I have been coming here for years every time I come to vail and I have enjoyed the place do to there location by the mountain. But this time we had to seat ourselves and had Bret as our server and I say if you ever have him please ask for another server!!!!!! He was very slow and forgot some of the orders we had made. My mug I was drinking out of was so sticky and had lipstick on it. Top it off the manager was the biggest jerk in the world. Drove through Vail on the way to Carbondale, somewhat late in the evening, and figured it would be a great place to stop for dinner. Decided to park in the garage at Lionshead and just wander until we found a place. Stumbled upon Garfinkel's and it was perfect. Fun pub/sports bar atmosphere mixed with plenty of ski memorabilia as you might expect in Vail. The menu has a lot of options, a lot!, with everything from burgers and sandwiches to pasta, steak, and seafood. I was eyeing the Thai peanut rice bowl, which sounded great, and was not something I expected to see on the menu. In the end we ordered the prime rib French dip with sweet potato fries and I had the buffalo chicken wrap with regular fries. Honestly I was just craving some fries, so the wrap won over the Thai peanut bowl. Anyway, the food was great! Perfect for two hungry guys who had been in the car for nearly 4 hours, and still had a couple hours of driving ahead. Great flavors, perfect amount of buffalo sauce to give the wrap a nice kick of spice. The service was quick, very friendly, and we had a great break before heading back down the road. I'm looking forward to an excuse to stop in Vail for lunch or dinner again sometime, and return to Garfinkel's. Hopefully in less of a hurry next time, and maybe time enough to enjoy their patio. read more

Was visiting Vail for the annual King of the Mountain volleyball tournament and we stopped in to Garfinkels. The place itself has a good atmosphere/vibe and has great views but the service was incredibly poor. Staff was not overly welcoming and extremely slow service. I ordered the pretzel appetizer and a burger for my meal, the appetizer took 45 minutes to come out and the meal followed about 20 minutes behind that. I can understand if the place was swamped but it was pretty empty and they appeared fully staffed. The pretzel appetizer tasted great but McDonald's makes a better burger than this one, I was ravenous and could barely stomach it. If you have plenty of time and are just coming to have a beer / apps you'll be fine, but overall I did not have a great experience. read more

Best place to grab a drink off the mountain! Garfinkels is fun during the day. Filled with skiers and snowboarders. Great atmosphere! You can easily sit and have a beer while watching people fly down the slopes. Great beer selection! Gotta try out the shot wheel while you're there, too! read more

Great place for a cheap beer and a great burger. Over looking the ski yard it's a great place to people watch, summer and winter. The food for bar food is about the best in Lionshead, burgers, fry's, Salads. Great for kids with the video games and other and free pool at lunch. The only thing that might not be so great is this place is very busy in the winter around happy hour and in the summer all day. Garfs has been in the Lionshead area since I do not know when and I guess you would call it a locals bar. Not impressed. First time customer and I received very rude service, and thought the food was average. Not likely to come back.

Food- There is only one word that can describe the food at this restaurant. Horrible. We ordered a slab of ribs and fish and chips. You had to fight with the ribs in order to get them off of the bone, getting chunks of it in the meantime. The fish and chips didn't come coleslaw, which was on the menu, and the fish was bland. The French fries were ok but it's hard to mess those up. 1/5 Service- Sometimes good service can compensate for bad food, but that wasn't the case here. No one took out drink order for 10 minutes then after that, we didn't get the drinks for another ten minutes. After bringing food that didn't match the menu description the server simply said "Sorry,we're out". While we were leaving we weren't surprised to find out that they were out of 12 different menu items, from boneless chicken breast to coleslaw. 1/5 Extra: the view of the Rocky Mountains on the outside deck is beautiful but is ruined by bad service and food. read more

