I wish this location had better reviews because it has been amazing for us! They have an indoor pool, youth basketball, karate, a preschool, a gym, and much more. My daughter plays basketball here, and the coaches are very focused on teaching fundamentals, making sure everyone gets playing time, and maintaining good sportsmanship. There's no added cost above the membership to play youth basketball, and you can play year-round. My daughter also takes swim lessons here, and after trying two other swim schools, she is finally learning to swim! There is something about the method that is working, and she has progressed very quickly in swim classes. They are very reasonably priced, especially compared to the surrounding pools, and you can take lessons year round, and indoors, so you don't have to worry about it being too sunny or too cold. My daughter also likes the Lego and art classes, and every time she's in a class, my husband and I can go work out in the gym or go swimming. It's helped us get in shape, too! We are also taking advantage of both Camp Whittle in Big Bear and the YMCA day camp at this location. Last, but not least, the staff has been really nice and helpful. We joined off a referral and since then, several of my daughter's classmates have also joined. I highly recommend checking out this YMCA! somebody is charging $10 a month to play pickle ball at this facility, whereas the other YMCA locations do not charge. no set system as to who is playing next so people are hogging the courts and playing favoritism. I have never seen an organized. And this is what they're $75 got... crazy. Not enough tables, not enough chairs, not enough Pizza. Suggestions weren't taken into account. Parents are upset. Kids are running around shooting the basketball near tables hitting people with the basketball. This is ridiculous. Bad bad bad. I had full intentions on taking private swim classes here. This is the closest ymca to where I live and would have been ideal. Unfortunately, I tried over two weeks to get in touch with their aquatics director to no avail. Due to my work schedule I can only take a swim class thursday afternoons. Before joining this Y and paying $50-70 a month for membership, I wanted to confirm they had an instructor available for that specific day. I started with emailing the director then calling and leaving a voicemail then calling the front desk to leave a message. No one ever called me back and it's pretty sad that this branch really doesn't care about you, they just want your money. That's the impression customers will get when you can't even bother to call or email back and address their inquiry. Anyhow, for a $50-$70 monthly membership fee I'm pretty sure there are other facilities that will offer a better experience from the get go. I ended up doing some more research and it turns out the city offers private swimming lessons for about 30% less per class cost AND there's no membership fee required to take some swim classes. If your trying to look for swim lessons for you or a child, I strongly encourage you to look at other options. Really wish this branch was different! I've gone to the one in Westchester and it was a million times better. I've had positive experiences with other Ys, just not this one. It's actually my second time trying to give this one a chance. My first encounter with this Y involved a very moody front desk teen and their inability to offer a day pass. Highly doubt I'll be looking to take any class or become a member. I've been a member of the Y for a year now and I have to say I love this place. This location has three small work-out rooms, one with the basic gym equipment, like treadmills & elliptical chairs, another room is the "20 minute work out-room", which has around 10 machines and finally a weight room for all those muscle men. Plus they have a basketball court adjacent to the main workout room. But what I absolutely love about this place is the indoor pool, which always has lanes reserved for lap swimmers. Also they have a lifeguard on the premise, which gives me some sort of comfort, in case of an accident. However, what makes this place amazing are the employees because it's a small location, you get to know most of them. The ladies in the reception desk are my favorite, always amusing and ready to help. If you're thinking about joining the Y, stop by and pick up a seven-day trial pass and take it for a test drive. read more

