix to be my "fix appointment" and never gave me a refund.. after my whole family has been going to him and we even referred others to him who have been long-term customers as well! My mom and grandma went to him next and both came home with a DARK brown base and ashy LIGHT blonde highlights... Then my aunt went and came back with green hair and also is experiencing serious damage that she has never even heard of before. I'm really just posting this to save anyone who reads this from completely ruining their hair. I went to her last week to get my hair done showed her a picture and told her what I wanted and she did the opposite thing that I did not want to!!! They are so rude and have no manners whatsoever! My mum found Garbos simply by driving by. When she came home from her haircut - we barely recognised her - it was fabulous! I've been getting my colour done at the Paul Mitchell school (I'm cheap ;-) ) but decided to give Garbos a try. I can say that I will DEFINITELY be going back to Garbos!! Andy did my cut and colour yesterday and it is fabulous! He completely understood what I wanted and made my hair look wonderful!! I've been wanting to go slightly lighter blonde for a while, but no one seemed to be able to do it properly. (I've got dark blonde hair naturally.) I haven't been back to Garbo's for quite some tine, since before moving to the SF Bay Area back in 2014. I usually don't plan ahead when it comes to getting my hair cut; most often it hits me when I glance in the mirror after putting a hat on and see what I can only describe as an ostrich nest wearing a yamaka two sizes too small. Hair gel is great but even it has limits... It's time. I was in the area and drove by the shop which opened @ 9am, that gave me 30 minutes to to grab a bagel and a brew across the street @ East Coast Bagel. (Their Cheezy Jalapeño as well as the Pizza Bagel are a couple of my favorites.) I returned to Garbo's a few minutes before 9am; Andy was at his station getting ready for his morning. - "Hi Andy, good morning! Do you have time for a haircut, nothing fancy... 'Just a basic clean up." I told him if he was still setting up for the day, no rush, I can wait. After all, technically the shop was not yet open for business. Also, he may have had an appointment scheduled for the morning. Fortunately for me, he was ready for business and had some time! - "THANK YOU!" I took a seat and Andy got to work! We talked story, caught up on things. BTW - If you need to get in to see Andy do it before the first of the month, he's going on vacation the first week of April. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until he returns. As I mentioned earlier, it has been a while since I've been to Garbo's Salon and as we chatted Andy brought up things that we spoke about on one of my last visits... I did mention, "It was a while ago, right?" He remembered me and what we discussed, that completely floored me. Now, that's one helluva memory! (Tips hat) - "Most impressive good sir!" About 20 minutes into the haircut, an older lady walked in; Andy acknowledged her and said that he'd be with her in shortly. She strolled pass the reception counter and waiting area. I glanced in her direction, gave a small smile which was unacknowledged as she seated herself in salon chair. So, from my short observation: 1. Ms. Snobby Bottom either had an appointment and I snuck in before her in which she didn't like the idea of having to wait 5-10 minutes. Or... 2. She's just Ms. Snobby Bottom. LOL - Hey, both could be true! My money is on the latter! After all this is South OC where even the homeless prefer bills over loose change and also accept checks & credit cards. (Note: If your contribution is under $10, a small service fee may apply.) Andy is awesome! He's a down-to-earth guy, no narcissistic attitude, no air of self-importance, makes the whole haircutting experience nice & enjoyable. I won the "Pop-in" lotto by taking a chance to see if Andy had time to cut my hair this particular morning. However, next time I'll call ahead and schedule an appointment. The planets may not align for me the next time around! HA! If you're looking for a new place to try or are new to the area, give Garbo's Salon a try and hopefully you'll like the team and your haircut as much as most of my fellow yelp*ers do! Backstory: I was in desperate need of a haircut and style. It had been over a year and a half since I had even had a trim. I've had a few bad cuts in my day and I'm always a very reluctant to do anything too extreme with my thick, dark hair. Even the idea of a trim can freak me out, but even I was getting desperate to make a change. Like so desperate, I might have started cutting my own hair unassisted. So I sucked it up and Helen worked me in on a Sunday afternoon. I knew the style I wanted was going to cost me 5 or 6 inches of growth, but I was prepared for the length loss; however, you can imagine my surprise (and horror,) when Helen began razoring the ever loving hell out of my hair after the wash, before even cutting it. I remained quiet as I watched my hair fall to the ground in large, uneven chunks...wondering if I should cry now or when I get home. Then Helen began to perform what was nothing short of magic. She was so fast, so precise.. and I walked out of that salon with the best cut I have ever had. Ever. One of the best parts, this cut was 4X cheaper then what I've previously paid at other places in the past. I love Helen and this salon. I came here w family and the appointment was booked by a family member for 2 of us. The receptionist who also works here- her name is Christy is the person who greeted us upon entering. Wife of Andy. If you can call it a greeting. She was rude and told us she didn't have any appointment booked for us. Acted like my cousin never called a week in advance to book the appointment. She said we can only do one of you we are busy. Was totally unapologetic. Another person working here who heard what was going on "volunteered" to take me on in between a color she was working on for someone else bc she felt bad for me. Mind you I only came in for a wash and blow out. Not a big deal, right? I am giving 2 stars and not 0 stars because Ziba made time for me and was so lovely. I also have wavy hair he cut my hair dry, without washing or even spraying water so the cut is uneven. They charged me $40 for the just the cut which doesn't worth it. Andy is absolutely amazing! I've been going to Garbos Salon to Andy for 3-4 years now! I have super curly hair which is not easy to cut or highlight but he always does a fantastic job!
