I have come here since I was a little girl it's always been one of my favorite places. This last time was the worst experience I have ever had. We ordered chicken tacos....got home and it was pork also ordered it w no onions there was onions. Called to tell them and they said sorry you took to long to order and I repeated it to you. First of all we could barely understand you on there and what you repeated was not what was on our receipt. It doesnt matter how long a customer takes to order when they are trying to find something they like on a menu. Never had such terrible customer service. So first time I came here was for breakfast burrito. Chorizo and egg with potatoes. It was amazing. Made it a super for .90 cents extra. A little pricy overall. Came back for an asada burrito. Made it a super. It was horrible. It was all beans and avocado. Super nasty. Very little steak. And the steak that I did have was straight GRISTLE. i will not be comming back to this establishment. I don't understand the negative reviews! We live out of town now but this was a go to spot when my husband and I were in high school in the late 80's. We decided to go to lunch here because we were in town and we were not disappointed! I ordered two ground beef tacos and my husband had the large bean burrito and regular nachos. I felt like we had taken a trip back in time because the food was just the same...AWESOME!!! The chips and salsa are great not much kick in the salsa but the flavor is great. This place used to be good but something has happened. Every once and awhile I get a friendly person who takes my order, or greets me in the drive through. The last couple of times at the drive through, one of the ladies that has been there for a long time is very rude. Also, she is very stingy with handing out cups of salsa. Last time when ordered several items, I believe it was 4 or 5 items, I was told I could only have 2 cups of salsa or else she would charge me extra! Am I supposed to have my 7 year old son dip his taco in my salsa? If my daughter has a runny nose should he share her salsa with my son? How cheap is this place! If a customer asks for 3 small cups of salsa when he or she orders 3 items, give them some salsa and do it wish a smile, don't tell them "ohh I can't give you 3 salsas, I will have to charge you for the extra one." That is tacky.. very tacky. The food hasn't been good lately either. Get it together. Be nice to your customers, don't be cheap with your salsa. read more

The beans are canned, the rice had no flavor, the tortilla was put in the microwave. The tortilla was not crispy. It was chewy. I had more lettuce than anything else. Worst spot in Modesto. Go to your nearest taco truck. The guy on the headset is rude to his drive thru customers. First and last time. I have come to the conclusion that I do not have the same tastes as other Modestans. Nearly all of the places I have tried based on Yelp reviews have left me disappointed. Garcia JoJo's was no exception. I ordered the street style steak burrito, but it was not street style at all. It seemed like it had been grilled in grease and it still ended up falling apart. Happy to go there anytime I am feeling Mexican food. Fast, fresh and delicious every time. The owner is there most of the time and is a true joy to talk to. He even works the drive thru and gets the order done while conversing with you. I met him at the window today and he told me he is 71 years old and has had the restaurant for 41 years. This place was absolutely repulsive me and my brother had carnitas nachos and enchilada with a taco The carnitas were bland and extremely old tasted like they had been sitting out all day, the sour cream and beans in my nachos had an extremely bland and unpleasant taste. Me and my brother love food and I hate wasting food this is literally one of the only times in my life where we have walked away from a meal. My brother said that his enchilada sauce as well as rice and beans and hamburger meat we're completely disgusting his plate looks like a pile of vomit when we left. No. Not so wonderful. Not even so good in my opinion. Plain average fast food. I know it's fast food, and I see this place almost everyday when I go to work in the morning between 6 and 7 am. The sign says they are open for breakfast, but not for the 7 o'clock crowd. I would have tried the breakfast menu many times at least for convenience, but if it's anything like the dinner menu I've tried, then they can stay closed as long as they want. MSG maybe? I'm not usually a yelper unless the situation really blows me away, and this one did. I've been a customer here for as long as I can remember. Tonight I went through the drive thru right before closing. We ordered a 6 pack of tacos, half shredded beef, half shredded chicken. While ordering I asked for a side of mole and the girl taking my order rudely replied with we don't have mole. I said okay what do you put on your enchiladas? She replies with attitude, enchilada sauce. Okay fine. We pull up to the window, instantly you get a feeling of misery from the three young female workers. She opens the window, no hi how are you, just the total, no please, no thank you. Slams the window shut. We ask her later for a side of salsa, "it comes with it *shuts window*" I was going to let this horrible customer service go until we get home and realize they gave us all chicken tacos. I decided to call, very politely I ask for the manager, the girl on the phone says yup, what can I help you with? I say.... I'd like to speak to the store manager, she's says I AM the manager. I told her my issue. She said we're closed now you can bring your tacos back in the morning! What in the world?! I said okay just because I know she's not the manager, so I will call back tomorrow and speak to the real manager. I couldn't believe how rude she was. I asked if she was the one who took my order she says "yes, I put it in right." So I guess she assumed I was lying. I asked her her name, Olivia. Not to mention, the wrong tacos were horrible. Fell apart immediately and the chicken was completely dry. Don't waste your money here. Clearly you have to be a miserable, ungrateful girl to work here. Have gotten plenty of breakfast burritos here and enjoy them because it's like homemade real food. Ordered the same burrito as usual and got to my office to eat and found it barely had any filling. Burrito was mostly tortilla and half the size as usual. Didnt cut the price in half so now half the burrito at the same price. read more

Well to say with 2* I'm very disappointed I had the torta and it looks like I got a hotdog. We also had a medium nacho with chicken and the forgot to put on sour cream when the cashier specifically asked if it was ok to have on the nachos. WHOEVER Works on Thursdays makes their food very well every other day of the week is horrible. Do not go here on any other day but THURSDAY! There will be multiple hairs in every meal you get. ALSO they microwave their nachos in their styrofoam To go containers right in front of you from the to go window and there has been multiple nachos we've ordered and there is holes on the bottom of a Every container. Holy cow, this place is AMAZING! So the food isn't super "authentic," they use a lot of mixed cheeses and some of the foods seem rather Americanized (I believe they only serve crunchy tacos), but I could care less because every single thing I have ever tried there has been delicious. The combos are basically all around $4 - $5.50 and you get a good amount of food, I usually go there when I'm starving and get an enchilada/taco combo and then get a small quesadilla which I dip into the red sauce of my enchilada. The shredded beef tacos are SUPER juicy and tasty, and are absolutely perfect. They definitely don't skimp out on the cheese because my beans and enchilada are always covered in it, which I love. You also get a ton of red sauce with the enchiladas which I spoon over my beans to make them even more delicious. Basically, the prices are extremely good for the amount of food that you get, and everything tastes delicious. The environment seems strange at first (it almost feels like being in someone's living room) but after a while it starts to feel really warm and inviting. I love this place and I only wish I lived closer. The owner is also a very nice guy, I always hear him talking to customers and being friendly with everyone. Garcia Jo Jo's has and always will be one of my favorite places to eat. I was born and raised in Modesto and grew up eating there. I now live in southern california and every time I make my way up north I make it a point to stop and stuff my face. Everything on the menu is tasty, especially the shredded beef burrito/taco, and rice/beans. The salsa as well goes hand in hand with everything on the menu. It is a very family oriented restaurant and Ive even met Jo Jo himself a couple times during my visits. I'll be passing through town in two weeks and Garcia Jo Jo's is on my itinerary!
