Got tired of being swindled by LensCrafters spending quite a few $$$ for a pair of Oakley Flack Jacket glasses gone bad not once, but several times. Researched Gary's Custom Optik as a referral from WileyX website, as I lead an active lifestyle, one in which requires a wrap around style of glasses to fit under a full face helmet without crunching the bridge of my nose when I put my helmet on. We spent a bit of time talking about my lifestyle and the importance of the glasses having to work in harmony under my helmet as I ride a super sport motorcycle, and can't afford to have a lens fall out while riding at low or high speeds. Eight years ago I bought titanium frames for $600, and a week ago they finally broke. The glasses are peculiar and have become a part of my personality, and I was determined to have them repaired. Three eyeglasses repair shops in Greater Los Angeles told me they couldn't repair them. The third said that if I could find a place with that can do 'laser welding', there was a chance my glasses could be repaired. I was happy to find a place in the Valley that has the expensive equipment to laser-weld my titanium frames, and even happier with the service when I talked with Michelle and made an appointment to come in. She and Gary were warm and helpful, and to my great surprise Gary began repairing my glasses while I waited. The store has a better selection of rare and interesting frames than I expected, and I daresay the selection is as good as any of the boutique shops in LA. One of the three shops that said they couldn't repair my glasses, actually initially said they could. They were rude with me on the phone and in-person, but I really wanted the repair so I prepared to pay them to fix the frames. I hadn't heard from them for two days so I called and they were rude again and told me they couldn't fix my frames. Fast-forward to my experience at Gary's, and they repaired my frames for half the cost of what the place that was rude and couldn't do it, said they would. I haven't written a review on Yelp in many years, and I was compelled to write something today because of how positive my experience was here, and how happy I am to find a selection and service like this without having to drive to the city. read more

Every sit on your glasses? Embarrassed to say I have as well. I had only one pair of glasses and they needed to be fixed or replaced--Gucci frames--transitional. Both arms (correct terminology?) were broken off. Gary met me with a warm greeting when I can to the family owned shop. He indicated that my glasses were pretty well damaged but could be repaired. He estimated the cost to be around $60.00. I was more than happy with that estimate. I went to the shop the next day and was met by a very friendly yet professional woman with a SA. accent. She said the grand total was a whopping $9.00. WHAT?!! Don't go anywhere else but here when it comes to repairing your glasses. Due to his professional and more than fair price I will return to see if he can earn my business for an additional pair of prescription glasses as well as a pair of prescription sunglasses. I don't know the prices of the glasses they sell but i know they are custom and beautiful. read more

I brought in a pair of inexpensive-type sunshades (from Target) that got a bit crushed at some point while in my work apron. I wasn't sure if they were fixable, or worth fixing, but Gary fixed them in a few short minutes, and also adjusted them to fit better than they ever fit before. I am very happy after my visit. I went here after ruining my 1/2 frame glasses. The lenses were expensive progressive lenses with prisms for blindness, I felt I was facing a new prescription and frame due to their custom shape. Gary suggested some alternate frames and he gave me new glasses looking 100% better than the old ones ever did, in addition he saved me the cost of the new lenses. Gary is a very dedicated and skilled optometrist and not to mention he works to perfection. I spoke with Gary for a little while and he's one heck of a nice person, if everyone could be like him shopping would once again feel personal like it was 40 years ago. He offered me two solutions, a weld that may not last over 30 days, or an inexpensive replacement frame that my lenses would fit into. I just happened to find this place when I was looking for somewhere local to fix my sunglasses, and I am glad I found this place. One of the nose pads on my Prada sunglasses broke and I needed to replace them with a new set of nose pads. Other places were not helpful but at Gary's they began fixing my sunglasses right away. Everyone was very friendly and treated me well. I talked with who I think was Gary and he was very nice and helpful. He told me that they could have ordered everything for me and to come here first in the future. Great customer service! Since I already had the replacement nose pads, they fixed my sunglasses for free! Even cleaned the lenses! I will definitely be coming back if I have any other issues with my sunglasses. I may even come here to purchase some new shades; they have a ton of sunglasses in there. You know how some frames have these stylish, tiny, rectangular pieces on the side of each lens? Well, one of them came off! So my glasses looked awkward with one piece there, and another missing. I had LASIK surgery and, unfortunately, the surgeon, Dr. Brad Elkins of Encino and West Hills (might as well give him a plug), did not follow the equipment manufacturer's FDA-approved guidelines, used the equipment in an "off-label" manner, and he damaged my eyes. To help relieve the resultant constant pain and visual distortion, I usually need to wear goggle-type glasses with foam inserts to keep out wind and irritants. An acquaintance recommended Gary's Custom Optiks because they stock such sunglasses. I purchased a pair of WileyX glasses with inserts, but they are not made as well as a similar pair of Panoptx that I own. Unfortunately, the insert keeps popping out, which is annoying. The downside of Gary's is that they do not accept VSP insurance, one of the most popular providers, and prices are a little on the high side. They also did not tint my lenses as ordered and I had to return them. The tint that they did eventually apply is not very helpful. On the positive side, the owner, Gary, creates his own lenses and, since you deal directly with the owner, it's easier to remedy any issues. read more
