St. Vincent Court has some good hidden gems, and Garo's deli is one of them! My boss orders from here a lot and finally made it down to try it myself. He prefers the sandwiches (and he's super finicky about his food), but the deli has a great selection of items to choose from well beyond sandwiches; although, I admit I'm a sandwich person who ordered the pastrami and it was very fresh and tasty. Garo's Deli, we enjoy you again. Foul by Bowl is my go to now since it's one of the few vegan/vegetarian options this hidden deli meets market still has to offer. It's full of flavor with fava beans, parsley, olive oil, tomato and lots of musts. Very much still a fan of Garo's just disappointed they got rid of their falafel and more vegan friendly item and specials. When I asked about it I feel like they were trying to convenience me it was never an option rather than options they offered a couple years ago and decided to move away from for cost and preparations... Not sure what happened there, but the staff was personable. Not as warm as in past trips in as usual. It is a bit of a time capsule as it looks exactly the same, but is very well kept up inside and typically out. While here a pigeon found its way inside and didn't want to leave for a bit, but eventually found its way out with the guide of multiple people. St. Vincent Court Alley is where you'll discover sandwiches, salads, kebabs, market and pantry items and more at this DTLA. Their Avocado Sandwich is very solid. Nice little shop in St. Vincent Court. It's an international shop with little of everything from biscuits, to olives, to wines, to cold cuts, to sandwiches, to sweet treats, to coffee & drinks. Folks go there for the delis, especially sandwiches- and so am I today for the pastrami sandwich. The breads is a thin baguette or I call it pita like, a thin bread that toasted with the meats and then veggies then rolled it up. Perfectly great looking roll. The meats used to be more than now, then again so does the costs. The taste is great, tasty and perfectly balanced from meats to veggies to bread, yum! Service is great and friendly. There is a seating area in the back corner of the shop, unfortunately it looks abit sad and boring BUT they do have outside seating, either on the sidewalk or on under the tent on the street. We were looking for a lunch spot and originally was going to try Salt N Pepper, but it didn't look that appealing so we came here. The place was cute and had the most patrons. They had a chicken special that day (Tuesday) and the guy convinced me to get it. I ordered a side of fries - total ended up being $20, which was okay. My coworker got the feta wrap. The fries came out first - they were crispy but didn't have a lot of salt. My wrap was flavorful - the chicken was delicious and all the fixings were great. Took me a while to find a parking spot in DTLA, not surprised, and finally find this Armenian deli shop located in a small alley in St. Vincent Court. I am super excited!! There are different kinds of fresh bread, choices of cheese, deli meat and sides that you can build your own sandwiches OR you can go straight from the prepared sandwiches on the menu. All staffs are very friendly and helpful, I am given enough time to ask questions and explore all the goodies. I ordered two hot sandwiches: Chicken Club and Pastrami. Their sandwiches are made to order with fresh ingredients such as tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, provolone cheese and other sandwich dressings. Hot sandwiches are toasted in an oven for around 30-45 seconds with cheese. Before I took the first bite, the cross section view of these sandwiches have already won my heart and every bite is full of different textures and layers of flavors!! The only thing to mention will be the chicken, it's a little dry to my standard and I hope it could be more moist and tender next time. As mentioned earlier, the parking can be a challenge if you are not from local. You can also park in nearby lot with minimal fee and walk here for pick-up. There are about 5-6 indoor seating and 6-7 outdoor seating for small gatherings. I was really able to appreciate the flavors of the filling. I got the iconic pastrami sandwich which they generously filled with meat. You would never guess, that smack dab in the middle of downtown LA, you'd find a little area called St. Vincent Court. Though it's more like an alley, you'll feel yourself transported out of the hustle and bustle of the city, and in a quaint little area with fun architecture and little shops. Among these little shops you'll find Garo's Deli. A lovely sandwich shop that also sells some treats and snacks! They are most popular for the Chicken Garlic subway sandwiches and the Pastrami. When the sandwiches came out, the smell was very good and I was super excited to dig in. The bread was super crunchy! Love how crispy and perfectly toasted the sandwiches were. I shared a pastrami and a chicken sub just