Came to this little hole in the wall with my boyfriend after a day of walking around the Gilroy outlets. We didn't except to find much in Gilroy but this place was amazing! I would even make another trip out there just to pay this place another visit. When we first walked in I was unsure of what we were walking into, it kind of looked like a small deli. The waitress greeted and sat us immediately. We started with the garlic calamari (dramatic pause) IT WAS DELICIOUS! For my entree I had the chicken piccata and my boyfriend had the carbonara both where magnificent! (Didn't get a chance to get a picture, to busy stuffing my face) We were both so full but to end this delicious experience we shared the creme brûlée. Our first time here, on a Tuesday around lunch. Don't go at lunch, unless you want to wait, a long time. We awkwardly waited by the door while we figured out whether they wanted us to wait to be seated or sit ourselves. I could hardly understand the server, she seems to mumble, a lot! I think she spoke English. The food, I'll give it, was very tasty. It came to us hot, which is a huge plus! They charge an extra $1.50 for garlic fries, but I think it's worth it. The bread they served the Calamari Steak Sandwich was also very good. Overall, I think they need more help as far as servers, I only saw 2. And for the amount of customers at lunch. They need help, I would return but not at lunch, either a little before or after. The food was good, but the service fell short. read more

Where to start..... My mother always used to joke that garlic ran three my veins! Well, I guess I found a whole town who also has garlic for blood. I had the garlic city burger... this thing came out with entire pieces of roasted garlic on it.... at the sight of this thing I'm in heaven! All of the garlic was carmelized, and roasted to perfection (insert lip smacks) as my side I had none other than the famous gilroy garlic fries of course ... you can't come to the garlic capital of the world and not get a whole plate of garlic. The crew in the kitchen is on point with their skills.... service on the other hand was lacking. I ordered water to go with my meal, It didn't make an appearance to the table until I was most of the way done with my meal (lucky me I brought a water bottle full of outside temp water) . They young lady that was helping was phenomenal, and she was very polite, and asked how my food was... the lady that I guess was my server only came to stop my check off. They got a lot of different garlic options here, and you gotta give it a try since you're in gilroy. The food is very novelty -- garlicy but not super garlicy and not enough to be extemely memorable. I had the garlic burger and it was okay. Roasted garlic cloves on top of a burger --- roasted enough where the pressure makes the garlic into a mash. Good, but nothing special. I shared the cream of garlic , it was good, but again nothing memorable. Then, as I was writing my review, I remember what my girlfriend had. A delicious (garlic marinaded?) calamari sandwich. So juicy, so tender, so full of flavor! Definitely the most memorable and best tasting thing on their menu. Super delicious garlic fries! Tasted very fresh, with the perfect amount of garlic.... We stopped here for a snack on the way back from the San Juan Bautista Mission; They had outdoor tables, super appreciated as we were with our dogs. We only had garlic fries, so I cannot comment on any other food but the diners appeared to be several locals. Sweet server too! read more

It's not bad. It's a cute little hole in the wall cafe. The wait time took a bit longer than expected but my party was pretty satisfied with the food in general. I got the cream of garlic soup. It was a nice consistency and flavored well. I love creamy soups so I thought this was fine. There is nothing in the soup so if you were expecting meat or veggies go find another soup! The Cajun chicken salad was huge! It wasn't bad. They didn't have the garlic dressing available to my dismay. I thought the chicken was cooked a bit too dry but I've rarely had good salad chicken so eh whatever. They had a lot of shredded carrots. We had an excellent brunch. Eggs and sausage, with pancakes for me, and a Denver omelette and toast for my husband. Both plates came with house made yummy garlicky home fries and freshly cut fruit. The cafe is Mom and Pop run, both serving and cooking. Service was timely and caring. The food came hot off the griddle and prepared perfectly. The restaurant is in the quaint town of Gilroy, a short drive from the highway, a nice stop on our road trip from San Jose to LA. It will be a regular stop for us! read more

We were staying at an Airbnb in San Martin while attending US Open. On the way back we found this spot and decided to stop in. The restaurant itself is a modest storefront so we were expecting a sandwich shop perhaps. When we saw the menu was loaded with entrees that's when it got real. My wife chose the chicken piccata and I chose the rack of pork. The chef/owner could be seen from my vantage point and he had several tickets ahead of ours. I was seeing other food being delivered and they all looked amazing. Ours was no exception as you can see by the photos. And the tastes were fabulous! Stopped in Gilroy for lunch and the name caught my eye due to being in the garlic capital. Little nervous that this place would have a long wait due to the streets lined with motorcycles. No problem getting seated and service was prompt. My son loves chicken fried steak with grave and their twist was with jalapeños, which is the way we will always want our gravy. My hubby had breakfast, which was so huge and the roasted potatoes were so yummy. Had the garlic chicken with eggplant panini, which will crave forever. Prices were great and service was fabulous. Stopping in Gilroy for lunch, one must have something with Garlic since it is the Garlic capital. The main downtown area is cute and quaint with little eateries. We decided on Garlic City Cafe and are so glad we did. It is a small little cafe with a few outdoor patio seats in the front and a few spots inside. The service was friendly and the food really good. We started with a cup of cream of garlic soup. It turned out to be more like a bowl of soup, which was nice and hot. Creamy with fresh garlic, but not overpowering like you might expect. We split a sandwich, turkey with a cranberry aioli. The sandwich ingredients were so fresh, it was really good. I would recommend it for a nice, casual lunch. read more

Terrible service, took literally 1 hour for FOUR PLATES to come out. strawberry banana smoothie took 4 yellings to come, and overall the attitude was not it. Understaffed, and ridiculously dumb workers. Why is there this one young latina staff that can only serve beverages? Why does our order have to be made by someone else? Terrible work from all the workers. They started slamming tables, and created a lot of attitude. NEVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAIT 1-2 HOURS FOR YOUR FOOD! We were in a rush so I went in and asked the waitress how long would it take to make two salads( house salad & Caprese? She was confused so she asked someone else and they said I had to put the order in but they weren't sure. A man who looked like he worked in the kitchen was listening says Rudely tell her(me) " if she's in a hurry she needs to go to McDonald's we are not fast food. " He repeated it several times. I said I'm aware you're not fast food but since I'm in a hurry I thought I would ask how long it would take before placing my order? Plus he didn't even know it was salads no cooking required. I didn't at any point come in demanding service. I also said to him there is a way to address a customer thats customer friendly and in a more professional way and not be so rude. Went to this cafe several years ago and really enjoyed it. I had the garlic cream soup and it was YUMMY. Also had their gnocchi pasta special and that was delicious, too. We came with friends to eat here tonight. When we first walked in I thought oh no this is like a little diner not really a restaurant. But once we got our food I was very wrong. The food was excellent the wait staff was on point. The price was outstanding for the quantity and quality of the food. Maybe we were in there on one of these days which we all encounter. The waitress was rude and it took forever to get her take our order. My granddaughter wanted a smoothy and nope they don't have one. What cafe in California does not have smoothies? Too lazy to make it? The burgers we got were not bad, average I would say, and cost twice as much as anywhere else. Again we waited until we got the check.
