Orange chicken, doesn't lack sauce or flavor and no heartburn
    Donna S.

I have been looking for a good Asian spot since I moved to the area 7ish years ago. Of All the places I have tried in Bolingbrook/Romeoville this is hands down the best tasting. Orange chicken doesn't give you heartburn and has flavor. The pineapple chicken, beef is not chewy, hot n sour soup and ragoon on top of many many others dishes I've tried. I have absolutely no complaints and let me tell you with Asian food the bar is set high. The place is small for dine in but I prefer pickup and dine at home.

If you are looking for freshly hot, flavorful spicy Chinese food; you came to the right place! The service was great as well

Not too long ago, I had a massive fight with the mister about how the area we live in has no good Chinese food places. Now, in my defense, I'm from California and good Asian food is on every street corner - I told him I had desperately been looking for "my Chinese takeout" place - one you call and order from again and again and again. Well, after years of looking, I think I've finally found it!!! We ordered on a whim from this place, and boy, it did not disappoint! So here's a breakdown of what we ordered. Crab Rangoons - these arrived incredibly hot and fresh, and boy did they taste amazing. Little triangles of goodness; usually I don't like my foodstuff to be too sweet, and these are definitely on the sweet side, but they are oh-so-good for whatever reason! Hot and Sour Soup - I ordered a small size of the soup, and I'm glad. Although the tofu in the soup was perfect, and the other ingredients seemed to all be there, the actual base of the soup had too much soy sauce. It wasn't an awful taste, but the soup was mediocre at best. Vegetable Chow Mein Fun - oh boy, this may have been one of my favorite items we ordered! Soft, slippery, well seasoned noodles tossed with egg, and various veggies. Wonderful flavor, and cooked to perfection! Shrimp Fried Rice - these tasted good, but again, tossed with a tad too much hot sauce. The texture of the rice was good, and you could tell it was freshly made, but the addition of the soy sauce detracted from the fresh flavor. Hunan Shrimp (Spicy) - my absolute favorite part of our order. The sauce was delicious, and tossed with snap peas, baby corn, water chestnuts, green onions, broccoli, carrots, celerity and onion...this dish was absolutely delightful. What I loved best was that despite all these veggies being added to this entree, there were still plenty of shrimp, and the veggies weren't all soggy, and each had its own texture and crunch which was preserved during the cooking. The celery still had the crunch, the snap peas still had the bite; all of it had a delightful mouth-feel. General Tso's Shrimp - ahhh, the dilemma. Here's the thing, the actual sauce was amazing, and the flavor of the shrimp and the breading on the shrimp were absolutely scrumptious, however, there was way too much breading/coating on each shrimp, making it almost impossible to enjoy the taste of the actual shrimp. Despite the objections, this was a pretty big hit with both the mister and me. Lastly, I'd like to conclude that it's clear that they aren't perfect - but the delivery took place before the projected time, the food was all fresh and tasted pretty darn good, and the order taker (and the delivery guy) was really courteous! We are DEFINITELY ordering from this place again!!!

Egg rolls are the size of a spring roll, but they taste okay. Pot stickers were nasty a waste of money.

This may be the worse Chinese food in Bolingbrook. I've tried almost every place. Really bad will not eat again or recommend.

The fried rice was nothing to right home about, but it was good too. The egg roll was fresh and generously filled. I will definitely be back here on my next business trip to the area.

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...

I called to let the restaurant know. The woman who took the call assured me my card would be credited the amount of the item. This was outright FRAUD, as my card was never credited for this food I could not eat. She also said the manager would call me back, which also did not happen. Bad enough the food was inedible, but blatantly lying to me was way over the line. The rest of the items were on the bland side, and I'm not sure if I would have come back. It's across the street from Arby's in a small strip mall. You'll definitely have to make a U-Turn because getting into the lot is weird. Plenty of parking since it is a shared lot. We decided to do two combo meals plus the aristocrat chicken. When dining in, there are about 4 tables so it can be limited if there is a rush hour. The owner was very pleasant and he explained about the items before we looked at the menu. Lumpia was crispy and tasty. Garlic rice was a little oily but still good. Overall, it's about a 4. I would have given them a 5 but that rock hard crispy kare kare is hard to forget. However, I'll return to try other items. -crispy kare kare with garlic rice and lumpia 3 - I wanted to like this but the crispy kare kare was a huge let down. It was very tough to eat. I've had Filipino food many times and it was never this hard. It's a shame because the peanut sauce with the veggies and eggplant were delicious. -bbq pork belly (liempo) with garlic rice and lumpia 5 - I really liked the BBQ pork belly. Very easy to cut with a spoon. Meat was well seasoned. It is fatty, so it's best to eat it with rice. -aristocrat chicken 5 - highly recommended. Chicken is extremely flavorful even for leftovers. Meat is very moist and juicy. Nice balance of sweet and salty. I should have gotten the 10 pieces.
