Food was really good and fresh. The 5 Hour Robert's corned beef special was really good. I had it with eggs over easy. The dish comes with O'Brien potatoes. Definitely a hearty breakfast. The restaurant is in a sketchy area and parking can be a challenge.

Absolutely loved our visit! We had a bomb breakfast here -- the crab cake Benedict was rich and perfectly cooked, and the breakfast tacos were packed with flavor. We washed it all down with Micheladas, which were on point, and the lemon water was incredibly fresh and refreshing. Portions were huge, so come hungry! The real highlight, though besides the excellent service, was the garden seating -- super cute, cozy, and such a relaxing place to sit and enjoy a meal. Amazing food, great drinks, generous portions, and a beautiful atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!

This spot is an absolute must-visit. The breakfast alone is worth the trip--massive portions and incredible flavor. Do yourself a favor and order the cinnamon roll pancake. No syrup needed; it's perfectly sweet all on its own. The salmon burger is another standout. It's a real salmon fillet, grilled just right and served on a soft, delicious bun. Total yum. Don't skip the fish tacos, either. Honestly, this menu has it all--from hearty breakfasts to filling lunches. Great sandwiches, tasty omelettes, flavorful tacos... whatever you're craving, you'll find something you love here. You won't be disappointed. This place absolutely belongs on your San Rafael restaurant bucket list.

Had a delicious brunch on Saturday at 12:30. 17 minute wait but worth it. I had Wake-up Scram and GF had Chilliquilies. Amazing sauce and flavors. Strong coffee and amazing smoothie. Had to wait for sourdough toast but they were super-busy. Will be back to try other food options. Everything we saw looked fantastic. 5 star!

The motto on the sandwich board says "Come Hungry and Leave Happy!" No lies detected. Came here for breakfast when I needed to break my fast after a medical procedure that required I abstain from food for over 24 hours. What a fortuitous find! The banana pancakes were fluffy and moist with a lovely whipped cream to top it off along with a decorative orchid. We also shared the garden omelette which is just a twist on the scramble. It was chock full of delicious asparagus, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and myriad other delights along with feta cheese. The service was friendly and fast, and the decor of the patio was sweet and homey. The only less than perfect menu item was the biscuit that was a bit dry. Also, a few more strategically placed heaters out on the patio would have been nice. Minor quibbles for such a great place -- my new go-to for breakfast in San Rafael!

Came here for a holiday work brunch and we were seated in their covered, heater filled, patio. The patio even had a water fountain. Super cute. The menu is huge and reasonably priced (about $15-$23 an entree) from several different types of Benedict's, pancakes, French toast, and lots of other specials. They had it all! The portions were also generous so I totally understand why this place is so popular. The service was friendly and efficient too. Parking can be a bit tough but you can snag a spot in the Safeway lot or do street parking (2 hour max on the meter tho).

Garden Cafe sits on the alleyway next to Safeway in San Rafael. We lucked out and found a parking spot in the alley. There is a small parking lot, but its has signs saying that the parking is for another restaurant. On a previous visit I was amazed at how roomy the place is, because from the outside it looks as if it might be tiny. There are tables outside under umbrellas, but there is also a large indoor dining area, in addition to the popular outdoor patio seating. I remembered that I had enjoyed myself the first time so, I brought my husband. Service is warm and friendly. We were seated immediately, coffee and water came quickly, and there was not a long wait for the food to arrive. One of the dishes that everyone loves here are the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. But I ordered a bacon, spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelet. It was ok, but the eggs could have used a little more flavor. It seemed as though the bacon, cheese, mushrooms, and spinach were prepared separately from the eggs and then assembled. My rye toast was overdone with a blob of unspread butter on one half of the slices. My husband did say he liked the potatoes. All of that being said, my experience was not unpleasant it just didn't convince me to abandon my usual breakfast spot. I would still like to try the Crab Benedict and the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, so I'll probably go back ;-)

The food and service were amazing. The smoothies and juices are super refreshing. The fries were freshly made and super crispy but tender on the inside. The sandwich was well seasoned and the veggies were crisp and fresh. The potatoes were super tender and the chorizo was nice and crunchy. It's a brunch spot so lots of chatter but it's lively and the employees are all super helpful and attentive. We are from out of town and found this place and they offer indoor seating or outdoor or patio! They even have a furry friend menu. Super cute!!!!

