This is a Chicago tradition that I am so happy to have here in Michigan. We no longer have to wait for a family member or co-worker to bring us some Garrett"s popcorn from their travels through Chicago. I love all the packaging options. The tins and bags are readily displayed on the shelf from smallest to ginormous. I had a gift card I received for my birthday that I had to use. I was able to get four different flavors. They are all delicious! My favorite is the Chicago Mix. Their popcorn is always fresh. Recommendation: If you choose to purchase a bag option and you do not happen to devour all your popcorn on purchase day, place your bag in a Ziploc bag to keep it fresh. read more

Over the summer, I attended a film festival where they gave us coupons for free Garrett's popcorn. They were expiring on 12/31 so I finally stopped by and used them this week with my mom. She got their caramel popcorn and I got their mix (caramel and cheese). Normally a small bag is $4.95 plus tax. We also tried their hot chocolate popcorn, which was delicious but unfortunately not included in the freebie deal. I usually stop at Nuts on Clark when I'm at Chicago's Midway airport, which has similar popcorn, but I have to admit that Garrett's is better ... It's very, very tasty. Came all the way from MD for their Garrett Mix! Well, I was really visiting for Christmas, but what luck that Garrett Popcorn Shops,opened a tiny shop in Twelve Oaks Mall. It's 20 miles from where I was staying, but the perfect spot to meet up with my college roommate. She even bought two bags for her family. I got the popular mix, called Chicago Mix in their state that in was created. I believe it's the only Garrett's in Michigan. The shop is tiny; mostly just a counter where you point to what you want. There were about five flavors, with a seasonal one. I just bought what I knew I loved. It is fresh. The caramel is sweet and the cheese is so good too! It may appear to be expensive, but it is cheaper than movie theater popcorn. You can't sneak it into the theater though, because the small bag (pictured) is too big. The small was $4.95, which is cheaper than buying two Auntie Anne's pretzels, so there is your excuse to try it now. read more

I was so happy when I heard that Garrett's was coming to Michigan! They have one on pretty much every street in Chicago and you can smell the fresh made popcorn a mile away! I went on mid-afternoon on Friday. There was a line but only took about 10 minutes, much shorter wait time than other Yelpers wrote. My best advice is to know what you want when you get to the counter and if you are unsure please try a sample. I got the Garrett Mix- which is CheeseCorn and CaramelCrisp. The CheeseCorn is a softer popcorn while the CaramelCrisp has a crunch to it. Loaded with flavor. Some people in line complained the prices were a little steep. $4.25 for a small Garrett Mix didn't seem bad to me at all. It's quality popcorn and is actually cheaper than the local movie theatre. The lady I had helping me mixed and shook my Garrett Mix together, while another lady simply put a scoop of the CheeseCorn in a bag, then a scoop of the CaramelCrisp. You have to try them mixed together. Not on top of each other. A customer made her redo her popcorn because she didn't like it that way. read more

I was sooo disappointed because they don't have the Carmel cashew popcorn through the week but the cashier or popcorn-rista. Yes, I said that! They offer it on the weekend and mostly during the holiday season. She put it in the blue and white striped bags but I prefer the opaque bag. I ordered a half and half bag. Carmel pecan and cheese mix. It's sweet and savory at the same time. The cheese is buttery and cheesy without being too much or salty. The Carmel pecan is a little darker Carmel than what I really like but it will do in a pinch. read more

I should be mad at myself for waiting an hour in line for popcorn, I'm fact I am. I'm mad that I waited past the point of no return, where your choice is either admit that you lost 15 minutes of your life for nothing, or let the rest of your soul slip into the void and at least leave with something to show for it. I guess the only criticism I have other than for my poor judgment is that the employees appeared to have little concern that they were moving as if stuck in tar, or maybe caramel, while their customers slowly died of old age in front of them. I'm not sure I should be reviewing Garrett's as I am popcorn obsessed. Before they came to the area I stood in linE in Chicago for an hour. It's just as good as the original. It's greasy, cheesy, buttery good. Cheese, caramel mixed, butter are standards and they have special flavors often. The staff can be a bit stern but but they are quick with the corn. This place has the best staff and the very best popcorn of all time!! My daughters know how much I love Garrets popcorn and especially the "mix"!! For my birthday in February, I got a 20$ gift card from one of my daughters!! I tried to use it and the girl who was mgr. at Novi , Mi really was awesome & went above and beyond to call "miss Olivia" and though they tried to help, I could not use my gift card. They said that I'd have to use it at the online "Garrets popcorn"! I'll never be able to use it because I checked, & the least expensive item that I could buy online would be an end cost of $44.00 or so! I could never justify spending that much on popcorn! Garrett's Popcorn had broken into MI for a while now... and the lines have finally died down. Many swear by their quality and taste, so I had to try it for myself. I sampled their famous Chicago Mix and their new Buffalo Ranch flavours. The Buffalo Ranch. Basically a mix of Ranch popcorn and Tabasco popcorn, the combination missed the mark in my opinion. They were closer with the Tabasco then they were with the Ranch, perhaps they should have teamed up with Hidden Valley on this one. 1 star. The Chicago Mix. This is the one that supposedly put them on the map. Their famous combination of Cheese popcorn and Caramel popcorn. The cheese popcorn wasn't bad, but it was nothing spectacular either. The flavour was present but I was hoping it played a bigger role in the mix. The Caramel popcorn was more disappointing than the cheese! The Caramel had a slightly bitter taste to (a result of heating burning the Caramel). The mix together made it a little more bearable, but they serve Caramel as a flavour on its own! Thinking I had a bad (fresh) batch (as I just saw a worker dump in a bin just before they scooped my order), I returned to the store ask what it's supposed to taste like. The Manager described it to me as having a slight bitterness to simulate a sort of Crème Brûlée flavour. Knowing that this was the intent, my opinion hasn't changed, burnt is burnt. 1 star. This is another one of my reviews where my opinion seems to be the huge minority; given the number of people I know who swear by this product. Before the holidays, there were long line-ups extending beyond the original store so I am glad I waited for a week-night where the lines were much more manageable. Undecided about which flavor to try? Request a sample before making a final decision. I did not care for the CheeseCorn, which had a sharp cheddar flavor and thought that the Caramel Crisp was okay. Despite the incredibly fresh popcorn taste, I found that the burnt sugar taste overwhelmed the snack. It is a good popcorn but since the tin can is needed to get any type of shelf life out of it, it is a major downside. Applause to those who want to stick to all natural no preservatives theme. It is good but not that good for the price that need to consume in 24hrs or less..at least for me that is. I am guessing the popcorn life clock starts when the batch is made so it is best to get a fresh batch. They should offer a better bag to get some type of shelf life besides an expensive tin can. read more