Friendly environment for both adults and children because there's things for the whole family to do! while parents work out, they get to leave their kids in childwatch for a max of two hours. Kids 5/6 and up get to go to a exercise program with a coach and they really enjoy it! Every last Friday of the month is movie night in childwatch. Staff are very friendly and do their best to watch interact with everyone. There's also kids Zumba, karate, swimming lessons and jr Lakers & seasonal camp (summer camp, winter camp) and going away camps available for the kids. One of our most popular fitness classes is Zumba with the instructor Juan! He's a great instructor teaching Monday through Friday evenings! If you ever get a chance to take his class, don't miss it! He will get you sweated out by the end of the hour. Other good classes to take are Don's abs& core which gets your abs suuuuper sore!!! It's pretty intense! If you want to work on abs this is the class for you! Strength training with Jessica on Monday evenings is also one of those hardcore classes! She helps you work on everything. The class title pretty much sums it up. It's strength training! We do a lot of weights and ab/arm/legs toning and also have a good portion of cardio. I've also seen a lot of senior classes such as sit n fit, I believe there's a Zumba for them as well.. And some sort of pool class too! Trainers are always available to answer questions and available to book for an appointment at the front desk. The pool is pretty big and has separate lap lanes for lap swimming. Pool temperature is warm so that's a plus and lifeguards always on duty. Also! New remodeled Youth Development Center is going to get computers and a wii game system for the older kids to come and have somewhere to do hw or be active. I have been coming here for years and have never found an equivalent. The atmosphere is just more relaxed and friendly than other gyms. The facilities are great, with a separate free weights room, a decent sized pool, and a good selection of treadmills, StairMasters, ellipticals, and bikes. However, there best things here besides the people are the CLASSES. You can waltz into whatever class you want, and the instructors are friendly, helpful, and understanding. If it weren't for Zumba with Michael I would NOT be at this gym. The parking is terrible early in the morning and sometimes vehicles get broken into. The weight room is a spacious mess. Weights are NOT in numerical order (Like at other Y locations) some people don't re-rack their weights so they're all over the floor (HAZARD!) and there's a couple of guys that love to drop the barbells....causing them to chime very loudly throughout the weightroom (OUCH!) Also, there's NO floor supervision like at the other Y's. So if you need help/assistance you have to ask another member or try to find a staff member to assist you. Check out the other Y's before you choose which one to sign up with a membership, because once you do that "Gardena" members have "first priority" to the classes if there is a maximum. read more

Sucks for COVID testing. They are rude. Even cops were involved. To make an appointment, the check in link doesn't give you their address as an option so your appointment gets canceled and then you have to do a walk in. I spent nearly an hour waiting to get tested and I just left because they took too long. I was late for my doctors appointment. Got tested elsewhere. Vermont by the Bank of America near Slauson is so much faster and better service. read more

YAY I love this YMCA!! it's definitely waay smaller than the one in torrance so that is a bummer, but regardless, i like it here! I'll tell you why: The staff are all super friendly here and they make you feel welcome. When i went to the Torrance one, i didn't feel welcome at all. Wanted to punch the dudes in the face actually, but i really liked the Torrance YMCA equipment...anyways. I love the Zumba class in the mornings! Our instructor is always full of energy and it's so much fun dancing, or trying to dance. But you always end the class sweating like a pig and feeling great! This past monday was our instructor's birthday, and after our Zumba session, she brough allllll this food out for us to eat. So we bascially exercised and then had a feast/buffet and ate more than we burned HAHA!! but it was worth it. read more

The swimming pool here is amazing, the water temperature is just right not too cold like some other gyms I've been too - which made it super challenging to swim in cold weather. Positive reviews are mostly rigged. My wife and I came in because my wife wanted to utilize the swimming pool. We explained that the pool was the primary focus for my wife but I would join as well and use the gym. We were told that we would have access to the pool at any time even when classes were being taught. We even reiterated the need for the pool for my wife's swimming practice and we're reassured of the availability. Since you have to sign up for the first and last month, we signed up for four months. Keep in mind that we already have gym memberships elsewhere but no pool. Second time my wife went to swim, she was kicked out by a swimming instructor who rudely said the pool was for students. They limited one lane for availability but then took that lane away as well for kids. Instructor told my wife she had to get out of the pool because the students had priority. I had a meeting with the director of the facility who said that she would make sure that there was mutual access and at least two lanes available for non-student use. This never happened and the membership was a waste of time. Members are only to bring in money to support the free classes for kids. Great opportunity for kids I agree, but no regard for paying members. The only thing we were told was that we could come early in the morning or when classes were not in session. The facility is reasonably clean although minimal equipment and promises are not kept. It's a waste of your time and money with no accountability from management. read more

I used to love this facility, my son grew up her but now the hours are horrible! The facility is not open on Saturdays and I have been paying monthly out of loyalty. I will cancel my membership now because it is not helpful my son is 18 and needs to exercise. We like the small facility . This location participated Drive-Thru Turkey Giveaway event. We arrived the location on time (11am), and there are many other vehicles waiting in line. However, the representatives said that you would need to provide a ticket or voucher so that you can get food. On their advertisement website, they did not even say there is a way to get the voucher or ticket. It only said the event time and location. The only requirement is that you need to be local residents (with IDs). I think there is a huge problem in terms of their ways to distribute food without indicating ways to get the ticket or vouchers properly. We wasted three hours waiting in the line and got nothing just because we did not have the ticket or voucher, which we never saw this requirement listed on their ads. When we left, there are still many people waiting in line, and I see many people having same situation that they have to leave because of the lack of tickets/vouchers. I think they really need to stop the falsely advertisement since many people are upset on site as well. read more

