My good friend Andy had pushed for me to visit them after learning that I was overdue for an oil change. In fact, while we were at lunch a few days later, he called and spoke to Carlos himself to set up an appointment for me. Upon arrival, I felt a little like I was pulling up to check in at a hotel. I loved the large covered entry and immediately noticed that this didn't feel like the typical auto repair shop. When I walked into the reception area, one of the first things I noticed was the sign on the women's restroom indicating that it was for women only and that the men's restroom was around the corner. Later, when I used it, I noticed the nice hand soap that seemed to have been chosen by a woman--or perhaps by a man who values and respects women! Either way, it made me smile. Carlos was kind and friendly, and they took my car back for an oil change and cabin air filter replacement. While I waited, I kept noticing little things. There were devotionals stacked alongside the magazines, including *Our Daily Bread*, which I hadn't seen in years. When I commented on it and wondered aloud how to sign up to receive them, one of the owners encouraged me to take one home with me. I also enjoyed a long conversation with one of the newer service writers about how much he enjoys working there after leaving a much more stressful position, his upcoming marriage, motorcycles, travel, and the kinds of major life changes that make you reevaluate how you move through the world. And then there were the chocolates at the service counter--just one more little touch that made me feel welcomed and valued and left me wondering how in the world a group of mechanics had figured out how to create such a woman-friendly environment. In the 90 minutes I was there, I read, knocked some things off my to-do list, and talked with employees, customers, and even a delivery woman. It was genuinely a pleasant place to spend an hour and a half. Most importantly, I never once felt like I was being sold something I didn't need. (I cannot tell you how many times I've had that experience elsewhere.) And I never felt like I was being treated as a woman who *should* know more about how her vehicle works or what it needs. I simply felt respected and cared for. The team at Auto Clinic of Franklin has found a new customer in me. And after my first visit, I think the "Clinic" part of their name is especially appropriate--because I left feeling cared for and in better shape than when I arrived.

My daughter dropped her car off at 3:30 PM for an oil change and confirmed that they closed at 6 PM. Website also confirms 6 PM. They confirmed that they would have the car ready before closing. We returned at 5:10 and they were closed!! Keys to the car which includes keys to her apartment are locked in the building until Monday morning. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE TO CLOSE AN HOUR EARLY WITHOUT A PHONE CALL & WAITING FOR US TO PICK UP!!! We could have paid over the phone and they could've hidden the keys. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! We called other locations, that were still open, but they denied having a contact for the Franklin location.