We loved this place so much that we came back again and brought the family. They were super accommodating and set up a two tables for our large group. Once again the service was phenomenal. We were greeted with a big welcome back, hugs, and smiles. The staff were extremely nice. Everyone loved the food and the service. One family member even said it's the best breakfast he's had in a really long time. We even got a nice plate of churros to share with the table. Delicious. Again, if you want great food and excellent service then check this place out. When we visit the area again I'll be sure to come back here. Many thanks to the owner and the team here at Garden Cafe. Came here with a group of three and we were promptly seated. The food came out very quickly and in large portions, definitely worth the money. I ordered a smoothie and they used fresh fruit in it, so the texture was a bit different from what I initially anticipated since I expected them to use frozen fruit (gummier and not as sorbet-like). It was really good though, I downed the entire thing. As for my order, I chose a club sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries. It was BIG. I could barely fit the entire thing in my hand. We ended up taking a lot of it as leftovers. The bread was well toasted and the veggies were super fresh. They use real turkey in this, not sliced deli meat!! Such a great order, a classic but a goodie. My friends ordered the salmon benedict with fresh fruit (at an additional charge) and the blackstone eggs benedict with breakfast potatoes. They both were very happy with their orders!

Garden cafe is so amazing I got the cinnamon roll pancakes and they were the best thing I put in my mouth! The area was super nice inside with all of the positive signs hung up and the overall layout of the cafe was super welcoming All of the servers were extremely friendly and even the owner was shaking everyones hands that were seated. Cute little brunch spot. Friendly service. The prices on yelp/ their website are incorrect. They are much higher in person. Ordered a kids cheeseburger well done and asked for it plain and was told that it comes plain. When we got it, it was still pink and had mayonnaise and vegetables. Got the bill and was charged for a regular burger instead of the kids. After waiting about 15 minutes for the check, it wasn't even worth talking to them about. We just wanted to leave. Food was good, staff was super friendly, but not sure if I would come back due to the burger and having to wait for the check. read more

I can't stop talking about this place! Let's start with the food. Everything is so freshly made. We have been here for breakfast and for lunch. My go to is Ruben sandwich or the Nano burger and my husband usually gets the club. Both come with plenty to eat! Today we are here for the breakfast. See pics below. The staff is very friendly and they constantly check up on you no matter how busy they are. Sat & Suns are very busy but they have a great turnover. I will not stop coming here. read more

We ate here this morning 7/5/2025. When I say the food is delicious. I had the French Toast with Egg white and a cup of fruit. The orange juice was extremely fresh. I'm fiancé had the cinnamon pancakes. He said it was so scrumptious. My sister had the Denver Omelette with spinach and a cup of fruit. Yummy she said. If you haven't gone...you're missing out. Great experience . First time coming to eat and was warmly greeted & seated right away. They have a good selection menu from breakfast to lunch options. I got the chorizo egg Benedict and it was amazzinnnggg (coming from a picky chorizo eater) it actually had flavor! My husband got the chorizo egg scramble & he enjoyed it because it was more chorizo than egg. He also the got mimosa flight that didn't disappointed in different flavors, it was more alcohol than juice! I also got a papaya & banana smoothie, it was good and over sweet. Came in today on a busy Sunday and we were seated right away, no wait so that was a score. Also there was parking nearby so that helped. Indoor and outdoor seating options, we chose to sit inside. The cafe is cute but a bit small. The servers are super friendly but very very busy! Food came out fast, we ordered pancakes and a chorizo breakfast burrito with home fries. Unfortunately our home fries were forgotten so we didn't get that until the very end and just decided to take it to go. Staff was very apologetic for forgetting. The lemonade tasted nice and fresh. Hubby enjoyed his vanilla latte with oat milk. All in all was a nice experience. Would come back to try their lunch options. read more

