I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately I may have gotten the bad batch of chips! Chips (which most places don't give with drive thru orders) were stale and I really wanted to enjoy them while eating my Egg & Bean Breakfast Burrito. The drive thru service was amazing. The lady who helped me was very helpful and extremely nice, which was cool and somewhat made my morning. They have some good specials during the week and every time I drive by there are plenty of people in both the drive thru and in the restaurant. Breakfast Bean and Egg Burrito was really good and the salsa that came with it was not spicy but it was flavorful which made up for it. **Very disappointing experience** I ordered a chicken chimichanga through the drive-thru, but when I got home, I discovered that I had been given a beef chimichanga instead. I called the restaurant, explained the mistake, and was told they would remake it. I drove back to exchange the incorrect order. Unfortunately, when I got home the second time, although the chimichanga was now chicken, it was missing the toppings/extras that normally come with it, including lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. On top of that, it clearly had not been fried long enough and was more like a greasy burrito than a properly prepared chimichanga. I called again to let them know that the overall experience was unacceptable. Unfortunately, the woman who answered the phone responded with an attitude that came across as essentially, "oh well," rather than any genuine concern or attempt to make the situation right. Mistakes happen, but this was a series of mistakes followed by a lack of customer service. I ended up throwing the meal away, wasting $13, and still had to go somewhere else to get dinner. Over the many years we have been coming customer service has been hit or miss. There have been a few that a consistent with excellent customer service, and lately the customer service has been a lot better. So, we have been coming more often. I really like their quesadilla, the cheese blend is awesome and I think they put butter inside, which gives it good flavor. The beans are delicious too. read more

We enjoy going to Garcia Jojo's, love their shredded beef, their rice is ALWAYS on point, their beans... meh. However, we went last night and ordered the shredded beef tacos, and I got the taquitos with rice and beans. The shells on the tacos were stale, my taquitos tasted old, like they had been fried again and the rice was old like it had been sitting for quite some time. It was hard, not undercooked hard, but like it was the bottom of the dish, hard and crunchy. It was not good, at all! However, their churros were delish! Disappointed!!!! I mean you're spending 50 bucks at the drive thru, we could have gone in and eaten somewhere cheaper than that. read more

I decided to try again last month. I ordered the same and checked it before leaving, the order was perfect. I figured the new ownership had settled in. I went by today and ordered my usual lg super nachos with shredded beef. I checked before leaving to make sure all the toppings were there. When I got home and started to eat there was no shredded beef (the melted cheese covers the meat, so I didn't notice). They instead gave me what I assumed was ground beef? It appeared to be pureed ground beef with a filler. It had no flavor and the texture was downright gross! I tried to eat it after paying $17 for it, but after a few bites I just had to throw it away and cook something else. I'm pretty sure this will be the last time I will eat there. After messing up 2 out of 3 of my orders, I can only imagine how many other people are disappointed in the ownership change. read more

How disappointing to go in and purchase a carne asada tostada and find that you play over ten dollars to get the cheapest cut of steak meat that resembles ground meat and then you bring it to the attention of the manager and then she tells the owner and the owner comes over upset because he gets called out on using cheaper ingredients. First time here, was looking for a place to order some breakfast burritos. I asked for two with bacon but their speaker system in the drive through was quite old it was pretty difficult to hear the young lady. When I got to the window she didn't hear me say 2 so they had to make another, service was good, quickly adjusted and had another made, she was friendly and understood. As far as the food, truthfully the burritos were mediocre, I wouldn't buy those from there again. Did not eat in. Ordered chicken tamales and sides for an Xmas Eve home meal. The sides of beans and rice were serviceable and unremarkable. However, upon arrival home, unwrapping the foil from the tamales revealed an acrid smell that reminded me of cigarettes. My daughter suggested that "pot smell" was more accurate. The husks were charred black on one end, and the burnt stench had permeated throughout the semi-blackened masa and chicken filling. I wished I had seen them at the restaurant as I would not have taken them. The only way to set fire to tamales is to allow the water in the steamer to boil off completely. How could these have been allowed past quality control? Would they have served them at home to their tia? Seriously never returning. Blech! read more

