My honest opinion is that we will go back there because its a vegetarian option place and that is always what my wife and I are trying to be. However, the people I was with REALLY enjoyed the food and want to come back calling it one of their top places to eat vegan in Palo Alto. I say they would give it 5 stars on food. I wish they had more options that were just vegetables instead of fake-meat, but figured I would embrace them. I was disappointed to see the scallion pancakes deep fried instead of lightly pan fried. Returned for lunch with Ruchi and the bear. The last location I went to in mountain view is not my cup of tea. But coming here Yesterday changed my perspective. Since Ruchi was with me I ordered Vegetarian dumplings, green onion pancakes eggplant and tofu and she ordered orange chicken. Service was excellent and the restaurant was extremely clean. Amazing. We are observing "Veganuary" and picked up both the "beef" broccoli and the "chicken" with vegetables. Both "meats" are tantalizing and satisfying to even this avid carnivore! The veggies are fresh and prepared to perfection and the sauces complement the dishes without being too spicy of overpowering. The pickup is touchless and easy and parking is no issue. As a vegetarian, I was super excited to try out this restaurant with a friend the other night. We tried 4 different dishes and all of them were GREAT. In terms of fake meat, the texture and taste were all at a good balance of chewy and highly-flavored without tasting TOO similar to actual meat. I will agree with past reviewers that the vegan duck was fantastic! The atmosphere was meh, but I had great, friendly, and fast service! Overall, I would say it is probably better for take-out than for dine-in. If I was in the area for longer than this summer, it would likely be my go-to veg take-out option. read more

The boy and I ordered three entrees with two servings of rice, and the total was almost $50. The orange "chicken" was the best dish and well flavored with the tangy sauce, but the protein pieces were very tough. Very standard chinese vegan fare -- you can find your usual American Chinese dishes here with the protein replaced by gluten, mushrooms, tofu or soy products. The dishes were flavourful and well prepared. We had wontons in sesame sauce, which is slightly different from my expectations from the Chinese name, but it was good nonetheless. We also had the chicken chow mein and the shiitake mushrooms over bok choy. Both were solid. I do hope to see more vegetarian-only dishes instead of the mock-meat on the menu though. A true vegetarian place would have more of that! And don't tell me that this is what Chinese vegetarian is like. I've had plenty of Chinese vegetarian in Asia and it's more than mock meats and tofu. So the menu here is definitely smaller at lunchtime. But that's cool-- the lunch specials are a great size, run about $8, and come with rice! (but no free soup) The spring rolls are delicious-- basically vegetarian egg rolls, really. And I love egg rolls. It's a very good thing I can't make them myself. The Japanese eggplant dish is also a definite standout... I've gotten it more than once and had no regrets. Only bite after bite of pure bliss. We didn't finish all of our brown rice, and the owner/manager wouldn't take our plates away until we did... Which was cute, in a mom-ish sort of way! But we were too full and had to disappoint her. All I can say is that I was blown away by the dishes here. They look like they have meat, but they don't! Great and interesting textures to substitute for meat with gluten and other ingredients. We've eaten at the various Garden Fresh on the Peninsula, but this one in Mountain View is the best of the best. Wow. We hadn't been here since Covid, and wanted to make it a Chinese Friday Lunch. We ordered to pick up from the website and the food was ready at noon as requested. We ordered egg rolls and wontons with chili sesame sauce. They were both fabulous. I should have doubled the order. 3 egg rolls and I cannot recall the number of wontons, for a family of 4. The wontons were in a wonderful shredded cabbage and sesame sauce. Yummmmmy. I'll increase the order next time. Szechuan Eggplant, Medium Spicy selected. Just get it. It was superb. Probably the best of our 5 entrees. Incredible taste, with a hint of heat and delicious tofu. We will definitely reorder this one next week. The vegetarian sweet and sour pork is one of their mainstays. Crispy vegetarian pork in fabulous sauce. Tastes just like the real meat version. And the brown rice that comes with it is incredible. I always order this when we eat here. Next up was the Fried Black Pepper Chicken. This dish did not come with rice, and I plussed up the chicken when I ordered for an additional 2 bucks. I'm glad I did. This was a stand out peppery dish, and we had enough rice from the other 4 entrees that we didn't miss not having enough rice. Next favorite entree of the group. Vegetarian Beef with Broccoli was very very good. I ordered additional beeft and mild spicy. Every bit was eaten, so everyone enjoyed it. I did not find the texture of the beef as convincing as the pork and chicken. The kids had no idea we were eating Vegetarian until after everything was eaten. It also came with the incredible brown rice. Lemon Vegetarian Chicken was the last of the five. I found it very airy and light, but not enough lemon flavor. I should have squeezed a lemon over it. Still, nothing was left over after lunch. The portions were ample, and every entree except the Fried Black Pepper Chicken came with Brown Rice, which was incredible. We normally have left overs after ordering this many dishes, but the food was so incredible, that all of the protein was gone. It had nothing to do with portion size, but is a testament to the wonderful and delicious food. Run, don't walk to this incredible Chinese Restaurant. The fact that it is vegetarian, will only amaze you, and should not deter you. I'm not a vegetarian, but great food is great food, so we love to eat here. read more

