If you need to service your Subaru go elsewhere. Every time we take our Ascent in to get serviced there is always some sort of unnecessary issue. Additionally they do not know how to keep an appointment. For my latest issue I had an apt at 7:30am. Was the first person there to drop off my car, was told it would take a few hours. Called hours later and was given the run around and no info so I decided to just go down there. Walked in around noon and when I inquired about my car, I was again given the runaround only to finally discover they hadn't even pulled my car into the bay to look at it! Nate Crosbie took care of us and made our experience seamless. We came in just to look because we were considering multiple vehicles to replace our 2018 Forester. Luckily they had a used Lexus and Toyota we were also considering. Getting to compare them all in one spot made things super easy for us. We ended up getting a 2025 Forester. Nate was great in getting all the cars for us to compare including a recent Forester trade in. He answered a lot of questions we had and it was in line with the research we already did. This was my girlfriend's car and she said it was a great experience for her because she didn't feel any type of sales pressure during the process. When she test drove a 2025 Forester, she loved it. I took my 2020 Outback in for a check engine light. Diagnosis was PO 137 & 138. Julian Garcia told me it was failure of secondary transmission sensor caused oil to leak into and saturate wiring harness system. $10,282 plus tax to fix. I later found that PO 137/138 actually refers to sensor failure on the catalytic converter on the exhaust system. No evidence of oil leaking near the transmission. No evidence of oil saturating the wiring system. The new part cost $160 and a friend replaced in 30 minutes. I have been a Subaru owner for over 25 years and never mistreated like this. Bought my Outback here last year. They give you free oil changes for 2 years or up to 25,000 miles. I had been to California and back, a bit ago adding to the miles, so it was about time. Chelsea and Drew in the service department are great. They are hospitable and make your stay enjoyable while the service is being done. Since it is post Christmas, everyone and their cousins are here for service. It should take about an hour and a half. They have a spacious waiting room with coffee , hot chocolate, and snacks with a big screen TV to make the time pass. I will be back at next oil change! read more

It's no wonder this place has received a less than good rating. Took my car in for AC condenser replacement 3 TIMES. 3rd time they wasted 3Hrs for the service manager to come out and tell me I needed a condenser. Duh! After 4 more hours (yes 7 hours total) the repair was completed. Even though I have the extended warranty, service manager Bill wanted to charge me over $1,000!! I told him I wanted to talk to the owner. He would not agree to that. After much arguing, he threw my keys at me and said "Don't come back". That doesn't seem like a very good business model to me. This is a story of what started as a good relationship and became a real revelation of how scummy this place is. The good: when the pandemic first started, subaru was desperate. We were able to trade our old SUV for decent value and get into a brand new Subaru at 0% financing. I will admit I absolutely hate dealing with car dealerships. I have friends that used to work as sales people and all have have told me the same: they like to sell high and buy low. Luckily, the state of the world at the time was really odd and all sales were over the phone and vehicle delivered to my home. Good deal . The shadiness comes in the periods that followed. First instance, we received a targeted email saying they are offering to take in our car as a trade and we could get into a new current year/same model car for something like $5 more a month. I put a lot of miles on my vehicles, so I gave this consideration. I go in only to have the sales person evaluate my trade and then come back saying, we could get you into a new car for +$170 over your current payment with the trade. I literally laughed in the guys face and left. The vehicle came with free oil changes, so we continued to bring it to Garcia to get those fulfilled. During one of the visits, I was told the cabin air filter needed replacement. They quoted me $30 some dollars to do it. I'm no amateur in doing some things myself with vehicles. They typically run around $10-15 and are easy to replace yourself. That being said, I declined the service. We I get called up to pick up my vehicle, they present me with a bill for replacing the filter I clearly asked them not to replace. I was livid. I told them I did not want that done and basically got a "we're sorry" response. I was on my lunch break and just decided to eat it. Clearly not an honest business. Looking at other reviews on this site, it's clear I'm not an outlier. Take care in doing your research before getting service or purchasing a new vehicle. He is the bomb to work with and is totally no pressure. He goes the extra mile to make sure that you find what suits you. My advice DON'T EVER GET WORK DONE ON YOUR CAR FROM THESE INCOMPETENT CROOKS! We are on a road trip and our transmission goes out Friday right in Albuquerque. We call several places no luck except at Garcia Subaru, they book us at 10am on Monday. We rent a car and continue our drive because we knew we would drive back the way we came and just pick the car up. We make it back into town on Monday and wait to hear from the dealership. At about 2:30 we call for an update, no one at the service center is working!? Not only that but the "team" that works on transmission only works on Saturdays. Sadly this was the weirdest and worst experience I have ever had with a dealership. They wanted to appraise my vehicle 5K under the lowest kbb value. They said they refuse to take outside lenders because they don't get paid when they like to by them which I have NEVER heard in my experience of purchasing vehicles. I wanted to purchase a New Subaru Crosstrek and was willing to put the deposit to hold it but they were adamant on me buying a used vehicle (probably because they're getting more for used than new which I won't do) I was adamant that I wanted new and thats when the sales manager kept going back and forth to talk to someone making it clear they only wanted to do Buisness if I bought used as well. The guy helping was nice still not pleasant but the experience was everything but nice. Update to add... they appraised my vehicle at an extremely low value (slap in the face quite honestly) went to another dealer who gave me top dollar for my trade in...... you guys aren't struggling to stay in Buisness because of the market your struggling because you're trying to rip people off and your reviews show it. read more