Originally, I was going to pause membership for personal reasons but after Friday (6/9), it looks like I'm getting out at the right time. On this day, I arrived to find one young lady with long, straight dark brown hair by herself on the phone. I stood there for close to ten minutes while she chatted it up. No acknowledgement of my presence whatsoever or apology for making me wait. After completing the form, I noticed she didn't enter my reason for leaving. It says 'no reason', which is untrue. I went here for COVID testing and found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. They mentioned it was by appointment only, no walk-ins. I went in the late morning and it wasn't too busy but a steady flow of people coming and going. You have to get out of your car to check in, but they come and test you from your car. I love coming here. There is always a treadmill for me. I love the separate three workout rooms. I have yet to try a class but they have tons to choose from. The staff is very pleasant. Review 600! No offense Yelp Kicks Butt but your deals ain't got nothing on what I like to call Isabel Kicks Butt! Isabel F. took me back old school style and got me a 2 week trial pass at the good ol Y.M.C.A! (you know that song has now been added to my workout playlist). Nicole signed me up for my trial pass and was super helpful. She set up an appointment for me to meet with Marcus as my trainer and he kicked my buTT! He took the time to listen to my goals (which were none other than wanting to get back into the swing of things) and tailored a workout routine that works for me. Even after our initial training session he still would stop by during my workout to check in on me. I was pretty sick of hearing "that's good pain" from Isabel to the point of our friendship was semi in jeopardy. j/k j/k! We already had our friendship test in San Fran that coincidentally enough involved pseudo exercise and well, we got through that so it was an immediate friends for life bond. I have been dreading going back to the gym and actually was hiding my check-ins in the beginning. Not anymore so hooray for my gym junkie badge! But I have to say that I enjoy going to the YMCA painful good burn and all. Even when it is their "prime" workout hour, there is still always a cardio machine of some sort available. I love to hate the 30 minute circuit room. But I really love that they have a torso twister machine. As soon as I saw that machine I knew I wanted a membership here. To be honest, the hours really do not work for my lifestyle but I find that I make time to get a workout in before the day is done. Sadly, my 24hr membership was helping me become more lazy bc I knew it was always open and kept putting it off and eventually never going. The YMCA has so many amenities that I can not wait to explore. Basketball court, indoor pool, aerobics room, weight lifting room and even an outdoor jungle gym for the kids. They have classes galore so it will be fun to try new things. Zumba anyone?! Or how about Ab and Core Class with Hilda. At the end of my two week trial, I'm happy to say that I invested in a membership to the Y! Miranda helped me with that today and I felt like she was a long lost friend I have not seen in ages. So supportive and friendly and just excited about my excitement about joining the Y. Like the other Y in my life Yelp, the YMCA is all about Community and you really get the sense of that when you are here. The membership is pretty pricey if you sign up for a "single membership" ($45 month) so i recommend finding friends to join with you so you can get the "family" pricing. If you qualify (hooray I did!), they do offer financial assistance (bc no one is denied membership because of inability to pay). You can also visit other Y locations 3 times a month. Which is awesome bc the Torrance YMCA has a rock climbing wall that I can not wait to try to climb! If you are thinking about investing in a gym membership I highly recommend looking into the YMCA. I enjoy my what I like to call "me time" here so much that two major things have happened. 1. I CG am without cell phone when here and keep it in the locker during my workout 2. I even turned down GeA one night to go to the gym. Can we say dedication! It's about time to loose the xbf and yelp 30 combined. So screw how Stella got her groove back. This facility is offering free covid testing with same day results. However the test is not considered for any cruise lines. My son had to pay an additional $300 for testing. I know it has nothing to do with employees of YMCA It is the company who is doing the tests. The cruise lines said it wasn't even signed by a doctor. If yelp would let me rate them NEGATIVE stars. I would !! I went in today in hopes of finding spaces in the child care watch for my child. Walked in & there was 2 staff would look like they were having a hard time. Since there was ONLY 2 staff, each staff has a limit to watch 10 children each. Making it 20 child limit. How the heck did you go over capacity with 27 kids ?! It's not even like 1 or 2, it was an extra 7 full body in a small tiny tiny room with one tv. That's so ridiculous. 27 kids but your limit is 20, if your a mother you would understand the frustration I went through with this particular YMCA. The room is so tiny, that I get nervous and scared to put my child here. They have 1 big flat tv screen to keep all the children occupied. Not a single thing in there is educational. All they had was a rug , tv as mention, some chairs & probably a tiny desk where the staff is sitting. There is NO WINDOW to breathe. I wouldn't even dare take my child here ever again. If you are a member I suggest you going to the TORRANCE YMCA. Staff there is amazing & the child care is big enough to take 35 children. There's a outdoor play area for the kids, an arts & craft room. Eh I don't want to give gardena any suggestion to copy the TORRANCE. Worth the drive & worth your child's learning capabilities. I love to work out and i want to have a great experience when i do....but when i went to aqua zumba, the pool had my eyes stinging and itchy skin after.....someone check the status on the pool please....i just joined and so far the class instructers are great, the front desk staff need more professional training....the management needs to clean house....i will stick around because it is in my community. ....but if no changes or made DHS will be called.....i dont want to drive all they way to Torrance when i believe that this YMCA has potential. They have great classes and great programs and a helpful staff with great facilities. They have a great indoor pool thats always heated and and a fun and functional multipurpose room. The gym has expanded immensely and the basketball court is the perfect size! Membership is fair and the service is stellar! Make sure you take the time to get to know the staff because they will take care of your every need. I only swim, so this is what my review is about. Counter staff, especially Stacy are great. The pool director and lifeguards don't seem to mind that I see as a problem. MORE and MORE people are not showering before going in and some are wearing all sort of street clothes. These things should be monitored and enforced. There are signs around.Staff says it is not a health issue because of the chemicals. I feel it is a standard of decency. I only go here because it is close to home and accessible. Love the YMCA! I love the equipment there. There is a good variety and they have the exercise equipment that I like. I can't find the same elliptical that I absolutely adore in la fitness or 24 hour. I love love love the fitness classes. I've been taking zumba classes and boy am i glad that I did. They are so fun and by the end I sweat up a massive storm. The instructors pump you up and they are just awesome. The staff at the ymca are also very nice, personable, and attentive. The only downside of this place is the bathroom. It STINKS! A LOT! So nasty. I would never take a shower there unless I absolutely had too. Not the best bathroom/locker room/ shower room in the world. The ones at LA fitness and 24 are much better and cleaner. But besides that, I love the YMCA for exercising and everything else! read more