"Worst restaurant food that I've had in the last few years" --my boyfriend. My sister is considering going vegan, so I agreed to go to a vegan place to humor her. The first place (Golden Lotus) in Oakland was so good that we wanted to try a closer asian vegan place (aka this place). The first thing we noticed when we came in was that there was no one to greet us; in fact we sat down at a table before the lone server noticed we were there. We were not given chopsticks before prompted (a red flag for a Chinese place--probably because few actual Chinese people eat there) and had to practically yell at the server to get her to notice us. As for the food itself, not only did the meat clearly taste like tofu, the dishes were tasteless and bland for the most part. The Singapore curry noodles tasted like someone decided to dump a bunch of curry powder onto plain noodles. I've had the beans before at many Chinese restaurants and it is usually a vegetarian dish, so being a vegetarian restaurant was no excuse for this dish tasting bad--and it was bad, basically tasted like soy sauce and sugar dumped onto beans with pieces of soggy tofu pretending to be meat. The black pepper chicken had similarly unconvincing, unappetizing meat and the sauce tasted solely like black pepper. The best dish was the basil tempura since the sauce was ok but even that was unconvincing as meat. Not only were the dishes bad, but they came in small portions, and since they were only vegetables, we left hungrier than we had come, and $65 short. My boyfriend said, "I feel like I haven't eaten anything." I am unsure why there are so many 4 and 5 star reviews. For the record I am Chinese and not vegan, so I am writing this review from that perspective. Who knows, maybe among the limited vegan options available, and as a non-Chinese person, you would consider it good. read more

We ordered hot & sour soups (nicely spicy but a bit watery without the ham and meat pits and pieces), spring rolls (which were good - crispy on the outside and fresh on the inside), kung pao chicken (spicy and you could not tell that you actually did not eat chicken), veggie beef with broccoli (interesting but not as tasty) and singapore style rice noodles (really yummy). Love that there is a vegan Chinese restaurant in Palo Alto. It's on a side street off University, so it has a slightly more relaxed feel to it (though it's next to uber fancy Bird Dog restaurant). It's a smallish restaurant with maybe seating for 20 people. It's seems like a family run business - with 1 waitress, and 1 busboy/server. So it can be a little chaotic and slow during prime eating hours. The food is vegan which is great but stay clear from the "fried" gluten balls - they were very dry and not tasty. The best dishes were ma-po tofu, hong shao tofu, green beans. read more

Visited this location today for the first time, as we usually go to the Mountain View one, and we were again astonished by the quality and flavor of the vegan Chinese cuisine that was served to us. Also that it tasted exactly the same as what was served to us at the other location. The consistency was nice. We were the only people in the restaurant at 11:30AM today and it was a little awkward because the waiter had nothing to do and just stared at us the entire time haha.