While sitting in the lobby for service, I witnessed many instances of unprofessional am from the Sales staff. The incident that stood out most to me in addition to multiple conversations containing profanity was someone in the Sales department on the phone with a customer. After a conversation in which she said she wasn't understanding what the customer was saying because she thought "there was a dog barking in the background" she gave the customer some brusk instructions and then hung up the phone and said "Fuck that". I can't imagine what they say about me when I am not present. Again, I cannot emphasize enough how much I would not recommend this business. This was a necessary service appointment for me as my new vehicle only came with one functioning key and I needed the second key, but I will never return again. read more

They would not sell me a vehicle because I did not have a trade in and wanted to pay cash. Worse they waited until I had test drove the car and had my checkbook out to tell me thisI already had a quote to sell my truck to CarMax for the blue book value of $40,000. Garcia said they'd take it as a trade in but only for $30000! When I showed them the blue book and asked why the difference they said my truck was a gas guzzler. ????? Anyway. Those were my choices: take a $10000 hit in the trade in or no new Subaru. I said I'll just pay cash for the sticker and go sell my truck at CarMax and THAT'S when they told me the only sell a car to people with trade-ins. This textbook bait and switch and violates New Mexico's Unfair Practices Act. Go anywhere else but avoid the Garcia Dealerships. PS. CarMax paid me the full $40,0000. read more

Refused to sell an available vehicle to a cash customer: I viewed new car inventory online for Garcia Subaru North on February 15, 2022 and identified a 2022 Subaru Legacy Premium offered for sale. It was listed as in stock with Stock # X220305. I downloaded the window sticker and clicked through the site to request an ePrice and confirm the vehicle's availability. I received an email reply on February 16, 2022 from Aubrey Padilla, General Manager, indicating the vehicle was in transit, expected in March, and that the ePrice was the Manufacturer's Suggested Price $27,458. The email asked whether I would be trading in a vehicle. I replied that I would be paying cash for the full amount and requested information on the drive-off price. I did not receive a reply from Aubrey Padilla and visited the Garcia Subaru North dealership on February 17, 2022 to find answers to my questions. I spoke with a salesman named Ben about the vehicle. He confirmed that it was in transit and had not been sold. He asked if I would be trading in a vehicle and if I would be seeking financing. I repeated that I had no trade and that I would be paying cash for the entire purchase price. I requested the drive-off price for the vehicle and, after some delay was told that the total price was $28,968. I explored several add-on options and told Ben that I was ready to proceed with a purchase. Ben asked if I had any vehicle to offer in trade, as they were short of used car inventory. I indicated that I had a 2005 Ford which I planned to sell to a friend for 8,000, but if they could exceed that in trade-in, I would consider it. I stated that otherwise I would proceed with a cash purchase. Ben consulted with his manager and returned to tell me that they could offer me $2,000 for my Ford. I stated that this was not acceptable and that I wanted to proceed with a cash purchase. Ben then stated that all incoming inventory was being reserved for customers with vehicles to trade. I asked Ben to repeat this, and confirmed that Garcia would not let me write a check and purchase the advertised vehicle at the advertised price. I asked to speak to his manager who confirmed this practice. I was told that they needed trade ins so that they could mark them up in order to offset lower advertised prices. I expressed my extreme frustration with this practice and indicated that I felt it was misleading as there was no statement of this condition either online or on the sales floor. The manager repeated this policy and confirmed that they would not accept a cash payment for the advertised price. I consider refusal to sell an available vehicle to a cash customer at the advertised price to be a deceptive practice. I would recommend staying away from this dealer. read more