I ordered a late breakfast. One cappuccino one small o.j. And and two gigs over easy on top of the BEST CORNED BEEF HASH I have ever eaten!!! It is better than my own homemade version:-)!!! XX So, why is it so good: well it's not too salty and they put in green bell peppers and that adds a certain note that takes it over the top plus it's not too busy with too many ingredients and fried just right. Service was not great.... Asked th hostess her favorite item on the menu.... Her eyes acknowledged me, but nothing came from her mouth... Sorta weird. Vodka/tequila is not actually a liquor. They didn't say it at first but I asked what kind of vodka... They said it's special ... Then the next guy said it's fake Chinese alcohol.... I hope that means soju or the Chinese version.... Eggs Benedict avocados were NOT RIPE. They were hard... Someone's hand cut this avocado so must have felt it, but they decided to let it pass... Hollandaise didn't have enough acidity. My partner and I visited Garden Cafe on a Sunday for brunch and we absolutely loved it! I ordered the French Toast and my partner got a special (Salmon Fajitas) and both were delicious. The french toast was sweet and gooey, and the berries and whipped cream on top made it feel extra special. Both the french toast and the fajitas were large portions, and felt very reasonably priced for the size and quality. The service was also excellent! The staff was very kind and accommodating - they refilled our water several times during the meal and even brought us a pitcher of water when they saw how much we like to drink. Though the food and service were some of the best I've experienced recently in the Bay Area, my favorite part may have actually been the ambience and the outdoor seating. They have a small area out front to eat that is pretty basic, but most of the outdoor seating is in a big enclosed patio area. I loved this because it was separated from the outer parking area but still allowed us to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. It wasn't too crowded either - even during Sunday brunch on a 70 degree day in January. We had so much fun at Garden Cafe and are still thinking about our meal there. Food was excellent. Four of us ordered four different things and everything was so delicious! Love the outdoor vibe but being still inside sort of. The ambiance was perfect for after a long hike. Service was decent the staff were extremely friendly. Unfortunately they only have one bathroom for patrons and staff! That was probably the only downfall. Still giving it a 5 star!!! read more

Delicious burgers and breakfast food. The portion are pretty reasonably sized, maybe on the larger end. The outdoor area has a nice vivid ambience with the trees and all the vines around. Service of the place is great. This place gets super busy around the brunch rush hour, but I was able to get a table without reservations. read more

We have been patrons of their sister restaurant (Miracle Mile Cafe) for years, but amazingly had never dined here before. And just like the MMC you can count on great food every meal! The service was excellent, every person who works there seems to take ownership of every table - coffee refilled, water delivered, tables bussed - all before you even asked for it. I loved the ambience - the garden was cool even though it was one of the warmer days of the summer. The only issue you may have is finding parking, which is tight although there is street parking available on "B". My eggs were perfectly poached - and really fresh. The portion of ham was more than generous - I can't remember the last time I couldn't finish my breakfast (maybe when I was about five?). We will definitely be adding this spot to our brunch 'rotation', and look forward to trying more of their American and Latin entrees in the future. read more

This was my first time here and we loved it. The back garden area is very green and comfortable and the service was extremely sweet and attentive without being pushy. The large diverse menu has something for everyone. I just wish they were open more often so I could try not menu items. I loved my breakfast burrito! read more

I went on a hike with my friend and decided to get brunch here on a Saturday. The brunch was so yummy. I haven't had brunch food that was this tasty in a while. The food was hot and fresh. Staff was quick to serve us water and utensils and brought out our food immediately after ordering. We sat outside in the patio and enjoyed the outdoor weather. The staff even brought a fan to make sure we weren't too hot due to the warm weather. I highly recommend getting the country fried steak and French toast with berries. read more

Came here right after a hike in mill valley. Staff was super friendly and accommodating right off the bat . I Love when I walk into an establishment and it feels very inviting. Most workers seem Hispanic which would explain the wonderful hospitality . We were starving so of course got our food + a plate share . I personally got the chilaquiles verdes and they were pretty good. Authentic? Not quite but truly I don't mind. They were satisfying overall. Now let me start on the cinnamon roll pancakes...I'm not typically a sweets person but these were AMAZING!!!I cannot believe I devoured the whole plate of pancakes (almost on my own) . A cute little place with great service and pretty good food. I got the veggie burger which was tasty but incredibly difficult to eat because it was so big and the fries were good. I also had a chai which was very delicious as well. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, although slightly difficult to navigate through the small corridors between tables. read more

A few folks outside some inside. This made ordering quick and easy, and the food was prepared quickly; a benefit for us, perhaps not for the business. The place is still attractive and clean, with plenty of tables outside and inside. I did not that, as my last visit, there is no shade really provided for the outside seating, save ONE small umbrella. Ugh - not sure what the issue is, and being it was a sunny day, we opted to sit inside as much as the patio called to us. The inside is nice, too, though, and there is easy access to the soda fountain machine and condiments. There are still self-ordering kiosks, large digital menus, and of course, you can also order through the app (even if standing inside!) or at the counter. We ordered a bit of each - side, main, and dessert! There was a portabella "'Shroom" burger (with a crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun), cheese fries, a mac 'n' cheese, chicken bites, and a Key lime shake, a special offering! Damn the calories, full taste ahead! The food was indeed prepared quickly and served hot. The Shroom burger was my favorite last time, and for taste and texture this time was also delicious and good. The cheeses inside were melty-gooey, and the mushroom crispy. It was, though, much smaller than I remember - it fit within my hand! A con, against the price, for what is a nice option for veggies or anyone wanting a change in their burger. The chicken bites were smaller than expected in size, more like nuggets, but tasty. The mac 'n' cheese was also tasty, but also a bit small for the price. The fries are always good, and in this case, you need to dig to the bottom early on to scrape some of the melted cheese that dripped down back onto the fries. Very yummy. But the best part was the Key lime shake, a flavor I just love (cheesecake is my favorite iteration of this flavor) but this milkshake satisfied me greatly. A little pricier than their everyday shakes, but how often so you find a unique flavor like this! A win! Overall, a solid 4-stars for food flavor and quality, and also for ambience and environment. Price wise, it was about $40 for two of us, so not a great bargain, but given the economy today I have the same financial shock at other places as well. Still, a nice treat and we left happy.