so I could try both. The chicken tasted really good, and by the time I got to my second half, I was already a bit full, but because the pastrami was so delicious, I kept eating. I had trouble finding the deli shop that's located in the center of DTLA's jewelry district; they're located between main streets: Hill St. & Broadway in the alley on St. Vincent Ct., which houses numerous delis. The security guard by the parking garage nicknamed this "deli alley." With our sitter out of commission, we had the LOs with us on our lunch date. It was best to locate parking closest to the deli & found a garage around the corner off Broadway & 7th St., & it exits right into the alley... yay! On weekends, there's a flat rate ($10 on Saturdays & $8 on Sundays). Yikes! I did notice you could park in the alleyway (if you're lucky) for free, but there's limited spots; I'm going to try my luck next time. We ordered 3 sandwiches: GARLIC MORTADELLA (provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, mayo) for me, TUNA (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard) for the birthday man, & TURKEY (provolone, lettuce) for the kiddos to share. Service is fast & friendly, & we got served quick! Mortadella is one of my fav Italian deli meats but I never tried a garlic version. I can taste the garlic without it being overwhelming, & I love their pickles! They're not like the typical dill flavored sandwich pickle, still acidic but on the sweeter side, & complements the saltiness of the mortadella. Prices are moderate, & portions are proportionate, though we may be a bit hungrier than norm (we went on a morning hike) & needed a bit more to be filled, though my kids were technically stuffed on 1/2 a sandwich but made room for ice cream. O_o If we weren't making additional stops, I wanted to get a couple to-go for dinner. I wanted to try Jack's Spicy Soujouk & Basturma Sandwiches, & that Foul by Bowl sounds interesting too but it's only available weekdays. And I have no idea how I missed the Cheese Flat Bread! Both sandwiches were made similarly with mayo, mustard, shredded lettuce, tomato, and the same bread; only difference was the meats inside. The garlic mortadella is sliced fresh and I was shocked to see how much they put in the sandwich! You definitely get a fair amount of meat to fill you up. It's located in a really cute between buildings area and they have outdoor seating and relaxing music that really sets a vibe for a deli. There is an $8 parking lot on Olive and 6th street which is a pretty good deal. I tried 2 of their cold sandwiches: Ham and Garlic Mortadella. I'm usually not a big fan of cold sandwhiches but wow these were really tasty! There is a lot of flavor in these and the pickes are really unique. I've never had a pickle like theirs before. I also tried their cheese flatbread and it's a lot fancier than it sounds. There is SO much flavor in the cheese flatbread AND the cheese they use is super unique and not regular cheese. Literally a hidden gem located in the Jewelry district of LA! This shop is both a deli and a market. They sell cheeses, meats and other food items. I tried the Ham & Cheese and the Pastrami sandwich! We got the roast beef and soujouk sandwich. Every sandwich is made fresh! The bread is flattened and the stuffing is taken out to make more room for the filling. Each sandwich is priced at about $12 and considerably big. Roast beef sandwich - comes with mustard, Mayo, cheese, roast beef, tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. Their pickles are really tasty and different from typical pickles. I'm normally not a fan of pickles because of the fermented tasted, but these pickles didn't have the usual pickled taste, but more of a sweeter flavor. It was delicious! The roast beef was very flavorful and delicious but there was a lot of mayo which I would've preferred a little less of. Soujouk Sandwich - soujouk is an Armenian sausage that tastes similar to salami. It is a dry, spicy, and salty meat that was really tasty. The sandwich was packed with slices of soujouk, cheese, tomatoes, and their delicious pickles. I liked this sandwich the most because it was simple yet packed with so much flavor. Parking is definitely tough and gets pricey, especially in the parking structure right next to the alleyway which can be up to $20. I'd recommend getting dropped off rather than finding parking. This is a real hidden gem located in DTLA! While the private alley way allows you to escape the traffic and busy streets of DTLA, it's too bad they're not getting the attention they should be! It's hard to really stumble across this place unless you're actually deliberately trying to go here. Their bread is made in house and has a really nice crunchy flakey softness to it! With it being lightly toasted it was soo good! I honestly could've eaten the bread on its own and would've been happy too! I was able to try the roast beef, soujook and hot dog with fries. All were amazing! I