A final update 1/31/2018 After taking my car in the last time Subaru seems to have made it right. I received a call from Rocky right away telling me to bring it in right away. He held a car for me as a loaner until I could get it towed in. He and John agreed that I would not pay for the additional repairs which is great. I picked up my car on Saturday and so far everything is alright. I am still a little weary, but felt the need to update. Subaru has made sure to take care of a customer. If it weren't for Rocky, I probably would go elsewhere. I have a lot of experience with Subaru's but this has been the oddest overall. I may take it there for the 100,000 mile service and see how it goes from there. Updated review 1/24/2018 1-star I am updating because of issues caused after service at your store and am incredibly sad, frustrated, angry, and whatever other words you can think of. Note the irony of my review yesterday and today. I also want to have a record of the issues I've been having. I first had issues on Monday, Jan 15. I called multiple times, with no answers or return calls. I scheduled online service and finally was patched through after calling for a few hours, to John. My 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport had a problem. It was stuck in reverse and was revving high. I was at 99,997 miles, within my warranty. After speaking with John he assured me that it would be covered under warranty with my $100 deductible. He gave me prices without the warranty as well to keep me informed. John also provided the number to get my car towed. This was great service. However, upon picking up my car on Tuesday afternoon, I still had problems. I spoke with Rocky, who is a great service advisor and always friendly. Rocky told me to bring it back in and they would check it out. They had repaired my clutch and bearings along with the 97500 mile service. My total cost was $472.41. After driving less than 3 miles from the store, the Hill Assist light turned on. I took photos of the light at the milage when I was at a stoplight. I again scheduled service because this was not an issue previously. I assumed it was related to the recent repairs made by Subaru. I visited again yesterday Tuesday, Jan 23 at 8:00 AM. Rocky took notes based on my service schedule and assured me once again that it would be taken care of, along with checking out the wiring that I'd been having problems with in my driver's side headlights. (They'd been replaced 3 times since August.) I left with confidence my problems would be taken care of. After again, picking up my vehicle and driving home in traffic, MORE lights start to turn on. Now my cruise control light is flashing, the hill assist light is on, the check engine light is one, and the traction control light is on. This indicates there is a problem with the differential. I had to attend a class at 7 pm, so I thought maybe it was just a fluke and it would reset after turning the car off and on for a period of time. This did not happen. Instead, I ended up calling my family to follow me to their house where I could safely park the car for the night. I had to be taken home by a family member, which was inconvenient and frustrating. I am worried about driving my car and refuse to drive it to Subaru again in fear it will break down on the freeway. My car has always been in the service center according to maintenance schedule and only at authorized subaru dealerships. I have each service record that indicates this to be true. I am disappointed in Garcia Subaru North's service and hope you make it right, at no cost to me. I have been a loyal customer since 2011 when I purchased my car and well before that with my friend who took his SVX to the formerly Gallas and Davis in the same area. My confidence in your particular service center is waning and I am extremely frustrated and upset. I have now had 3 days where I have either been late to work or had to take a day off of work due to no transportation. This should have all been resolved after the first visit. I sincerely hope that Garcia Subaru makes this right and that I receive a phone call regarding this issue promptly. My car is sitting at my families house ready to be towed to Subaru. It would be even better, if I was refunded the money I've paid in the past week alone to repair my car with poor craftsmanship and work. I am very disappointed, which is an understatement.