At the end of the meal we were surprised by the panna cotta with the fruit remoulade, which we devoured in like three minutes haha! We really enjoyed all of the food, the service, and the ambiance. We only wish we lived closer, but might make the 90+ mile trip from Sacramento just for the amazing food now and then.

Located in a business center, parking here is not an issue and they were not particularly busy on a Sunday night. We were seated immediately, noticing how clean and modern the two-story gastropub looks. The food menu is more or less pub food, executed well. Mango-habanero wings were crispy and came with two dipping sauces, both delicious. We also tired the pretzel, which is on a smaller size, so next time I'll take our server's suggestion and order two. It also came with mustard and cheese for dipping. All their burgers are more or less a la carte: no fries, but chips and house pickle on the side. The burgers were fine though, with smash being smaller, but a bit tastier than their signature Monk's burger. Simplicity is sometimes the best. The beer list is expertly curated with focus on other styles besides IPA, but I assume that Russian River's Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig are always on the menu, in addition to ultra-local options. For pub fare, Monk's Kettle is a bit pricy, which is not totally unexpected in today's economy-especially knowing the area. However, elevated food, drinks, and service quality usually comes with the elevated price tag. We might not be back next time in Marin, but this was surely not the last visit to Monk's.

We had a reservation for Father's Day and waited about 10 minutes for a table to open, as it was the busiest I have seen. Planning for Mothers Day, we checked the reviews and set up the brunch 3 days in advance. We were on time to the minute The Good: The server did help us seat our large group right away by moving some tables, and he didn't lose his composure even though they were woefully understaffed and he had to deal with lots of complaints. The food, albeit a bit cold, was good. The Bad: We didn't learn until about 20 min after sitting that they were understaffed. The woman who brought coffee told us that a cook had an emergency and had to bail. And while it WAS Mothers Day, the place wasn't even full. Finally after 25 minutes our server took our order. The Ugly: Seeing how backed up the SERVER was (not the cook), I decided to help him out by taking our table's order and writing it down for him, thinking it would save time. The big problem was that he was so busy, he didn't actually ENTER our order into the computer system until we had been sitting for a WHOLE HOUR. I know because I was keeping an eye on him and I kept seeing him look at our order, begin to enter it and then get distracted by seating more people, taking (and entering) other orders, serving others their food and getting other people's checks. These are all things that he is supposed to do, but he should have entered our order when he got it. This is not hyperbole, it was a solid hour. We thought about bailing many times but with a 10 person group, getting into another place and starting the whole process over on Mothers Day seemed pointless. My mom and dad had to leave at 10:50 to open our family store. I promised to bring the food over in a togo container. At 11:20 (we arrived at 10:00), starving and angry, we got our food... sort of. The order was incomplete, one breakfast was missing, other small things missing (where's my english muffin? Did you get my juice order?) and the food was COLD, adding to my suspicion that they were also short a server. Here is what this establishment needs to learn: People deserve to know that you are understaffed BEFORE they sit down and waste a bunch of time. We wouldn't have LIKED it, but we could have gone somewhere else. And recognizing that they kinda screwed up on a $120 order (we also tipped on top of that because it really wasn't the servers fault that they were understaffed), they were SO GRACIOUS and comped our drinks... two OJs and six coffees - whoopdedoo maybe 12 whole dollars Again, I think this is a GOOD place, not great, but good. I had a lot of locals suggest this place, and today was my boyfriend's granddad's death anniversary. He wanted to go to a diner, something they used to do together. We chose this spot based on good reviews and its casual vibe, and upon entering, it definitely matched that description. However, the experience was quite mixed. When we walked in, no one greeted us, and we had to figure out seating ourselves. After asking, we were told to sit wherever we wanted, which seemed to be the norm for this local-favorite diner. Once seated, it took around 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. Even after that, communication among the staff was lacking. We had multiple people asking about drinks after we had already placed our order. It wasn't disruptive, but it was a bit annoying. The food took a while to arrive despite the diner not being busy. My boyfriend's pancakes were overly sweet and had a strange consistency, almost like they were semi-raw. His lemonade was good, and the coffee was typical diner coffee - functional but not enjoyable. I had the salmon benedict, which was a letdown. The bread was soggy, and the salmon and eggs were not warm. My father's garden scramble was missing the feta cheese, which was a key ingredient. Without it, the dish fell flat. On a positive note, my boyfriend's habanero eggs with chorizo were outstanding. They were the highlight of the meal, and I would come back just for that dish. It makes me wonder if this diner is hit or miss, excelling at some dishes while falling short on others. Overall, the service was lackluster, the space felt rundown, and there was litter around. Despite the rave reviews from locals, my experience didn't match the hype. There are elements some might love, but it wasn't for me. read more