had to keep switching between the sandwiches to taste test which one I really like the best. In the end the soujook was the winner and the hot dog with fries cane in second. The soujook had a nice kick to it that but so did the hot dog! All their meats were loaded with flavors. The peppers that come with the sandwiches too complemented the sandwiches so well. It was slightly pickled, had a little sweetness to it and not spicy at all. But as a person who eats spicy, maybe it might be for someone who can't handle spice? I wished this was closer to me, I would be a weekly customer!! Due to the location and parking of DTLA, it's a bit hard to go BUT if you have someone willing to drive who can drop you off and wait for you, i HIGHLYYY recommend! This might be what I'll probably do. It takes the same time looking for parking as it does for someone to circle around haha. They seem to have weekly/daily specials? Loved this hidden DTLA sandwich shop with an Armenian flair. Tucked in a little alley (Saint Vincent Ct) that connects 7th Street and Hill. There's a good variety of sandwiches in their menu and daily specials. I had the falafel sandwich which I could get addicted too but would love to try other things next time as well. The store is impeccably clean - there are a few tables inside and outside. There are also a selection of Armenian delicacies and grocery. There is a case of pastries and other special Armenian breads which I just had to grab a bunch to try at home and I loved it. Like everywhere downtown, street parking can be a challenge but there are several paid lots on Hill that are convenient and a short walk away... for me the walk is always interesting because you're in the heart of the jewelry district, so there's always lots to look at. I came into this place randomly. I have bee exploring the courtyard. I ordered a roast beef sandwich. I was given my options. While I was waiting for my order I was met by the owner. We chatted a bit and he gave a quick synopsis of the history. I recall visiting the courtyard in the early 80's with the family. I was shortly met with my sandwich, it was served with a few peppers. The "world of pickles" selection was interesting...their sign says pickles from "Lebanon, Turkey, and Israel"...I looked at all the bottles and none listed Israel...so it's at least good there aren't any Israeli products that I saw, but maybe remove that from the sign and continue not carrying their products. read more

The food at Garo's deli is delicious! The ingredients are fresh, and the sandwiches were nicely toasted and flavorful. The Soujouk Sandwich that we ordered was aromatic from all the spices it contained. On the other hand, the Pastrami Sandwich was juicy, savory, and had a nice layer of mustard and mayo (probably the best Pastrami Sandwich we have eaten so far). The Foul Plate (Egyptian Fava Beans) was creamy and nutty; we also had the option of adding some pepper paste into it for a nice flavorful kick as well. To top it off, the customer service was amazing. The owner Dikran is well-liked by all the locals and is incredibly kind and pleasant to talk to. I honestly can't say enough amazing things about Garos Deli. It's nestled down the historic St Vincent Ct.... It's the most welcoming deli filled with deliccious Armenia snacks, foods and drinks. I tried alot as you can see, the BAKLAVA WAS THE BEST BAKLAVA IVE EVER HAD !!!!! Seriously that's no exaggeration. It was unlike any other, it tasted fresh and made with love, on top of love on top of love! I also tried cookies, not sure the name but they are at the cash wrap and shared these with my boss, her mother is now obsessed and kindly asked for more, so I'll be back soon. I didn't eat the sandwiches right away, and there was ZERO sogginess, I think that itself speaks volumes, both sandwiches were delicious! They each had small details that truly made the sand which a phenomenal experience down to the last bite. The chicken sandwhich had strategically placed fried it was juicy tasty and every bite had a fry to eat. This was my first time trying a pastrami and although I don't have much to compare it to, the thinly sliced picked and evenly dispersed condiments were a MAJOR HIT for me! Not the spicy cheese pocket of heaven was so SOOOOO good, I warmed it up later that night and...... I ate it so fast it burned my tongue lol. But that didn't stop me! The pastry with armenian sausage I believe was really good I shared that, because a girl can only eat so much, and my dad was in LOVE. This little deli in the middle of a hidden corridor in Downtown has some of the best sandwiches in the area. I've always been curious about the local shops down this street and this is the first one we tried and it didn't disappoint. I tried the spicy soujuka and it's similar to a spicy sausage sandwich. Def want to come by again and try their roast beef sandwich or some of the snacks they had in their casings for next time. read more
