This was the first time I've had an eye exam by an optometrist trying to coax me into believing my eyes are unable to focus naturally.. more closely to someone 20 years older than my age. I asked if this test is aimed to purposely have me choose between two extremely blurry letter sets that I could not read. She confirms it is, and proceeds to tell me how my eyes are unable to focus and how unhealthy and abnormal my eye focus ability is before preying on me to try and get special readers and adjusting my prescription to fit that bill. I appreciate the previous years of service but I'm not obligated to buy frames from this store. I came in only for contact prescriptions.

Beautiful glasses, but after years of wear and age, the materials had stretched and oxidized. They hadn't fit properly in ages, so I tossed them in a drawer nearly a decade ago. Last week, I found them again and thought, "Dang, these are still some good-looking sunglasses--they just need a little love." I tackled the UV oxidation myself (thank you, YouTube and car polish), but the real challenge was the shape: the frames were warped, and the lenses were starting to pop out. I searched for glasses repair shops, which are surprisingly hard to come by, and after reading a dozen reviews on Google and Yelp, I found Gary's Custom Optik. The reviews were glowing--people calling Gary a treasure, a master of his craft, and truly "old school" in the best way. And let me tell you: they were right. Gary is indeed a gem. Before doing any work, he gave me a fair heads-up that these were 20-year-old frames and there was some risk involved in reshaping them. But honestly, they were already in the "what do I have to lose?" category--and if anyone could bring them back, it was going to be Gary. And he did. He spent about 15-20 minutes carefully working the acetate, reshaping the frames, tightening things up, and getting them back to being totally wearable. Not perfect--but so much better than where they started. When I asked what I owed, he said, "Nothing." That seemed ridiculous, so I bought a lens cleaning cloth and some cleaner just to give something back. This place is a classic. Wall-to-wall with frames and stocked with everything you could need for eyewear. I don't wear prescription glasses--but if I did, they'd come from Gary. Huge thanks to Gary and also to the friendly woman in the shop who laughed at my bad jokes and finished the job with a professional spritz and wipe. Highly, highly recommended for repairs, frame purchases, or just to witness a real craftsman at work. If it's five stars max, I'm giving it 10.

I had to have nerves in my eyes zapped because of floaters caused by Diabetes. My eyes are crystal clear. My son had a problem seeing double vision. He diagnosed as something about one of the eye muscles not being strong enough and aligning with the other one. It happens in rare instances. There were exercises to strengthen the eye muscles. Great doctor for dialing in contacts especially for astigmatisms. He is great!

And went in anyway. It turns out I should've trusted my gut. Big time. Literally the second I walked in I was rudely told by the receptionist "We're closed". It was 5:10pm on a Monday. Their posted hours said open til 6pm. So I said "I thought you close at 6?" A crotchety old doctor man interjected abruptly "We close at 5:30". Their rude aggressive demeanor was not ok with me, so I said "You say you close at 5:30, but it's only 5:10, so that would leave me 20 minutes to browse frames, right?" Crotchety senile doctor barks "No!". I said "Oh really? From 5:10 to 5:30 isn't 20 minutes? Is my math wrong?" They all just looked at me. Then the receptionist said "We need time to put the frames away." Um first of all that's only if I actually saw some frames I wanted to try, but more importantly that's part of operating a business. And as I'm looking for something specific and can tell by looking if a frame will suit me or not, it's unlikely I would've even touched many frames. And *on their website* their POSTED HOURS are until 6pm Mondays. I definitely won't be spending a penny here and would encourage anyone else to go elsewhere. I went to a different optometrist not far away in Encino - owned, run and staffed by Americans - and could not have been treated better.

I paid almost twice as much as I did 2 years ago to have computer glasses made. They took 3 weeks to come back from the place that makes them!!! 3 weeks!! They did not add the blue light filter for computer which I specifically requested and paid for and the glasses were made of this awful plastic material which is probably the cheapest available. I could hardly see my computer and was getting headaches from straining my eyes with the terrible glasses they made. I had to go somewhere else to get another pair and pay again. So I WASTED MY MONEY MISERABLY AT THIS PLACE! NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO BACK!