Hometown favorite and sooooo many great options to chose between. There is easy access for plenty of free parking. There is only 1 Garcias in Modesto so it will be easy to find. You will have a hard decision with all the delicious options their menu board has to offer. You can dine inside out out, depending on weather and your preferences. The staff is always nice and welcoming. They get your order accurate and the food is always made fresh to order. There is a reason this establishment has been around for as long as it has. My husband was dying to take me to this place bc it's been around for sooooo many years, and they're soooooo good. Well.... sorry husband, but no. This place was OK. It wasn't like he hyped it up to be. To me. We both ordered the 2 taco plate. He got 2 beef and I got 1 beef and 1 shredded chicken. They tasted like commercialized tacos. Idk. Nothing fancy to me. I liked that their shredded cheese was freshly grated, and their salsas were good. The refried beans were super greasy, and their rice was good. I really liked their setup though. How can you not like Garcia & Jojo's for what they are, fast food Mexican. Easily 10x better than del taco and considerably better than Taco Bell. Classic Americanized fast food Mexican. Go for the bean and cheese burritos, nachos, and crispy tacos with shredded cheese not the chili verde or Colorado. Good hot semi affordable fast food Mexican. In a pinch for food ideas and looking for something that will make the whole family happy? Garcia JoJo's was our spot while visiting family in Modesto. In the 3 weeks we were there we probably went here 5 times and each time it hit the spot! My sister, my husband and I are all vegetarian and it's often a challenge to find Mexican spots that don't make their refried beans in lard. Garcia JoJo's has vegetarian beans, and I can tell you I happily ordered their bean burrito and crunchy bean tacos each time we visited. Hubs ordered the vegetarian burrito each time and loved it, while my teen really liked the carne asada burrito and crunchy chicken tacos. I'm a fry gal and gotta usually get them if they have them and Garcia JoJo's has Bomb fries! Perfectly crisp outside, and soft inside. Loved them and so did my kiddos and niece and nephew! And the red salsa...are you kidding me? How is it SO good? Like for sure it's one of my top 5 red salsas I've tried. Perfectly mild, yet still flavorful. Several times we visited they were pretty busy with the drive thru line wrapping around outside the building, but the service was always quick and efficient. Not too sure about the bad reviews on service, as the people who always helped us were always really kind (even on our last visit when we came right at closing time, they still happily helped us!) word to the wise, the closing time posted online says 10pm, but it's actually 9pm! This spot has been opened since 1980, and I can see why. It's a great place for Mexican food. Definitely will come again when we are in the area. read more

It's a taqueria. Very much like thousands of other taquerias in California. Pros: it's clean; the food is fine even if only average; the prices are good; it's fast; great for large takeout orders. Cons: styrofoam and plastic-it's all disposable; the food is just average, not bad but not special. The red salsa is average. The green salsa is to die for. I won't go back. I care about the planet. Don't want to put more plastic in the landfill. read more

My husband usually picks up dinner here, and the food is consistently tasty, especially the salsa. He loves the Chile Colorado and Chile Relleno, and we have no complaints about anything else we've ordered here. Today my son asked for Garcia JoJo's after school. I was surprised to hear an effervescent, professional, and helpful person take our order. I wanted to try something different, so he helped me decide. I couldn't stop smiling because this guy was so friendly, something rare to see/hear these days. My son said he deserved a raise and should train people how to act in food service. When I drove up to the window and asked who took our order, she pointed to the man standing behind her. Turned out it was Jojo, the owner! Wish we could inject that enthusiasm and friendliness into every food service worker, or anyone suffering with anxiety and depression. Thanks Jojo, service like this is rare. WORST EXPERIENCE YET... Been going to Garcia JoJos for years and was just somehow charged $16.47 for a large "medium" order of nachos. Now how was this? I originally ordered a medium nachos and it came in a box that's about 3"x3"... that was originally $11.47... I asked if they could please change the order to the large as we didn't realize it was going to be so small... especially for the price. Told him I was happy to pay the difference. The manager rolled his eyes and said he can't, he said no, there's no way to do that, they cannot and will not do that. I asked what size the small was and he held up the same container for the medium. After asking again, he said look all he could do was charge for ANOTHER order of medium nachos and then he would make the small into a large. So I said, okay whatever, and gave him my card, as we now had other food going bad at this point. So he said to drive to the front and so we did and we waited for him to bring the "new" nachos. Which looked exactly like the original nachos but just in a burned up "large" container. I can't believe that we were treated this way after being a loyal customer for YEARS. It's a disgrace, and honestly, it's to the point I'd just rather go to Maria's, and so should you, they are open 24/7 and I have never had a single problem, no one argues and they actually care about their customer and they don't play games with your food. (The old owner of Garcia JoJos used to be awesome). Now mind you, we couldn't even eat the nachos after seeing the game being played, and the cheese was so hard you couldn't even cut it, (assuming from being microwaved again and again), made me VERY suspicious as to what actually transpired from the time they "remade" the nachos they charged me an addition $5 for...
