The setup was confusing. I had to place my to-go order in the back of the restaurant, then walk all the way to the front to pay -- even though I ordered it with a server who was standing right next to a register. Then go back to the back of the restaurant to get the tacos I ordered. I usually don't complain, but the experience was frustrating. I was also surprised by the total: $2.99 for a single bean and cheese taco with no specials or deals. It was the most expensive bean and cheese taco I've ever bought, especially at 8am. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the price. It was the worst bean and cheese taco I've ever had -- it tasted awful. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but none of the 4 bean and cheese tacos got eaten. We ended up throwing them away. Came in today around 11:30am. Ordered coffee and the Mexican plate. Waitress brought me the coffee and she never came by again. There were guests that came and sat and two different tables. They ordered and got their meals. I went up to the cashier and told her I was just paying for coffee. She asked me the number on the table, I told her 4, and she looks over... yep no food there. Garibaldi's has been relocated from Hwy 90 and Pinn Rd to a former Bonanza Steakhouse on Military Hwy. it's right next door to Bill Miller's. Can't miss it. Went there for lunch with my old supervisor before I retired. Ordered the Mexican plate dinner, two enchiladas, rice and fantastic refried beans. That was enough, then came the tostada and crispy taco which I had to take with me. I saw in the menu that they have menudo, but I eat menudo on Saturdays, so that will be my next visit. It's Saturday and giving the menudo a try. Well major disappointment, the menudo has funky taste, like dishwater... Poured all the serrano peppers and onions to help it, but to no avail. Even added plenty of salsa verde. Nope doesn't work. Oh well the menudo is off the list. So far the Mexican plate still rules! Going to have to smoke plenty of cigars today to get the aftertaste out of my mouth! read more

This review has been long overdue and you can tell from the half eaten burger, I forgot to take a before picture of my plate. Yes, I ordered a burger at a Mexican restaurant but the burgers are delicious along with with their tacos, menudo, caldo and my mother in law's favorite, mole. This is a family establishment and you are welcomed with warm greetings by the host and get great service. We been coming to this restaurant for years. The location has changed but still same owner. They have I think 2 more locations and the carna quisada always taste the same awesome mmmmmmmm. Well looks like the older lady with curly hair ( Della) on the register is very unhappy with her job. Worst customer service ever she thru my credit card receipt didn't even thank me or wish me a happy holidays. I think management needs to look into getting her customer service classes if not they will lose lots of paying customers. read more

My husband & I ate here 4 days ago. I had super nachos & he had caldo. The nachos were horrible. I don't have any idea how they season their ground meat but it tasted just horrible. The cheese tasted like the cheap American cheese sandwich squares. My husband said the caldo tasted like old leftover microwaved food. I didn't like the smell the soup emitted. **Rotted food and lacking good customer service. PLEASE READ...Our last visit was a big disappointment. We had been regular customers since the restaurant was located off Old Hwy 90. Even when Garibaldi's was closed down due to poor health inspection, we still went back when it was relocated to W. Military. Needless to say, this would be the last time we will eat at Garibaldi's. Maybe if the owner had been more understanding with better customer service and less money hungry and greedy, we would have considered returning. The $16.99 steak my husband ordered had a rotten pungent smell to it. Even the texture and look of the steak was totally off. We asked the waitress to return the plate and my husband ordered something different. The owner never even had the decency to come to our table to apologize for the inconvenience. She sent the poor waitress who was very apologetic and embarrassed to tell us that the owner did not feel the steak was bad and that either we eat what my husband ordered or we will get charged for both the steak plate and whatever else my husband ordered in place of it (IN THOSE EXACT WORDS). We had no choice but to order something else because my husband still hadn't eaten anything. We ended up paying for 3 plates, my husband's two plates (one of which included the rotten steak plate) and my own plate. I know we are all going through hard times right now. But to be that greedy in a business that is clearly thriving, is really sad, low and down right pathetic by any standards. I would think twice before going to this restaurant. Came in for a 'mexican breakfast' with our huge party of 30 people (all from a family wedding party from the day before). Immediately the restaurant staff hurried to accommodate our group and welcomed us. The breakfast menu was fantastic as they had a good selection to choose from which included fresh tortillas! Getting fresh tortillas living in the Northeast is virtually impossible so it was a real treat! Unfortunately, they were so good that everyone at the table gobbled them up and the staff failed to provide any replacements. Aside from that, our orders were processed in a timely manor and everyone seemed very happy with the meal. I, myself got a pork chop, potato and bean breakfast platter which was fantastic! The restaurant also had a man playing guitar while we ate and some local vendors came in to sell their homemade trinkets at our table. I'm sure being a big group the staff were probably on their phones getting family to run over to the restaurant to get some quick sales...lol All in all, I was happy with my experience here and would recommend it! read more