I recently visited the Garden Cafe in San Rafael and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience. I tried their Benedict's and they were absolutely excellent - definitely one of the best I've ever had. But the real standout was their michelada, which was hands down the best I've ever tasted - even better than the ones I've had in Mexico! The staff was incredibly friendly and cheerful, which really added to the welcoming atmosphere of the cafe. In addition to the great food and drinks, I also enjoyed their melts, which were delicious and satisfying. And to top it all off, I was thrilled to see that they serve the famous cinnamon swirl pancakes from the Miracle Mile Cafe! I'm not sure if the owner owns both places, but I love them both equally. Overall, I highly recommend the Garden Cafe to anyone looking for a great brunch spot in San Rafael. It's perfect for the mimosa brunch crowd, and it's conveniently located down the street from my house, so I plan to frequent it often! read more

Last Saturday, I went out for brunch with two friends, and it was a memorable experience. We were delighted to find no wait time and were instantly charmed by the adorable decorations and good vibes of the place. I ordered my favorite, egg chilaquiles, along with amazing poached eggs. The chilaquiles were perfectly cooked, with crispy tortillas, eggs, and a rich, flavorful sauce. One friend had an omelette, stuffed with fresh vegetables and cheeses. The eggs were fluffy, and the filling was savory. She couldn't stop raving about it. Our other friend chose breakfast tacos, which were packed with seasoned meats, eggs, and vibrant salsas. We all enjoyed iced Americanos, which were refreshing and balanced. The combination of great food, excellent company, and the charming ambiance made this brunch unforgettable. My partner and I absolutely love this place! Today, we enjoyed a delicious brunch at Garden Cafe, where every meal--whether breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner--is always excellent. The menu offers a delightful fusion of traditional Mexican dishes and California cuisine. The staff is incredibly friendly, respectful, and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. They truly make every guest feel welcome. In the summer, I love sitting on the patio, but the indoor seating is just as charming, with its colorful garden-themed decor. I ordered the Macarrones Santa Maria, while my partner tried the Salmon Benedict, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. Plus, it's a dog-friendly spot, which is a big bonus. What a beautiful place i have found today, the GARDEN CAFE, who is literally next to Safeway in San Rafael has a great outdoor patio, a beautiful indoor dining, my family & i were looking for lunch place with walking distance & we were most that pleased with the service & the delicious food with a Mexican - American taste, the server was very nice, kids friendly. Employees were wearing a mask & sanitizing everything after every use, and they have delicious homemade dessert ( which got eaten right away, couldn't take a pic) but we tried their homemade Flan & homemade Churros, great new place in town ... fyi THEY HAVE TAP BEER read more

I've visited this restaurant several times, and it never disappoints. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. After seeing that picture of the eggs benedict with the overflowing hollandaise sauce and hash brown, I went to try out the breakfast everyone has been talking about. I have to say that it was one of the best eggs benedict I ever had. The hash browns were crispy and plentiful enough for 2 people. I would highly recommend this place. read more

YES, IT'S OPEN! They made some beautiful renovations and the food is great! The service was quick and I was able to eat and head back to work quickly. I had the omelet with a side of potatoes and it was delicious! Note: If you can, request to sit outside. The overall place is great but they have a really nice patio area. read more

On August 31 my friend and I had lunch on the lovely patio. It was a delightful experience from start to finish. The calamari salad was delicious but what really made this a stand-out experience was the staff: everyone was warm, friendly, attentive and kind.