I gave 5 stars because for a restaurant in a upscale ski resort, the price was super cheap, the service was friendly and portion were very generous. We ordered 3 dishes for 3 of us but we could only finish one which was a huge nacho. We packed two other lunches for our dinner. Coming from California, where in Big Bear everything cost twice as much, I was surprised that the prices of this restaurant were very affordable. Do not go here. To start yes I know it's vail so the costs are going to be higher however the quality better be up there. Chicken salad. Lettuce was browning, guacamole was browning. Seemed like it was pulled out of the fridge after sitting there for 2 days. Sliders were on special were okay, very greasy. Drinks were outrageous. Ordered a diet and vodka. Was 7 bucks. Ok. Ordered a well vodka and splash of diet. 9 bucks. 70 bucks for me, wife, and a 9 years old. Spend your money somewhere nicer. Not an overpriced dive bar. If I could give it zero stars I would. Soooo as out of towners, in the bar and restaurant industry, we were super excited to have a group dinner/drinks night. We fully understand the town just opened this week due to Covid, but none the less we understood the rules and were willing to comply. We left a Facebook message before flying/ driving out and were greeted with welcoming comments about being able to accommodate our large party. Upon stopping in two days before to verify we would be able to be accommodated, We were rudely told we wouldn't be allowed ,but parties of 8 were allowed at a table as long as they weren't in a group. No reservations. Trying to comply and simply wanting to eat, (willing to all sit separate) We tried to go in and have separate tables at least to eat, but were stopped with ABSOLUTE attitude and anger and the worst form of owner/ management we've ever encountered. We were willing to comply with anything we had to. We are all bar/restaurant owners and managers and would never conduct business this way. Sad way to conduct business and sorry y'all missed out on what could Have been a great night for y'all. read more

Great outdoor seating right on the slopes, which made for really fun people watching. The service was speedy and friendly. I had the most delicious tuna steak and veggies that lasted me for two meals, which was impressive because believe me, I am an eater! Garfinkel's is right next to the lift and gondola at Arrabelle in Vail. I suppose that's why it's still in business: It's definitely convenient. Price-wise, it's less than nearby Tavern and Vail Chophouse, but it's nowhere near the quality. At the Chophouse, you can sit on the patio and watch the lift, gondola, and skiers and share a bottle of wine. At Garfinkel's, you can sit on benches and still see the mountain, but you're drinking beer and eating nachos. So it's a different caliber. That being said: You're still paying too much for minuscule portions and mediocre food. We ordered the Asian Beef Salad ($12) which is advertised as "Teriyaki Grilled beef tips over grilled julienne vegetables and a bed of mixed greens." We were never asked how we would like the beef tips cooked, and they came out well-done to the consistency of leather, with hardly any discernible teriyaki flavor. There was no salad dressing, and the portion was sadly diminutive. We asked our Servette (Who was of the "Oooooh.... Shinyyyyyyy........." variety) about dressing and her answer was "Huh...... Why didn't they put anything on there?" I don't know sweetheart. Could ya maybe find some for me. She suggested balsamic (With teriyaki??) and I said "How bout maybe the mango?" Yeah, it was pretty weak, right out of the SYSCO bottle. We also chose the Reuben ($10.) Typical: Pastrami, Kraut, Swiss, and Thousand Island, grilled on rye. The flavor of this one was okay (although the side of 'slaw that came with it was obviously days old, sogging away in it's vinegar bath.) The problem with this was that the "Rye Bread" it came on was all of 4 inches in diameter. Literally. The man ate all of it, and had to finish my salad to whet his hunger, although we both left still hungry, and headed across to Haagen Dazs to get him something sweet and filling. This area of Vail has no shortage of Nosh Huts. From 5 star cuisine to casual, there are easily 10 other options that would be better value and quality than Garfinkel's. read more