This is San Antonio and the number of Mexican restaurants can hardly be counted. One of the older establishments around town is called Garibaldi. There are four Garibaldi's located in San Antonio and eating at any of them is garuanteed to table a meal that is very hard to beat. I have been eating at their location on Pinn rd. for many years with no complaints, so, when they opened a establishment on W. Military dr. recently I knew I had to give their new kitchen a try. As I admit openly in my Yelp profile I am a crispy taco foodie and I prefer ordering a plate of good crispy tacos over just about any other Mexican dish. Today was my third visit in about six months to this new Garibaldi's. For my first visit I ordered a Super Chilaquiles breakfast plate that was excellently prepared and I would have rated it five stars had I been Yelping at the time. I stopped in a second time and bought three Beef Fajita Soft Tacos to go and I just can't put into words how tasty they were. I ordered their Crispy Beef Taco Plate for my third visit. Even on a really busy sunday morning, parking is not much of an issue at Garibaldi's. It occupies a space on one end of a strip mall so it's not hard to find a parking place. The parking lot is usually clean and there's good lighting for the early morning customers. The Garibaldi menu doesn't have a dinner list since they're not open after 5 o'clock. The Garibaldi menu consists of a variety of breakfast and lunch choices that are competetively priced with most other restaurants in the area. The menu descriptions are accurate and overall the menu is arranged so that it is easy to read and understand. Dining at Garibaldis is a pleasant family dining experience. There are two large dining areas seperated by a dividing wall and there is plenty of seating in both areas. The kitchen is located at the rear of the restaurant behind a service counter and two large pass thru windows allow the customers to watch some of the action going on. The lighting is good, the tables are kept clean and the restrooms are conveniently located. No matter which Garibaldi I eat at, I have always been treated very well by the staff. They have always been friendly and attentive. They're easy to speak with and ready to help in any way they can. When I have ordered to go I have recieved all the condiments with my food and been treated as if I was dining in. The rice and beans served at Garibaldis are prepared with a more authentic taste than most mexican restaurants on the westside. They always seem to be seasoned just right and served in portions that are the perfect accompanyment to their traditional main entree on the plate. The corn taco shells were toasted warm and their texture was crisp but resisted breaking at the bend quite well. Fresh cut lettuce, tomato pieces and onion came with the plate in abundance and ready to stuff into the tacos. My meal arrived at the table with three taco shells that were packed with a meaty concoction of pan simmered crumbled beef that was seasoned with a mouth-watering blend of flavorful and auromatic spices and was topped with a generous serving of melting shredded cheese. I put together a crispy taco starting with a light drizzle of the house Green Salsa over the meat blend and then I put the lettuce, tomato pieces and onion inside the shell before taking a big bite. Everthing seemed to go together perfectly and it was absolutely the best crispy beef taco that I've had in a very long time. After sampling the rice and the beans I mixed them together and began devouring my meal, alternating between spoonfulls of rice/beans and mouthfulls of crispy beef taco. I was quite full by the time I got done eating and I didnt have enough room to get some dessert. The desserts have been very good at the other Garibaldi locations I have ate at. I'm sure I'll get around to trying this locations desserts soon. Whether it's a cake or a pie, there's usually a freshly baked dessert located on a counter somewhere in view and they're worth trying. The Crispy Beef Tacos Plate at the W. Military Dr. Garibaldis is at the top of my 'West San Antonio Mexican Restaurant' list. Garibaldi gets five stars. read more

Homemade corn tortillas and a line out the door. What more do you need to know about what I consider the best Mexican food in town. You know when your relatives visit from the north and want some Tex-Mex the minute they get off of the plane? I can understand why you would take them to Mi Tierra or Alamo Cafe. Well at least I can understand why you would take them to Mi Tierra. There is no ambiance or twinkling lights or Mariachi's here. There are no fountains or saltillo tile or a facade decorated to resemble something you might find across the border. What you will find is some of the best Mexican food you have ever had served in an old cafe attached to an Econo Lodge just outside of Lackland. It doesn't matter what you order everything will by fantastic, just don't venture too far off the beaten path as to order the Cesos Lampriados. Unless you are Andrew Zimmern that might not be a wise choice. Try some caldo with homemade corn tortillas or barbacoa or carne guisada or whatever the lunch special might be. Then maybe the next time your folks come to visit you might swing them by here for a true taste of San Antonio. read more

I had a mixed enchilada plate which was a sampling of cheese, chicken, and ground beef enchiladas. It came with beans, rice, and two tortillas. We have been coming here for years and the food is usually really good, but the service has become very horrible. The last three visits have been the worst. Three visits back it took 20 minutes to get our 4 tacos bacon and egg and bean and cheese, and the service was bad waiting for drinks for a refill. 2 visits back we waited 18 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and take our drink order. So we got up told the owner what was happening and left. 3 weeks later today we go in and it takes someone 12 minutes to help us only because we asked a couple of people for our waiter. Then when they bring us our coffee there is something in the cup its dirty and they bring us a 2nd coffee that was not coffee it was tea. I love this place as it's my go to since I was young but their service is getting terrible. I placed an order over the phone for 3 tacos and was told 10-15 mins until it's ready. I waited 45-50 mins for 3 mf'n tacos, while ppl who are just walking in and ordering big orders are walking out with their order before me. They really need to step up their game again! I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid with my parents and I LOVE it. I always get the cheese enchilada plate and it's delicious. I've also gotten a bowl of oatmeal, and a burger.