All varieties of popcorn are great. My favorite is the cheese popcorn. The only drawback is that it has to be eaten the same day or it becomes stale and chewy. I even put it in a Ziploc bag trying to save it. No luck on that. The staff has always been quick and efficient moving the line. read more

OH MY FREAKING GOD. Garrett's??!?! in Michigan???? I am in heaven. Every time someone goes to Chicago I BEG them to bring me back Garretts. There is nothing better then a big ol' bag of Chicago mix popcorn. I have no idea what they put in this popcorn that makes it so much better than any other popcorn company - but it is pretty much magical. The savory bite of the super cheesey corn combined with the perfect caramel flavor - PERFECTION. The store is right by the Cheesecake Factory. The wait BLOWS. Average wait times are anywhere between 45 to 2 hours. They pretty much can't keep up with demand! The workers are a tad on the slow side - I am hoping this improves over time because I think I can really only wait in an hour line for popcorn once (and I just did it last weekend). Just a little tip: you are waiting in line for over an hour. Know what you want when you get up to the front!!!! There were several people that seemed "stumped" once they got up to the front. A rip off. A legend in their own mind. The first time was great . The second time I ordered the buttery in a tin. It was inedible like eating cardboard . It was dried out. They were suppose to fill the tin while you waited instead they brought it sealed from the back. After spending $ 48.00 I really feel like I was taken advantage of. When I asked the shelf life of the popcorn in a bag they said 1 hour the tin was 7 to 10 days . That being said the popcorn in the tin must have been over one week old. Of course they had to ask 3 people for that information . I tried calling the store. The store has no number so you have to call customer service. So far I've been waiting on the phone for "A Garrett customer experience representative. I've been waiting for 40 minutes already. They said they would be with me shortly . What a joke . They must have one person working in their "customer experience" department .It's been another 10 minutes. I'm quite sure people aren't waiting on the phone to compliment their product. Worst Carmel pop corn I have ever had. Super oily , the oiliest pop corn I have ever seen. way to much caramel to pop corn ratio. The batch was burnt, bitter and too dark. I was so excited to hear that Garrett was opening a Michigan location. I was over the moon when I learned that it was going to be at 12 Oaks. Awesome sauce! The line was über long the first time I went. A large part of the delay was due to the customers not being ready with their orders once the got to the front of the line. Frustrating but it's not the employees' fault that so many people didn't know what they wanted. Hint: get the Chicago mix. That's what they do best. I've found the staff to always be friendly and willing to give out samples if you're indecisive. If you go during the week, there's virtually no line. But it's worth the wait! read more

I always get the Garrett mix(Chicago style). which is really tasty. Every now and then I will get just the cheese. heads up keep a napkin because your fingers will be orange. ordering the the cheese if you don't eat it all that day i suggest you grab a smaller bag being that cheese do get stale way faster. the warmer and freasher the better. read more

Yes it's quite a wait. We were lucky that we only wait 15/20 minutes. We were also lucky that the flavors we wanted were fresh and available. It's tasty and not over the top in price. There is no secret to making really good carmel and cheese corn. Use real ingredients! That is what Garrett's does. The Garrett mix, cheese corn and carmel corn blended together has became almost universally known as the Chicago Mix. You can buy cheaper versions of this that are nowhere nearly as tasty. My main complaint is that it cost you nearly 40 bucks for a gallon of popcorn! What is the deal with that? Yes, it is good. They use real butter and cheese and other good real stuff but that still does not justify their prices. I guess others have more disposable income than me because Garrett's is doing well. It truly is delicious but I cannot afford it often. read more

I mentioned to the young lady that was taking care of me that last time (several months ago) the person that had helped me did Not mix my bag (like really), and I had to pour out my bag at home to mix it!