My family been with this Y since March 2010 and like it here a lot...my daughter just finished 6 weeks of summer camp which she liked except it left something lacking for the older kids...she's 11...but in speaking to other members...they like it here too...it sometimes gets very busy at the front desk but there are signs asking you to be patient since they do have a lot of programs people are signing up for or making inquiries...I enjoy the Zumba/Cardio salsa class...treadmills. Hey young hispanic girl at the front desk, if someone asks you how much is a day pass, don't look at the potential customer like he's keeping you from doing more important things and with a totally stoic face, say 25$ when it's already 5:00P, just say we don't offer day passes or our monthly fee is so and so. Why in the world don't they answer the blasted phone Here! This is a small Ymca, with a tiny hot gymnasium. This facility only has 1 group exercise room and only 1 equipment room. My daughter goes to the summer camp and residents camp, she really loves it. The staff are always very kind and helpful as well. They work with you in financial aid and are very interactive with the kids. The only down side is the field trips for summer camp, they don't go many olaces read more

Very poor customer service. I just called to request information on senior exercise class. Phone was answered by TJ who said that their club did not offer any such classes. I asked him to check the schedule and he said that he did. I then asked to speak with someone else and he said that he was the only person there. I checked the webpage and found that the club did in fact offer the class. Moreover, someone else answered the phone -so TJ was not being honest. The person who answered the phone the second time (Alex) then said that he did not know where TJ was although I could hear him talking in the background. If I can't trust them with such a simple issue, how can I trust them with my health? Perhaps they forgot that the 'C' in YMCA stands for Christian. read more