It was a beautiful fall day in Vail when the nasty food and bad service put a great big cloud over the whole thing. After ordering our beverages and requesting water we eventually got the beverages. We ordered food and WATER again. The food came, but still no water which was really unfortunate considering the food was inedible due to the ridiculous amounts of salt added to everything. Like why could I see crystals of sea salt on my pastrami? ICK! It's pretty hard to mess up a reuben, but somehow they managed it. We asked for water again and finally our request was granted. So, why the bad service? Understaffed? Hardly. There were 3 tables including ours for the 2 servers that were on the deck. It was just bad because they were obviously more interested in the game than doing their jobs. We literally got the bill dropped off at our table before we even got the water we requested! It was just bad, bad, bad. Speaking of the game it's all you could hear. I couldn't have talked to my husband if I wanted to because the game was blaring so loud it drowned out any conversation. We went with the intent of sitting on the patio, but were pretty rudely told that we could not sit out there (I assume because it was starting to get dark, but no one ever explained why?). I understand if it was due to the lack of light, but I would have preferred, "Since we do not have any lights out here, we cannot have anyone sitting out here past dark," instead of the, "If you sit out here we will not serve you" we got. So, we picked a table inside. Our server seemed to be taking care of most of the patio and about 1/2 of the inside. We got waters dropped at the table as she flew past to help others, and she did not come back for about 20 minutes. FINALLY, she came to take our order. I am amazed the food came out correctly, because she spent all of 15 seconds at our table. We never saw her again until she did a drive by check drop. When I started the review, I had it marked 2 stars because the food did taste good, but I refuse to give more than 1 star to a place who's service is that poor. It tells me that they do not value their customers enough to hire a sufficient staff to provide a decent experience (it is a sports bar, so I am expecting average service, not 5 star steakhouse service). A few examples...my $3 Diet Coke was never refilled and sat empty for most of the meal (while I ate spicy wings). We were seated close to the drink machine, and I almost got up and filled it myself. Our waitress left a pitcher of water at the beginning of the meal (I assume so she didn't have to come back). I ran out of ranch, so I left about half of my wings uneaten. I was going to try to flag down our waitress and ask for more, but my first opportunity was when she dropped the check off, and my wings were cold by that point so I didn't bother. She was clearly busy, but I expect filled drinks and basic courtesy. I hope the management reads this and fixes the staffing issue, because our server could have earned twice the tip if she had time to do her job. great apres ski in lionshead! right off the mountain, dust the snow off, blow your nose, take off your layers and pony up to the bar. grab a brew, order some wings and fries and oh yea...loosen your boots! the wings came in many different styles, we got the sea salt and pepper ones, real good! the service was good for it being super packed in there (prime time is probably 3pm-5pm). b/c it's packed be prepared to share a table with some people (in our case a nice couple from Germany who just wanted to have a spiked coffee and a group of Brits who we made fast friends with). don't be "that guy" and sit there holding a table for supposed "others" ...let people sit down, make friends, colorado probably has some of the nicest people in the country! read more

Great Apres Ski location in Lionshead. Get right off the Gondola and head to the porch with the music playing loud with the most beer in the village. Chicken parmesan sandwich is awesome if you dont mind the greasiness and the shot wheel is good fun as well. Prices are pretty good for Vail as well. Beware of the "moose piss" shot. read more

Well, have to admit up front that the setting this day contributed to a high evaluation- it was 64 on this March 25 2012, the back deck overlooks the slopes (though not the typical white powder due to the warm weather). Not typical for this time of year. That said, the food was excellent even taken into account higher mountain pricing. What stood out was the quality and ample proportions from the kids turkey sandwich with four layers of turkey, to the the homemade quality of the salad dressings, to the ample portion of fries, to the very tasty ma-hi fish tacos and special salsa to the vast array of beers and drinks for the whole family. Great location for apres ski beers at the base of the mountain in Lionshead. The staff is hardworking and friendly. I had the buffalo chicken salad (grilled) for a late lunch one day-I highly recommend it! My boyfriend loves their nachos. We met some friendly locals here too. read more

After a long day of white water rafting on Saturday, we were excited to get back to Vail to enjoy a casual meal & some locals brews. We were particularly excited to sit on the patio and the second we stepped onto the deck, we were confronted by an incredibly rude server who informed us that the deck closes at dusk which was "basically now." Instead of encouraging or (god forbid) helping us find a seat inside - she got aggravated when we asked for clarification. So we just left and went to Bart & Yeti's - where our business was instantly appreciated. read more
